German website VideoGamesZone.de has today provided the world’s first review of the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC version of Sonic Generations and the game earned a high score of 85%. The website praised its many unlockables and hidden secrets, its stage selection and the combination of 2D and 3D gameplay. Negatives include its “inconsequential story” and the controls.
VideoGamesZone.de has also shared three new screenshots, which you can view below.

Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka announced at SEGA France’s Paris Games Week presentation over the weekend that the original Mega Drive/Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog game will be an unlockable bonus in Sonic Generations. This won’t be news to those who followed the June demo leaks, but for those who didn’t, this should be very welcome news. That is unless you own the original or one of the many ports out there already.

The UK’s Official Nintendo Magazine has previewed the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations in their latest issue and within it are a few details about physics, Casino Night Zone and the Metal Sonic Rival challenge.
* Regarding Classic Sonic’s physics, the magazine says “The Mega Drive physics are more or less spot-on, and far better than they were in recent WiiWare release Sonic 4.”
* According to ONM, Classic Sonic’s Casino Night Zone music is “slightly modernised but for the most part it’s faithful to the ditties from the older games.”, while the remixed Modern Sonic version is “bursting with saxophone solos and various other musical flourishes.”
* The Metal Sonic boss battle is a race to reach the end of the level before he does. ONM says “It reminds us of the two-player mode in Sonic 2 and it’s a fun, challenging stage.”
ONM will have a review of the game in next month’s issue, which is due out in UK stores November 17th. To read their full preview, pick up their December issue at your local retailer now for £3.99.

As we reported October 19th, SEGA France and Sonic team head Takashi Iizuka held their Sonic Generations presentation at the Paris Games Week yesterday morning, and thanks to attendee funkyjeremi83 we have video footage of it. The “new” stage shown was Rooftop Run, which had previously only been shown in screenshot form.
As you can see in the video, Rooftop Run has changed greatly compared to its Sonic Unleashed counterpart. The stage has been given a big facelift in presentation and because it’s one of the last stages in Sonic Generations, the difficulty has been increased.

The full 9 stage hub world was also shown at the presentation, and again thanks to funkyjeremi83, you can see footage of that, too.

2011’s Games Master Golden Joysticks awards have been presented in London today and SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog franchise won big with the Outstanding Contribution Award. The award is the first of its kind for the Golden Joysticks, and so it’s a big honour for SEGA and the Sonic series to receive it.
There’s also news from GirlGamersUK.com editor Diane’s Twitter feed that a new Sonic Generations trailer was shown at the Golden Joysticks. We’ll be sure pass that on here once SEGA releases it online.

You may remember we reported September 9th that UK Wii Nintendo Channel show Nintendo TV News announced that they would have an exclusive preview for the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations in their then next episode on September 23rd. Well, that preview never came and has been missing since with no word of when we can expect it. That is, until today.
At the end of today’s show it was announced that next Friday’s show on October 28th will now feature their Sonic Generations 3DS preview as well as an interview with Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka. Let’s just hope the show airs as planned this time. We’ll pass on any new information revealed in the episode.

SEGA Japan has given a big update to their Sonic Generations website and among the additions are 15 new images from the game’s story introduction scene. The game opens with a picnic Sonic’s friends are holding for his Birthday, before new enemy creature Time Eater comes along and sucks up Sonic and his friends into warp holes spread out across Sonic’s 20 year history.
Take a look at the images in our gallery.
Details of the story introductions from the HD version and the 3DS version have also been revealed and we have English translations of those courtesy of San.ake from Sonic Retro.
PS3/Xbox 360/PC version

Sonic’s friends are absorbed into a vortex,
and Sonic is left helpless.
Nothing but a white world in front of his eyes…
What is this place? Where are his friends?
Everything remaining a mystery,
an adventure that crosses both space and time starts!
3DS version

What is this place? Where is Tails?

SEGA France has unveiled all of their Paris Games Week offerings via The Blue Room (their blog). Attendees will be able to go hands-on with the PS3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo 3DS versions of Sonic Generations, both Wii and Nintendo 3DS versions of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, the upcoming digital download port of Sonic CD and Virtua Tennis 4 for PlayStation Vita.
The creator of the Yakuza and Super Monkey Ball franchises Toshihiro Nagoshi will also be there to give the first public presentation outside of Japan for his latest game Binary Domain and Sonic fans will get their first public demonstration of a new stage from Sonic Generations by Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka. As we’ve seen all of the game’s stages in trailers, this stage won’t be completely “new”, but there are still four stages we’ve not seen very much of, like Speed Highway, Crisis City, Rooftop Run and Planet Wisp, so it will likely be one of those stages.

Saturday 10:15: Presentation of a new level of Sonic Generations
Saturday 10:45: Autograph session of Iizuka san to Space Dedications
Saturday 16h30: Presentation of Binary Domain Conference Room
5:00 p.m. Saturday: Autograph session of Nagoshi san to Space Dedications

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas, Oct. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Six Flags Entertainment Corporation (NYSE: SIX), the world’s largest regional theme park company, and SEGA® of America, Inc. introduced a program to promote three video game titles at Six Flags Fright Fest, which is presented by SNICKERS®.
SEGA will be promoting their newest game titles, Sonic Generations™, Rise of Nightmares™, and The House of the Dead: OVERKILL™ – Extended Cut, at Six Flags theme parks across the country through the end of October. The multi-faceted promotion includes hands-on SEGA Game Zones at participating parks and marketing across Six Flags Digital Networks, including Six Flags TV, Digital Menu Boards, and Jumbotron networks.
Sonic Generations, rated E for “Everyone” will be featured throughout the parks during the day. Both Rise of Nightmares and The House of the Dead, rated M for “Mature” audiences, will be highlighted during the Fright Fest night-time events that feature bone-chilling walk-through attractions, eerie shows and teeth-chattering thrill rides geared toward older audiences.
As a part of the partnership, Six Flags will launch the “Rise of Nightmares Six Flags Fright Fest Sweepstakes” that allows guests a chance to win a VIP package valid for the 2012 season as well as a Rise of Nightmares game and custom Xbox 360® video game entertainment system from Microsoft with Kinect™. The sweepstakes will be promoted via the Six Flags Media Networks, at sixflags.com, and through local in-market radio stations.
“Six Flags and SEGA® games are both synonymous with adrenaline-pumping thrills and excitement,” said Marcella Churchill, Director of Marketing at SEGA of America. “Sonic the Hedgehog has entertained the masses for over 20 years with its fast-speed fun while The House of the Dead and Rise of Nightmares are bringing over-the-top horror to the mature living rooms. We could not think of a better partnership to express these qualities.”
“This partnership is a true testament to our ability to tailor programming suitable for a specific demographic,” said David McKillips, Senior Vice President Corporate Alliances & Partnership Marketing. “Sonic Generations is the perfect fit for our family-themed daytime entertainment just as Rise of Nightmares and The House of the Dead, both M-rated, will only be enjoyed by our more mature audiences at Fright Fest night events.”
Six Flags is open for Fright Fest weekends in October. For more information, visit frightfest.sixflags.com.

UPDATE: Our commenters have informed us that SEGA’s non-Games For Windows retail PC games usually support Steam, so this one likely will too. We’ll let you know when we get confirmation.
Original article:
UK retailers Amazon and Zavvi have revealed the box artwork for the Europe exclusive retail PC version of Sonic Generations, which, as you can see, is the same as the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. The box art confirms that the retail version will not be a Games For Windows title, meaning players won’t be able to unlock achievements through Windows Live and likely won’t be able to obtain any possible DLC. Achievements have already been confirmed for the Steam download version.
On the plus side, Zavvi.com has the retail PC version priced at just £14.85 at the time of this article’s publication. Bargain!

NintendoWorldReport has posted their impressions of the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations online after some hands-on time with many of the stages in the game, including the Emerald Coast and Radical Highway levels. The website says both of these Dreamcast era stages translate from the TV screen to the smaller 3DS screen very well, and overall, they seem pretty positive about the game, though they don’t think it will top Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
NWR has also shared nearly 9 minutes of gameplay footage from the New York Comic Con demo, which we have embedded here.

The actual construction of the playground will take place on October 28th by SEGA volunteers and members of East Oakland community, and will be completed in just one day. Pretty quick, huh?

The space will provide more than 400 children in the East Oakland community with a safe place to play, creating an inspirational and fun location for all to enjoy for years to come.
“SEGA is very excited to partner with KaBOOM! to bring an amazing and unique new play-space to the kids of Youth UpRising and East Oakland,” says Marcella Churchill, Director of Marketing at SEGA of America. “There could not be a better way to celebrate Sonic the Hedgehog’s 20th Anniversary than to continue his message of energy, fun and play among the community with this playground and partnership.”
“We’re excited to be working in conjunction with SEGA and Youth UpRising to provide children in Oakland with a new playground,” said Darell Hammond, KaBOOM! Founder and CEO. “Every child deserves to have a great place to play and with the new playground in Oakland KaBOOM! will move one step closer to our vision of a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America.”

Since then, KaBOOM! has mapped over 85,000 places to play, built more than 2,000 playgrounds, and successfully advocated for play policies in hundreds of cities across the country. KaBOOM! also provides communities with online tools to self-organize and take action to support play on both a local and national level.

German gaming website Gaming Clerks has released a nearly 12 minute long video preview of the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC version of Sonic Generations. In the video we see another playthrough of Classic Sonic’s Sky Sanctuary stage, as well as Green Hill Zone. Most interesting, though, is what we see at the 08:50 mark – the previously teased Death Egg Robot boss battle.
Check out the footage while you can, as we don’t expect it to stay on YouTube for long if SEGA sees it.

We’re just 2 days away from Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1‘s 1 year anniversary on the Xbox 360’s Xbox Live Arcade service and it seems SEGA’s celebrating early with a 400 MSP discount from 1200 MSP to 800 MSP. Currently, we don’t know whether this is a temporary or permanent discount, as SEGA’s not said anything about this price cut on their blog or social media outlets, but we’ll update when we know more.
You can grab the game over at Xbox.com and put it in your download queue or download it directly from your Xbox 360 console.
