ASRT DLC: Simon From Yogscast Joins the Roster & Humble Bundle Detailed.

ASRTcharity
Credit to Sonic Retro for the image

A few days ago, Sumo Digitals Steve Lycett hinted that the next piece of ASRT DLC would be controversial, PC exclusive and ‘a popcorn moment.’ Many have since speculated what this might mean, theories have ranged from ASRT being Free To Play, to certain very popular characters being included in the game (excluding the console versions) and even 1970’s Trousers Mode… what it could happen.

Well… we might have found the answer.

During the livestream of the very popular PC gaming channel “Yogscast,”Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed will be included in a new Humble Bundle for charity. However the reveal didn’t end there. Simon from the Yogscast then went on to state that he himself would become a racer in ASRT and be part of a piee of charity DLC that would all go live on December 6th.

They didn’t reveal much, only that both the bundle and the DLC would be up on December 6th 2013, and that Simon would be a piece of ‘Charity DLC.’ We’re not sure at this time if Simon is the only playable character being added or if there will be others.

Now before people ‘react’ just keep in mind that this is blatently a charity thing so nobody has had a spot taken away. Furthermore, S0L has hinted additional content is on the way and that this is likely the first of a few pieces of additional content for ASRT.

Also think about it. ASRT on the PC, pay what you want? This is a heck of a deal!

Sonic Dashes Onto Android Phones At Last

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tXXBYGvvlw

Negative Nancies and Debbie Downers need not speak ill of the lack of Sonic Dash on Android devices as of today, for SEGA and Hardlight Studios have finally released the endless runner onto the Google Play store for free!

The app’s surprise release follows the tease SEGA had spread from its social media networks just yesterday, and players will be pleased to know that they won’t be missing out on certain events that went down on the iOS version of the game any longer, such as the ongoing Zazz boss battle event tying in with the recent Wii U/3DS release of Sonic Lost World.

If you are reading this from your Android phone, I think you know what you have to do!

Pre-Order Now: First 4 Figures Sonic Generations “City Escape” Diorama

f4fgenerationsstatue1

Chances are if you wanted one of these you’ve already pre-ordered by now, but here you go anyway. First 4 Figures have opened pre-orders for their Sonic statue, however unlike previous editions, this is part of their new ‘diorama’ range.

The scene depicts modern and classic Sonic skateboarding through the iconic City Escape stage as depicted in Sonic Generations. Whilst the statue may get a lot of you excited, some may end up being priced out of these as they’re VERY expensive!

The standard edition is limited to 1000 units and costs $299.99 (£185)

The ‘exclusive’ edition is limited to 450 units and costs $329.99 (£204)

However, don’t forget those prices do not include shipping, for people living in the UK you’re looking at an extra $30 on top of that.

Now for a limited time F4F have issued discount codes for each statue which takes $25 off the regular and $30 off the exclusive.

Also if you are interested in pre-ordering, please be aware of what the statue will actually look like when you get it, the image at the top is very eye catching but it also has a lot of photoshopped effects that will not be on the final statue, this is a more true to life image of what it will look like.

f4fgenerationsstatue2

So, anyone here got a pre-order down?

Sonic Lost World demos in Europe this Thursday

Sonic Lost World July screenshots 6Better late than never! In one of the most topsy-turvy release schedules ever, demos for both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions of Sonic Lost World will be arriving in Europe when the eShop updates this week, on Thursday at around 2 or 3pm British time. This follows the demos hitting the US last week and Japan last month – which, when you consider that Europe got the full game before either of those regions, is a rather baffling series of events.

As with the other demos, the EU Sonic Lost World demos will likely contain Windy Hill Zone 1 on Wii U, in addition to Windy Hill Tutorial and Windy Hill Zone 1 on 3DS. If you’ve not played either of the versions yet and want to try them out before you buy – especially with Christmas on the horizon! – now’s finally the chance to do so.

Will you be downloading the demos when they arrive in Europe later this week? Let us know in the comments!

First 4 Figures have just announced the first in a new line of Sonic statues… and it’s incredible.

Part of a new Dioramas series of statues (yes that does imply there are more to come), the first in the series is ‘Sonic Generations City Escape’ and shows classic and Modern Sonic skateboarding through City Escape.

No details on price just yet, however pre-orders open up on November 19th (next tuesday) for those who are interested.

I hope your wallets are ready!

Sonic Lost World demos finally arrive in the US

28020SONIC_LOST_WORLD_Wii_U_Screenshots_720p_1280x720_v1_4Sonic Lost World arrived on Nintendo systems in the US a couple of weeks ago but if you haven’t gotten around to picking it up yet and want to give it a try, then rejoice – you can finally go hands on with demos for both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions! (only a month after Japan, but let’s not be bitter…)

Both demos can now be downloaded from their respective eShop service and can be played a maximum of 10 times – more limited than a typical Nintendo demo, but considering the game is already out waiting for you to buy it, it should be enough to help make your mind up one way or the other.  The Wii U demo contains Windy Hill Zone 1 while the 3DS demo contains the Windy Hill Tutorial as well as Windy Hill Zone 1.

There’s no word on the demos appearing on the European eShop services at the time of writing.

Don’t forget you can also read our reviews of the Wii U version and 3DS version to help you decide if the game is for you.

Steam Listing Reveals New DLC for Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed!

When you think about it Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed has been out for well over a year… yet it still continues to get support and this includes free additional characters… Thats awesome! Hey videogame industry, this is how you get people to buy your future games!

Anyway…

asrtdlc

It looks like more DLC is on the way if this steam listing appears to be correct. It would appear that Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is to get some new DLC, but whats interesting is that previous character updates have been included in patches and updates, this is the first time that a DLC listing has been made seperately for the title.

Could this be the long rumored petition characters? And will they come to consoles? Erm… I don’t know, I’m not in charge of that stuff.

Stay tuned to TSS for more information as we get it.

For starters, the official Mario & Sonic website has updated with full details on all of the game’s modes, including the Olympic Events and Dream Events, as well as showcasing some brand new character artwork for Teams Mario and Sonic.

And as if that wasn’t enough, we have lots of new (albeit brief) gameplay videos courtesy of TheBitBlock and GameXplain on YouTube, giving you a chance to see the game in action ahead of its impending release. Zazz Joins The Brawl… er… Dash!

In a surprising new update to coincide with the release of Sonic Lost World, you can now fight Zazz from the Deadly Six in a brand new boss battle in the mobile-exclusive Sonic Dash.

As can be seen in the trailer above, you’ll be facing off with the crazed Zeti atop his Moon Mech, dodging his star attacks until you get the chance to show him who’s boss and homing attack him into oblivion. It appears you’ll encounter Zazz at random as opposed to a set place in any of the stages.

The new update also includes a Deadly Six Card Collection Challenge where players from all around the world have to collect a set number of cards that can be found throughout the stages – once a certain total is reached, participants will receive some Lost World themed prizes!

You can download the Sonic Dash update now for a limited time only on the iOS. There is still no news on the game arriving on Android devices, though you can be sure we’ll let you know as soon as anything is announced.

What do you think about Zazz making an appearance in Sonic Dash? Would you like to see some of the other Deadly Six show up at a later date too? Let us know in the comments!

ASRT’s Fact Sheet Details New Features & Hints New Characters?

asrtios

Just over a week ago, Sega confirmed that Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed would be headding to mobile devices and that the game wouldn’t just be a port of the console or handheld versions.

Few details or specifics were given, however, Sega have released a fact sheet which does go into some details as to what new features will be included as well as one interesting note about characters.

You can find the full fact sheet at the end of this update, however, the most interesting points are as follows.

Social/Facebook connectivity: You can see your friends facebook pictures on the courses as you play.

Daily & Weekly challenges: odds are these will be similar to Sonic Dash/Jumps challenges.

But here is the most interesting point. The game has only 10 characters to start with. Which is in line with the console versions, now, aside from the PC exclusives which were included from the start or via updates, every other character could be unlocked via world tour mode (exceptions are Alex Kidd and Metal Sonic). But the Fact Sheet claims many more All-Stars coming soon! Suggesting that there will be more characters included at a later date?

Sonic Lost World DLC Not Working in Canada

deadly six edition

UPDATE: SEGA’s RubyEclipse has answered the topic at the SEGA Forums to inform that SEGA is now investigating the problem.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your patience – we’re investigating this now. 🙂

If you’re having the issue and haven’t already, please do send in a ticket to Customer Support so we have you in our records.

Original story:
Sonic Lost World has finally been released in North America today, but it appears the wait hasn’t been completely worth it for those purchasing the Wii U version in Canada specifically. SSMB member XD375 grabbed his copy of the Wii U Deadly Six Bonus Edition today at his local EB Games store, but when he got home and tried to enter his DLC code on the eShop, it wouldn’t work. XD375 reports that his Canadian friends at other forums are also having this problem, as is a Canadian user over at the SEGA Forums.

American residents aren’t reporting any issues, so it appears the problem might be that SEGA has accidentally put codes intended for the American eShop in with the Canadian copies of the game, which don’t work on the Canadian eShop. Worse still, XD375 says his EB Games Store hasn’t received the advertised pre-order bonus DLC either.

XD375 has created a topic in the customer support section of the SEGA Forums, but so far hasn’t received a reply. If we hear anything from SEGA on the matter, we’ll update.

Thanks to XD375 at the SSMB for the heads up!

They’ve also re-confirmed the release date to be November 2013, and stated that this will be a 1 player experience only… so no 2 player online Vs mode?

ComicVine Interviews Ian Flynn on Archie’s Countdown To Chaos Story Arc

With the recent crossover of Sonic the Hedgehog and Megman from thier respective Archie comics over with, what’s next for the our blue hero? (Sonic not Megaman).

3346516-sonicthehedgehog_253-0

Writer of the Archie Sonic the Hedgehog comics Ian Flynn recently took some time to talk to Comic Vine to about the next saga, ‘Countdown to Chaos.

The interview goes into detail about the repercussions from the crossover with Megaman and what to expect in the next few issues.

CV: Where did the decision come to have actual repercussions after the crossover instead of just starting a new adventure?

IF: In our last major event, Sonic: Genesis, we did a temporary rewrite of the world. When we returned to the status quo, the main complaint from fans was a lack of repercussions. After the major shake-up that was the Worlds Collide crossover, we knew we couldn’t play it safe this second time around.

Something that will please long time Freedom fighter fans is the return of Bunnie Rabbot and who knows we may finally get some answers as to where she disappeared to.

CV: We’ll be seeing the debut of Bunnie Rabbot as well. How much of a role will these characters play in future issues?

IF: Bunnie’s a mainstay, but you could also argue this entire story arc is about “debuting” the Freedom Fighters all over again. When last we left her, she was stripped of her robotic powers and went missing – So when we see her again in Countdown to Chaos there will be changes!

Oh and of course the return of someone else who has been missing from the Freedom Fighters for sometime now, but I would think everyone would know who that is by now.

Check out the full interview here, (spoiler warning).

Update: Sonic Lost World: Review Roundup

So Sonic Lost World is out, and it’s…. well.. you’ll see. I’m not a fan of review embargoes these days, mainly because given the price of a game, you really need an idea as to what to expect. So for people living in the EU, odds are this won’t be of much use. But here it is anyway, the following is a roundup of all the Sonic Lost World reviews so far. A new chapter in the Sonic community has opened this evening, as the Sonic Lost World community opened its doors about an hour ago on Nintendo’s Miiverse. For those not in the know, Miiverse is a social network, much like Facebook and Twitter, on both the Wii U and the web where Nintendo fans can discuss their favourite games. With the Wii U version of Sonic Lost World, players can share Colour Powers and RC Gadgets on Miiverse with each other. In an interview published today by Nintendo, SEGA’s David Corless says players can even send their Colour Powers to Miiverse and have them returned later with increased power.

Sonic Lost World is out tomorrow in Europe and October 29th in the US on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

Nintendo Confident Sonic Will Boost 2DS Sales

28015SONIC_LOST_WORLD_3DS_top_RGB_v2_5

Nintendo released their new Nintendo 2DS system last week, and the company is very confident that Sonic will help boost sales of the new budget-priced system with his new game Sonic Lost World.

“There is a lot of opportunity to engage with the younger audience on Sonic with the new entry-level Nintendo 2DS console. From launch to post launch we’ll be focused on kids,” said Nintendo product manager Dani Robinson.

“Peak season this year is without doubt a big celebration of Nintendo franchises and Sonic sits high on every platform gamers list of ‘must play’ titles.”

Ads for Sonic Lost World will be played at cinemas alongside Turbo 3D and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2. A TV campaign on Nickelodeon, Disney and Boomerang started October 14th and will run for three weeks.

Thanks to SSMB member LazyPenguinGuy, we have that TV ad for you below.

Sonic Lost World OST Title and Art Revealed

lostworldostwithoutboundariesAs we reported last month, the official soundtrack to Sonic Lost World is set to be released in Japan on 27th November. Well today, thanks to some information from 4Gamer.net we can reveal both the title – “Without Boundaries” – and the cover art of the OST… which as you can see above, is absolutely covered in artwork of the Deadly Six. I guess the designers took the ‘without boundaries’ concept quite literally with regards to their copy and paste tools!

Without Boundaries will contain 93 songs from Sonic Lost World across 3 CD discs, performed by over 70 musicians and produced by Otani Tomoya who previously worked on the soundtracks to Sonic The Hedgehog (2006), Sonic Unleashed, and Sonic Colours. Tracks you can expect to find on the album include the main theme “Wonder World”, the full version of “Windy Hill Zone 1”, and “The Deadly Six Theme”. The OST will feature a range of musical genres, from tango to synth pop to big band jazz.

Are you planning to get Without Boundaries? And even if not, what do you make of the Sonic Lost World soundtrack so far? Let us know in the comments!

NoE Product Page: Even more new M&S 2014 Screenshots!

WiiU_MarioAndSonicattheOlympicWinterGamesSochi2014_06_mediaplayer_largeSonic Claus is coming to town!

The Nintendo of Europe product page has updated with a whole cavalcade of brand new screenshots from the upcoming Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. There’s a healthy mix of old and new stuff, including some rather interesting sights like the Bullet Bill sleigh seen above. There’s also Dream Curling in Green Hill Zone where one player sits on top of the stone while the other pushes it, and a mysterious looking castle with a picture of a key above its entrance. Could we be seeing the return of some sort of story mode, or at least something akin to the Festival mode from the first Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games?

And if that’s not enough, there’s some new artwork for Shadow and Donkey Kong along the sides of the product page too:

We also get a clear look at the PAL box art for the game:

Sonic Lost World demo out now in Japan

28020SONIC_LOST_WORLD_Wii_U_Screenshots_720p_1280x720_v1_4Sonic Lost World is undoubtedly a fresh new take on the modern Sonic gameplay formula we’ve seen in recent years – the new running mechanics, the parkour, the tubular level designs… it’s all stuff we haven’t seen before in a Sonic game, and as such it’s a style you can’t really relate to until you’ve experienced it for yourself. Well, if you live in Japan, you’re in luck, as a demo for both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game have now hit the Nintendo eShop!

The Wii U demo consists solely of Windy Hill Zone 1, while the 3DS demo (which can be played 30 times) contains both the Windy Hill Tutorial and Windy Hill Zone 1. In each case, you can transfer over your best scores to the full retail version when it releases in the next couple of weeks.

We can also confirm now, thanks to SSMB member Smash, that the 3DS version will contain the same cutscenes as the Wii U version (albeit in slightly lower quality) as opposed to the style seen in previous handheld versions like Sonic Generations 3DS. Guess that’s the reason for the game’s slightly larger file size! You can check out one of the cutscenes in the video below… but spoilers ahoy, if you’re wanting to save yourself for release day!

There’s no word so far of the demos hitting America or Europe, but you can be sure we’ll keep you posted.  The US and EU eShops do usually update on a Thursday though, so we might not have long to wait to find out…!

Sega Have Signed A Deal With Former Sonic the Comic Publisher Egmont

segaegmont

Ok so you may need to bare with me here on this one. In the October edition of ToyWorld Magazine, they have a few preview pages of the ‘Brand Licensing Europe’ event. This isn’t a gaming event, it’s a licensing event. Companies attend with the hope of selling licenses to their properties to other companies in order to make products.

And Sega is down to attend with ‘a much larger booth than last year.’ Now this isn’t that unusual since Sega have attended the event for the last few years. Along with Total War and some retro titles, the Sonic license is up for grabs.

However, the more interesting tidbit comes near the end of the article in which they confirm that Sega have signed a licensing deal with publisher Egmont.

Recent licensing deals to have been signed include leading publishers Egmont and Hachette

So who are they? Hachette is a French publisher who are making activity books based on Sonic. And Egmont? Well… long term fans might know them very well. Egmont is the company who purchased Fleetway, the people who made Sonic the Comic here in the UK.

Thats right my friends. Sega have signed a new publishing deal with the people who used to make Sonic the Comic.

Now before we get too excited, they don’t mention specifically that it is for Sonic… however, what does support it being Sonic is that when you look at Egmont’s current lineup of magazines and books, Sonic is the only active franchise Sega have which would fit in with their range of products.

There is also another reason not to get too excited, and thats down to the simple fact that the comic selection in the newsagent has changed since STC ended. Egmont do not make comics anymore, it’s more towards fortnightly actvity books. They do however make one off books.

And to continue the unlikely news, even if it was Sonic the Comic, it’s never going to continue from where it left off, far too long a time has passed.

So whilst it might not be a UK revival of Sonic the Comic, it might suggest a one off book, or could we see pigs fly and get a trade collection of Sonic the Comic published by Egmont?

We’ll be watching this one very closely.

Beware Spoilers! Sonic Lost World’s Street Date Broken!

soniclostworld_guardians2

We’re getting reports that Sonic Lost World for the Wii U has been leaked onto youtube, there are several videos popping up from Spanish accounts which suggest that a retailer may have broken the release date for the game.

One of the accounts doesn’t appear to be affiliated with any major media/press site outside of a Facebook fan page.  As of now, theres nothing to suggest that this is an official embargo or authorised release which suggests that the game has had it’s street date broken.

At this point in time we’re not going to be posting leaked material on the front page of TSS since I imagine a few of you will be a bit annoyed if we did that. However, it is being discussed on our forums, so if you can’t wait a few days, head there. So far the leaked material includes the entire openning cut scene, the first few stages, and several unseen cutscenes and plot elements.

You have been warned… Warrrrned…. …. waaaarrrrrnnneed… *fades into the darkness like the crazy guy from an 80’s slasher movie*

Spoilers await you at this link.
