They say that a work of art tends to be a reflection of the thoughts and feelings of the artist who made it. If that’s the case, then Sonic Team has been a studio seemingly crushed with anxiety for the last five years, because Sonic Frontiers is a game uncharacteristically drenched in melancholy, introspection and sadness.
From the wistful empty fields and abandoned temples of Kronos Island, to the hauntingly isolationist undertones of the soundtrack and even the narratives driving Sonic and his friends (no spoilers here, don’t worry), there’s something strangely unsettling about the vibe of Sonic Frontiers.

If you wanted any of those older digital releases of Sonic 1, 2, 3 & Knckles, and CD, you might want to get them soon, because most of them are getting delisted on May 20. This news comes via a press release from SEGA, which confirmed the delisting of these games across all platforms outside of the Nintendo Switch and mobile.
Specifically, every individually released version of Sonic 1, 2, 3, Sonic & Knuckles, and Sonic CD are all getting delisted from Steam, Xbox, Playstation 3 and Playstation Now. The SEGA AGES releases of Sonic 1 and 2 on Switch will remain, as will Sonic 1, 2 and CD on iOS and Android. The 3DS releases have yet to be specified, but with that digital service ending next year they likely aren’t bothering with it.
Sonic Channel released a somewhat more detailed list of what was being delisted, though while they say Sonic CD will be among the games getting delisted, it’s not on the list. This is likely just an oversight. You can find that here.

Today is August 15, which will be obvious to anyone who happens to be able to tell the time. Microsoft has got an interesting offer for Sonic fans out there, especially if you’re still planning to check out the new Sonic movie. Until June 15th, you can get the Sonic Movie for just $12.99 as part of the Gamer Flicks Sale. Doing so will also net you a free downloadable copy of Sonic Mania.

Good things come in pairs, and following the Sonic sale on the U.S. Nintendo eShop, Microsoft joins in with intense 50% discounts on ten more Sonic games for multiple Xbox Marketplace regions, most of which aren’t part of the Nintendo sale. As a reminder, all these games are playable on the Xbox One, and will likely be playable on the Series X in the near future.

Today’s Microsoft press conference had a surprise for long-time SEGA fans: Sonic Team’s Phantasy Star Online 2 is finally coming west, exclusively to PC and Xbox One. The game is scheduled for release in the US and Canada Spring 2020. The game has not yet been confirmed for release PAL regions. We were invited this month to attend SEGA’s Team Sonic Racing Preview Event, hosted deep in the heart of London’s Shoreditch, and get our hands on the game’s latest build! What happened was an action-packed day filled with tournaments, time trials and a LOT of gameplay impressions. So, let’s get right to it!

In a bizarre marketing twist for a game already riddled with bizarre marketing decisions, SEGA has collaborated with another YouTube personality to promote Team Sonic Racing. SEGA revealed a new, ghost-themed race track for Team Sonic Racing today: Haunted Castle. As with most of TSR’s track reveals, this new course was shown alongside its soundtrack, which was composed by Tee Lopes, performed by S.A.M.E., and features Tei Sena on violin (which is easily the highlight).
Despite its name, the race track itself appears to be based on a distorted version of Rooftop Run, with the clocktower in the image bearing a striking (though not exact) resemblance to the clock tower from that level. Check out the image and music below:
Team Sonic Racing will launch on Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC on May 21st. With only 13 of the game’s 21 tracks known, we can probably expect the rate of new track reveals to accelerate as the game’s release approaches. Be sure to stay tuned to Sonic Stadium for that and more!

SEGA released a new music track from Team Sonic Racing today, from the course “Market Street.” The course, based on the location “Spagonia” from Sonic Unleashed, utilizes a remix of the soundtrack from that game’s daytime action stage, Rooftop Run. The remix is composed by none other than famed Sonic music composer Jun Senoue and the band Hyper Potions, who created the Sonic Mania tracks “Friends” and “Time Trials.” You can check out the music below:

Amazon Italy has recently put up a listing for a Sonic Double Pack for Switch, PS4, and XBO. All we know so far is that one of the games included will be Sonic Mania Plus (including its artbook and reversible cover), while the other is described to be a Sonic game characterized by innovative 3D graphics. Following the worldwide release of Sonic Mania Plus last week, the first data indicates that the Nintendo Switch version accounted for 52% of all sales in the UK last week. The PS4 version accounted for 34% while the Xbox One version made up the remainder.

Last year’s explosive release of Sonic Mania wasn’t just about a game that ended up thrilling both new and old blue blur fans. In a new interview with Famitsu, Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka revealed some interesting details about how long-lost Sonic characters Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Squirrel managed to make their way into Sonic Mania Plus.
