Earlier today on Twitter, Tails voice actor Collen O’Shaugnessey was showing off her new flocked Tails Funko Pop that she got from Target, when she broke some surprising news in the comments.
As we reported earlier this month, Colleen is one of several voice actors not returning to their previous roles in the upcoming Sonic Netflix show, Sonic Prime. However, as one fan mentioned how much they are going to miss her, Colleen surprised everyone with the following…
So what does this mean for Colleen in the role of Tails? Well, she’s completely out of Sonic Prime. “Still not Canadian, so still not doing prime” she replied to one fan. Whether she’ll be back for the Sonic 2 movie, or if she’s returning to the games, she definitely won’t be leaving Tails and the Sonic franchise behind just yet.
Both Sonic Prime and the Sonic 2 movie will be out next year.

Ever wanted to make Jimmy Buffet classic “Cheeseburger in Paradise” play out of a Sonic thing? Or how about “Defying Gravity” from the Broadway musical hit Wicked? Maybe “Crazy Noisey Bizarre Town,” objectively the best Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure anime opening? Well good news, because now you can play these and more from a new Sonic plush currently only available in Mexico!
Images for this plush have been slowly circulating online, but our source is twitter account @SONICJENNY, who also seems to have the most images. This new Sonic plush and speaker features Bluetooth capability with a range of ten feet, as well as an audio cable input, a USB port, and an SD cart slot, so you’ll be able to play music on it with just about anything. Going by SONICJENNY’s twitter thread, the plush is around a foot long, has speakers in its feet, and sells for around $50. Check out the images below:
As of this writing, we are not aware of any way to obtain this plush online, as it seems to only be available via physical stores in Mexico. Even the manufacturer does not appear to be obvious from the packaging.
Hopefully, this plush will eventually be available elsewhere, so we can all enjoy the 1986 hit “Rock Me Amadeus” by Falco through a cute Sonic plush doll.

So, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie is about a year old now. Like many, I was absolutely surprised to see that it wasn’t a train wreck. I actually rather enjoyed it! With a sequel on the horizon, there are many things I’d like to see, as well as a few things I hope I don’t.

Ian Flynn may no longer be the lead writer of IDW’s Sonic comic, but that doesn’t mean he’s going anywhere! Flynn is set to return for a four issue arc, “Zeti Hunt,” which will see the Chaotix racing to track down the Zeti before their leader, Zavok, can find them. This reveal comes mere months after the completion of Flynn’s “Sonic Bad Guys” mini series.
When asked why he used the Zeti so frequently, Flynn had this to say: “I like mining untapped potential. Plus they’re a lingering plot point from Metal Virus. Need to clean up after myself.”
His return isn’t surprising. Flynn revealed last year that while Evan Stanley was now the lead writer, he still had some stories lined up in the main book.
“Zeti Hunt” is set to begin with Issue #41, after Stanley’s upcoming arc “Test Run,” set to start next week

Masato Nakamura, the man who composed the music for Sonic 1 and 2 on the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive, expressed excitement over the news that one of his compositions will be in the next Sonic movie. A remix of one of his tracks, Emerald Hill Zone, popped up in the recent Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie tease.
In a blog post, Nakamura expressed his feelings over the inclusion:
I am very happy to share the news. One of my compositions, “Emerald Hill Zone” will be used in the movie “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” which will come out in 2022.
When I composed the music for “Sonic the Hedgehog 1&2”.I tried to write a soundtrack for the movie. I imagined the game like a movie.
After 30 years later, my music for the game becomes a part of the movie soundtrack of “Sonic the Hedgehog”.
Literally, it’s a dream comes true.
This isn’t the first time his work has appeared in a movie, as a jazz rendition of Green Hill Zone appeared at the end of the previous Sonic movie. You can read Nakamura’s entire blog post in the source at the bottom.
The Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie is set to begin filming next month, and is scheduled for release on April 8, 2022.

Since Roger Craig Smith announced his departure as the official voice of Sonic the Hedgehog, many fans have turned to Ben Schwartz, Hollywood comedy star, to ask if he would pick up the mantle. His answer? He’s not quite sure yet.

An incredible cleaned and upscaled version of the Sonic CD opening has been released by Sonic Retro members Tanks and Quazza – you can watch the full remaster below on Youtube!
This consciencious upscaling utilises AI, which while the authors acknowledge is controversial to those communities working on archiving genuine articles, is a wonderful way to get around issues with compression that are intrinsic to versions that have appeared on the likes of Mega Collection.
Quazza has also made an interesting discovery in that a few frames in the OP appear out of order – and here’s his comparison:
Was re-watching the Sonic CD OP and I noticed there were a few out-of order-frames, so I corrected them to see what it'd look like. pic.twitter.com/Ezm0Iznrpb

He’s still here!! While the Sonic voice-acting talents have changed many times over the years, one actor has managed to consistently keep his role since 2003: Mike Pollock as Dr. Eggman.

Since June last year, artist and animator Keith Stack has been creating a unique piece of Sonic the Hedgehog fan art each day and posting them via Twitter, in order to count down to the 30th anniversary.
Stack’s pieces range from hillarious parodies to clever commentaries on current events, as well as some wonderful tributes to an incredible cross-section of references to obscure corers of the Sonic series and beyond (we particularly love the very “Bri’ish” take on Sonic the Comic!).

The results for that round were announced in September 2020…except for the Sonic Mania design, which required further review for the team to determine if it could be made or not. This meant an extra four months to wait to find out its fate.
Now the September 2020 results have been announced, and it has also been revealed that the Sonic Mania design has finally been approved! This means that it will go through LEGO’s own designers to see if there are any changes or improvements they want to make to the design before putting it in production, then it will hit store shelves where you can add LEGO Sonic to your collection (especially if you missed out on the LEGO Dimensions level pack way back in 2016).
A huge congratulations to Toastergrl, who I imagine must be chuffed about her idea being made a reality given her history with both Sonic and LEGO. Everyone else might want to leave some money aside to pick this up when this becomes available!
As of now, it is unknown when the finalised set will be revealed and released. But as soon as we get word from LEGO, we’ll be sure to let you know!

I was at E3 2010 when I heard the news that Roger Craig Smith would be taking over as Sonic’s voice actor. As I sat in a corner of the convention center and hurriedly typed out an article about it for Sonic Stadium, I was only feeling one thing: excitement. This, on top of playing Sonic Colors – easily the most promising Sonic game I had experienced in years – really made it feel like SEGA was working hard to revitalize the character.

Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Tails’ voice actress for the past seven years, has confirmed on Twitter that she will not be reprising her role in the upcoming Netflix series, Sonic Prime.
Unlike Roger Craig Smith, this does not yet appear to mark a permanent departure from the role, and it appears that Sonic Prime may instead either have a separate voice cast, or only share some cast members from the games. What makes O’Shaughnessey‘s lack of involvement especially surprising is that she did actually voice Tails in last year’s Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
Mike Pollock, the voice of Eggman, does appear to at least be hinting that he is a part of the production. Though he could also just be trolling us for his own amusement:
My Non-Disclosure Agreements have never been more crucial than at this very moment.
Every copyright law in the universe is going to stop me from sharing what I know.
Turnover in the Sonic voice acting cast is nothing new. Back in 2019, several characters had their voices recast, the most notable of them being Knuckles. The first major voice actor overhaul came in 2005, when every voice actor from the games was replaced with the cast from the recently released 4kids dub of Sonic X. That cast was in turn replaced five years later in 2010.

Now that Sonic Prime is official, it looks like we are finally going to start learning more about the production, including who’s involved. And on that note, we have our first writer: Justin Peniston. Peniston himself confirmed his involvement on Twitter:
Peniston has written for Man of Action shows before, including the Avengers Assemble episode “By the Numbers,” the Gormiti episode “The Sacrifice,” and the Mega Man Fully Charged episode “SWISH.”
Peniston also has a web comic called “Hunter Black,” which you can find here.
We will surely be finding out more about this show’s creative team over the coming days and weeks. Be sure to check back to Sonic Stadium for all the latest!

Sonic Prime, the latest Sonic the Hedgehog animation due for release on Netflix in 2022, will descend from a long dynasty of animations that reach all the way back from 1993’s slapstick Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, through to the modern charm of Sonic Mania Adventures. Each show has cultivated its own personality, and legion of Sonic the Hedgehog fanatics to boot. Similarly, there are now a multitude of genre-crossing Sonic the Hedgehog video game titles, that you’d be hard pushed to not find something for everyone in the Sonic the Hedgehog universe.
