A sudden stream brings news of SEGA’s charity work.
During a stream done to celebrate all things spooky today, Aaron Webber made an announcement about SEGA’s drive for charity. This year, Sonic will be officially supporting a movement called Extra Life, which encourages gamers to livestream 24 hour marathons of any games they play to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, with $22 million raised since its inception.

SEGA held a livestream event to celebrate the recent launch of Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice in Japan, with series director Takashi Iizuka in attendance among others playing the latest Boom instalment and the upcoming Sonic Mania. However, a pair of bombshells has dropped since the event, this time concerning the far-flung Project Sonic 2017 launching next holiday season.
With translations provided by Source Gaming’s PushDustIn, it is confirmed that SEGA has plans to reveal “a completely new character in Project 2017.” We also now have a better idea of the gameplay, which is expected to follow the formula established in Sonic Generations with classic 2D and modern 3D levels – however, a “brand new component” is also going to be introduced.
Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice launched in Japan today (with a jealousy-inducing Special Edition package, no less), so SEGA decided to commemorate this occasion with a brand new trailer for the game. “What kind of trailer,” you might ask? An early preview of Sonic Mega Drive: The Next Level has been released, and it’s an extra-large continuation of what was started in Sonic Mega Drive! Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy are now one team and still looking for the Ancient Gears to stop Eggman’s weapon in its tracks, but things go awry when Sonic decides to splinter off to do things his own way.

Long time readers might remember an old weekly feature called “Sound Test Saturday,” where I highlight Sonic music remixes from across the vastness of the Internet—either found by me or submitted to the site by you—bringing you double the audio goodness alongside Mash-Up Monday. I’m happy to announce that this feature is a-go once again!

The initial solicits have been released for January’s comics, and there’s thrills to be had as both of the running arcs reach their climax! First up, in Sonic the Hedgehog #291, Sonic and Tails have spent the entire adventure running around Angel Island and becoming victim to Knuckles’ nefarious traps.
The Internet changed forever in November 2014 when Vinesauce made the great discovery that was GRAND DAD, and thus, SiIvaGunner and their bed-rocking high quality rips were born. In July, SEGA celebrated Sonic’s 25 year-legacy by revealing the throwback 2D title Sonic Mania to the world with a hype-inducing debut trailer, accompanying music “Checkpoint” courtesy of Hyper Potions and Nitro Fun.

There’s almost no argument against Sonic the Hedgehog social media being among the most—if not outright being the most—notorious of all media outlets with its high quality memes and humorous posts. That said, fans should also be keeping an eye on the official Sonic YouTube for occasional skits, such as the recent Sonic the Hedgedog videos, as well as a new miniseries premiering today called Sonic Whiteboard Adventures.
Some might remember Sonic’s simpler “Sketchhog” apperance, as he reprises it once again at the start of the video in an adorable fashion, at least before switching with his most recent Sonic Mania design from then on. The “Shattered World Crisis” arc came to an end with Sonic the Hedgehog #287, three years after the “Worlds Collide” crossover between Archie’s Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man series. While the stage is set for new arcs with an earnest Sonic Lost World adaptation in the works and Team Chaotix taking to the seas with the upcoming Sonic Universe saga next week, the main series will now be taking a step back in time with “Genesis of a Hero,” setting the stage for the Blue Blur’s humble beginnings within the new continuity.

What do Goku and Superman, Mario and Sonic, and Link and Cloud all have in common? They’re all subjects of similar calibre and prestige with comparable histories and skill sets, prompting never-ending debates online arguing over who would win over the other in a fight. That is where ScrewAttack comes in with their Death Battle series to put these debates to rest, analyzing two contenders’ weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win in these titular fights.
This isn’t the first time Death Battle hosts Wiz and Boomstick brought in a Sonic character, as Sonic, Tails, and Shadow among others have appeared in previous episodes. Sonic set aside his hydrophobia when countless Wisps were in danger as he ventured through Aquarium Park in Sonic Colours, with Eggman’s Interstellar Amusement Park laying claim to this planet for its feudal era-inspired architecture and expansive ocean. The evil Doctor’s lust for conquest later drove him to the Lost Hex, and became master of the Deadly Six, only for the Zeti to usurp him at the first opportunity; Sonic’s travels across the planetoid in Sonic Lost World soon led him to Sky Road where he confronted Zavok alone.
Select themes from both Zones, all composed by Tomoya Ohtani, have proven to be similar enough to be mashed up for this week’s Mash-Up Monday, as DarkHyperSonic7 has demonstrated with Aquarium Park Act 1 and “Dragon Dance.” Give it a listen below!

Those who like to deck out their Nintendo 3DS with fun themes were pleased to find that new Sonic themes were released on the Theme Shop last month. Each paid tribute to Sonic’s 25 year legacy with a Classic-styled theme, a Modern-era theme, a Boom-inspired theme, and a simple—and free!—anniversary theme for just a few bucks when bought separately or together in a bundle.
With that, three more Sonic series themes have been quietly released for the Nintendo 3DS in North America just last week. Two of these are based on Shadow the Hedgehog and Silver the Hedgehog respectively, with a third theme that’s too cute for words alone.

Just posted by the LEGO Dimensions Twitter account. It looks like we won’t just be seeing Sonic and Eggman in the new LEGO Dimensions pack, but also Shadow, Tails, Big, and Knuckles.
No gameplay footage was given, but fans will be overjoyed at Big the Cat in Lego form.

The preview for Sonic the Hedgehog #287 has been released, and it’s make or break time for our heroes! Sonic has managed to turn super and, with the help of Chip in the Gaia Colossus, is taking Dark Gaia on for the fate of the world!
There were a lot of ways to celebrate Sonic’s 25 years, and fans of the classics have certainly had their attention caught by Archie Comics when the Sonic: Mega Drive #1 special was released during the summer. The commemorative comic depicted Genesis-era Sonic and friends in a brand new adventure as Eggman seeks relics known as the Ancient Gears to power his MEGADRIVE doomsday device.
The sequel issue—The Next Level #1—is expected to release in November, but you can enjoy a taste of its awesome artwork early thanks to an exclusive preview from Comic Book Resources. Check out the gallery below for some Tyson Hesse and Matt Herms goodness!

Coming this December in selective galleries in the UK, a Sonic fine art exhibition is to open it’s doors across art galleries owned and operated by Washington Green.
The exhibit will feature paintings, mixed media and sculpture and will be completely original works of art.
A number of select pieces will be reproduced in limited numbers, each will come with a certificate of authenticity hand signed by Sonic the Hedgehog creator, Naoto Oshima!
A VIP launch will be take place on the 1st of December 2016, with a public showing the following day. Details as to the full venues and range are yet to be published.
