Sonic Lost World Top Wii U Game in UK Charts

Sonic Lost World July screenshots 28

This weeks UK game sales charts are in, courtesy of GFK Chart track, and Sonic Lost World is the top selling Wii U game. Lost World debuted at #1 in the Wii U only chart, ahead of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and Skylanders Swap Force, which was also released Friday. In the 3DS chart, Sonic Lost World entered at #4, being beaten by Nintendo’s own Pokémon X/Y and Animal Crossing: New Leaf. However, Sonic’s latest narrowly missed the top 10 all-formats chart, placing 11th behind Disney Infinity at #10.

We’ll see how Sonic Lost World fares next week with a full week of sales behind it.

With Sonic Lost World now available in Europe, SEGA has put out one last trailer for each version to showcase Sonic’s latest adventure on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Lots of gameplay and cutscene clips are shown from various stages of the game, and there’s even some dialogue in there. As you’d expect, Sonic and Eggman sure don’t sound happy about having to work together.

A new chapter in the Sonic community has opened this evening, as the Sonic Lost World community opened its doors about an hour ago on Nintendo’s Miiverse. For those not in the know, Miiverse is a social network, much like Facebook and Twitter, on both the Wii U and the web where Nintendo fans can discuss their favourite games. With the Wii U version of Sonic Lost World, players can share Colour Powers and RC Gadgets on Miiverse with each other. In an interview published today by Nintendo, SEGA’s David Corless says players can even send their Colour Powers to Miiverse and have them returned later with increased power.

Nintendo released their new Nintendo 2DS system last week, and the company is very confident that Sonic will help boost sales of the new budget-priced system with his new game Sonic Lost World.

“There is a lot of opportunity to engage with the younger audience on Sonic with the new entry-level Nintendo 2DS console. From launch to post launch we’ll be focused on kids,” said Nintendo product manager Dani Robinson.

“Peak season this year is without doubt a big celebration of Nintendo franchises and Sonic sits high on every platform gamers list of ‘must play’ titles.”

Ads for Sonic Lost World will be played at cinemas alongside Turbo 3D and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2. A TV campaign on Nickelodeon, Disney and Boomerang started October 14th and will run for three weeks.

Sonic Lost World Deadly Six Edition Revealed, New Screenshots

The European version of yesterday’s new trailer has been released and at the end it reveals a special edition of Sonic Lost World for Wii U called the Sonic Lost World Deadly Six Edition. New Sonic Lost World 3DS Screenshots Appear Online, New Wisps Revealed

Sonic Lost World 3DS Screenshots 22

Via Japanese magazine Famitsu, we have lots of new screenshots of the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Lost World. In this latest batch we see the Red Burst Wisp returns and we also are introduced to two new Wisp powers Grey Quake and Ivory Lightning. The Grey Quake Wisp sees Sonic transform into an iron ball which you move around with the gyro sensor of the 3DS. According to a rough Google translation, you can infinitely climb walls in this state and dive off of them to destroy enemies with the shock on landing, thus the name Grey Quake.

The Ivory Lightning Wisp gives Sonic the power to quickly ram enemies and obstacles in succession. A rough Google translation says Sonic will also be able to pass through wires in this state.

The Red Burst Wisp gives Sonic the same powers as in Sonic Colours for Nintendo DS. In this form, Sonic can fly/hop around in the air and charge blasts of energy to destroy surrounding enemies.

RUMOUR: Sonic Lost World Details Coming May 29th, Game Features Six ‘Guardians’

Sonic Lost World

According to a couple of our readers, the official Sonic Facebook page leaked the Sonic Lost World announcement early this morning, including three images and the promise of more details May 29th. One of the images sounds like the above one released this afternoon, while another is said to have featured the outline of six ‘guardians’ from the game who may be friends or foes. What gives these details some credibility is that both readers say the leaked post mentioned the SEGA and Nintendo partnership for the next three Sonic games BEFORE it was even announced this afternoon.

When asked about the current console tradition and how SEGA views the market right now, Einhorn briefly mentions some “very exciting” plans for Sonic in the near future in the below snippet.

Ethan Einhorn: We’re taking, on the console side, more of a pillar approach. We’re doing some very exciting things with Sonic as a brand in the near future. We’re also very heavily focused on strategy, as you’ve seen with our pickup of [Company of Heroes developer] Relic, as well as what we’re doing with [Total War developer] Creative Assembly. Of course, we’re continuing to do core titles like Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Report: Sonic Dash Launches on the App Store This Thursday

SonicDash

SEGA weren’t kidding when they said Sonic Dash will be released “soon”, if a report from Pocket Gamer France is to be believed. The website, which revealed a bunch of details about the game on Friday, claims Sonic Dash will be released on the App Store this Thursday. With SEGA only formally unveiling the game today with bare bones details and some artwork, many wouldn’t expect a release so soon. iOS games are often released about two weeks after their announcement and SEGA hasn’t even shown any screenshots or video footage of it.

Looking back, though, SEGA did list it in that Hardlight Studio job advertisement last week as a past success, like the game is complete and ready to go.

Hardlight Working on Sonic Dash for iOS?

Sonic Dash Hardlight job posting

It appears SEGA’s UK-based Hardlight studio is working on another Sonic game for iOS called Sonic Dash following their last title Sonic Jump. In a few job advertisements for the studio posted this afternoon on LinkedIn, Sonic Dash is listed as one of their two recent successes, with Sonic Jump being the other game. SEGA has since removed the title, but luckily we screen-capped the information in the above image.

UPDATE: It’s been rated for Nintendo 3DS by the US ratings board the ESRB, too.

A new rating has appeared for the Game Gear title Sonic Drift 2, suggesting that the game may finally be heading overseas to the Nintendo 3DS eShop following its release last year in Japan. The racing title was rated January 8th by the Australian Classification Board, with SEGA Europe as publisher, meaning the game is likely at least heading to Australia and Europe sometime soon. Oddly, the game is listed for ‘DVD’ as the platform, but is most likely a mistake. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
