Sonic Netflix show officially titled ‘Sonic Prime’, due in 2022

After initially being leaked via a quickly deleted tweet by Netflix, today the company has officially announced the upcoming TV show as Sonic Prime, and will be due in 2022 on the streaming service.

The show will be produced by WildBrain in Vancouver, Canada, and Man of Action. The pair most recently worked together to created the Mega Man Fully Charged TV show. The studio published a press release on its website, which includes a few more details (as well as quotes from corporate heads – our favourite kind of quotes!) as below:

  • The 24-episode animated adventure for kids, families, and long-time fans draws upon the keystones of the brand and features the “Blue Blur” of video game fame in a high-octane adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in his gloved hands. Sonic’s adventure is about more than a race to save the universe, it’s a journey of self-discovery and redemption.
  • The series will be animated at WildBrain’s Vancouver studio, and SEGA and WildBrain will jointly participate across production, distribution and licensing. Man of Action Entertainment, creators of Ben 10 and the characters and team in the Academy Award-winning feature Big Hero 6, have been brought on as showrunners and Executive Producers for the series.

  1. Still concerned of Man of Action’s involvement in this, but multiverse premise does sound interesting.

  2. Since this is Wildbrain, formerly Studio DHX, my fingers are crossed for some of the writers and VAs from My Little Pony to partake(Oh and Mike Pollock to return as Eggman just so he can work with these actors)

  3. Im so excited for this, also I like this quote “it’s a journey of self-discovery and redemption” it really tells you they want to develop the characters and story and I couldn’t be happier about it!

  4. Still wary of the show but title sounds good, and multiverse huh? Calling it now, classic Sonic will be seen or involved somehow lol.

Also, kinda interesting timing to officially announce this not too long after Roger left, just saying.

  5. Another alternative universe, as usual!!…
I don’t care as long as the original universe remains in the forthcoming videogames!!…
Please, no SONIC PRIME videogames, a TV series is enough!!…
Anyway, it will die like all other TV series and the videogame series will keep on expanding, and that’s what really matters to me!!…

    1. Why are you so negative this could be what all us true sonic fan have all been whating for I know sonic as had some ruf patches but just have hope it turns out good

  6. The title “Sonic Prime” does bring up the whole multiverse concept, to me at least.
Like in Ben 10, where there were other universes, and thus there was more than one Ben, the main Ben was known as Ben Prime.

  7. As a long time fan of sonic I can’t wait to see what they do this time I read the whole discretion and think it could be a intisting show if they pull it off right and I hope it will turn out good because these last few years haven’t been the best to the blue blur so I hope this will spark new interest in the fan base and bring in new fans to show them what sonic is all about.
