Love playing Sonic Dash but absolutely hated having to collect (and lose) all of those tokens in order to feel like you were progressing through the character roster? Well hate no more, because SEGA HARDlight has announced it will be revamping its character reward system by introducing new ‘character cards’.
The idea is this: players grab Character Cards that appear on the track (in much the same way as Character Tokens before), but these items will then go into a special collection where you will get to keep them forever. Meaning that it will only be a matter of time before you earn enough cards to unlock and upgrade your characters.
According to the announcement from HARDlight, there will be four rarities of card available – Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary, with Legendary cards only being available during special events.
It sounds an awful lot like the system in place for the mobile developer’s other game, Sonic Forces Speed Battle – which is a system that makes sense, so it’s good that HARDlight is integrating it into its older Dash title to keep things up to date.
The Character Card update will be released on Thursday July 13th.

SEGA HARDlight has announced the next wave of new characters for Sonic Forces Mobile, and for Silver and Sonic Prime fans there is a lot to be happy about. Super Silver will be joining the race for the first time, as well as Shatterverse protagonists Knuckles the Dread and Thorn Rose. And for Super Silver, we’re treated to an incredible CG render that harks back to some classic Sonic Channel Yuji Uekawa artwork. Check out the images below.
The images come from Sonic Forces Mobile superfan SonicWindBlue, with the details and dates pulled from SEGA HARDlight’s Discord server – Knuckles the Dread will be the first character available to unlock during this season, with his event running from 15 June – 22nd June. Then, Super Silver will be bogarting Sonic’s birthday by having his event run from 22nd June – 29th June. And then, Thorn Rose will be unlockable from 13th July – 20th July.
We will add all of these events to the Sonic Stadium Events Calendar soon, so you can keep track.
In addition to all this multiverse multi-character madness, the Sonic Forces Mobile app in general was updated to version 4.18 today, here’s a list of changes made to the game with this new patch (via HARDlight’s Discord channel):
Fixed an issue where Babylon Rogue characters could get stuck in their jumping animation after slamming onto grind rails
Fixed an issue where the text for ‘Special’ rarity would go onto two lines when language set to Russian
Fixed an issue where the text for ‘Challenger’ rarity would go onto two lines when language set to German or Russian
Fixed an issue with the visual effect of second dash pad (on triple dashpad boost)
Removed the incorrect free chest reward info displayed in tiers section
Fixed an issue with the party match ticket icon that sometimes appears in Lightning Deals
Fixed an issue where suspending the app when activating Super Form could prevent ring drain
The new update now comes with an awesome-looking new splash screen featuring Super Silver (via SWB):

What do you do when you start to run out of alt characters for your mobile game? Make alts of the alts, of course! SEGA HARDlight is getting creative with this latest tease of a new Sonic Forces: Speed Battle runner. Meet ‘Dragon Hunter Lancelot’!
The above image was shared on the mobile developer’s Discord server, with more information published on Sonic Forces Mobile’s news feed. We’re assuming the design is a Shadow-based take on the Monster Hunter crossover designs that we recently saw in Sonic Frontiers, only using Sonic and the Black Knight’s Lancelot character as a base.
As you can see, this new alt character’s stats are a little different to the regular Lancelot – you can see the skills that you can use once you unlock this character in the image above too.
If Dragon Hunter Lancelot tickles your fancy, you should be able to unlock him during a new upcoming event called ‘Dragon Slayer’, which will run from 18th May until 25th May.

After casually announcing it without much fanfare, SEGA HARDlight has shadow-dropped the dates for its newest Sonic Forces and Sonic Dash characters, Popstar Amy and Rockstar Rouge. And what’s more, you can start working towards unlocking one of these new players right now!
Tucked away in its community Discord channel, SEGA HARDlight revealed via its Events Calendar that the first event in the ‘World Tour’ series has begun today. Popstar Amy has arrived in Sonic Forces: Speed Battle, and if you want to keep her as an active competitor you must collect a number of character tokens in order to have her on the roster.
We also know the cadence of the rest of the ‘World Tour’ events, too. Once Popstar Amy ends on 20 April, Rockstar Rouge will be available for a limited time in Sonic Forces until 27 April. Then the two characters move on to Sonic Dash, with Popstar Amy available between 20 – 26 April and Rockstar Rouge taking the stage from 27 April until 02 May.

SEGA HARDlight recently teased some new incoming characters for avid players of its mobile Sonic games, with the below image shared on its social media accounts last week. Now, following a server maintenance update we know more about the two musical racers about to hit Sonic Forces Mobile and Sonic Dash.
Promising “sweet melodies and electrifying guitar solos”, Popstar Amy and Rockstar Rouge will soon take centre stage in an upcoming in-game event, likely to be formally announced next week once HARDlight’s Spring-themed catch-up event ends.
Both new characters will come with an exhilarating 10/10 Speed stat when they arrive in Sonic Forces Mobile, but Popstar Amy will be built more for Acceleration (7/10), with a Strength stat of 6/10. Meanwhile, Rockstar Rouge goes all out on Strength (8/10) at a cost to Accel (6/10).
Popstar Amy will be equipped with Wind Boost and Tornado, along with new skill Solo Hit that constantly drops stun hazards ahead of your rivals as long as it’s active. Rockstar Rouge hits the track with Electro Boost and Storm Cloud, on top of a skill called Hard Rock – this will silence any nearby rivals and also fire off multi-lane projectiles at further-away enemies!
The introduction of these two new characters should spice up the action on the circuit, no doubt! We can’t wait for the in-game event to begin.

Every year, Famitsu published brief interviews with various video game developers on their hopes and plans for the coming year. This year, Sonic Team’s Takashi Iizuka was among the 141 devs interviewed, who hinted at what would be in store for Sonic in 2023:
“This past year was the biggest year in Sonic history, including the release of the movie sequel, new titles Sonic Origins and Sonic Frontiers, and the Netflix animation Sonic Prime. We are preparing a second wave to keep the fans happy and maintain that momentum going into 2023. We already announced additional content for Sonic Frontiers, but there is a lot more outside of that, so please look forward to it.”
So it sounds like there is a lot of unannounced Sonic stuff planned for 2023! We already know about a mobile Sonic game currently in development over at SEGA Hardlight. If anything else is coming this year, we’ll know soon enough.

This strange alter-ego of Sonic the Hedgehog is still pretty much an enigma since his appearance in Sonic and the Secret Rings, but this week Darkspine Sonic will be available as an unlockable playable character for a limited time in SEGA HARDlight’s Sonic Forces: Speed Battle.

It looks like we’ve got a new mobile Sonic game incoming from SEGA Hardlight, if a new job listing on Gameindustry.biz’s jobs board is any indication. The job listing is for a lead artist, who will work on a “new Sonic game,” who will, among other things, need to be ready to “push the limits mobile gaming to near-console levels.” While not technically an official confirmation, it might as well be.
The job listing also includes another interesting detail: this new mobile title will be apparently be an “ambitious” narrative driven platforming game. This would be new for a Sonic mobile game, which typically focus on very arcade-y game play (such as autorunners or racing games), that only occasionally have a story mode, and have never tackled traditional platforming. Beyond this detail, little else is currently known about the project.

With Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s premiere mere days away, we finally have some info on what the Sonic Forces mobile game will be doing for the movie. Today, SEGA Hardlight confirmed a month of Sonic 2 events for the game, which appear to be focusing on Movie Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. It seems likely Movie Tails and Knuckles will join the roster. The game’s previous movie event brought three new characters and a brand new race course, so we may get something similar here.
The event will run from April 1 to May 1, and further information will be revealed via the in-game newsfeed. You can find the graphic released alongside the announcement below:

Finally. We’ve all waited nearly six months for a morsel of information on what SEGA may be planning to celebrate Sonic the Hedgehog’s 30th Anniversary. For a character best known for his lightning-fast speed, updates have been almost-controversially slow. But yesterday, SEGA revealed a special livestream taking place on May 27th focusing on Sonic announcements and news. So, what could they have lined up?

Even after seven years, Sonic Dash is still getting significant content and character updates. And with this latest news it’s clear to see why – SEGA Hardlight’s mobile auto-runner is a huge cash cow, earning nearly $11 million since its initial release – reportedly more revenue than the last five Sonic mobile games combined. Sonic’s mobile games have been focused on making more Sonic characters playable for years now, making deeper and deeper cuts into the game canon. Now, Hardlight seems to be mining Sonic’s IDW comics for new characters, according to data uncovered by Twitter user Bluwolfboy. He dug into the latest build of the Android version of Sonic Dash, and uncovered two new characters: Tangle the Lemur and Whisper the Wolf! These two characters were introduced early on in Sonic’s IDW run, and became so popular the soon got their own four-part mini series!
Bluwolfboy uncovered fully 3D models and character icons. They also posted proof that the characters are in the data, and Tails Channel was able to independently verify it themselves.
This is a major milestone, not just for IDW Sonic, but for Sonic comics in general. Aside from the Freedom Fighter’s cameos in Sonic Spinball, and a few canceled games, this marks the first time Sonic comics characters have been present in a game! That said, we’re probably still a long way off from any members of the Archie cast popping up in anything.
You can check out Tangle and Whisper’s game assets below. If you want access to the actual models, check out the source at the bottom of the page! Obviously, it is currently not known when these characters will be available, but given they are in the data we probably won’t be waiting too long!

Tikal, the ancient echidna spirit from Sonic Adventure, will be joining the Sonic Forces mobile roster soon. SEGA Hardlight announced her on their Twitter account, with the image posted below.
This will be only the third time Tikal has ever been playable. There is currently no word on when she will be available, or how difficult she will be to unlock. Be sure to check Sonic Stadium for more details in the future!

What’s hedgehog-shaped, utterly heartless and absolutely terrifying? Metal Sonic dressed up like the Grim Reaper, of course. And boy, does he look more menacing than ever. So, with Apple Arcade launching today, we’re finally getting our first in-depth looks at both Sonic Racing and Chu Chu Rocket! Universe. With no official footage being released, we decided to record our own footage of these games.
It should be noted that both of these games are being recorded off of an iPhone 7, which could only achieve medium graphical quality for either game. This footage is not representative of how the games will look on more advanced hardware.
For Sonic Racing, I recorded the tutorial and a few races in the default vertical orientation, before later recording some footage horizontally. Check them out below:
I actually found it more difficult to play this game with the landscape orientation. Here’s hoping the Apple TV version has controller support:
For Chu Chu Rocket! Universe, I recorded the opening minutes of the game, including some bits of story mode, then recorded another puzzle separately to show off how arrows are selected (and because it was the first puzzle I had some trouble with).
You’ll find those recordings below:
Be sure to stick around for more news on these and other games!

The Sonic Forces Speed Battle ‘Rivals League’ event has finished, and there can only be one winner. Turns out, Team Sonic took the crown with 13,000 points over Team Rose’s 12,532. So close. SEGA HARDlight will be revving their engines this weekend!
A team from the company behind the mobile app Sonic Dash will be taking part in the Twin Town Challenge 2018 using their Sonic Dash car, a refurbished 1999 BMW 528i.
The race sees 100 cars, comprised entirely from suped-up “bangers” purchased for £500 or less, drive from Oxfordshire in the UK to Le Touquet, France, all the way taking part in challenges.
All competitors raise money for SpecialEffect, a charity who specialise in developing gaming technologies for disabled children.
You can support the team by making a donation via their Just Giving donation link…and if you’d love to own the “Dash-mobile”, the car will be auctioned after the race with the proceeds also going to charity!
Check out the gallery below for some images of the car and the team before they set off on this wacky race!

Sega has officially announced Sonic Dash for all iOS devices and is coming “soon”. Hardlight Studios, the team behind Sonic Jump, is once again at the helm of this Sonic game (so expect micro transactions.) Not many details have been mentioned so far, but it sounds very much like a 3D infinite runner not unlike Temple Run and it’s expected to include leaderboards as well.
