Spring is almost here, and with the promise of a new season comes some brand new Sonic the Hedgehog content to enjoy! As we reported earlier this week, Sonic Frontiers is set to get its first free content update for 2023 in just over a day’s time. So we thought we’d do something to celebrate the occasion!
That’s right, we’re introducing some new Limited Edition Achievements for the Sonic Community! These will all be Sonic Frontiers-themed, and available to all users who play the new DLC pack (and contribute to the Sonic Stadium forums) until the end of the month.
Each Badge will relate to one of the new modes or features found in the upcoming Sights, Sounds and Speed DLC pack. To earn these Badges, you will need to play or complete the relevant mode, take a screenshot of your handiwork and post it on the Sonic Stadium Forums to share with the rest of the Sonic Community.
Speaking of Achievements, we know that since we launched the new system in mid-2022 there have been a lot of questions about how it works, what kind of badges you can earn, and a lot more besides. So we’ve taken the time to create a Site Guide on the Sonic Database that fully introduces the Achievements System and all you need to know about it. You can find it here:
That Database record will also contain links to other records that list special Badges you can earn, as well as legacy SSMB Awards from yesteryear (if you’re curious)! If there are any more questions about how the system works, please feel free to let me know and I can update the Suite Guide to account for any missing information.
Events Calendar
You might have noticed on the SSMB that the Calendar section has had a bit of a facelift. That’s part of a recent site software update that changes the focus of the section from less of a ‘calendar’ and more of an ‘Events’ portal. The front page of the Events section will now show an at-a-glance view of all upcoming occasions, but if you like you can switch it back to a traditional Calendar view too.
We also took the opportunity to tart up the Events widget, found in the sidebar on the Forum homepage and elsewhere. You can better see what’s coming up in the month ahead, and we’re always adding new Events so that it doesn’t get stale and empty. We encourage the Community to also create Events to help populate the Calendar with us – you get Achievement Points and Badges for contributing, and you also get a warm glow of satisfaction for helping your fellow Sonic fan know when the next major game anniversary will be. Give it a try!
Personal Discussion is No More
A quick update on the Personal Discussion forum – in our last update post we announced that this forum would be closed down at a nearby date. Due to certain events that have taken place this week, the moderation team has decided that the closure of the forum is long overdue. So if you no longer see the forum where you would expect it to be… that will be why. It’s kaput.
Why has it been shut down? To recap, the site staff spent some time re-assessing the kind of discussion and content that we would like to see and encourage on the Sonic Stadium and its forums, and we found that topics of a deeply personal nature – many of which veered very closely to sensitive and borderline subjects – are themes that we no longer have an appetite for hosting on our community. We want to be a positive, encouraging space for people to come together and talk about their favourite things, but at the same time we can not be a destination where community members end up therapising one another.
Sad topics (a significant person’s passing, or a newsworthy tragedy, for example) will of course continue to be allowed in the General Discussion forum. But topics of a deeply personal nature, of the kind previously fit for the Personal Discussion forum, will no longer be permitted. For various reasons, we also cannot move certain topics from the Personal Discussion forum into a new ‘allowed’ destination. Thanks for your understanding on this.
Coming Soon
I have to say, I’m enjoying finding the time to post site updates on here once again. This is starting to become a monthly thing, isn’t it!? Maybe we can make a habit of this. Anyway, I wanted to round things off with a notice that I’m still working on a number of further updates to the site, including slight design tweaks to make the user experience a little cleaner, and some new features that I hope you’ll love.
But the headline here is all about the Achievements, and I want to get into the habit of offering more seasonal/exclusive Badges to encourage community discussion and connection. Stay tuned for more in the coming month/s!

Happy New Year to all our readers and everyone in our community! I hope your holiday season was full of joy and good times with family and friends. January is usually the time of year where we start looking to the near future and maybe start setting some personal goals to achieve.
The Sonic Stadium had an absolutely fantastic 2022, owing to the several-punch combo of Sonic the Hedgehog merch, games and media that released last year. The interest that you all showed in our content has been insane, and the discussion in the forums has been more active than ever! However you choose to spend your time on here, we really appreciate it and want to make sure you feel even more at home over the next year.
We definitely have a few things planned for the Sonic Stadium’s development over the course of 2023 that will hopefully excite and inspire the Sonic community. More to come on all of that soon enough. In the meantime, I want to take stock of the past year on the site, and listen to feedback on what you feel we’ve done right (and what we haven’t done quite so right) over the last 12 months.
Whether you’re a dedicated ‘Stadium user who visits and posts on the forums every day, a lurker that just pops in to check out the news and chat, or a casual Sonic fan who just likes to read the latest game information, I would really appreciate it if you could spend five minutes of your time completing our special Reader Survey. Your feedback is always valuable to me, and I take on board everything when deciding on how best to take the site forward.

It’s that time of year once again, where we gather with our family and/or loved ones and exchange gifts and share treasured memories with one another (or, if that’s not your bag, buy presents and make new happy memories on your lonesome instead)! Where did all the time go?! From all of us at the Sonic Stadium we wish you a very Happy Holidays, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for 2023.
And what a year it has been for us Sonic fans! From the very beginning it has been simply banger after banger – from the hugely successful Sonic the Hedgehog movie sequel (thank the Gods for Idris Elba), to finally getting the classic collection on console we deserve in Sonic Origins, all the way to Sonic Frontiers’ critically-acclaimed reception and Sonic Prime’s incredible Netflix debut.
That’s to say nothing of all the incredible specials and storylines that have run through Sonic’s comic universe, thanks to the tireless work of the IDW crew. No matter what your niche is, it has been a great 12 months for the blue blur!
We hope this winning streak continues throughout 2023, with Sonic Frontiers’ DLC roadmap slowly unfurling, initial news on the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie, as well as potential new projects coming from SEGA and Sonic Team.
Whatever happens, as always, you can trust us to be right there with you as the news breaks! We’ll also be slowly transforming the site over the next year to make things more exciting and help continue to make Sonic Stadium the true online home for the Sonic online community. We’ve taken some small steps over the last year or two, but there’s more yet to come.

Thirty years. SEGA’s plucky blue hedgehog has been running for three whole decades. For some of us 1990s kids who grew up playing the original game on Mega Drive/Genesis, it seems absolutely crazy to think that not only would we still be playing Sonic games, but that the SEGA mascot’s popularity is stronger than ever in 2021. For those that grew up in the 2000s, the fact that Sonic Adventure 2 released twenty years ago may make you feel similarly ancient.

It’s true that for the last two decades, we’ve been on top of the latest and greatest Sonic the Hedgehog news. But I wanted The Sonic Stadium to be more than just an information resource. My goal has been to create meaningful contributions to expand and enrich the online Sonic community. Which is why you might remember Sonic Stadium just as much for its list of wacky projects as you might for news and opinion.

Two decades is a long time for most people. For Sonic the Hedgehog, it’s probably an absolute eternity, actually. On 24th October in the year 2000, I launched the very first iteration of The Sonic Stadium. I was fifteen years old, a year away from my high school finals and the worst of what we called the ‘World Wide Web’ was still only being foreseen by the late and great David Bowie. It truly was a different time.

Twenty years. That’s how long this humble little Sonic the Hedgehog fan site has been kicking around for. The Sonic Stadium launched on 24 October 2000 and hasn’t taken a break (server crashes aside) ever since, making it possibly the oldest, longest-running Sonic site still active to this day. Over the next couple weeks, we will be celebrating our anniversary in style with special Twitch and Discord channel launches, special features and more!

It’s come to this. HostOnce, the wretches that hosted us (paid for by Zifei… the poor sod, that’s his money down the pan), decided that TSS was using too much of their “unlimited bandwidth and webspace”. So they shut down the site. Without notifying one of us. At all. Gaffy gits.

Visitors may be wondering why, when they access www.sonicstadium.org, they do not recieve the Sonic Stadium (TSS) as normal, but an unprecedented 404 Error. A quick update for the site today – I managed to restore and redesign two major sections of TSS. General Information has had a do-over, so everything should look a little neater and make more sense, while the Sonic Encyclopedia has come back! I got it right with the Sonic Site Awards 2002 – instead of a live broadcast, I pre-recorded the results so people could listen to it online. 😉 And it was a great turnout – people who were nominated showed up in the AIM Chat, and this may have brought about the biggest increase since its return.

Yeahp. You get to hear it here. FIRST. The Sonic Stadium has been open not even a week and already there’s partnerships coming along. But it’s not just any old team up here. God dammit! This month is being SO stressful to me, both for the website, and in Real Life. The irony is, is that the stress I’m getting in RL is completely unnecessary! Take my college. I’m trying to get into University for next year, and therefore must fill in an admission form and have it sent to an organisation called ‘UCAS’. The College I am at now has a Student Support section, a part of which specialises in helping students with their UCAS forms… Hah. Hah hah bloody ha ha.

Woah. Even though I have (and even stated several times) that The Sonic Stadium’s updates would be practically nil, people still keep visiting. That’s gotta be a good sign – I really need some of those signs now, as the place looks like it’s falling apart.
