According to a couple of our readers, the official Sonic Facebook page leaked the Sonic Lost World announcement early this morning, including three images and the promise of more details May 29th. One of the images sounds like the above one released this afternoon, while another is said to have featured the outline of six ‘guardians’ from the game who may be friends or foes. What gives these details some credibility is that both readers say the leaked post mentioned the SEGA and Nintendo partnership for the next three Sonic games BEFORE it was even announced this afternoon.
You can read the 2 comments after the jump. Thanks to M.S. and Bark the Polar Bear for the info.
If you saw the images and managed to grab them before they were removed, please send us a news tip at news@sonicstadium.org.

Woah nelly, Sonic fans were in for a freaking treat this morning! First up, as you may recall, the name Sonic Lost World was trademarked by SEGA yesterday, prompting a large amount of buzz within the community as a reveal seemed to be right around the corner. This morning, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata unexpectedly began today’s scheduled Nintendo Direct with news pertaining to Sonic the Hedgehog. A new Sonic game has been revealed! Well, not exactly new, but still!
Joining fellow Genesis favourites Super Hang-On and Space Harrier in Japan, the one, the only, and the original Sonic the Hedgehog is coming to its native Nintendo 3DS eShop on May 15th of this year!
To be released as a 3D Classic, Sonic 3DS features the ability to play the original game with three dimensional depth, customizable controls, and the ability to toggle between the Japanese and “Overseas” versions, and Mega Drive 1 and 2 sound formats, as reported on Sonic Retro. Like the upcoming Taxman/Stealth remastered iOS version, players are also given the option to play the game with or without the Spin Dash.
A price is set for 600¥, and there is no confirmation of a Western release at this time.

Tails Adventure could be on its way to the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console, if a rating made by the Australian Ratings Board is any indication. The Game Gear game, one of two titles Tails stars in on the platform, was rated March 4th with SEGA Europe as publisher, suggesting the game could be on its way to Australia and Europe soon. RPG game Crystal Warriors, released recently in Japan, has also been rated.
We’ll keep an eye out for further developments.

SEGA has finally spoken out about the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed on their blog. The post on said blog has revealed that the game will include 22 characters (including your Mii character), with over 20 tracks and arenas to explore. 3DS specific features include StreetPass challenges and features and multiplayer with up to seven of your friends using multi cart or single cart play.

UPDATE: It’s been rated for Nintendo 3DS by the US ratings board the ESRB, too.
A new rating has appeared for the Game Gear title Sonic Drift 2, suggesting that the game may finally be heading overseas to the Nintendo 3DS eShop following its release last year in Japan. The racing title was rated January 8th by the Australian Classification Board, with SEGA Europe as publisher, meaning the game is likely at least heading to Australia and Europe sometime soon. Oddly, the game is listed for ‘DVD’ as the platform, but is most likely a mistake. We’ll let you know when we hear more.

Retailers have been listing another delay for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed on 3DS for a little while now, but in their new release schedule, Nintendo has confirmed the delay to February 2013 for Europe. US and Australian retailers are also listing a delay to February 2013, so expect a delay in those territories, too.
SEGA hasn’t commented on this fresh delay, with their website still saying it’s out now in Europe and Australia, and will release December 11th 2012 in the US. The PS Vita version has been quietly released in Europe today, still without release date information, game details, screenshots and video from SEGA. If that’s anything to go by, things don’t look promising for the 3DS version.

Fans looking forward to the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed may have to wait a little longer if updated retailer listings are anything to go by. The game was already delayed a while back in the US to December 11th, while Europe and Australia have been left hanging with no date and SEGA’s website still saying it’s “Out now”, though retailers have been saying December 6th (AU) and December 7th (EU)… until now.
Amazon and GameStop websites in both the US and Europe have updated their listings for S&ASRT 3DS to various dates ranging from January 25th 2013 to February 15th 2013. Could the game be getting delayed again? With an extreme lack of news and media for this version of the game, it wouldn’t be surprising if the game isn’t ready and needs more development time.
We’ll keep our eyes open for an official update and pass on anything we learn.

With 9 days to go until the game’s Australian release and 10 days until its European release, fans looking to pick up the 3DS and/or PS Vita versions of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed really want to know if the game will see a delayed release like in the US or not. The delay was announced a month ago by SEGA of America, but SEGA Europe hasn’t announced a similar delay here in Europe or Australia. Their European press site, website and recent press releases all still list the handheld versions for a November 16th release.
To clear everything up, Sumo Digital’s Steve Lycett aka S0L has revealed at the SSMB that the team are still working on the handheld versions and so a November 16th release is unlikely. Lycett says they will release slightly later than the console versions.
Given we’re still working on it, 16th November UK release is unlikely. I think SEGA either have or are due to announce the handheld dates over here, they’re slightly later than the home console versions.
Lycett also confirmed that the PC version will release later than the console versions, too.
Again, I can’t say much here, it’s SEGA call to announce dates. All I can say right now is it’s going to after the console release date, but that’s all I can say.
Once SEGA announces release dates for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed on 3DS, PS Vita and PC, we’ll let you know.

Today, Nintendo of America revealed the first gameplay footage of the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed …and it’s looking pretty good. The tracks shown look identical to their console counterparts, which is a big step-up to how the Nintendo DS version of the first game compared to the console version. It looks like Sumo Digital is really taking advantage of the extra power of the Nintendo 3DS. You can check out the gameplay footage in the video above.

It looks like there is a reason why we’ve not seen the Nintendo 3DS and PS Vita versions of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed – they’re behind schedule. Gaming Age has just been sent a slightly different version of the game’s most recent trailer that lists the handheld versions at the end with a US release date of December 12th 2012. The website says this trailer is part of SEGA’s New York Comic-Con press releases, so we may see this date and maybe more information announced about the handheld releases soon, but the trailer suggests we won’t be seeing footage of them.

The Australian Clarification Board has rated Sonic Blast and Sonic Labyrinth for the 3DS Virtual console. While I could think of much better Sonic Game Gear games to put on the 3DS, you gotta admit that it’s an…interesting choice. Sonic Blast is a 2-D platformer with 3-D rendered graphics (ALA Sonic 3-D Blast) and very choppy animation while Sonic Labyrinth is considered by many fans to be one of the worst Sonic games of all time. When these games will be available or in what countries is still unknown, but it should be later this year. In the meantime, read on to check out some gameplay videos from both of these titles.

Game Gear titles Sonic Triple Trouble and Shinobi have been rated by US ratings board the ESRB for the Nintendo 3DS system. Nintendo announced March 2nd last year that Game Gear games are coming to the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console library, with SEGA Japan following up the next day with a list of five games they planned to release, which included Sonic Triple Trouble and The GG Shinobi.
Could this rating indicate that we may be seeing Game Gear titles on the Nintendo 3DS in the US sooner rather than later?

Despite a full week of sales for the Nintendo 3DS and retail PC versions, Sonic Generations has failed to move higher in the UK Top 40 All Formats chart this week and instead retained its position at no.25. In the Top 30 PS3 chart, the game held on to its place at no.13, while in the Top 40 Xbox 360 chart it stepped up two places from no.21 to no.19. In the Top 10 Nintendo 3DS chart and Top 20 PC chart, it’s not good news, as Sonic Generations has fell from no.4 to no.8 in the former and dropped off the latter completely.
However, it’s good news for Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, with the Wii game having moved up two places from no.13 to no.11 in the Top 40 All Formats chart and retaining its no.2 spot in the Top 30 Wii chart.

The November issue of Nintendo Power is making its way into readers’ hands and inside is a preview of the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations that reveals Tropical Resort as a stage in the game. SSMB member speedfreak says the preview contains screenshots that show it’s not a recreation of the level seen in the DS version of Sonic Colours, but of the Wii version of the game. It now appears those hoping for some handheld stages to return in this version of Sonic Generations are out of luck.

The UK’s Official Nintendo Magazine has previewed the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations in their latest issue and within it are a few details about physics, Casino Night Zone and the Metal Sonic Rival challenge.
* Regarding Classic Sonic’s physics, the magazine says “The Mega Drive physics are more or less spot-on, and far better than they were in recent WiiWare release Sonic 4.”
* According to ONM, Classic Sonic’s Casino Night Zone music is “slightly modernised but for the most part it’s faithful to the ditties from the older games.”, while the remixed Modern Sonic version is “bursting with saxophone solos and various other musical flourishes.”
* The Metal Sonic boss battle is a race to reach the end of the level before he does. ONM says “It reminds us of the two-player mode in Sonic 2 and it’s a fun, challenging stage.”
ONM will have a review of the game in next month’s issue, which is due out in UK stores November 17th. To read their full preview, pick up their December issue at your local retailer now for £3.99.

You may remember we reported September 9th that UK Wii Nintendo Channel show Nintendo TV News announced that they would have an exclusive preview for the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations in their then next episode on September 23rd. Well, that preview never came and has been missing since with no word of when we can expect it. That is, until today.
At the end of today’s show it was announced that next Friday’s show on October 28th will now feature their Sonic Generations 3DS preview as well as an interview with Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka. Let’s just hope the show airs as planned this time. We’ll pass on any new information revealed in the episode.
