Sonic Channel has launched the latest poll for its Sonic Calendar 2023 art series, and this time fans are being asked whether they would like to see Blaze the Cat partnered with Silver the Hedgehog or… Omochao.
The poll is open until Friday 7th July, so if you want your voice heard hit the Google poll and make a choice. Whoever wins will feature in a special Calendar artwork for August 2023, matching the special theme of “Isekai Ohgiri” (which is a ‘fantasy scenario’ series that puts Sonic characters in new and interesting situations).
Blaze and Silver, of course, have already featured in official fantasy art pieces in previous months, but we suspect that the legion of “Blaze x Silver” (Silaze? Blilver? What do you call it?) subfans out there will make it their lifelong mission to game the results so their favourite ship can get together. We voted for Omochao, pretty much to just piss Twitter off.

Knock knock, it’s Knuckles! The powerful Master Emerald protector takes the spotlight in the next month’s Sonic Wallpaper art series, as shared online by the official Sonic Channel social media account.
As described by Sonic Team designer Tomoko Hayane, you can really feel the “dynamism and power of Knuckles” in this latest artwork. In the Sonic Channel blog post, Hayane wonders if the enemy Knuckles is fighting here is either a bigger and stronger opponent, or just a foe that happens to be flying in the sky. What do you think?
We have JPG versions of both the Desktop and Mobile wallpapers below, but if you want the super hi-res real deal, head on over to Sonic Channel’s website and download the PNG versions straight from there.

It’s time to party! Because it’s Sonic the Hedgehog’s birthday today! SEGA Japan has marked the occasion by sharing the latest artwork in its Sonic Pict series. And as you’d expect, the focus is on the birthday boy himself.
Staging a massive concert in the middle of Studiopolis Zone, Sonic is truly king for the day. And you can see many Sonic characters in the audience celebrating with him – Tails, Amy, Mighty and Ray are all rocking glowsticks and raving out with the blue blur.
SEGA Japan released this artwork with the following message (machine translated):
The highlight of this year’s birthday party is Sonic’s birthday live!
To thank you for always celebrating with us, we will perform a lively performance
Before I knew it, the studio police camera team had arrived, and the stage was getting more and more gorgeous…! The best night is coming!
Happy Birthday Sonic
Happy Birthday Sonic, indeed!

It’s that time again! Sonic Channel is asking fans who they would like to see paired with Orbot & Cubot in an upcoming Sonic Calendar 2023 art piece. The choice is between Metal Sonic – Sonic the Hedgehog’s longtime robotic rival – or Gemerl, a key antagonist of Sonic Advance 3.
As with past fantasy polls, it pits a well-known character with one that hasn’t had much presence in the Sonic series since their initial debut. Sonic fans have trended towards voting in the lesser-known character in previous polls, to allow for some interesting artworks. So although Metal Sonic is currently leading the poll with around 52% of the vote… we wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Gemerl ultimately win this one too.
Voting ends on June 5th, and you can go ahead and make your choice known to Sonic Team via the official poll right here.

The latest Sonic Channel wallpaper has been revealed by Sonic Team designer Tomoko Hayane – and you probably won’t be surprised to learn that the blue blur himself, Sonic the Hedgehog, is the focus this month.
Celebrating his birthday on the 23rd June, SEGA’s heroic mascot features in this new batch of wallpapers and artwork. From Tomoko Hayane’s notes on the official Sonic Channel website:
Sonic this time looks like he’s recovering from a sudden attack, but on the contrary, he looks like he’s challenging himself. And the fearless smile is cool! Is that your nemesis, Dr. Eggman?
……Well, that’s what I imagine .
From the first appearance of “Sonic the Hedgehog” to the latest work, Sonic has saved the world over and over again with an expression like this illustration, even in situations where many people would despair.

In what has become a monthly tradition, SEGA’s Japanese Sonic Channel team has opened a poll to ask fans which character they would like to see in the next Isekai ‘Fantasy Artwork’ episode due later this month. This time around, Tails will be the star of the show, but only Wave the Swallow or Marine the Raccoon can ultimately join him.
Just like many of the previous polls, both options feature side (or minor) characters that would benefit from some new official artwork. Wave the Swallow made her debut in the spinoff racing series Sonic Riders, while Marine the Raccoon’s only appearance has been in the Nintendo DS sequel Sonic Rush Adventure.
It is probably the latter fact that explains why Marine is currently pulling ahead in the poll at time of writing, which is now taking place on a Google Form rather than directly on Twitter. There are many fans that want to see more of Marine, it seems!
As for the scenario, as per usual that is mostly a mystery but we do have some clues. According to machine translation of the Sonic Channel’s social media accounts, Tails will be presented as a “prince of the entertainment world”, and whoever wins this next poll will join him as his “princess”.
Who would you like to see win the poll? Let us know in the comments section below!

Because Japan is about to observe Golden Week, a national holiday, these Wallpapers have come in a little earlier than usual, but it maintain the same high-energy and quality that we’ve come to expect from these stylish art pieces. Here we see Rouge kicking into high gear with a ferocity that can only be described as, ‘Give Me My Jewels Back Energy’.
Check out high-resolution Desktop and Mobile wallpapers on Sonic Channel’s website, and find some details (machine translated) from Sonic Team’s designer Tomoko Hayane on this piece below.
Unusually, it’s a Rouge that feels intense and powerful! You can almost hear the sound of her beautiful legs kicking up.
Come to think of it, Rouge played a big role in kicks in her debut work, Sonic Adventure 2!
You even had a one-on-one battle in space with Knuckles over the Master Emerald. The exchange between Knuckles’ powerful punches and Rouge’s kicks was a heart-warming battle!
Rouge’s mysterious and slightly sexy appearance is also attractive, but I think this kind of wild and cool scene is also wonderful.
By the way, it seems that Rouge is fighting with something in this wall illustration, but who exactly is the opponent that Rouge kicks so seriously? Is it a very formidable enemy, or is it a peer in the same industry aiming for the same jewel… I can imagine various things ♪
… Well, the latest game you can play with Rouge is Team Sonic Racing! Although there is no kicking figure, you can see the same mysterious charm and cool figure driving a racing car. Please give it a try!
See you soon! See you in the next wall illustration~!

Sonic Channel has posted a new episode of its ongoing ‘Sonic Pict’ series today, ahead of Japan’s national ‘Golden Week’ holidays – this time focusing on Rouge the Bat, who is enjoying a little bit of alone time admiring one particularly precious gem.
Posted on the official Sonic JP Twitter account, the wonderfully-coloured and incredibly stylish scene is accompanied with flavour text that suggests that the sometimes-secret-agent has just completed some work for the government, with some kind words of appreciation from the President. We can see the scenery of Radical Highway in the background, along with a billboard featuring Big the Cat and a NiGHTS themed tower across the night sky.
Here’s the short story that accompanies the piece (machine translated):
“You did a great job, didn’t you? President Arigato”
After a certain big incident, there was a figure of Rouge enjoying the vacation in the suite while enjoying the beautifully shining “reward”.
The finest brilliance weaves the happy moments of the night…
From tomorrow #GoldenWeek! Have a nice vacation everyone!
Happy vacation, Japan!

Mighty takes centre stage in this new art piece published by the official Sonic Channel team, created to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the SEGASonic the Hedgehog arcade game.
Released in 1993 to a limited test audience in Japan, SEGASonic the Hedgehog was a unique arcade game that featured a trackball for movement of Sonic, Ray the Squirrel and Mighty the Armadillo (who debuted in this adventure). Players had to dash through isometric stages, bashing through obstacles as quickly as possible in order to outrun Dr. Eggman and his deadly traps.

This arcade game is the debut work of Mighty and Ray who appeared in “Sonic Mania Plus”
Characteristic trackball operation is tricky Mighty seems to be a master
It’s really nice to see Mighty (and Ray, to an extent) recognised again in official artwork/media, after their appearance in Sonic Mania Plus was largely seen as a one-off. What do you think of this art piece? Let us know in the comments below!

Sonic Channel has published its latest Calendar Artwork for May 2023, and the results of its fan poll from earlier this month have been realised! The latest in its ‘fantasy scenario’ art series, this new piece features Vector as a superhero protecting Vanilla the Rabbit (presented as a theatre-going contemporary damsel in distress) from certain robot doom.
According to the Sonic Channel blog accompanying this artwork (via machine translation), “This month [we have] Vector, looking like an American comic book hero, and Vanilla, looking a bit more adult [sophisticated]! What is the mysterious giant robot looming far beyond the city at night?”
The interesting mashup is the latest in the Sonic Channel social media team’s ‘Isekai Ohgiri’ series, which places well-known characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog series in unconventional situations and scenarios. Previously, we’ve had Shadow and Infinite doing battle as idol singers, Amy and Blaze seeking truth in some celestial powers, Tikal and Chaos running a pizza parlour and Silver and Elise stunning the crowd as ice-skating performers.
You can download this latest May 2023 Calendar art, as well as all previous months in this series, on Sonic Channel’s website.

The official Sonic Channel Japanese social account has completed its latest poll asking fans who they’d like to see in the next issue of its ongoing ‘Isekai Ohgiri’ fantasy art series – with Vanilla the Rabbit beating out her daughter Cream to feature in a new scenario with Vector the Crocodile.
According to the Sonic Channel social media post, Vector will be portrayed as some kind of ‘detective’ in the upcoming art piece, which will likely be completed and posted at the end of the month. The poll showed two emojis alongside the two character options, with Cream getting a ‘spy’ emoji and Vanilla a ‘painting fingernails’ icon. This may be a hint as to how the two characters would have been handled in the final piece.
It would have been nice to see Cream potentially run alongside Vector as a co-detective – like Batman and Robin – but Vanilla hasn’t been represented much in Sonic media outside of a side role in the Sonic Advance games and some TV and comic media. This may be just one reason why she won the poll by quite a substantial margin – 70.5% to Cream’s 29.5% result.
What are you hoping Vector and Vanilla’s partnership is going to look like? Let us know in the comments below.

It’s that time of the month again! SEGA of Japan’s Sonic Channel has released their April artwork over at Sonic Channel. This month’s art is all about Silver, and you can check out both the regular and mobile versions of it below:
But that’s not all! Silver was also the subject of some artwork from the official Sonic Japanese Twitter account. Their latest art casts Silver in the role of a delivery boy, delivering cookies and other things in Soleanna’s Castle Town. Check it out:

Did you know that spinoff Mega Drive title Sonic Spinball is going to be 30 years old this November? Well you probably did actually, because you’re a huge Sonic fan just like us. It seems that Sonic Team in Japan has remembered this fact, as they are focusing on an iconic scene in the pinball action game for its latest art piece.
Posted on the official Japanese Sonic Channel Twitter account, the new artwork features the blue blur chilling out in a handy drum barrel as he paddles his way through the game’s first stage, Toxic Caves. He seems rather embarrassed to be there – probably because whoever is controlling him can’t keep him on the pinball table. Still, it beats swimming in all that green gunge, doesn’t it Sonic?
Weirdly, the Twitter post accompanying this art piece mentions that this is a “commemorative illustration of “Sonic Spinball” celebrating its 30th anniversary this month” (via machine translation – emphasis ours). Sonic Spinball’s original release date in the West was actually November 1993, and in Japan it was the following month in December – so unless Sonic’s been using some leftover Time Stones that we’re not aware of, Sonic Channel might be getting a bit excited ahead of time here.
Still, it’s really nice to see some Spinball representation from the Japanese ‘Team, and we’re all here for it.

The latest fan poll for the Japanese Sonic Channel’s ‘Isekai Ohgiri’ fantasy artwork series has launched, and is currently asking the community which character they would like to see paired with Silver the Hedgehog – Elise from Sonic The Hedgehog (2006), or Merlina from Sonic and the Black Knight?
As with previous polls, the winning character will feature in a special art piece alongside a second pre-determined character (in this case, Silver). Both will be placed together in a surprising and interesting new scenario that fans will have never seen before.
Not many details are currently being shared as to what that Silver x Elise/Merlina scenario will be, but machine translation on Sonic Channel’s social media post suggests a sporty theme, with Silver perhaps playing the role of coach.
This poll in particular is significant because both characters have only had minor roles in the Sonic game universe, and have not had much representation outside of their respective games since. Elise in particular has never had the 2D Uekawa-style treatment, so that might be fun to see.
Fans have until Monday 6 March at 12:00 Japan time to vote for their favourite to win. Best of luck to all concerned!

SEGA Japan’s official Sonic the Hedgehog portal, Sonic Channel, has released a brand new piece of artwork for its monthly ‘Sonic Pict’ series – and as usual it’s packed full of cuteness. For February 2023, the scene is of Classic Amy baking some cookies in her kitchen, with Little Planet looming outside in the background.
If you wait here at this time of year, maybe that blue hedgehog will come back to see you?
Amy, who works hard at making sweets, wants to say a few words of thanks
Give a wonderful gift to your loved ones with your feelings
What a ‘sweet’ message (get it? Oh, never mind). See if you can spot the ‘Future’ and ‘Past’ cookies, as well as a little cameo from a certain purple cat’s best friend…

Proving that the Sonic Cafe titles are still a hit five years on, SEGA’s official Sonic Channel blog has announced a new mobile phone game for Japanese handsets – Sonic Bowling! The game is available on mobile phones on the SoftBank network, but Docomo and au network versions are coming soon.
Developed by ★ Puyo! SEGA, the game is essentially bowling with Sonic characters. The models, Hunter from the SSMB noted, look similar to the ones used in the Nintendo DS version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy are confirmed as playable characters, each with their own playing style.
As well as regular ten-pin play, you can upload your scores against the country-wide ranking system, or take part in ten missions handed to you by Dr. Eggman (because obviously he’d be able to take over the world if you sucked at bowling, or something).
If you have a touch-capable phone, there are optional control methods that take advantage of that, and if you don’t fancy spending 315 Yen on the program just yet, take solace in knowing that SEGA are offering a free trial version so you can get into the swing of the kingpin. For everyone outside Japan though, don’t take solace in the fact that, like other Sonic Cafe games, this is not likely to reach Western networks.

Just in time for Christmas Sega of Japan has seen fit to spruce up the Sonic Channel website. While no significantly new content has been added some English has crept onto the site for everyone not fluent in Japanese and everything is looking quite a lot better than it did before.
New content you can check out now include some festive fan art and if you haven’t seen it already Silver The Hedgehog has gotten the Sonic Channel Wallpaper treatment for the month of December. A new Sonic pose has been posted as line art for your colouring pleasure and Sega have also included some great little Sonic scribbles in the form of a letter set and book cover for you to print off.
If you’ve not checked the site for a while of if you’ve never heard of it now’s your chance. I’ll give you a tip though; all the fun stuff is in the ‘Enjoy’ section of the site. Happy hunting!
