2011’s Games Master Golden Joysticks awards have been presented in London today and SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog franchise won big with the Outstanding Contribution Award. SEGA France to Demonstrate ‘New’ Sonic Generations Stage at Paris Games Week

SEGA France has unveiled all of their Paris Games Week offerings via The Blue Room (their blog). Attendees will be able to go hands-on with the PS3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo 3DS versions of Sonic Generations, both Wii and Nintendo 3DS versions of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, the upcoming digital download port of Sonic CD and Virtua Tennis 4 for PlayStation Vita.

The creator of the Yakuza and Super Monkey Ball franchises Toshihiro Nagoshi will also be there to give the first public presentation outside of Japan for his latest game Binary Domain and Sonic fans will get their first public demonstration of a new stage from Sonic Generations by Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka. As we’ve seen all of the game’s stages in trailers, this stage won’t be completely “new”, but there are still four stages we’ve not seen very much of, like Speed Highway, Crisis City, Rooftop Run and Planet Wisp, so it will likely be one of those stages.

Here’s the full schedule for the presentations and autograph sessions below:

Saturday 10:15: Presentation of a new level of Sonic Generations
Saturday 10:45: Autograph session of Iizuka san to Space Dedications

Saturday 16h30: Presentation of Binary Domain Conference Room
5:00 p.m. Saturday: Autograph session of Nagoshi san to Space Dedications

Sunday 13h15: Presentation of Binary Domain indoor demo
1:45 p.m. Sunday: Autograph session in the Space Nagoshi san Dedications

Sunday 14h00: Presentation of a new level of Sonic Generations
Sunday 14:30: Autograph session in the Space Iizuka san Dedications

Will you be attending the event? Which Sonic Generations stage are you hoping to see? Let us know in the comments section below.

After a mistaken report from SEGA stating the European PS3 version of the second Sonic Generations demo would land on the PlayStation Store yesterday, the demo is now available to download. As with the Xbox 360 version, this demo comes in both Modern and Classic Sonic flavours of Green Hill Zone, so you can try out how both hedgehogs play before the game’s release in a couple of weeks. The PS3 version of the demo weighs in at 665 MB.

The EU PS Blog says it’s available across all European locales.

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas, Oct. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Six Flags Entertainment Corporation (NYSE: SIX), the world’s largest regional theme park company, and SEGA® of America, Inc. introduced a program to promote three video game titles at Six Flags Fright Fest, which is presented by SNICKERS®.

SEGA will be promoting their newest game titles, Sonic Generations™, Rise of Nightmares™, and The House of the Dead: OVERKILL™ – Extended Cut, at Six Flags theme parks across the country through the end of October. The multi-faceted promotion includes hands-on SEGA Game Zones at participating parks and marketing across Six Flags Digital Networks, including Six Flags TV, Digital Menu Boards, and Jumbotron networks.

Sonic Generations, rated E for “Everyone” will be featured throughout the parks during the day. Both Rise of Nightmares and The House of the Dead, rated M for “Mature” audiences, will be highlighted during the Fright Fest night-time events that feature bone-chilling walk-through attractions, eerie shows and teeth-chattering thrill rides geared toward older audiences.

As a part of the partnership, Six Flags will launch the “Rise of Nightmares Six Flags Fright Fest Sweepstakes” that allows guests a chance to win a VIP package valid for the 2012 season as well as a Rise of Nightmares game and custom Xbox 360® video game entertainment system from Microsoft with Kinect™. “Six Flags and SEGA® games are both synonymous with adrenaline-pumping thrills and excitement,” said Marcella Churchill, Director of Marketing at SEGA of America. “Sonic the Hedgehog has entertained the masses for over 20 years with its fast-speed fun while The House of the Dead and Rise of Nightmares are bringing over-the-top horror to the mature living rooms. Sonic Generations Second Demo Goes Live

Thanks to Simon Perry via email and some guys in our comments for jumping on this. At around 8pm Tuesday, Sega released the second demo of Sonic Generations on Xbox Live Arcade for Gold account holders.

Sega France, and later Sega Everywhere, late last week confirmed the release for Wednesday, but rapidly backtracked to bring it forward. The PSN release in America, however, was pushed back to Tuesday the 25th.

The demo, the best part of 650 megabytes big, contains the classic Green Hill Zone featured in the previous time-restricted demo, as well as the modern version of the same zone, which has previously only been seen in the press and at game shows. And via hacking of the original demo, but let’s not go there.

PlayStation Network currently does not have the demo, so we’d love it if you guys can give us the heads up when it does!

SEGA Confirms Second Sonic Generations Demo For October 18th

UPDATE: It appears SEGA made a mistake with the earlier date for Xbox Live and EU PSN users. In an update at the SEGA blog and the SEGA Twitter feed, community manager Clumsyorchid says the demo will release tomorrow, not Wednesday.

Original article:
Following SEGA France’s announcement, SEGA Europe and SEGA of America have re-affirmed a second demo for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Sonic Generations. The demo will consist of both Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic’s Green Hill Zone acts and will be available to download October 19th via PlayStation Store in Europe and Xbox Live Marketplace in Europe and the US. SEGA of America has revealed via the SEGA Blog that US PS3 fans will get the demo October 25th. The publisher has also re-affirmed a late November release for the Nintendo 3DS version and the retail version of the PC version.

Sonic Generations PC Box Art Revealed, Not a Games For Windows Title

UPDATE: Our commenters have informed us that SEGA’s non-Games For Windows retail PC games usually support Steam, so this one likely will too. We’ll let you know when we get confirmation.

Original article:
UK retailers Amazon and Zavvi have revealed the box artwork for the Europe exclusive retail PC version of Sonic Generations, which, as you can see, is the same as the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. The box art confirms that the retail version will not be a Games For Windows title, meaning players won’t be able to unlock achievements through Windows Live and likely won’t be able to obtain any possible DLC. Achievements have already been confirmed for the Steam download version.

On the plus side, Zavvi.com has the retail PC version priced at just £14.85 at the time of this article’s publication. Bargain!

NintendoWorldReport Previews Sonic Generations 3DS, 9 Mins of Gameplay

NintendoWorldReport has posted their impressions of the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations online after some hands-on time with many of the stages in the game, including the Emerald Coast and Radical Highway levels. The website says both of these Dreamcast era stages translate from the TV screen to the smaller 3DS screen very well, and overall, they seem pretty positive about the game, though they don’t think it will top Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

NWR has also shared nearly 9 minutes of gameplay footage from the New York Comic Con demo, which we have embedded here.

German gaming website Gaming Clerks has released a nearly 12 minute long video preview of the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC version of Sonic Generations. In the video we see another playthrough of Classic Sonic’s Sky Sanctuary stage, as well as Green Hill Zone. Most interesting, though, is what we see at the 08:50 mark – the previously teased Death Egg Robot boss battle.

Check out the footage while you can, as we don’t expect it to stay on YouTube for long if SEGA sees it.

Digital Retailer Reveals Sonic Generations PC Specs

"PC Version?! What PC Version? You're crazy! Heh-heh."

“PC Version? What PC version?! You’re crazy! Heh, heh. ‘GULP!'”

If pre-orders on Steam and Direct2Drive weren’t enough, digital game retailer GreenManGaming  is now showing a listing – with specifications – for the upcoming Sonic Generations. Now, you can’t put up specs for a game unless there’s an actual game to put up specs for! So for now, consider the game officially unofficially confirmed. As far as those specs go, I don’t think your $400 laptop will be handling it. Sorry.

Minimum Requirements
Microsoft Windows 7/Vista/XP Intel Pentium Dual-Core T4200 (2×2.0GHz) or AMD equivalent 2GB RAM (Windows 7/XP)/3GB RAM (Windows Vista) NVIDIA GeForce 8800 / ATI Radeon HD 2900 11 GB free hard drive space

Recommended Requirements
Microsoft Windows 7 Intel Core i5 @ 2.66 GHz / AMD Phenom II X4 @ 3.0 GHz 3GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 / ATI Radeon HD 5850 11 GB free hard drive space

Now to sit back and wait for Sonic Retro to hack the game into pieces. 😉 Can’t wait to see what folks do with the game engine.
