Classic Sonic Games Getting Delisted Across Xbox, PlayStation and Steam Next Month

If you wanted any of those older digital releases of Sonic 1, 2, 3 & Knckles, and CD, you might want to get them soon, because most of them are getting delisted on May 20. This news comes via a press release from SEGA, which confirmed the delisting of these games across all platforms outside of the Nintendo Switch and mobile.

Specifically, every individually released version of Sonic 1, 2, 3, Sonic & Knuckles, and Sonic CD are all getting delisted from Steam, Xbox, Playstation 3 and Playstation Now. The SEGA AGES releases of Sonic 1 and 2 on Switch will remain, as will Sonic 1, 2 and CD on iOS and Android. The 3DS releases have yet to be specified, but with that digital service ending next year they likely aren’t bothering with it.

Sonic Channel released a somewhat more detailed list of what was being delisted, though while they say Sonic CD will be among the games getting delisted, it’s not on the list. This is likely just an oversight. You can find that here.

TSS Review: LEGO Dimensions Sonic the Hedgehog Level Pack

LEGO and Sonic the Hedgehog. Now there’s two things we never thought we’d see officially put together in the same product. Sure, maybe it’s not as earth-shattering a crossover as the Mario & Sonic series (I mean, who’d have ever seen that one coming, and at the Olympic Games no less?!), but it’s just as mind-bogglingly unthinkable. But, then again, almost anything is possible in the crazy world of TT Games’ LEGO Dimensions. You know what’s even crazier though? This bonkers mash-up of blue blurs and bricks is arguably the best thing to come out of Sonic’s 25th anniversary celebrations this year.

UPDATE: Sonic 4 Episode 3 Was Planned, Then Cancelled

According to a user on the official SEGA forums, former Sonic 4 Brand Manager Ken Balough confirmed that Sonic 4 had a third episode planned, but it was cancelled. He has in the past hinted that a third episode was planned but this is the first time anyone associated with the project has come out and said that the series was to be a trilogy and that the third part was scrapped. New ASRT Patch Goes Live Monday

The updates feature lots of tucks and tweaks, should address many of the issues you’ve reported to us and also pull in improvements we’ve been doing on PC. Don’t expect any extra tracks or characters though, just before you ask…!

Those are the words of Executive Producer Steve Lycett on the Sega forums yesterday. The PS3 & Xbox 360 versions of the game are to get a second patch next Monday which will follow a little later on the Wii-U.

No patch notes have been released just yet. However from the language used, (“tucks and tweaks”) it sounds like as well as a bug fix, the patch might also alter some of the balancing or even difficulty of the game.

Snow Way! Sonic 4: Episode 2 50% Off!

If you’ve been holding out for when this game would receive a discount, today’s the day! Well… for PS3 owners living in the EU that is. As part of Sony’s Festive Sale, Sonic 4: Episode 2 is now half price and members of Playstation Plus can receive an additional discount too.

From now until January 9th 2013 you can get the game for £4.99 or if you’re a PS+ user £4.49. Considering the original price on this was £9.99 that’s quite a decent saving. Remember this is only for people living in the EU right now, you will probably have to wait until next week to find out if the same deal is offered to US residents.

Thanks to Carbo for the tip.

TSS Review: Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed

You know… Every time I hear the words “kart racer” I always have a negative thought. Am I wrong to do that? Let’s think about it for a moment. How many times have we seen a random character or series suddenly decide that they can make a video game? The result is usually a random party game or… “kart racer”. Crazy Frog, DreamWorks Super Starz Kartz, Wacky Races, Beanotown Racing and even Disney have made either a very poor or incredibly average “kart racer”. Yes, there are some very good kart racing games out there, but considering how the bad vastly outnumbers the good, I can’t be alone with instantly coming to a negative disposition when I hear “there is a new karting game starring *insert character/series here*”. Sonic Classic Collection Coming to PSN Next Week?

Whilst everybody has been getting excited over ASRT and Sonic the Fighters, it seems something has slipped under the radar. Website PSNStores.com who list sneak peeks of what will be on the Playstation Store in the coming weeks are claiming that a ‘Sonic Classic Collection’ will be coming to the PSN next week.

This is… rather strange. Mainly because whilst Xbox 360 owners have been able to enjoy more or less all the main classic Sonic titles via the Xbox Live Arcade, PS3 owners have only had Sonic 1 & 2 since 2011 with no sign of Sonic 3 or Sonic & Knuckles.

Xbox.com Releases Two New Sonic Adventure 2 HD Screenshots

Sonic Adventure 2 has returned to Xbox.com after a long time away following its initial leak on the website back in June. Ten screenshots were posted back then with one of them of Sonic and Shadow racing showing a PlayStation circle button, but this time that screenshot has humorously been replaced with one of both characters jumping so as to not show the brakes option. The Chao Karate screenshot has also been replaced with one of Sonic in the Chao Kindergarten. You can view both new screenshots in our gallery below.

ASR Transformed: Xbox Avatars & DLC Confirmed, New Screenshots & PS Vita Info

Some new screenshots and details have been released online regarding SEGA’s upcoming racer Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. The US official PlayStation website has put up product pages for both the PS3 and PS Vita versions of the game which reveal that the Sony handheld version will support motion steering and will make use of the touchscreen for firing weapons and activating your character’s All-Star move. DLC support is also revealed. The PS3 page confirms the game will not feature 3D TV support.

The official Xbox website has also put out a product page for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, and within are 12 screenshots and the confirmation that Xbox Live Avatars are returning. DLC support is also revealed for the Xbox 360, and the overview states that the game will support up to ten players online, while the online features section oddly lists 8 players. The PlayStation pages also state 8 players for both PS3 and PS Vita. We’ll try to get this cleared up with Sumo Digital and update.

Sonic 4: Episode I Sold Best on PS3 on Consoles

SEGA Digital Brand Manager Ken Balough has revealed at the SEGA Forums that Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I sold best on the PlayStation 3 platform on consoles. Xbox 360 came second and Wii last. The news is quite a twist when compared to retail Sonic titles, where Nintendo’s consoles usually come out on top. No information was given as to where PC and mobile platforms ranked.

Will the same happen for Episode II? Time will tell. Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II is out now on Steam in the UK, and will be released later today in other territories. The PSN version will also be released later today in the US, then Europe tomorrow. The Xbox Live Arcade version is due out worldwide tomorrow.

[UPDATE]Retailer eStarland.com Lists Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing 2 For PS3, Xbox 360 & Wii

UPDATE 08/03/12 23:59 GMT: Well, that didn’t take long. The product pages on eStarland have now been wiped clean and all versions of the game no longer show up in searches.

Original article:
Listings for the Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing sequel we first brought you word about in January have appeared at US retailer eStarland.com. The site lists Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing 2 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii platforms and says the game will be released November 30th 2012, which is likely a placeholder date, because games usually release in the US on a Tuesday, not a Friday. There are no signs of Wii U, 3DS and PS Vita versions, but at this early stage anything could change.

A placeholder box art is also on display on the site featuring the first game’s logo with a number 2 underneath it. The product description simply reads “Sonic and friends go back to the track in the sequel to their 2010 kart racing outing.”

Could these listings mean an official announcement is soon on the way? We’ll keep you posted.

Sonic Generations Retains 25th Position in the UK Chart

Despite a full week of sales for the Nintendo 3DS and retail PC versions, Sonic Generations has failed to move higher in the UK Top 40 All Formats chart this week and instead retained its position at no.25. In the Top 30 PS3 chart, the game held on to its place at no.13, while in the Top 40 Xbox 360 chart it stepped up two places from no.21 to no.19. In the Top 10 Nintendo 3DS chart and Top 20 PC chart, it’s not good news, as Sonic Generations has fell from no.4 to no.8 in the former and dropped off the latter completely.

However, it’s good news for Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, with the Wii game having moved up two places from no.13 to no.11 in the Top 40 All Formats chart and retaining its no.2 spot in the Top 30 Wii chart.

Sonic Generations Already Seeing Huge Discounts in the UK

The game was only released on the 4th of this month, but already Sonic’s 20th Anniversary title Sonic Generations has been deeply discounted at various retailers. Sonic Generations Drops in the UK Chart

Despite a full week of sales last week, Sonic Generations has dropped in the UK charts. In the top 40 All Formats chart, the game dropped eleven places from No.10 to No.21. In the Individual Units chart, the Xbox 360 version has plummeted from No.14 to No.32 and the PS3 version dropped from No.21 to No.37. In the top 40 Xbox 360 chart, Sonic Generations fell six places from No.6 to No.12, while in the top 30 PS3 chart, the game dropped just three places from No.6 to No.9.

With big titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception released last week and more heavy hitters to come, Sonic Generations may find itself struggle to grab sales. We’ll update you next Monday with this week’s sales chart results for Sonic Generations and Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, which is released this Friday on Wii in Europe.
