Chikao Ohtsuka, not Motomu Kiyokawa, is credited in M&S Rio 2016 3DS

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSVEXbkytkM

In other credits-related news, apparently Eggman’s previous Japanese voice actor Chikao Ohtsuka IS actually credited in the game. You can see the Japanese voice cast list at 6:51 in the video above. The info we received before was reported by a Japanese player with a copy of the game and forwarded to us in the forums by Tracker. This is the first time we’ve been able to see the credits ourselves, and there’s no sign of Motomu Kiyokawa’s name at all, so I’m at least very curious of how such a claim was made in the first place.

If we have indeed made an error, than I myself would like to deeply apologize for any misreporting of information (I did write the article about the topic in question), and hopefully we’ll get this cleared up soon enough.

Also I should note that I accidentally misspelled Chikao Ohtsuka’s name as Chikao Otsuka (without the “h” in Ohtsuka) in earlier articles. I went back and corrected the spelling in both of the previous articles I wrote about his passing. Please accept my apologies on that as well.

Eggman’s new Japanese voice actor revealed to be Motomu Kiyokawa

Motomu Kiyokawa Eggman

With the release of Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on 3DS in Japan, we now know the new Japanese voice of Eggman to be Motomu Kiyokawa.

Motomu Kiyokama succeeds the late Chikao Ohtsuka, who voiced Eggman from Sonic Adventure 1 all the way to the Sonic Boom games. Chikao Ohtsuka sadly passed away on January 15th, 2015 due to a Ischemic Heart Disorder.

Among Motomu Kiyokama’s Japanese voice acting credits include Thomas in the 90’s Virtua Fighter TV show, as well as the Mahogany Town Gym Leader Pryce (from Gold and Silver) in the Pokémon anime.

The news of the new voice actor came from our own Tracker on our forum, and we even have a clip from a Vine account by a user with a copy of the game which you can view here (make sure to enable sound).

Thanks go to both for the news.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Awakening Found on Ex-Silver VA Resume

Sonic the Hedgehog Awakening Pete Capella

The Sonic Stadium has discovered a mysterious Sonic listing on the resume of former Silver the Hedgehog voice actor Pete Capella. The title is Sonic the Hedgehog: Awakening by SEGA Inc and Capella again did voice work for Silver the Hedgehog in it. Unfortunately, that’s all we know, as there don’t appear to be any other signs of the project online. Capella voiced Silver between 2006 and 2009, so it’s pretty safe to assume this title (whatever it is) is dead and buried.

If we find any more details, we’ll let you know.

Rouge Voice Actor Karen Strassman Lists ‘Sonic II’ on Resume

Karen Strassman Sonic II

UPDATE 2: Thanks to the Wayback Machine we can see there were no Sonic listings on Strassman’s resume on March 14th 2012, but there are in the next capture on September 5th 2012, including ‘Sonic II’.

UPDATE: We have since found an old copy of Strassman’s resume from 22nd January 2012 that still lists ‘Sonic II’. Either work had already started on the new game back then, it’s a cancelled project or this is an error.

Original story: The Sonic Stadium has today spotted a listing for a video game titled ‘Sonic II’ on the resume of current English Rouge the Bat voice actor Karen Strassman’s resume. A Google search shows Strassman’s resume was last updated 20th May 2014 and the game is listed after Sonic Free Riders and Sonic Generations, her last roles as Rouge, so it’s likely this is an upcoming unannounced game.

The title is strange, considering we had Sonic the Hedgehog 2 back in the 90s, but then again, we did have a new Sonic the Hedgehog in 2006. However, with such negative feedback, we don’t think SEGA would create a sequel to that game, especially if it performed as poorly. There’s also the possibility this could be a remake of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, but SEGA kind of did that on mobile devices not too long ago with the help of Taxman and Stealth.

We recently reported about another unknown title with a 2 in its name ‘Sonic Mach 2’, which we spotted on German Orbot voice actor Romanus Fuhrman’s resume. Could they be one and the same? We’ll have to wait and see…

If we get any updates, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Chikao Ohtsuka, JP voice of Eggman, has passed away at 85

EggmanWe are very sad to report that Chikao Ohtsuka, the Japanese voice of Dr. Eggman since Sonic Adventure, first released in Japan in 1998 has passed away at the age of 85 due a Ischemic Heart Disorder.

Chikao Ohtsuka is now the third known voice actor to play as Dr. Eggman to have passed away, after Deem Bristow (English voice from Sonic Adventure to Sonic Advance 3) and Long John Baldry (English voice in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog TV show).

It remains to be seen who will become his successor as Eggman in the Japanese version of the series.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. Rest in Peace Chikao Ohtsuka. :(

Mike Pollock and Roger Craig Smith nominated for Behind The Voice Actor Awards

itsamike

It’s seemingly not often that the vocal talents behind the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise receive any real recognition for their work on the series (and disappointingly so) – but rejoice, there is good news on this front at last! Two of the series’ principal cast members have been nominated for accolades in the latest Behind The Voice Actor Awards, and they’ll no doubt be looking for your votes and support to help them take home the gold.

Roger Craig Smith, known of course amongst the fanbase as the voice of the titular blue blur, has been nominated in the Best Male Vocal Performance in a Video Game in a Supporting Role category for portraying the wise-cracking Wonder Blue in the recent Wii U title from Platinum Games, The Wonderful 101. However, it’s Mike Pollock that should be getting special attention from the Sonic fandom, as he has been nominated in the Best Male Vocal Performance in a Video Game category for his role as none other than Dr. Eggman, specifically in last year’s Sonic Lost World.

The two vocal stars are in esteemed company in their respective categories, nominated alongside the likes of Troy Baker (the voice of Espio), Nolan North, and Alan Young (Scrooge McDuck himself!).

We here at The Sonic Stadium wish to congratulate both Mike and Roger on their nominations, and if you wish to cast your votes for them you can do so at the awards page (you’ll need to register for an account first though). The winners are scheduled to be announced next Wednesday (19th March), so you don’t have long to get your votes in!

Sonic Generations 3DS & PC Listings Removed, Cream the Rabbit Teased

SEGA has now removed the Nintendo 3DS and PC versions of Sonic Generations that were listed in SEGA Sammy’s earnings report May 17th. NeoGAF member Shiggy, who admins claim is very reliable, says retail sources have also been informed about this by SEGA. Now this could mean that the listings were an error or it could be SEGA patching a leak. Hopefully SEGA will speak out on this soon.

In others news, Cream the Rabbit’s Japanese voice actress Sayaka Aoki has revealed on her blog that she has been recording some voice work for Sonic Generations and posted the above image.

Here’s a Google translation of the blog entry:

We have been recording a new Sonic game!

Cute as ever grinded in Cream ♪

Chocolate ice cream with Itadai until after recording,
Kanamaru’s behind me is (Sonic’s), and
Be able to talk to you a long time,
Recording was fun!

All means for your interest ~ ♪

From this we can only assume that Cream the Rabbit will be one of Sonic’s friends Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka said would be appearing in Sonic Generations’ story.
