The plan is afoot in this month’s Sonic the Hedgehog issue!
The preview for Sonic the Hedgehog #283 has been released, and this is a very strategic play if I may say so myself! The Freedom Fighters have the Gaia Keys and Chaos Emeralds, and now they’ve got a plan.

Las Vegas is hosting the annual Licensing Expo, as usual Sega are in attendance and someone actually took photos of the booth for once!
It’s certainly a different design to the usual, we’ve had a close look at the photos but we don’t see any clues or hints at anything new game wise, there might be the odd one or two new pieces of merch in there somewhere.
Anyway, enjoy the pics in their full size in the gallery.

Mark Warburton, who happens to be a producer at Travellers Tales on Lego Dimensions has made a series of tweets with regards to Sonic which both casts light onto what Sonic can actually do in the game as well as teases a possible trailer or reveal for Sonic in Lego Dimensions too.
The first tweet specifically mentions that in the Doctor Who stages, Sonic will spin attack Daleks, if you don’t know what a Dalek is, it’s basically a badnik with a mutant alien inside… who wants to destroy you.
Then in a response to another twitter user who asked about the possibility of a teaser for Sonic’s 25th, Warburton didn’t exactly say it wouldn’t happen.
So there we go, Sonic attacking Daleks and a possible teaser coming tomorrow. Now if you’ll excuse me I’ll be sat over here deciding which of these Sonic Screwdriver related puns will go into tomorrows article if the above happens.

In an interview with Famitsu, the head of Sonic Team Takashi Iizuka has confirmed that sonic team are developing a new Sonic game.
Famitsu: Finally, our last question – please tell us about Sonic’s future.
Iizuka: We at Sonic Team – are developing a completely new game, as well as developing a full movie, actively done by Sony Pictures, and animation on Sonic Boom. We are also ready to improve sponsor ties.
The most important thing is not the fact the series survived for 25 years, but how many games was developed.
Our goal – add something new and overcome any potential hardships.
Are you as shocked as we are? That a new Sonic game is in development! Well… yeah cynical response aside, what’s interesting is the use of words here, specifically ‘completely new game’ suggesting it’s not a direct sequel or might actually be something new that we’ve not seen before.

I didn’t care for Shattered Crystal back at E3 2014. Between the maze-like level design and clunky character switching, the game left me frustrated by the end of my 20+ minute play through of a single level of the game. My opinion of the game improved somewhat when it was finally released, but many of the issues I had with it remained. If Fire & Ice’s E3 demo is any indication, Sanzaru has learned a lot from their last game’s mistakes. Continue reading E3 2016: Sonic Boom Fire & Ice Preview, Alex’s Take

Yesterday, I sat down in a quiet location of E3 with the master of memes himself, Aaron Webber. We discussed a little bit of Sonic Revolution, Sonic in Lego Dimensions, but mostly Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice. You’ll hear about improvements made due to the delay, the trailer cutscene, the length of the game and much, more! So please watch and enjoy. Continue reading E3 2016: Interview With Aaron Webber

As a veteran of six (as of this year) E3s, I have begun to enter the show with a certain amount of confidence. “I’ve done this all before” I tell myself, “I’ve got this.” Every single year, this show finds some way to prove my confidence premature. For the first time since I started going to this show back in 2010, I had a lot of genuine difficulty logging time on a Sonic game. Or really, any game SEGA or Atlus had on display. In an interview with Sonic Archie comics editor Vincent Lovallo, IGN have revealed a first look at the upcoming Sonic: Mega Drive comic – and a follow up issue debuting later in the year, “Sonic: Mega Drive – The Next Level”.
The new one-shot special, created especially to celebrate Sonic’s 25th Anniversary, takes readers back in time to Sonic’s classic days set after the Death Egg saga. Sonic must take on Eggman once more to destroy his new machine of destruction – The MEGADRIVE.
As well as debuting first images of the issue, Lovallo also revealed Mega Drive #1 will be followed by another special, titled “The Next Level”. Though no specifics were shared, the comic will pick up immediately after the events of Mega Drive #1 and potentially feature Metal Sonic as the antagonist, as teased in the cover debut.
Written by Archie Sonic veteran Ian Flynn and art by Tyson Hesse, the story is said to combine “traditional comic storytelling with the structure of an actual Sonic game” with potential for an ongoing series if demand is there. The adventure will take Sonic to new lands, and shed some light on the “the bonds he has made with his friends in previous games”.
Lovallo also touches briefly on the possibility of an Archie adaption of an upcoming anniversary title – which they’d be more than down for.
That would be awesome and we are totally down to do it at Sonic speed!
“Sonic: Mega Drive #1” will debut July 6th, with “The Next Level” following further into 2016. You can check out all of today’s released art of the upcoming comic in our gallery below.

After months of inactivity, Sonic Boom Fire & Ice has finally got a new trailer. The trailer is a combination of game play footage and CG sequences. I’m unsure as to if there is anything really new in the footage, but it is nice to finally see the same after so many months of silence.
I’ll reserve judgement on what I think of the trailer for now, but let us know what you think in the comments.
Edit: I looked through both the trailers to see if I could find any noticeable differences, this was the best I could find.
There is quite a difference.

Sega have announced that Sonic Boom Fire & Ice will be getting a special ‘launch edition’ of the game. What’s in the box you ask? Well it comes with a DVD which contains some episodes of the show. Episodes in question are…
- Chili Dog Day Afternoon
- It Wasn’t Me, It Was the One-Armed Hedgehog
- It Takes a Village to Defeat a Hedgehog
Yes those are the episodes which have cameos by Metal Sonic & Shadow.
In addition to this, it’s strongly implied that Boom will be playable at this years E3.

A large proportion of the fan base to this day cite the Sonic Adventure series as being the pinnacle of the Sonic the Hedgehog gaming experience; on the most part, the games were their first jaunt into the Sonic Universe, and have defined what they come to expect from titles to this day. Being one of the more senior fans, Sonic Adventure was an exciting revival of my favourite video game franchise, after several years of stagnation and the glory days of the Megadrive now a distant echo.
