  4. When was this recorded? I’d find it annoying if the guy acts like he still plays the character’s voices.

  6. I personally think they should’ve kept him for Shadow, but I like Roger Craig Smith’s Sonic voice more.

    1. I agree, I mean Shadow’s new voice isn’t really getting to me…..though Sonic’s is perfect with Mr. Smith at the helm. I wonder why Jason Griffith couldn’t stay with the new voice cast….

      1. I still have hope for Kirk. He’s trying, really trying. He changed his voice due to complaints from Free Riders (at least, comparing one line of dialogue from that to the one line of true dialogue in Generations), but now, he sounds too young for Shadow. He’s a great actor, but it isn’t his fault that he barely got any lines to speak for Shadow in Generations. You can’t expect him to improve, or anyone to improve, if they can’t really practice it or put it to use.

        Although I still prefer David over Jason and Kirk ^^’

  7. Didnt like any of his voices. Shadow’s SA2 – SH voice was SPOT ON!

    Jason had no right voicing 2 characters when he couldnt even get his main one right.

      1. Lets not forget how well of a job he did for Jet’s voice.

        Making such a cool character make me want to just choke him to death or rip out his voice box.

        1. Yeesh, he wasn’t THAT bad. I wasn’t fond of his Jet but I think he did good with Sonic and Shadow.

    2. I dunno, Jason did a pretty damn good job at the characters he was portraying.

      Besides, if David Humphry was still voicing Shadow, imagine how worse the fangirls would be.

      1. I wish David was back, honestly. All the crazy rabid fangirls can just…Ugh. I’m a girl, and I’m a fan, but I’m not crazy OR rabid. I mean, a little crazy, but not like “Ooooooh!” crazy.

        …In other words, I don’t throw a fit if the voice is a little off. I only get mad when a character doesn’t match their established personality (like SEGA forgot who they were doing XD).

    They should of just stuck with Ryan Drummond.
    Jason was my least favorite Sonic voice even below burke.
    But anyways.
    I do agree, Jason does a better shadow than the new guy, but I personally prefer Humphrey the most.

    But yeah… Im confused… why is he saying it like he still is the voices?
    Scares the crap out of me.

    1. Jason doesn’t need to mention as we already know he doesn’t voice the characters anymore this is just a friendly message 😛

    Jason was my favorite Sonic. He knew the character and it showed in his voice acting. Not bashing the other two – just sayin’.

  18. Ahh, Jason Griffith, how I’ve missed you! I know I’m probably alone on this, but he was my favorite Sonic and Shadow (and his Jet voice was good too, once I got used to it). He’s doing a fantastic job as Cilan on Pokemon BW, though.

  19. I found Griffith SOUNDED like Sonic and Shadow, but his intonations when reading his lines were all over the place, though it was certainly improving by the time Sonic Unleashed rolled out.

  23. I don’t see why this is igniting discussion about how good of an actor Griffith was, or how he stacks up to the others who have taken on the Sonic character. He just recorded a short clip for the Sonic Stadium, which I think was pretty cool of him. Regardless of whether he’s the best or worst Sonic, why can’t we appreciate his positive, friendly attitude and say ‘hi’ back?

  25. He looks…Like a hobo with that scruff. Now I’m gonna join everyone in saying “He was my favorite Shadow!!” Seriously, did you hear Shadow’s line before the final boss in Generations? I can honestly say that line was worse than all of Shadow’s dialogue in Free Riders…but whatever.
    I wanna hug Griffith and put that frown on his face upside down.

    1. Kirk’s trying. Not his fault he barely got a line to try and improve XD I can HEAR it, but he just needs to find the right tempo, like with all the others. No one liked Jason when he started, but once he found the right tempo he turned into a good actor.

      I have faith that Kirk will get it down eventually.

      Also, HI JASON. Lol. As if he reads these comments…

  26. People need to grow up
    I’ll admit that Sonic’s new voice is better then Jason’s version. He sounds more mature and more natural when he speaks. However!! There is no way, in the history of ways, that Jason Griffith, and the rest of the 4-Kids voice actors, ruined their characters!!
    The voice actor’s before them were terrible!
    In SA2 you could tell that all of the characters were reading their lines, especially Tails.
    Amy sounded like a cat being strangled.
    Sonic sounded like a old man trying desperately not to let go of his youth.
    Shadow didn’t sound angry, he sounded bored.
    Knuckles sounded drunk.
    Rouge sounded like she was 13 trying to act 16.
    And Eggman just sounded like he was trying to hard.
    Not that I’m bashing or anything *shifty eyes*
    Anyway, I think the 4-kids cast, though not perfect, still gave the character’s some personality. Personally I think they made a mistake changing some of the voices. I like Sonic, Tails and Knuckles new voice. But with Amy, Rouge and Jet??
    Amy gets whinyer, Jet sounds like a Sonic-obsessed Nerd “I’ll beat you Sonic the Hedge-hog” (tbh I lol when he adresses Sonic ^^) and with Rouge… has anyone noticed that at the end of Generation when she says “You got this Sonic” she sounds so much like Sally, its really weird o3o
    Anyway. There is my… unplanned but here anyway rant. Agree or disagree on your own terms.
    I am going to say hi now…. Hii Jason 😀

    1. Actually, Shadow was the one who said ” You got this, Sonic!”

      Rouge said “You can do it, Sonic”.

      Btw, to the people not liking Shadow’s new voice, please get over it. I don’t like it either, but it was ONLY 1 LINE. Wait ’till there is a game where Shadow talks a lot, and I’m sure Shadow will sound better. 🙂 We just need to give Kirk some time to get Shadow’s voice right. I’m sure if Shadow’s lines sounded anything like in Generations, SEGA would not let it slide.

      1. Shadow actually DOES talk a lot in a game that’s already out that features the new voice actor. Sonic Free Rides showcases the new Shadow a decent amount. It sounds kind of like the guy’s trying to take Shadow in a geeky alien direction. Like they want Shadow to be the new Kif Kroker.

        One could argue that the “story mode” from Free Riders is pretty light fare, and not a fair measurement of the actor’s skill. Based on what’s there, however, he’ emotes very little. I wasn’t happy with the 4Kids takeover, but Shadow was easily the character who received the best voice work from 2005-2009. I wouldn’t mind seeing Griffith reprise the role. Perhaps Drummond could return as Metal Sonic. One can always dream.

        1. Yes, but from what I heard (one line from Riders) Kirk did change his voice. He knows about the complaints. But, like I’ve said and that the person before said, he got one actual line of dialogue (let us agree that being peppy does not fit Shadow). He’s really trying, but you can’t get better when you have so few of lines.

          He’ll get better, and in the unlikely event he doesn’t, it’s likely SEGA might bring back Jason or David.

          Although, I will say this – in battle with the Time Eater, Shadow’s warnings sounded far better than his actual dialogue. It sounded very much like him, in my opinion. That, and he wasn’t freaking out like the rest were XD

        I still think Rouge sounded like Sally though.
        Oh well, I guess in time we’ll all get used to the voices and be happy with them 🙂

      1. Actually they aren’t my favorite voice actor’s, I just think they were better then the ones before. I’m just sick of going online and hearing people bashing about how the voices ruined their characters when personally I think they did a better job.
        I stated my opinion and I never asked anyone else to agree with it. “Agree or Disagree on your own terms” means you either share my opinion or you don’t. Simple as.
        But I’m guessing you already knew that and was just pointing it out in a way to try and make me look stupid.
        Well who’s being mature now?

        1. You are impossible to get through to, aren’t you? The problem doesn’t lie with the fact that you stated your opinion. It’s that you acted hypocritically. Saying “people need to grow up because of THIS” and then doing ‘THIS’ means that you, apparently, have to grow up. So, you’re obviously full of crap. Unless that was what you were implying, in which case… good job!

          I’m not trying to make you look stupid. I simply found what you said amusing. We all say things that are silly, nonsensical, hypocritical, redundant, etc. I think it’s important to catch ourselves, and to be called on our mistakes, even if they are minor. Sometimes things sound neat-o when we hear them in our head, or even aloud. I’m sure “agree or disagree on your own terms,” for example, sounded good initially. But… maybe you should consider ditching it in the future.

          And, my dear boy, you are talking to a grown man who obsesses over video games about a giant, talking blue hedgehog in running shoes saving the planet from a comically obese bald man. Were you under the impression that there was room for maturity here?

          1. .Okay, maybe I was being hypocritical, and maybe I didn’t write the best comment in the world. But to me, you giving a descent comment, then replying again with an insulting comment that I felt like it tried to make me look stupid, well I think you could understand why I was annoyed. I just hate people giving abuse on the voice actors, and those comments I made were based on the SA games. I’ll admit that when it came to Sonic Hero’s they were pretty damn good. It was only after I made the comment I remembered how they were in that game and kind of regretted what I said. After all they were improving.
            I’m happy to admit that I was wrong, satisfied?
            But if you want to settle things properly then don’t send people comments saying that their full of crap, cus no one is going to take you seriously. Oh and one last thing, I’m a girl, not a boy.

            Regardless of how we feel about the voice actors, I do agree that people need to lay off a bit. As I said in another comment, it’s amazing to me how Griffith could do something simple, yet a bit thoughtful and say “hi” to all of us, even though he isn’t even the voice of Sonic anymore, and the reaction from some people is “Griffith sucked” or “he’s not the voice anymore, so announcing himself as the voice of Sonic annoys me.”

            Oh, and sorry for making the assumption that you were a guy. I should know better than to do that kind of thing…

    Well Tails probably sounded like that since he WAS voiced by a child.
    And I totally agree about Rouge’s line in Generations! I always think she sounds like Sally! 😀

Really? The man went to the trouble of recording a friendly greeting for TSS and you bite his head off? Real mature, guys.

    Anyway, howdy, Jason! Very nice of you to drop a message around these parts! I’ve always been a fan of your Sonic and Shadow performances and I loved you as Mirage Leo in Turtles Forever. Good luck on all of your latest voice acting projects and I hope that you can set something up with TSS/The Sonic Show again in the future. I’d LOVE to see an interview! 🙂

  31. The man did his fucking job like he was supposed to, and now look what’s he’s done – like a good sport, he’s shown his face on camera regardless of what people thought of him.

    Grow a freaking pair, this man was a GOOD voice actor! There was so much meaning in Secret Rings and Black Knight, there was so much more to see from Sonic than just a hedgehog who runs really fast, and if anyone was the man to do the job, it’s this guy right here.

I still miss Jason Griffith so much he was the best Sonic voice IMO 🙂 He was awesome as Shadow and Jet too I’m wishing him good luck on future roles and latest voice acting projects it’s nice of him to pop back and welcome everyone on here, I’m also glad he was helping Dan not only is he an excellent voice actor but a kind-hearted guy too 🙂 I’d love to see him do an interview soon and maybe like chaoscontrol14 said set up something here in the future …why are some people still annoyed? he just recorded a friendly message to all of us and we should be grateful 🙂 This guy is an awesome VA 😀

  36. We can argue about which Sonic voice actor was better ’til the Chao come home. In terms of Shadow, though, Griffith was certainly better than the previous guy. He didn’t get it quite right in Sonic X but in Shadow the Hedgehog, his voice acting was superb.

  38. I’ll certainly miss the poor guy, but at least Roger Craig Smith does a damn fine Sonic these days.

    I’m also in the minority for liking Shadow’s new actor. Seriously, am I the only one who can hear a hint of Humphry with the new actor?

    1. If the Kirk Thornton got rid of the ‘Spanish lisp’, I would be a very happy lady. Just saying.

      1. I agree with you grandmastersexay that Spanish lisp Shadow has now, made me laugh since it sounds like I was the one voice acting with my natural voice. Besides the Spanish lisp it sounded to me Shadow is too soft-spoken now.

  39. Heya Griffith! Your voice acting in Sonic X is a major reason as to why I’m a Sonic fan today, and I bet there’s many more who had then same experience. So thank you for your hard work, and good luck to your future voice acting endeavors.

  41. Really… Am I the only one who feels like roger isn’t the right voice for sonic? Jason wasn’t too good at first but then he got better. He was mature, sarcastic, smart, cool and layed back. Roger is in your face much like a frat boy.. too cocky and it doesn’t feel like sonic. The voice isn’t bad but isn’t the sonic I remember who says “everything will be okay I promise” I couldn’t take roger seriously saying that.

    1. I know how you feel man. While I don’t hate Roger’s Sonic, I’d definitely prefer Jason over him

    2. The problem isn’t Roger, it’s the people who started writing the scripts after Jason left..it’s disgusting…If they had, say the adventure series sonic, with Roger voicing THOSE lines, I’m almost positive you would feel different. The new scripting is that bad.

  43. Hello Jason ^^ Nice to hear from you. I will say that I didn’t like your voice very much at first, especially Shadow, but you got much better with time and practice. You are missed, in the event you actually read this ^^

    It’s always nice to see the actor behind the voice, too ^^

    1. Agreed. Honestly I felt sad when they the announcement for recasting sonic came out. I will always remember you when I shout “You’re too slow!” at my friends haha. (Smash Brawl Reference)
