WWE Stable The New Day paid tribute to Sonic the Hedgehog this Sunday at Summerslam, debuting their new ring gear. Kofi Kingston appeared in a Sonic-themed outfit, adorned with trademark rings on his boots, while Xavier Woods and Big E appeared in Tails and Knuckles-themed outfits respectively, emblazoned with Tails’s tails and Knuckles’s knuckles!
The New Day went on to win their match against the Bludgeon Brothers, although the Tag Team Title they were after was retained by the latter due to disqualification.
Great taste chaps!

There is no stopping Funko, POPs, T-Shirts, Key-Chains, more POPs, Funko is on a quest to fill your room with all manner of quirky Sonic items.
And that seems to be a continuing trend with last nights announcement dragging everyone back to the 90’s kicking and screaming.
Funko are to launch a line of PEZ dispensers based on some of their more popular licenses and you guessed it, Sonic is in the line.
If you don’t know what a PEZ dispenser is, they’re small plastic toys which dispense a small sweet that according to your mum will ruin your dinner if you eat too many.
No release details were given just yet, but watch this space as I can imagine here at the house of TSS we’ll be finding empty dispensers around the office for months.

The Totaku figure range came seemingly out of nowhere, what started with characters associated with Playstation games has slowly grown to include more third party franchises with other exclusive characters for specific systems promised in the future.
Shortly after their reveal, Think Geek began teasing that a Sonic figure would be joining the line, before it was eventually revealed at Toy Fair 2018 and had an estimated release date of around the middle of the year.
But for fans who pre-ordered the figure, there has been a long wait and silence with regards to its release. The figure has undergone numerous delays and silence with regards to its status.
But it now looks like things are happening. Twitter user Juvi Luna noticed that the official Totaku website has now updated to say that the figure will now release in September and on closer inspection it also appears to have been re-designed slightly.
After many months of delays, and no word from stores or totaku themselves, the Sonic totaku finally has a tentative release month! It also should be noted that the quality of the figure has been upgraded, along with the skin and brown of the base being lightened. @sonicstadiumpic.twitter.com/EG5ktIkygy

As filming for the Sonic movie is starting up as we speak, more information is trickling out through unlikely sources.
A Twitter user has received a proposed notice of filming for their area between August 7th and August 10th. This letter potentially reveals more than just technical information about scheduling though; the final title may have been revealed.
In the letterhead and within the actual body of text, the film is referred to the title “SONIC”. This is different to the preliminary title (“Sonic the Hedgehog”), and is more in line with Hollywood’s tendency for snappy titles.
In addition, the letterhead possibly has the final logo for the film. It looks mostly the same as the Sonic we’ve seen before, but Sonic’s head emblem is now a shape within the curl of the “C”. If they’re not going to use “the hedgehog”, it helps to have some way to show it’s not a film about the restaurant chain!
The letter doesn’t reveal anything about what will happen within the film, which is good for those wanting to avoid any possible spoilers. Unless you consider a car pulling up to a house and conversation happening indoors news.
An official reveal of these hasn’t been done as of yet. With production beginning now, it may be some time before Paramount formally reveal it. In any case, we’ll be sure to cover it when Paramount choose to do so.

Have you ever made a grilled cheese sandwich and thought “this would be even better with Sonic’s face on it!”? Well, Sega may just have the product for you!
On shop.sega.com, you can purchase a Sonic toaster for only $34.99! There’s a bit of a catch though. It needs 1,000 orders in order for the toaster to become an actual product and get produced. At the moment, it’s only sold 376, so it’ll need to sell over 600 more to get made.
SEGA has 29 more days to reach that goal, so hopefully we will all be eating Sonic branded toast soon! The toaster has until the end of July 12 to reach its funding goal.

On Wednesday June 13, get ready to party with Belly and Crush 40 as Sega teams up with Puma to give you a rockin’ launch party for their new Sonic-themed shoes at Nice Kicks in L.A. This includes a meet and greet with Sonic Team’s own Takashi Iizuka. While the shoes go on sale on the 12th, the party is on the 13th. While no ticket info is given, it appears to be a party open to the public, so you may want to come in early before it gets too crowded.
Alex and I are bound to be there, so expect coverage right here at the Sonic Stadium. In the meantime, go to the offical launch announcement page for more information.

Famitsu have revealed new details regarding Sumo Digital’s upcoming Sonic racing title. Posted to their website, a very low quality teaser image of an upcoming article about the game clearly shows both Rouge and Omega as playable characters.
Also confirmed are three wisp types, Cube, Bomb and Eagle. The image also appears to show a few new ingame screenshots, but good luck getting any detail from this quality of the preview.
The issue is due for release later this month, we’ll bring you more details as they come in.

At the New York Toy Fair, Diamond Select Toys have revealed their new line of Sonic toys, during an interview with Pixel Dan, when talking about the Sonic toys, the toy fair rep said the following.
“There are some minifigures […] some come with diorama pieces you’re going to build a race track from the game…“
Whilst it’s possible that this is in relation to ASRT or a past racer game, it seems very unlikely that this is for a previous racing title since they’re several years old now. The fact it mentions racetrack suggests that it is in vehicles so it’s unlikely that these would be Sonic R related products.

Sonic Battle Racers has two backing options at the time of writing.
Pledge $10 (or more): No Reward.
Pledge $100: The Base game + Kickstarter Exclusive Super Sonic playable Piece + Kickstarter Exclusive physical badnik pieces + any stretch goals.
The game itself is essentially a race, with players attempting to win against several other opponents whilst dodging badniks and other traps. Included in the game are several badnik pieces which will not be available at retail to accompany Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Eggman.
There are also promises of expansion packs to come at a later date but these are not included in the Kickstarter.
Blaze, Sticks and Shadow playable pieces are stretch goals, however only Blaze and Sticks are included in the $100 pledge, you have to purchase Shadow separately.
So what do you think? Going to back this game? Let us know in the comments.

Over in Nuremberg, the annual Spielwarenmesse toy fair is underway and as usual the toy makers are showing off their new toys for release later this year. Well, one such toy maker has just added fuel to a fire which had been virtually extinguished earlier this week.
Zappies who were responsible for a number of All Stars Racing Transformed toys way back when the game was first release were at the convention and have allegedly told Spindash.de that there is a third Sonic racing game on the way!
Whilst there is no outright proof of such a game, what strongly supports it is that their booth is full of the original ASRT toys which went out of production years ago. They claim these are here as placeholders in a bid to give some retailers an idea as to what the new game and toys will look like.
This comes less than a week after a document from Sumo Digital was leaked which suggested a new ‘Kart Racer’ from a ‘Global IP’ was in development, and just days after Aaron Webber claimed that it wasn’t happening.
Keep checking TSS, hopefully we can get all this resolved very soon!

Sonic has his first game of 2018 and it’s not what you’d expect.
Introducing Sega Slots. A new game for iOS and Android. It’s a gambling simulator slot machine game. One of many kinds you can find on mobile devices. In Sega Slots you start with Sonic Slots only and level your way up to Shinobi, Golden Axe, Super Monkey Ball and more. The top level game at 101 is Classic Sonic in Casino Night Zone (makes sense). It includes mini games as well as the regular slot machine games.
Sega Slots is available on iTunes and Google Play for your Apple and Android devices now if you feel like taking a gamble and trying it out.

In what could be argued as being the first big reveal for 2018. Tomy has updated their re-seller catalogue for 2018 which includes a lot of brand new Sonic toys covering action figures and plushies.
With regards to action figures we have a new a classic Amy pack which comes with a metal art plate and a Classic and Modern Eggman pack which also comes with an art plate.
But more interestingly, Zavok is finally getting a figure and Infinite is also getting the action figure treatment along with some Chao accessories.
More modern based figures, but the most interesting thing on show here is the comic book packs, you see… that doesn’t appear to be an Archie or IDW comic book, but something completely new!
Terror, excitement, confusion… all in one page. On the one hand with have the awesome looking classic Sonic figure, and the utterly stunning looking Super Sonic plush…. Only to find Amy and Vector who appears to be hitch hiking.
More plush toys planned, this time we see a new Classic Eggman and an Evil Chao figure join the line! Also is it just me or is Knuckles giving Shadow a bit of a look there?

Earlier this year, GNFToyz, a South Korean company released a number of really awesome Sonic figures and have since teased an expansion of the range… Just one tiny problem; these were a retail exclusive to a South Korean store and unless you lived in South Korea it was exceptionally difficult to get your hands on these. Well… that’s not true, you could get them if were willing to pay 3-4 times the RRP on ebay, no really they were being re-sold for that amount!
Well it looks like they may have found a western distributor. A photo taken by Toyark of the First4Figures New York Comic Con booth appears to confirm that F4F are going to be distributing them worldwide!
Based on the photos taken, it looks as if F4F have begun a partnership with GNFT and series 1 of the figures will be available ‘soon’.
Hopefully we won’t have to pay 3-4 times the RRP to get our paws on this one!
Keep Checking TSS for more updates as we get them.

Hidden away on the official San Diego Comic Con website, there is some really exciting news if you are lucky enough to be in San Diego during comic con.
Away from the actual event, in the Omni San Diego Hotel Grand Ballroom you can find Sega hosting a Sonic the Hedgehog Augmented Reality Experience. There will also be a concert with Shota Nakama held on the Tuesday evening but no details on that were given.
The event opens to developers and the public as a preview on the 19th of July, but it fully opens up on Thursday 20th and runs until Sunday 23rd.

Ever since it’s announcement, details regarding the Sonic movie have been incredibly thin, despite being a live action-CG hybrid, we don’t even have a cast list for it, and it only very recently announced that Deadpools director would be directing the film.
So when rumours and mumbles of a 2018 release were being talked about, this seemed a bit unlikely given the lack of information released so far about the film.
Well, Sega have now said that the movie will now be coming in 2019 which is a far more realistic release year.
In an interview with Games Industry, they dropped the line that the film would now be released in 2019.
“Nostalgia is actually very much in vogue, which is one the reasons we’ve been chasing it down,” he says. “Everything Nintendo has been doing has been driving big waves in nostalgia, they’ve done some amazing things and they had a lot of success with the classic NES. There is a film and documentary coming out about retro gaming called Console Wars. We also have a Sonic movie coming in 2019.”
So there we have it, time to book your tickets to the far off future of 2019.

Last year GlamGlow released a Sonic themed mud/face pack and it was a surprise hit, selling very well in both the US and the UK.
Well it seems that the company was pleased with the performance of the product as it looks like they’re going to expand the range. Two posts made on Instagram have revealed that the Sonic Face Mask is to return and strongly hint at a Tails & Knuckles themed pack too!
Full details are to be released tomorrow, we’ll keep you upto date with what they show as and when we get it.

There was however one interesting line in the magazine, that being that the next 18 months are to be very important and big for Sonic.

The Sonic Stadium has discovered a proof of concept for a Sonic the Hedgehog virtual reality project. The concept was developed for SEGA by Big Sky VR a Los Angeles based studio who worked on Coachella Explorer the first-ever mobile 3D simulation of the Coachella Music Festival. Big Sky describes their Sonic concept as a puzzle game in which our blue hero takes the user on an adventure through typical Sonic environments, though they fail to elaborate on any puzzle elements.
Big Sky developed a proof of concept for Sega to help them bring their icon Sonic the Hedgehog to the world of Virtual Reality. In this puzzle game experience Sonic escorts our user along an adventure that takes him across land sea under volcanos and above the clouds thats true to Sonic form.
Big Sky’s Greg Edwards has shared a video of the demo on his Vimeo account two months ago indicating that this is a very recent project. Whether anything more will come of this further down the line is unclear, but it’s interesting to know SEGA is looking at bringing Sonic to the world of virtual reality.

Before Sonic was a franchise, before he was a household name, before he even had a single game, he was just an idea and a pitch. It’s quite common knowledge that Yuji Naka and Naoto Oshima along with a few others had to pitch the idea of Sonic to Sega higher ups in order to get the green light for development.
Part of this pitch included ‘a small Sonic plush toy’, this has been a matter of record in a number of different interviews and articles, such as the History of Sonic book which came out a few years ago.
Yet, to this day, nobody has ever seen this plush… well… that might have changed.
Naoto Ohshima, the man who designed Sonic has lately been posting a lot of very interesting pieces of artwork and design on his Facebook page, including a rather curious plush.
Whilst he’s not confirmed it is the original plush from the pitch, there’s a number of clues to suggest it might be, first of all, there are no tags of any kind, it’s a homemade item, secondly, it stands upright on it’s own accord, there are only a handful of Sonic plushies out there which do this and none of them look anything like this.
Another big clue is that it is VERY high quality, this was not made for mass market, it was either made to order or was an extremely limited run.
Speaking to a few Sonic Merch collectors, none of them have been able to identify it which would either put this as a custom job… or… the legendary plush. If it is the plush from the pitch, it would make this product 001, the very first piece of Sonic merch ever to have existed and a one of a kind.
The watch on his wrist is a different product which was released a few years after Sonic 1. If we get anymore details as to the origins of this mystery product, we’ll let you know.

Well, London Toy Fair ended a few days ago and… yeah there wasn’t much in terms of Sonic there, however London has never been that great in terms of Sonic content, New York and Germany are the ones to watch out for.
But saying that, Tomy did have a booth and we can confirm that they showed off some new Sonic toys!

This is the Sonic game classic Sonic fans have dreamed of for at least a decade.
Well, probably. As with any game, there are a lot of boxes Sonic Mania needs to tick to ensure it lives up to its potential. What will the quality of the level design be? How much content will there be and how much will it cost? Are there any unknown game play elements that could mar the experience?
Normally, I save these sorts of cautionary warnings for the end of the preview, but I think it’s necessary to put them front and center because, at least on the surface, this has all the right elements to excite every old-school Sonic fan on the planet.
First of all, the physics: one of the first things I did in this game was attempt the wall-stand that Sonic 4 became infamous for. I am happy to say that not only is gravity-defying traversal nearly impossible (by the standards of a classic Sonic game anyway) but many of the new areas in the demo require momentum to traverse. Without it, you aren’t going anywhere. There are no spring pads, few auto-running segments, and loads of opportunities to build momentum on hills and half-pipes to reach higher areas, or mess up and fall into lower sections. That said, the physics still aren’t quite what you may be used to from the classic Genesis titles. They feel like they fit somewhere between the Genesis titles and the slightly looser physics of Sonic CD. Of course, this shouldn’t be surprising: the stages take a lot of inspiration from Sonic CD.
The game had two levels on display: the remade Act 1 of Green Hill Zone and the all-new Studiopolis Zone.
At first glance, Green Hill hasn’t changed much. If you just run through it as you normally do, chances are it may feel just like the original stage with some slight tweaks. But that’s because you didn’t look hard enough: when I played the level, I decided to explore, and I eventually made my way to a completely new area that runs directly over much of the level.
The design for these new areas feels reminiscent of Sonic CD stages, with loads of pipes, mobius strips, and areas that let you really move in a way old-school Green Hill never quite allowed. There are also hidden secrets, including a bubble shield and a fire shield. The level ended with a boss that was simultaneously reminiscent and new, putting a new spin on Eggman’s ball-swinging egg mobile from the original game. In this case, the two balls took turns swinging from one another, with one vulnerable to attack and the other dangerous to the touch. If this boss is any indication, we will probably see a return of the mid-level sub bosses from Sonic 3 & Knuckles in Sonic Mania.
The Sonic CD inspirations are even more evident in the second level on display: Studiopolis. The stage is sprawling, loaded with different routes and secrets to find, as well as plenty of hills, ramps and other types of terrain that make use of the game’s physics. One key difference between this stage the levels in Sonic CD seems to be level cohesion: I’ve always felt most of the the level design in Sonic CD was a bit of a mess. Here, everything seems to be placed a little more intelligently, making the level itself a little easier to navigate and memorize. Of course, I’m sure Sonic CD fans will completely disagree with me on that point, but they should love this level nonetheless.
Both levels rewarded exploration in a way no other modern Sonic game does. Since I knew my time with the game would be limited, I decided to take my time and explore both stages, and there was a lot to see. Backtracking and trying to reach higher areas that I had missed on my initial pass was how I discovered that one entirely new portion of Green Hill. Backtracking in Studiopolis revealed a spring that sent me careening towards the right of the screen, and further exploration revealed an absolutely massive stage that I simply didn’t have time to fully explore during the demo. This is the sort of level design I’ve been wanting from my sidescrolling Sonic titles for awhile: large levels that reward people who do more than press right and take the easiest and most straightforward paths. Exploration not only revealed hidden paths, but also power ups (including the aforementioned shields) and the outlines of giant rings that weren’t accessible in the demo. While nothing about them has been confirmed, it seems pretty likely that they lead to Mania’s special stages.
While there wasn’t much genuinely new game play mechanics to find in the game, there was one thing that could drastically change how people play the game: the drop dash. Anyone who’s seen the trailer should have an idea of what the drop dash is, but let me elaborate on it: you activate the drop dash by holding the jump button as Sonic jumps through the air. The higher up you are, the more you can charge the drop dash, and when you hit the ground you immediately spin dash in whatever direction your trying to go. It’s a fun move that looks like it should be useful for hardcore players, since it isn’t exactly the easiest move to use.
I tried using it as often as I could throughout one of my playthroughs, and discovered it was only really useful in areas when Sonic could both gain a lot of air, and had a place to spin dash through once he landed. This neat little move is a little more interesting than other attempts at giving 2D Sonic an extra move, such as the insta-shield and homing attack that have been utilized in previous titles. The move won’t always be available though: when Sonic has an elemental shield, it is replaced by that shield’s special move.
Graphically, the game seems to answer the question, “what would a real Sonic game on the 32X have looked like?” Studiopolis is a gorgeous level, full of color and neat details, including a cute little 1930s inspired dancing Eggman animation. It’s loaded with different shades of blues and purples, with some oranges and yellows thrown in for good measure. It actually kind of reminds me of this old Sonic folder I had when I was a kid. Overall, the level just oozes with 90s nostalgia.
The sprite animations themselves have more inbetween frames then you’d normally see in a Genesis title. The sprites also sometimes have interesting little touches, like the orbinaut badnik becoming more desperate as you destroy the little orbiting balls that protect it from your attacks. Studiopolis updates the graphics just enough to make them look great by today’s standards, without completely losing that Genesis feel. They don’t completely make the jump to the more advanced 2D graphics you might find on systems like the Saturn, but the Genesis certainly wouldn’t have been able to handle them.
The Studiopolis theme was also some really great stuff. It’s fusion of jazz and midi sounds like something ripped from the best of 90s SEGA soundtracks. It’s definitely got a Sonic Team flavoring to it, and would fit in fine with not just any Sonic game, but even NiGHTS into Dreams stuff. If the rest of this game’s soundtrack is as fine as this, it ought to find its way into any Sonic fan’s playlist.
This has the potential to be Sonic’s best game since the Genesis era. Better than already great stuff like Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations. Better than the Sonic Boom mediocrity we’ve gotten over the last few years. Better than SEGA’s 2D Sonic console game, Sonic 4. I just hope the rest of the game lives up to what I played at that party.

I just bumped into this and had to share it. Jason Griffith, who most know voiced Sonic in the Sonic X anime in 2003 until Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing in 2010, actually did indeed still voice Sonic for at least one last time in a half hour Fall 2010 Preview of Toonzai on CW4Kids. You can see the full video below. Continue reading Jason Griffith gave one last performance as Sonic in a Toonzai Fall 2010 Preview

You might remember how we first brought you news of a possible collaboration with Sonic and Kidrobot, well it’s now official! Here are the details.
The range of figures will launch in winter 2016, they include Blind Box Mini Figure Series, Blind Box Keychain Series, and a ‘medium figure.’ As for what they will be, the only clue right now is that they will feature Sonic ‘captured in various game moments throughout his career.’

Mark Warburton, who happens to be a producer at Travellers Tales on Lego Dimensions has made a series of tweets with regards to Sonic which both casts light onto what Sonic can actually do in the game as well as teases a possible trailer or reveal for Sonic in Lego Dimensions too.
Spending the day running through the @LEGODimensions Dr. Who level as Sonic so that I can spin attack Daleks…its a tough ole job i have.
The first tweet specifically mentions that in the Doctor Who stages, Sonic will spin attack Daleks, if you don’t know what a Dalek is, it’s basically a badnik with a mutant alien inside… who wants to destroy you.
Then in a response to another twitter user who asked about the possibility of a teaser for Sonic’s 25th, Warburton didn’t exactly say it wouldn’t happen.
So there we go, Sonic attacking Daleks and a possible teaser coming tomorrow. Now if you’ll excuse me I’ll be sat over here deciding which of these Sonic Screwdriver related puns will go into tomorrows article if the above happens.
