Big the Cat and Chaos Version 0 Added to JAKKS Figure Line Up

Our friends over at Sonic Merch News have spotted two new action figures being added to the JAKKS Pacific Sonic line up, with a decidedly Sonic Adventure theme!

The listings were spotted on the Smyths Toys website in the UK, with a release date (at least in this country) of March 2023; US stores will likely see these figures stocked even earlier.

Since the launch of the game in 1998, this will be the first time Chaos Version 0 has seen an action figure incarnation. The figure also appears to be transluscent, to emulate the liquid composition of the character.

Stay tuned for more JAKKS Pacific toy news as it comes!

Big the Cat Spotted In Sonic Frontiers

An image taken from this year’s Gamescom event in Germany appears to confirm that Big the Cat will feature in Sonic Frontiers.

A tweet from @Bibouboul today shows two show-goers watching an in-game scene with the massive mouser alongside Sonic, who appears to have a fishing rod in hand.

While there is no official confirmation as to Big’s role in the game, it does tease elements of the fishing game that is purported to be returning to the series.

Big the Cat Confirmed for Sonic Prime!

We may not have a trailer yet, but we do have yet another tiny teaser for Sonic Prime! This one confirms Big the Cat, and also gives us a taste of his voice. Check out the footage below!

Unfortunately, no date was revealed. The hosts did state that the show would focus on Sonic rescuing his friends, and that he may be taking them for granted at the start of the series.

Big rides again in new Team Sonic Racing footage

IDW’s Way Past Cool Sonic Panel didn’t have to show from the games, but they did have something.  They showed brief clip of everyone’s favorite overweight feline, Big the Cat, driving a kart designed to look like his best pal Froggy through an unnamed snowy environment.

Team Sonic Racing: Amy, Chao and Big the Cat Revealed As Playable Characters

The Japanese Sonic birthday party is often full of surprises – and at this year’s 27th birthday event at the JOYPOLIS theme park, Takashi Iizuka and the party hosts have used to opportunity to announce three new playable characters for Team Sonic Racing!

Images of Amy Rose, Big the Cat (in a suitably frog-themed car) and Chao (that’s four chao, comprising the Neutral, dark, and Hero Chao along with Omachao!) have been revealed as the Team Rose combination, with the Chao replacing Cream the Rabbit as the technical-based character in the established Team Rose configuration.

Check out the images of the individual characters from the stream in the gallery below.

The Spin: How I learned to Stop Worrying & Love Big the Cat

spin

Sega recently started a tournament to see which was the fanbase’s favourite Sonic sidekick, and I’m very sad to report that a great injustice has been committed, this is the biggest thing to happen to this fanbase since Sonic’s eyes became green.

That being, Big the Cat may get knocked out in the first round.

At the time of writing, Big sits at just under 40% whilst the Chao sits at just over 60%. Now we have to ask, what is wrong with this picture? What is wrong is that Big the Cat is the best character in the whole series and if he were president of the United Kingdom he would be the best president we have ever elected, since King Charles the third.

Now if you’d take a moment, just to sit right there, I shall tell you why Big the Cat is the best character in the series.

Sonic Dreams Collection Brings Your Fan Fiction Nightmares To Reality!

Ever wanted to play the games that SEGA never got around to finishing for the Dreamcast? Well now, finally, we all can!

Sonic Dreams Collection was released today by Arcane Kids, a  studio that is known for putting together “unique” little projects together, such as the return of Bubsy3D.

The concept in this new collection is that after years of lurking in the depths of development hell, a leak has caused these prototypes of the 90s to rise back to the surface. This unique group of games will see you creating your own original character, playing an MMO and not to mention the most interesting look into the world of fan fiction. Oh, did we mention things get weird very quickly?

If you’re so inclined, the “leak” can be found here with the password “grandpa”. If you aren’t in the mood for torturing your mind, and would rather watch someone else who’s brain was burnt along time ago, enjoy the videos below!

Big, Silver & Cream Added to Sonic Runners

Sega have been on a bit of a streak with their support of Sonic Runners since the game launched worldwide. New content and events have been a monthly occurrence, in fact, Sega have just added three new characters to Sonic Runners which you can actually buy through the character select screen as opposed to gambling via roulette wheel.

sonicrunnersbigsilvercreamBig the Cat, Cream and Silver have been added to the game, however they come with some very unique abilities.

For starters, fans have already dubbed these characters easy mode, due to the fact that they cut the speed of the game by 10% if you use a single character, or 19% if you use two. However, as a consequence, they also cut your score by either 50% or 75% depending if you use two or not.

Sega have said these are designed for new players who may not be used to the high speed sections in the game. However, those new players will have to spend money in order to get them. Each of these characters costs 250 red star rings to unlock, or 5 million golden rings.

Are you still playing Runners? How you finding it? Let us know in the comments.

G.E. Entertainment Reveals New Big & Espio Plushies

bigplushGE Entertainment have been on a roll lately with their plush lines, as well as being the first company to make a plush on Jet The Hawk, they’ve also produced Rouge, Chaos Zero and Classic Robotnik.

Well, it looks like Big & Espio are up next.

Both these characters haven’t had much love when it comes to plush lines, Jazwares didn’t put their Big plush into production, fans now have to rely on finding a Sonic Adventure era plush for big which is kinda pricey. Espio is even worse, he was only released in the Sonic the Fighters plush line.

espioplush

But now, both these characters will get a new plush incarnation thanks to GE. No details on release yet, but no doubt it’ll be coming out very soon since GE usually lists their products very close to release.

How can you get one? Ebay and Amazon sellers are the most likely candidates.

Thanks to Ogilvie for the heads up

Avatar Doodle Contest: The Winners

Ok, so a couple of weeks back we were treated to a sneaky peak at some DLC for Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing on the XBox 360 over on the SEGA Blognik. I set a little task to go about doodling on the avatar in a no-holds barred contest to basically make as humorous an entry as possible. Well as per usual at the promise of free goodies, the entries came in their masses, which were whittled down to just a handful. The TSS staff then had a look, and out of the selection we picked a winner…the quality of the entries was so spectacular, that I think they deserve a mention here too…

3RD PLACE: MUSHROOM 64

It looks like Sonic is taking a real pounding! Genius! Mushroom 64 is the proud winner of a First4Figures mini Knuckles figurine!

2ND PLACE: Adamis

It looks like two wheels are better than four! Big is leading the pack! I think the bias for anything Big related shone through here! Again, hillarious!  Adamis is the proud winner of a First4Figures mini Sonic figurine!

WINNER: T. Brockmüller

…OK, so I’m out of ASR quotes….but Rotor’s face cracks me up in this last frame. Also, SatAM really does not get enough love! Props to you Mr. Brockmüller – you are the proud receipient of a SEGA Prize Europe Sonic plush!

All winners please send your postal details to the competition email address, and I’ll get your prizes out to you! A big thumbs up to all of the other competitors…keep an eye out for more competitions in the future!

TSS AT WAR: Project Needlemouse

Things are bad at The Sonic Stadium. Real bad. The staff members are at war. Over the last week, we have been constantly fighting over one hot topic. A topic that has been so controversial that it makes your eyes burn and your skin itch.

Who will be in Project Needlemouse?

With only five names left to go, tensions are higher than ever with TSS staff. Oh, if only there was some way you could know the sort of arguments we’re having, gentle reader. It’s pandemonium! With each staffer backing a different character, you can just imagine the chaos that’s taking place. Here’s a mere snippet of our conflict:

Dreadknux

Guys, guys! Can we please just chill the hell out!?

Shadzter

No way! I think Sonic should be in because he has the most experience at being a Needle pimping mouse!! If it weren’t for him we wouldn’t even have this fanbase, the bunny with the stretchy ears idea? We don’t need any of that, how many game’s has Bugs Bunny starred in huh? Can he curl up in a ball? Sure he can run fast but can he break the sound barrier? No? I didn’t think so. Carrot munching? How about Chilli Dog munching? Now that’s hard core, Sonic’s got one tough belly. Take that you guys!

Paul Street

Hell no, it’s got to be Shadow! I mean think about it, it hasn’t been easy being the “Ultimate Life Form”. His best friend Maria died, he was left to rot in a G.U.N base for 50 years and then there was something about aliens that I’m going to totally ignore. But when it comes right down to it Shadow is a bad-ass and if any character in the Sonic cast will benefit from a back to basics 2D game it’s him.

Forget all of the silliness and remember how cool you felt grinding the bridge in Radical Highway being persued by the news choppers. If you strip back on the stupid back story and concentrate on navigating a level looking as cool as possible then it doesn’t get much cooler than the black and red hedgehog zipping through levels on his rocket skates. That is why Shadow needs to be in Project Needlemouse and if he doesn’t make it, I’ll eat my hat! (Or not, as I don’t own a hat).

Plus being a Sonic re-colour he’ll be easy to fit in knowing know how lazy the Sonic Team are. Oh snap!

T-Bird

I think you guys are WAAAAY off the mark. Everybody loved Vector so much in the Olympic games that SEGA decided they’d made a massive mistake cutting the bling-bling Crocodile from Sonic 1 in the never-to-happen sound test. Needlemouse is supposed to be going back to the oldschool right? I mean REAL oldschool! Then it makes sense they’d put in this guy…nothing would give me more joy than sliding through tight spaces with this dude.

Dreadknux

T-Bird, Vector’s not in the running anymore.

T-Bird

Oh. Well, I think you guys are still WAAAAY off the mark. Everybody loved Vector Amy so much in the Olympic games that SEGA decided they’d made make a massive mistake cutting the bling-bling Crocodile love interest from Sonic 1 Needlemouse in the never-to-happen sound test Shower scene. Needlemouse is supposed to be going back to the oldschool right? I mean REAL oldschool! Then it makes sense they’d put in this guy girl…nothing would give me more joy than sliding through tight spaces with this dude. (edited for younger readers).

Dreadknux

T-Bird, Amy’s not in it anymore.

T-Bird

Screw you all then, I reckon it’s Froggy. Why? Sorry, I don’t know. We are simply Na-tur-al.

JayZeach (Radio DJ)

Wait, you can’t do that! I wanted to pick Froggy! He is clearly the best character in the world, small, covert, able to get wherever he wants. It matters not that he was caught in the past because soon, he will…TAKE OVER THE WORLD, mwahahahaha, using his Sidekick Big The Cat as muscle of course.

Brad Flick

I’m backing Mr. Needlemouse all the way, because he has a kick-ass website. Go chug one, a-holes.

nuckles87

KNUCKLES, DAMMIT. KNUCKLES THE MOTHER****ING ECHIDNA. HE DON’T NEED TO BE ON NO STINKING LIST. He’ll force his presence into this through the sheer power of echidna!

Billy Bob (from behind the boiler)

Well, good golly gilly gob bam, ah dohn’ kno’ much abaht no Sawnic da Hidgehawg, no’ssir. Ah just com ‘ere ta fix yaw boilah. C’n I pik Boilah Man?

Dreadknux

What the-? No, because Boiler Man doesn’t exist. Where the hell did you come from anyway?

Billy Bob

Texas.

Dreadknux

No, I mean where in this area have you been hiding all this time?

Billy Bob

…Boilah. Ah… Ah fix da boilah.

Dreadknux

We need better security in here. Enough of that, I’ve already determined who’s going to win, and it’s certainly none of the losers you losers have picked. Losers. Everybody knows that it’s all about our saviour of the Sonic series, Big the Cat. Goddamn, that cat is pimpin’. Everything you know and love rests within that rotund vessel of consciousness.

Think about it. SEGA could totally remake Sonic the Hedgehog from the Mega Drive, only it will be in HD and instead of Sonic, you have Big the Cat, blanky busting badniks as he cannonballs down hills and destroys half of Eggman’s machines and pinball tables with his ultra-bulk. Think of Buzzbombers in normal Sonic 1 size, and then playing as a sprite three times that size. Because Big is so big, he can be the all-seeing destructor of evil.

The creator. The Alpha. The Omega. The Purple! It’s a…

Brad Flick

Dude’s out of his nut, man. Is he going to..?

Dreadknux

Oh, it’s a…

Shadzter

He’s going to sing it! Restrain him!!!

Dreadknux

OH IT’S A WINDY AND SUNNY DAAAAA-AHHHH!

… Ahem. Sorry about that. Now you know how bad things can get at TSS Towers. This is the dark side of this website, for sure, and I’m glad you don’t get to see most of it. With hours to go until the last names are struck off, it’s a race against time before we all start killing one another in some kind of Pon Farr ritual (except less sexual). Who do you think will be kept in this list, and why? Why!? WHY!? Pledge yourself against one of the final characters, for great justice! And support him in the comments box!

And don’t forget to answer SEGA’s questions (or make the company a trending topic) on Twitter either.

New Big The Cat Figure On The Horizon

Nobody could argue that Jazwares have been slacking off because off the back of several new Sonic figure reveals comes another. While the figure in question might only be Big The Cat the big news is the quality of the figure and the many points of articulation which unlike the Sonic Super Posers doesn’t leave Big looking like a knobbly kneed and elbowed freak. There’s no news of a price or even a release date as of yet thanks to the figures status of pending a license. The figure is also missing from the newly updatesd Jazwares website while the ASR figures have a ‘coming soon’ section ready even if there’s no actual content on them yet.

You can check out pictures of the prototype figure below provided by Toy News International and be sure to keep a lookout for further updates regarding any and all Sonic based figures right here at the Sonic Stadium.

E3 ’09: SSASR Gameplay Footage (Cam)

Things to note:

 • It’s Mario Kart, but shinier.
 • Big the Cat is back.  Yessssssssssssss…
 • Shadow is back on his motorcycle.
 • Billy Hatcher themed track.
 • The 7 Chaos Emeralds are one of the game’s power-ups, allowing players to go “Super.”  Combine MK’s “Bullet Bill” and famous “Blue Shell” and that’s how powerful (and annoying) it looks.  Looks like I’m staying in last place until the final lap and blowing by everybody.
 • When Super Sonic hits people, it looks like he gives them the finger.  Funny.
 • Aaaand just for fun: the shoe power-up makes cars go faster.

Every month, as most of us now know, Sonic Channel updates with a new character art, wallpaper and other goodies.

This month, we have a Big the Cat profile, along with his art and wallpaper. There is a Rouge puzzle with last month’s Rouge art added and some fan art. Lots of fun there.

Along with the site update, they have also said that the 2 in 1 packs with Sonic Advance and Sonic Battle, Sonic Pinball Party and Sonic Battle, and Sonic Advance and Chu-Chu Rocket, have been released as of the 26th of January, in Japan. However, don’t fret. There have been a few 2 in 1 packs already released for English customers. Continue reading This Month on the Sonic Channel
