This week’s Mash-Up Monday provides you with yet another Michael Jackson/Sonic mash-up… through an interesting combination that hasn’t even been tried until now! MJ’s “Thriller” meets Mystic Mansion from Sonic Heroes in “Michael’s Mansion”!
Quite fitting, I’d have to say! Makes sense considering the tropes of both songs!
Found an interesting mash-up? Want to send in one of your own and get it featured? Then send it over at vizardjeffhog@sonicstadium.org!

In that case, it would be an awesome Sound Test Saturday, wouldn’t it!
April is a beautiful month, is it not? Spring is here, snow is gone, and the weather is beginning to warm up! Warmth and heat is always a nice thing… unless the whole city’s on fire!
For this week’s column, we got a couple of hot song covers for you all! And not just any kind of music covers: I mean high quality, grade A, top of the line, hot hot hot singing and songwriting! That’s right, this week’s Sound Test Saturday brings you pre-existing Sonic music with lyrics!
Let’s turn the heat up and start off with Smooth4Lyfe‘s energetic cover of Modern Crisis City, “Heart of Fire”!

In 1981, a film was released about two British athletes who ran in the Olympics – one for the glory of God, the other to overcome prejudice.
Now in 2012, a lone hedgehog also runs, in hope of saving his world from tyranny.
Through green hills and spring yards, against all odds, against everything, he must run… for running is all he knows, and running is all he shall ever know…
(Please note: this video ends with quite a literal Sonic boom)

Prominent Sonic community interviewer TitansCreed is best known for his rather interesting and insightful Community Spotlight discussions at Sonic Wrecks. With this, his latest interview, TC goes for the multimedia angle – in more ways than one. Not only is this a recorded audio chat on a YouTube video player, but the interviewees in question happen to be none other than flash animation studio Sonic Paradox.
Listen to TC chat with the members of this hilarious troupe, known for their comical antics with the Sonic Shorts and various other spoof animations. BoozermaN, GameBuddy, Cyberlink420, SSF1991, RocktheJake, Celestorion, Lithuania and Hieifireshadow are among the guys facing questions in this special interview.
Give it a listen and show your support/give your reactions in the comments area, why don’t you?

Those who have downloaded and promptly deleted the alpha demo of Sonic 2 HD no longer need to fear of alleged keylogging, GeneHF of Sonic Retro shares, saying that the game demo is safe of said malicious software. This announcement follows that of LOst being booted from the S2HD team. Read the full story after the jump.

[UPDATE] Earlier today, S2HD Project Manager Canned Karma announced that LOst, Sonic 2 HD‘s programmer who needlessly added DRM protection to the long anticipated fan game, is no longer part of the project, as stated in the Sonic Retro forum.
All of us had the exact same reaction everyone here did, and we’re actively looking into it to the best of our abilities. That said, we’ve heard just as much from LOst as anyone here has lately, so I’m not sure what, if anything, we’ll be able to find that corroborated or refutes what’s been brought to light. I will say this though. LOst is no longer a part of S2HD. I’ll have a more in depth response soon. We’re just as pissed off about this as the community is.

Welcome to a very special edition of Mash-Up Monday! After last week’s magical mash-ups, we found something that’s bound to be a slam for all of you! I hope you’re ready, because this week’s mash-ups are simply jamming!
Just like its fellow songs that work with just about anything (LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem”, “Guile’s Theme” from Street Fighter, the theme to TheFresh Prince of Bel-Air), Quad City DJ’s “Space Jam” is another tune that mashes with just about any song. Sonic music is of no exception!
That being said, let’s boot up the SEGA Jamnesis and begin our journey in the shoes of Slamnic the Hedgehog and Miles “Jam” Prower! Slam-Up Jamday Act 1: the checkered emerald basketball court of Green Slam Zone!
“WELCOME TO THE JAM.”
Chemical Jam below!

Its lush checkered emerald fields are guarded by more than just Motobugs; there is great evil there that does not sleep, and the great Eggman is ever watchful. It is a point of no return, where runners must keep their feet on the ground if they are to run away as the very air they breathe is filled with haste.
Only by Super Sonic Racing could you do this. If not, it is folly.

Fellow Sonic and SEGA news site TSSZ News, formerly The Super Sonic Zone, celebrates another 365 days gone by as of April 2nd, now clearing its thirteenth year since its official launch in 1999. Founded and led by Tristan Oliver, the six-man team is known for covering and breaking several major stories, and sometimes the more controversial ones, from all corners of the SEGA community.
The Sonic Stadium wishes TSSZ a happy 13th birthday and all the best through the next year!

Sorry readers, but with me around and this particular subject’s ever-growing popularity on the internet, this was bound to happen at some point! Whether you hate it, love it, or tolerate it, things have just gotten 20% cooler around here, because it is PONY TIME today on The Sonic Stadium!
This week’s Mash-Up Monday brings you a grand total of four mash-ups, all of which combining music under both Sonic the Hedgehog and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic franchises.
The first two mash-up the actual music from the show. Planet WinterWisp sees a lovely combination of Planet Wisp and Winter Wrap Up, while Escape from the Cutie sports the memorable City Escape theme alongside the delectable lyrics from Cupcakes.

Watch out, lassies! For this week’s Freak-Out Friday, we’ve got something that’s pawsitively fetching!
YouTube user Melpontro gave Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 a new leash on life as he hacks into the game and starts playing with the models, unintentionally creating a new story.
It is the story of a young pup who’s had it ruff, until one day, he is found by a certain blue hedgehog who just arrived to the kingdom of Soleanna. What the hedgehog didn’t count on was the impact he left on the beloved dog.
To this day, the pup still looks up to Sonic. Striving to be as fleat as the blue blur, to reach high speeds without having to pawse, to keep a pawsitive outlook on life… and to make all of those Eggman’s robots run for the hills!
This is the tail…
…of Pelé, the Beloved Dog.

Now that’s a good boy!
Check out more of Melpontro’s Sonic ’06 hacks after the jump. Beagl-ad there were puns this Friday!

You might remember back in December we reported on a rather obscure arcade game called Sonic Cosmo Fighter Galaxy Patrol, a game which sees Sonic take on the role of a galactic fighter pilot, there’s something I didn’t think I’d ever type.

After a tech demo over three-and-a-half years ago and a teaser trailer last year, the team behind Sonic 2 HD has now made a playable alpha demo available to the community. Eager players can experience the entirety of Emerald Hill Zone in high definition, complete with Sonic 3 & Knuckles-style act transitions and upgraded music.
As of now, the demo can only run on Windows operating systems ranging between Windows XP and Windows 7. Download links are available on the Sonic 2 HD homepage, as well as 1080p screenshots and beautiful desktop wallpapers. Further project details are available on Sonic Retro.

Mashup Monday this week brings you what, from looking at Youtube, was apparently the logical conclusion with these two songs.
Warning: Swearing. Unfortunately – or fortunately, depending how you feel about it – these mashups use the uncensored version of the song. Never let it be said that we at TSS don’t care about your virgin ears!

Crush 40 gave us a sneaky peak at some of the track titles of the songs the band are currently working on last month, named “Rise Again”, “One of Those Days” and “Sonic Youth”. A post today on the Crush 40 facebook page confirmed these songs have now been recorded, with commentary from Johnny Gioeli on the themes of these songs.

USAopoly, a US based board game company, is now making several Sonic branded board games, including:
A Sonic Die Cut Puzzle game, being sold for $14.99
A Sonic memory game, also being sold for $14.99
Finally, the holy grail of the bunch, a Sonic branded Monopoly game, currently priced between $30-$40.
All of these games are expected to launch sometime in August 2012. Unfortunately, there are no images or additional information available. Anyone want to start making predictions on properties and pieces? A metal Sonic shoe is most definitely a shoe in.
Special thanks to SSMB member Hogfather for bringing this to our attention, as well as SEGAbits/SEGA Memories staff member Barry the Nomad for making the awesome image you see above! If you want to see the fan made board game Barry created the image for, you can follow its production here.

I’m at a loss for words. Who’d have thought that Sonic Team’s fervent interest of shoehorning numerous monsters, demons and demigods as antagonists would lead them so far as to remove one gaming’s most beloved, memorable villains altogether?

The Sonic Stadium is proud to present it’s first official community release project – The Sonic Stadium Music Album 2011.
Assembled in a span of two months, 16 budding musicians on the SSMB banded together in an effort to bring out the ideas and concepts of our creative community at TSS. What was once a mere collaborative mini-album with a 15-track estimate, as envisioned by forum member and project leader VizardJeffhog, grew into an unmediated storm of tracks and tunes, something we hope will be the first of the many future community-driven projects to follow at TSS.

Although you’re still going to have to wait another five months for the event itself, the Summer of Sonic website is now up and running with a swanky new look and a funky-fresh logo!
Although nothing is being revealed yet and ticket applications have not been announced, you can still head over to the site and register your interest for the event.
What’s more, Summer of Sonic is always looking for fan input – so the question is put to you guys and girls….do you have any great ideas for Summer of Sonic? Maybe you’d like a particular guest to come along, or an old face to return? If you do, head over to the SoS site and let the team know about it in the comments!

We love Mike Pollock, the voice of Doctor Eggman and many other characters throughout the world of animation; some of you may have spotted Mike wandering around at Summer of Sonic last year and will know how awesome this guy is!
The guys over at DeNomHat caught up with Mike recently in this hour-long interview, where they talk everything from inspirations to voice acting and careers in animation.

SEGASonic: Radio, TSS’ livestream of 24/7 Sonic the Hedgehog music, will unfortunately be closing it’s doors on Sunday for some much needed renovation. The station has been in a state of gradual deterioration for some time, with shows becoming increasingly intermittent and scarce, mostly due to other (mostly real-world) obligations of the DJs.

We might not have a Mash-Up Monday for you today, but we have something just as awesome – a pair of YouTubing music artists, NoneLikeJoshua (Josh) and Boyinaband (Dave), have gone and fused Sonic the Hedgehog with this crazy Dubstep trend that’s going around.
The result? Pretty incredible. I particularly like the remix of the Sonic & Knuckles title screen – that’s just been dying for some Dubstep. The rap lyrics might not be all that, but to be fair they’re writing lyrics about a cartoon blue hedgehog.
Today also happens to be that phony ‘unholiday’ that they call Blue Monday (which is not only false but annoying as well – cheer up!), so let’s use this video to turn the meaning of Blue Monday into something more Sonic-oriented! Yeah. We’re taking it back. Bitch.
Thanks to Elson ‘Darkspeeds’ Wong who made us aware of the video.

That they’ll spend over 5 days beating who-knows-how-many games is a given. What isn’t, however, is Sonic representation. This year, though, four classics from the series are going to get ruined over the course of a 3-hour segment.
The whole schedule is here, but starting at about 9pm on Thursday, the original Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles (does that count as two games?) and Sonic Adventure 2 (with a 2-man race) are up.

Some fans always complain about how Sonic should go back to the ‘classic’ style. Well, what if that was taken literally? Today (in 2011), animator Mr Stupes has released a cute little cartoon presenting the blue blur as the hero of a silent movie! Continue reading BlueTube: Sonic the Sound Cartoon (Again)

It’s always difficult condensing 365 days worth of events into a thousand words…particularly after a whirlwind year like this! We all certainly expected a lot from SEGA for a 20th anniversary year, most of us were really taken by surprise by the massive torrent of treats that had been prepared for the end of Sonic’s second decade.

Many of you will know and recognise some of Jun Senoue‘s signature custom guitars – most notably the Sonic guitar that has visited two Summer of Sonic events (and some of you have been honoured enough to hold!). The Sonic guitar is but one of many guitars in Senoue-san’s arsenal of axes, and you can now check all of these out on ESP Guitar’s Japanese site.
The lineup includes the George Lynch custom with the Nascar-esque decals that has featured throughout the early days of Crush 40 and on many album inserts, to the 24-fret Shadow “tattoo” guitar that helped bring the heavier tones to the Shadow the Hedgehog title.
The site also includes videos taken at the Crush 40 live in Tokyo gigs.
