20 Years of TSS: A Short History of The Sonic Stadium
Two decades is a long time for most people. For Sonic the Hedgehog, it’s probably an absolute eternity, actually. On 24th October in the year 2000, I launched the very first iteration of The Sonic Stadium. I was fifteen years old, a year away from my high school finals and the worst of what we called the ‘World Wide Web’ was still only being foreseen by the late and great David Bowie. It truly was a different time.

Mysterious Sonic Twitter “3” Might Be Tease or Mistake
Put on your tin-foil hats, and let’s dig into some weirdness tonight.
Yesterday (October 7), the official Sonic Twitter posted this:
Mathematically speaking, Sonic is aesthetically pleasing. pic.twitter.com/jFdWn8XOvr
— Sonic the Hedgehog (@sonic_hedgehog) October 7, 2020
Keen eyed observers picked up on a hidden “3” in the third circle of this Fibonacci spiral, sparking speculation that the social media account was trying to tease something, the most prominent theory being a third numbered Sonic Adventure game.
Then, Mike Pollock got in on… whatever is going on by replying with Schoolhouse Rock’s 3 Is a Magic Number.
— Mike Pollock (@itsamike) October 7, 2020
Later on, a user found what might be the original Shutterstock image of the Fibonacci spiral, including matching number for each associated radius within the spiral.
So now we’re stuck with a series of unusual questions: Was this on purpose, or was it an accident? And if it was on purpose, what does this “3” mean?
It’s not new for the Sonic Twitter to drop weird hidden codes with no clear purpose, but this situation is particularly tricky due to the plausible deniability of it simply being a Photoshop mistake. It seems a bit weird to miss every other number except the three, but it is a scenario that has to be considered.
There have been quite a few rumors of a possible Sonic Adventure 3 (or whatever qualifies as a Sonic Adventure game in 2021). While the three could point to it, it would be somewhat meaningless to start teasing so vaguely unless an announcement was forthcoming. If Sega intends to announce its 2021 game plans this calendar year, priming the audience now makes sense. If we hear neither tease nor announcement by January, the effectiveness of a teaser like this starts getting a bit suspect.
Further, a random three in the context of Sonic can mean any number of things other than a sequel to the Dreamcast series: It could refer to a date, 3 meaning March, or the third day of a month. It could refer to a Sonic-Heroes-esque team structure. It could directly refer to Sonic 3 (&/or Knuckles), a game they don’t re-release often and would make for a pretty special occasion if they did. We know 2021 is supposed to have multiple Sonic game releases, there could be three of them.
So, you can take those tin-foil hats off now, my point in about 400 words is that this was a thing that happened on Twitter, but it’s probably not worth getting riled up yet. There’s too much doubt to assume significant meaning in a single number hidden in a joke tweet.

SAGE 2020: Sonic Triple Trouble 16-bit is Looking to be a Quality Remake of a Portable 8-bit Classic
Out of all of Sonic’s 90s offerings, Sonic Triple Trouble is probably the most under-appreciated. Featuring some of the best levels, bosses, and music outside of the series’ core offerings, Triple Trouble is the apex of Sonic’s 8-bit entries. It built on the unique quirks of those games, while also coming the closest out of all of them to matching Sonic’s 16-bit releases. This makes it all the more frustrating that the game hasn’t seen an accessible re-release since it hit the 3DS eShop 8 years ago. Hopefully, this will be corrected soon, but until then, we’re set to get something much better: Sonic Triple Trouble 16-bit.

Sonic OVA Production Demo OST Released
A 30 minute production demo of the Sonic OVA has just been released via YouTube, thanks to the efforts of Illuminor, the same Sonic fan who was able to obtain and release the full version of the OVA’s main theme, Look-a-Like, last week.
Illuminor received this demo from the same person who sent him Look-a-Like, after asking if they had any other tracks from the production. This demo features numerous tracks from the OVA spliced together, including the long-coveted South Island theme. Many of these tracks are different from what was featured in the OVA, which leads Illuminor to believe that this is likely from before these tracks were completed. The demo also features roughly ten minutes worth of music never featured in the final production. Illuminor’s contact isn’t sure if all of this music was originally created for the OVA, as it may have been mixed in from other projects.
You can check out the production demo in its entirety below, or go to the YouTube page for time stamps of the individual tracks. Illuminor will be releasing the source files for both Look-a-Like and the production demo via the Russian Sonic fan twitter account Sonic & All Characters at a later date.

Update @ 9:33PM EST 08/26/2020: Canadian retailer Video Games Plus has also put up the listing, alongside a HQ box which you can see above. They also put up a listing for the Sonic Mania + Team Sonic Racing Double Pack as well, now with similar bilingual packaging.
###
The double packs just doubled up! Following the earlier finding of a Sonic Mania + Team Sonic Racing Double Pack for Switch, this time retailer GameFly has put up the same listing, but also added a Sonic Forces + Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz – HD Double Pack for Switch as well. Sadly there is no accompanying box art this time, but the other pack’s box art will give you an idea of what to expect.
While the Sonic Mania + Team Sonic Racing pack is dated for October 26th, 2020 on Amazon for $39.99 USD, there’s no firm date yet for the Sonic Forces + Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz HD pack. However GameFly lists both for a placeholder October 31st, 2020 date. Perhaps both will release on the same day, possibly also for $39.99 USD?
