After a leak showing that the game was potentially delayed to 2019, the official Sonic twitter account has just confirmed that the game will be delayed to May 21st, 2019.
Hey guys! To make Team Sonic Racing the best game it can be, we’re giving the team extra time to work on it. Our new release date is May 21, 2019.
We know delays are no fun, but quality matters most. Thanks for your patience – we’ve got more to show you for TSR very soon!

The account is run by Sega of America so it’s certain to at least be the case in NA, but it’s near certain that this affects EU as well, and possibly Japan.

People are just regurgitating this now, even to the point were Yooka-Laylee is STILL treated like a black sheep, even after the huge update and release on the Switch.
And again, it’s a racing game, and it’s not like it’s the next Mario Kart 8. Also, it’s very hard to botch up a racing game to unfinished Sonic 2006 levels. Not to be a nitpick, but not much separates this particular title from past Sonic racing games

I guess the DLC update for Sonic Mania is the sole new game for this year (mobile games don’t count)….
To give the game more polish, and probably expand the roster
because feedback was brought up about the unclear UI, the enviromental effects not being there (such as the splash when a whale lands in the ocean) and the characters not animating like they do in all-stars racing.
theres also the framerate issues, speed of the game and the lack up information about the game leading upto the release.
I gotta say, I was really hoping to be able to play this by the end of the year, but at the same time I’M SO HAPPY TO SEE SEGA FINALLY DELAYING GAMES THAT NEED EXTRA WORK!! This is awesome!
I think this is also going to raise my expectations for the game, however. Mainly, I’m hoping that the Switch port ends up comparable to other platforms. Would love to be able to easily carry it around with me and get friends to try it out anywhere I go, as opposed to having to buy it for PS4. Either way, really excited to get my hands on this one!
There’s a joke somewhere here about sonic games and quality control but I can’t think of one so best joke I got is sonic 06
delaying won’t change game itself’s base quality.
Good move, the game has gotten so much mixed previews from its demo’s their going to fix it.
Plus with Smash bros Ultimate, Red dead redemption 2, Spyro and many other big hitters coming out which will take over the limelight for the holiday season, Team Sonic racing probably would have gotten lost and flopped.
So this is a good thing for it.
And cue everyone complaining for a delay which means, oh no, they don’t get a game as soon as they hoped.
Settle down children, you’ll get to play with your toys eventually, they just wanna make sure it isn’t broken.
If they need more time so be it.
I’m happy. This game needs more work.
