Photoshop Contest, September 2016: Sonic Storybook Series

Sorry for the delay, good readers! As you likely noticed, the site went down for a brief spell today because goblins, so this couldn’t go up during a Freak-Out Friday on-time as planned. But hey, at least now we’re back on track!

During last week’s Mash-Up Monday, I proposed the idea of hosting a fun little photoshop contest here at The Sonic Stadium, and the response I received was absolutely bonkers. The theme was “Sonic Storybook,” based on the pair of Wii games that threw Sonic into the worlds of the Arabian Nights and King Arthur respectively, where you all had to throw together a box art with the idea of adding Sonic into a storybook of some kind. The best part of it? Just about anything goes. And you all answered in kind!

A lot of these entries went above and beyond my expectations, so it’s high time we show them off properly. Check them out below!

The SSMB is Hosting a Community Celebration Event with a “Sonic Musical Spectacular”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oPdHuVOOW4

It’s been one year since the SSMB community stream channel “Motobug” was founded, hosting everything from movie nights to streams of Nintendo Directs and PlayStation Live, as well as marathons of old Sonic Saturday morning cartoons. To commemorate this occasion and to celebrate everything Sonic, SSMB, and Motobug, forum user and channel co-founder Ryannumberonegamer will be hosting a “Sonic Musical Spectacular” (unrelated to the TSS Blackout remix project by DJ EAR) this Saturday at 5pm GMT (1pm EDT)!

Check out his statement below, pulled from the SSMB thread:

11 Sonics Drawn Badly, by SSMB

The Sonic fanbase can be a creative lot. There’s a wealth of content to be discovered from talented fans who create wonderful things. You’ll find pieces of stunning fan art, creative original animated series and ambitious fangames which rival the quality of even some of Sonic Team’s best. Games like Sonic: After The Sequel come to mind, with a wealth of unique well designed zones, an incredible original soundtrack and tons of creative new gimmicks. It’s hard to think of many other fanbases which match the unrivalled passion of Sonic’s. Continue reading 11 Sonics Drawn Badly, by SSMB

UPDATE: “Sound Of The Sonic Stadium” Album Dropping November, Previews Available

YouTube Preview Image

A community project by SSMB to produce a powerhouse Sonic music album like no other. Sound familiar? Lead by :: DJ EAR :: with the blessing of our very own VizardJeffhog (leader of the popular TSSMA albums of the previous few years), “Sound of The Sonic Stadium” is releasing this month! Featuring twenty artists and over thirty tracks which equals to over two hours of wonderful music, SoTSS is no doubt an ambitious feat which will maintain the spirit of TSSMA.

:: DJ EAR :: says that the goal of the album was to “maintain the fun, creative, collaborative spirit of that project [TSSMA] – while building a stable & productive future for our community of fan musicians, producers, and listeners”. Members could submit up to two tracks over a three month period in terms of music, and the more arty members could supply album art, logos or any other visuals to aid the project as well. The album’s theme was centered around the phrase “out of the ashes”.

One minute previews for nine of the tracks on the album are now available via SoundCloud for your listening pleasure! Make sure that you give it a listen and follow the project on any of their official outlets to be the first to know when the album drops. And of course, we at TSS will be there to help you stay up to date on the project as well. Keep your eyes open for it later this month!

UPDATE: It’s been officially announced that #SoTSS14 will be releasing Friday, November 28th! The release will follow a listening party hosted by Rexy over on RadioSEGA. Make sure it’s marked in your calendars folks – we’ll be tweeting as we approach the date too!

Ora ora ora! …rats!

Welp, it’s that spooky time of year again, when kids dress up as monsters and go door to door for free candy, when adults marathon horror movies, when spooky, scary skeletons send shivers down your spine… or when Sonic fans dust off their consoles and ain’t gonna let it get to them; they’re just gonna creep down in Pumpkin Hill in order to find their lost piece!

And that is exactly what we’re sharing with you today, for the fine folks at the Sonic Stadium Message Board have come together this holiday to sing a fabled Halloween carol: A Ghost’s Pumpkin Soup, by Tomoya Ohtani and Hunnid-P!

I shed a tear… That was utterly magnificent. Great job, SSMB, great job. I tip my hat to you all for participating!

Steve Lycett Speaks Out On Unused Voice Clips & Rivals Mode In ASR

In 2 posts today at the SSMB Steve Lycett Executive Producer at Sumo Digital has spoken out regarding some files in Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, first shared by nineko at Sonic Retro and then searched through 12 days ago by imarafan at the SSMB who found some unused voice clips in the files. The voice clips referenced a mirror mode and a rivals mode.

Here’s what Steve had to say on the matter –

I was going to reply to that post too, but I think I’d been to the boozer and couldn’t quite type properly when I saw it 🙂

As with all games, we recorded the commentary quite early on, so we recorded more than we planned to use, with some alternatives in case we made any late changes. Some things didn’t make it into the game, or made it in but in a different form.

The rivals one is quite interesting, what we *used* to do is have each character having a defined rival, so of course as Sonic, your rival would be Eggman. If you beat them in a GP, you’d get something extra. In the end we took this out as it wasn’t massively intuitive or clear, though… It still will give you a few extra miles even now for beating Eggman as Sonic in a race (or indeed any of the rivals we picked!)

If you’re expecting the un-used commentary to be used for DLC though, you’re barking up the wrong tree 😛

S0L
—-

Link

Well, that was part of the problem, it’s not immediately clear for some characters who their rival would be…

Ryo though has Jacky and Akira as his rivals, all martial artists, you see. You’re right about Samba and AiAi though 😛 I can’t remember off the top of my head who we had Beat have as a rival. Bear in mind of course, we considered these friendly rivalries 😛

Reverse tracks were something we originally planned to do, but as you’ve probably guessed, most of the tracks wouldn’t work the other way around due to some the jumps. We decided to focus on making them all fun the right way around! So if you do grab those VO clips that TSSZ has rather cheekily posted, now you know why 🙂

ASR: 3rd JSRF Track? + 2nd Final Fortress Track?

SSMB Member Doctor Eggman has been researching all Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing media and his eagle eyes have may have uncovered another Jet Sed Radio Future track and another Final Fortress track too.

Doctor Eggman’s report from his SSMB post is below –

Could the sunset level be a third JSRF track? The unknown sunset level has the same red/white road blocks as the daytime Shibuya-Cho level. Take a look:

Could there be TWO Final Fortress tracks? Differing times of day has made it clear that there are more than 1 JSRF track, so how about differing weather conditions in the Final Fortress footage? Take a peek:

Dark and stormy weather in these clips:

And BLUE BLUE skies in this clip:

Credit again goes to Doctor Eggman at the SSMB for the heads up!

Rumour: ASR Special Announcement May Be Delayed Until Next Week

Sonic__SEGA_All-Stars_Racing_-_GC_2009-Wii_DS_PS3_XBox_360Screenshots18142img0103

Sumo Digital’s Steve Lycett under his S0L nickname has informed everyone via the SSMB that the special announcement planned for this week regarding Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing might be delayed until next week now.

Rumour has it the announcement that was due this week – will be next week instead BTW. Apologies for being a tease on this, like I say, I’m not in charge of PR and Marketing 🙂

If it has been delayed at least it’s only another week and with that week being closer to Christmas you could say it’s a Christmas present from Sumo Digital. Now what could the announcement be…

TSS Compo Winners, New SSMB Skin

Just a quick update, the TSS Competition’s over and done with. Winners have been picked! Congrats to the winners and well done and thanks to all those peeps who have taken part and entered. The response was great, but slightly timid, which could be applied to the amount of effort needed to do to enter – usually something I don’t do, but I thought it’d be fun to do something elaborate, y’know?

The Sonic Stadium Message Board

By the time you read this, the world’s best loved Sonic community will return in all it’s former glory – it’s been a troublesome last month or so (had it really only been that short a time?) but the SSMB has shifted course from the ezBoard back onto local servers. No Ads. No Slowdown. Just classic SSMB. Make sure you read the rules before you actually register (it’s on the first page you see actually, so there’s no reason not to), and make sure you can actually type half decent and not like a dribbling baby.

Anyway, in other news, Sega Sonic Radio’s website will be revamped during the weekend, and then the first words on The Sonic Site Awards 2004 will be announced! Bet you cannae wait. Anyway, the new SSMB and SSR will tide you over the whole weekend and Bank Holiday, and then some, so enjoy what there is for now. Tata. ^_^

Well, here’s our refuge for now…

This ezBoard’s changed a bit, innit? o_O;
Just a shame I can’t mess about with the templates, or make this a sticky topic. Ah well.

The reason, if you need another one, of why we’re here is the fact that obviously everyone must be getting REALLY pissed off with the hacker (not even worthy of a mentioning of the name) spamming you, changing your username and whatnot.

We’re fed up with it too. The ezBoard is pretty rock solid. It’s all on a free networked server, available to all to post and stuff. The ezBoard staff would knacker ‘Slimy G’ (wow, what a name, I wish I thought of it) before he got a chance. Continue reading Well, here’s our refuge for now…

SSMB Fighting Game?

SSMB member, Mad Ad, talked exclusively to Dreadknux about the almost damn-near certainty of a Fighting Fan Game, including members of the SSMB. Dreadknux has given Mad Ad permission to use the SSMB and TSS name in this Fan Game, along with sprites of his character.

The plan for the fighting game is not one large game, it is lots of small instalment-like games, with each instalment being a match. Each game will be small, as it will be part of an ongoing fighting series. There is a league planned using this format style.

The way it is planned to play is very much like a basic form of Smash Bros. Characters will have a limited attack range, but scenery in stages will provide many inventive ideas for other methods of attack. Continue reading SSMB Fighting Game?

Hey there, ezBoard SSMB. It’s me, Dreadknux. You know? The guy that looked after you for the past 2 years. Wow, 2 years, has it really been that long? Seemed to go really fast! The whole place is deserted now, so it’s just me on my own. Everyone has gone to the new SSMB – the YaBB. Can’t say I won’t miss this place – there are certainly some things I will miss however. It’s about the ‘Sega Sonic Message Board’ name. First of all, I’m not changing the entire name to something that sounds completely wrong (like the recent ‘South Island Forum’ – blah). SSMB UPDATE: The Sonic Battle Stadium – Should It Continue or Not?

Public debate here – what do you guys want to do? The Sonic Battle Stadium was quite popular when it first launched, but now there seems to be less and less interest for it. I’m asking you lot, where do you think we should go with the RPG now?

  • Option 1: Call it a day. Say “It was fun while it lasted” and shut down the Sonic Battle Stadium. A piece of SSMB History would have ended, but never forgotten.
  • Option 2: Continue with the SBS in a vain attempt to pull back popularity. We can either make more or less rules to make the place more interesting, or if you like, even bring back the good old ‘Level Ups’ System.
  • Option 3: Close down The Sonic Battle Stadium, but come up with an all-new RPG game to play on the SSMB, using a different type of way to play rather than beating each other to pulp – I think less people are willing to land themselves into mortal combat nowadays, even if it is fictional.

So…. what are your thoughts? Reply to this topic, with your opinion and an explanation of why you think that option is the best choice.

I like to think that the Sega Sonic Message Board is a welcoming place to all members here, that this place is a sanctuary for anyone to speak their mind about anything.
