Update: “It’s a glitch” Sonic 4’s Website is Down, Speculation is Up.

Sonic-4-Episode-2

Update: According to our resident tech guru Bmn, It’s a glitch. What’s specifically happening is a recurring loop of redirects between www.sonicthehedgehog4.com/us and www.sega.com/sonic4, which suggests minor technical problem. But still, to leave it like that for nearly a week? So there you have it.

Original Story: Regardless as to what you may think of the game. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 happened, it’s still for sale on several online services and is far from what you would consider to be an old game.

So why then has the official website been taken down and why has it remained offline for the best part of a week? SSMB member -Bender- first noticed that the site had gone dark a few days ago and whilst sometimes sites can go down for a day or two, this site has been offline for nearly a week if not longer.

Click the read more link… and let your imagination run wild…

SEGA Launches Official EU & US Sonic Generations Website

SEGA has today finally launched an official Sonic Generations website for Europe and the US. Unfortunately, right now there is nothing new to be found apart from three new screenshots of City Escape, Rooftop Run and Seaside Hill in the home console version of the game. There is plenty of content locked out to look forward to until the game’s release, though.

We’ll keep tabs on the website and update you when new content is revealed.

You can check out the new screenshots below.

Thanks to Woun and frokenok3 at the SSMB for the heads up!

Sonic Free Riders Website: Characters & Tracks Update

Sonic Free Riders is out for Xbox 360 Kinect in the U.S. tomorrow, so SEGA has given a big update to the game’s official website. Shadow, Silver, Eggman, E-10000G, Metal Sonic, Blaze, Amy, Cream, Rouge and Vector have been added to the characters section with new artwork and profiles, while the tracks section has now been unlocked with Dolphin Resort, Rocky Ridge, Frozen Forest, Metropolis Speedway, Magma Rift and Forgotten Tomb on display. The Final Factory and Metal City tracks revealed in the Achievements list are nowhere to be seen at the moment, but we do get a look at the alternate expert map of each of the tracks, along with an image and description of each one. Finally, SEGA have also added a voice command guide to the site for you to download.

The character artwork is available below:

Sonic Free Riders U.S./EU Website Opens Characters Section

SEGA has today opened the characters section of the U.S. and European official Sonic Free Riders website, revealing new artwork, small profiles and a new music track from the game. The only characters unlocked at the moment are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Jet, Wave and Storm, but the website states more are “Coming Soon”. Thanks to Gamespot’s exclusive demonstration of the final build, we currently know of 17 characters, which include Metal Sonic, Vector and a blue E-series robot likely called E-10000B that are new entries to the series, so we can expect plenty more profiles to be featured on the site.

Check out the rest of the new artwork below:

Sonic Free Riders Website Now Live, Release Dates Announced

SEGA has launched an official website for Sonic Free Riders, SEGA’s first Xbox 360 Kinect title and along with it they announced the official release dates for the game. As expected, Sonic Free Riders will launch alongside Kinect on November 4th in the U.S. and November 10th in Europe.

There’s currently nothing on the website that you won’t have already seen before, apart from some hi-res character art spotted around the site, but it does have a cool feature that lets you navigate the entire site with your webcam, much like how you can navigate the Xbox 360 dashboard and in-game menus with Kinect. The characters, tracks and videos sections of the website are currently locked, but are labelled ‘Coming Soon’. We’ll keep an eye open for the websites updates and bring you anything new that appears.

SonictheHedgehog4.com Launches

So now we’ve all thoroughly enjoyed the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 reveal, let’s explore the other thing that was launched today – the official Sonic the Hedgehog 4 website. Sega are really milking the whole ‘drip-feed’ philosophy here, and that translates well to the official website, which has loads and loads of information sections… locked out.

Yes, the plan is to open more pages over time to maintain interest. Nothing wrong with that, really – curiously, many sections come locked with a countdown timer across where you would expect the link to be. Here are the times of the supposed reveals, and the headers they come under;

  • Game Info: Friday 5th February, 11am GMT
  • Characters: Tuesday 9th February, 11am GMT
  • Concept Art: Thursday 11th February, 10am GMT
  • Multimedia: Thursday 18th February, 11am GMT

There’s also a secret regarding a fourth platform. Sonic 4 is already confirmed for WiiWare, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade. What could the fourth platform (or service be)? It could very well be a PC distribution platform such as Steam, but Sega could just as easily be planning a handheld version for the PSP or something. Looks like it’s for the Apple iPhone. Who knew?

Besides the teases, everything on the website seems to be what we know already – 9/9/09 teaser trailer, badnik concept art and all. Stick with us and have a party when each of these sections get revealed – I know we’ll all be huddled around a computer until the time. Will you?

Oddities: Sonic Unleashed Renamed In Japan

Probably because they’d pronounce it “Un-reashed” and that would just be silly, SEGA Japan has taken it upon itself to rename Sonic’s latest outing for Asian territories.

There were massive rumours that the game had suffered a name change – heavily debunked by SEGA Europe, with the explanation that World Adventure was merely a work-in-progress title. Turns out nobody keeps each other informed in the land of SEGA, and now we have semi-confirmation (semi because it is Japan only after all) in the form of a new official website.

There’s really not a lot else going on with the website, so don’t expect waves of information. But if you’d like an updated Sonic Un… World Adventure experience check it out. The website does look very nice though.

Sega re-designs its website

Sega have released a brand spanking new UK website. The website has a glossy white look to it and changes backgrounds to suit the game your currently looking at. The site is also alot simpler and easy to use than the old European site. Best of all the website loads quicker.

Sonic City, the European official Sonic site which has been completely down for a while has now updated with a maintennance message so that may be up again soon. The Sega Blogs, including the Sonic Blognik, are also down at the moment. Could this be something Sega are going to officially unveil at their gamer day?

You can check out the new Sega UK website at www.sega.co.uk

UPDATE: Sega have also released a new version of the U.S. site aswell as other regions sites too that look’s the same as the new UK one. Thanks to Dr. SEGA Monkey at the SSMB for the tip.

Sega Superstars Tennis site updates

Sega Europe have updated the Sega Superstars Tennis official game site. You can now view the Characters and Movies sections. The U.S. version of the site has not been updated yet. Characters revealed so far are Sonic, Beat, NiGHTS, Ulala, AiAi, Amigo and Dr. Eggman. Each characters page contains official artwork for that character. The other 9 characters have a question mark over them.

The Movies section contains the Intro movie(which is the first CG trailer shown), a Gameplay movie, Scrap Brain Zone (Eggmans stage with name now confirmed), Chu Chu Rocket and Space Harrier. You can also view a preview movie with Steve Lycett, Producer at Sumo Digital over at Videogamer.com. Steve tells us all about the features in every version of the game.

Sega Superstars Tennis will be released in Europe 20th March 2008 and shipped in the U.S. March 18th 2008.

Sega Superstars Tennis website is LIVE

ArchangelUK has presented the European website to the much aniticipated game Sega Superstars Tennis. There’s not much on there now but AAUK promises more features like full character profiles will be implemented soon.

The most interesting feature listed on the site is the ‘Story’ section which isn’t active at the moment and the most pleasing news on the site is its revelation that the game will now be released in Europe on the 20th March instead of the originally sheduled date of the 28th March.

ArchangelUK also announced that he will be putting up half of an overview of the Xbox 360 Achievements list soon.

UPDATE: Japanese Sonic Riders 2 Site Updates

The official Japanese Sonic Riders: Shooting Star Story website has updated with three new characters.

Now added to the Characters page are Dr. Eggman, Nights, and “Emy” (lol, Engrish). We of course knew about Nights already, but it’s nice to have Amy and Eggman confirmed, and with some spiffy new CG art, too.

I’ll keep checking the site for more updates as the launch date draws near.

12/19/07 EDIT: Profiles of Shadow, Rouge, and Cream added as of yesterday. Also added is a new Extreme Gear section, which features previously-unseen Wheel and Yacht Gear types and what appears to be a listing of power-ups.

Sega Europe have today released the long awaited official Sonic site Sonic City. NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams website now online

Last night, Sega opened the official NiGHTS: JoD website. It’s the usual stuff that’s there at the moment: A story synopsis, game features, screenshots, and videos.

One particularly interesting item, though, is a section called “History”, giving information about the original NiGHTS on the Saturn. It mentions the game’s huge fanbase and appearances on “best of” lists, and the “Christmas NiGHTS” expansion pack. There’s even a nod to the diehard fans who kept requesting a sequel all these years!

More information is forthcoming. Stay tuned…

EDIT: Yes, it is “Journey OF Dreams”. Crap. Please don’t flog me, Dreadknux! Anyway, fixed.

Sonic and the Secret Rings Japanese site update

The Japanese site of Sonic and the Secret of the Rings has had a major update! They’ve released new info, new artwork, and much more new.

I realize many of you can’t read Japanese, so let me translate some of the highlights. The story is still about the same as we know; Sonic one day falls asleep while reading Arabian Nights, and awakes to meet a dijjin named Shahra. She tells him of an evil dijjin named Erazer, who is erasing the tales of Arbain Nights. It’s up to Sonic to stop him, for he was destined to by legend. Plus, if he doesn’t, Erazer will come to his world to wreak havoc. Sonic agrees and goes off to Arabian Nights! But when he enters the world, he encounters Erazer fairly early. Erazer calls Sonic a rat, then sends a fire arrow straight into Sonic’s heart. The arrow is slowly killing Sonic, but at the same time with Sharha’s help, Sonic can control the fire to his advantage. The only way to put out the flame is to defeat Erazer. Continue reading Sonic and the Secret Rings Japanese site update

SatSR website up, new Ogawa interview

New Sonic art... Sonic's such a poser.

Sonic and the Secret Rings American site has finally gone up revealing lots of new info about the game, including story, minigames, and unlockables.

The story is simple, Sonic is laying down after reading his copy of Arabian Nights, but falls asleep. He wakes up to discover a mysterious genie named Shahra in front of him. She tells him she is the genie of the ring, and tells him of an evil genie named Erazer who is- get this -erasing the pages of Arabian Nights. If he succeeds in his goal, Erazer will break free of the book and become free in Sonic’s world, likely continuing his role as the backside of a pencil in the real world. Sonic agrees to Shahra’s pleas and enters the world of Arabian Nights on top of a magical carpet. Continue reading SatSR website up, new Ogawa interview

Sonic Rivals official European site launched

SEGA of Europe have launched their official site for the Playstation portable game Sonic Rivals this week. A fair warning however, the site is in Flash.

The site features many screenshots, 3 interesting movies of gameplay features in this amazing looking game and much information, including the names of each of the race courses and profiles for each of the 4 main characters; Sonic the hedgehog, Shadow the hedgehog, Silver the hedgehog and Knuckles the echidna.

According to the site, the names of the 6 race courses or “Zones” as the site refers to them as (Perhaps a nod to the earlier 2D games in the series and Sonic heroes) are Zone 1 – Forest falls, Zone 2 – Colosseum highway, Zone 3 – Sky park, Zone 4 – Crystal mountain, Zone 5 – Death yard and Zone 6 – Meteor base. 4 bosses of 4 of the zones have also been revealed.

The Egg turtle will be the boss of Forest falls zone, Egg falcon shall be the boss of colosseum highway zone, the Egg lynx will be the boss of crystal mountain zone and the Egg kong is presumed to be the boss of death yard zone. Each have been created by the evil villain Dr Eggman and not only does the player have to land the finishing blow on the contraption to win, he also has to stave off his rivals in order to accomplish this! For all of your characters rivals shall be present and trying to defeat Dr Eggman himself.

Many thanks to Sonic1985 of the SSMB forums for the tip off!

Sonic and the Secret Rings JPN Site Open

The Nintendo Wii title, Sonic and the secret of the rings has had it”s japanese site opened today! You can visit the new site (Be warned, it is in flash) through the link in the “MORE INFORMATION” Box at the bottom of this page. Also of note is that the game’s japanese title is to be “”SONIC to Himitsu no RING”

A newly revealed official render show that Sonic himself is wearing an odd glowing ring on the middle finger of his right hand. It is unknown exactly what this plain yet mysterious looking piece of jewelry is or what it does but one can safely assume that it has a big link to the storyline of the game that is due out some time in 2007.

In other somewhat related news, the gaming site IGN have updated their Sonic and the secret of the rings site with new screenshots of the game in action (Follow the link road in the “DOWNLOADABLE MEDIA” box at the bottom of this page). Adorning the bottom left hand corner of the recent screenshots is a small image depicting the control scheme of the game. Whether or not it is showing the player what to press on the Wii”s controller is anyone’s guess but it seems feasible….

Sonic the Hedgehog site updated, trailer released

Thats right, folks. The website for Sonic’s big next gen title, aptly named “Sonic the Hedgehog”, has seen a huge make over, with new info to boot. You can access the website here.

The site is entirely in Japanese, and may have some trouble loading. If you have trouble loading pages, just reload the page and everything should work.

With the complete redesign of the website, comes some interesting new info. Firstly, it is now confirmed (via ambiguous sillohoutte outlinings) that Knuckles, Tails, Blaze, Omega, Rouge, and Amy WILL be in the game. But judging by the size and placement of the pics, they will not be playable. Continue reading Sonic the Hedgehog site updated, trailer released

Sega Europe unleashes Shadow site

A brief piece of Sonic news here:

Sega of Europe has unveiled their European ‘Shadow the Hedgehog’ website. Unlike pervious EU Sonic sites this one is identical to that of its US counterpart, the only difference being the PEGI game rating, and a link to ‘Sonic City’.

The notification came in the form of an email that was sent to those who had signed up to Sonic City. The email contained an advertisement for the game (the first of the Shadow promotions in Europe) which when clicked upon, linked to the European Shadow site. Sega interviews Masato Nakamura

Sega of Japan conducted an interview with Masato Nakamura of the Japanese band: ‘Dreams Come True’. Dreams Come True has been a popular band in Japan for some time now, their second album: ‘The Swinging Star’ (released November 14, 1992) was the first to sell over 3 million copies in Japan.

But even before Dreams Come True’s success one company realised the bands potential, and that company was Sega. Sega employed Masato Nakamura to compose the music for ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ and then again for ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’. In return SEGA offered sponsorship to Dreams Come True, and Sega began promoting Sonic through them.

Sega of America have translated that interview, and it gives an interesting insight to the development of the games soundtrack. It’s interesting to note that while Masato was composing music for both Sonic 1 and Sonic 2, he was also recording the Dreams Come True albums: ‘Million Kisses’ and ‘The swinging Star’, which would explain why certain songs from each album were inspired by themes from the game. For instance the song ‘Sweet Sweet Sweet’ from the album ‘The Swinging Star’ is a lyrical interpretation of the ending theme from Sonic 2.

The interview is as follows: Continue reading Sega interviews Masato Nakamura

Update: StH & Rush, US StH site launched

SEGA/Sonic Team has updated their Japanese Sonic sites. Now in addition to the original content, the Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Rush websites contain two new trailers.

So many have expressed their irritation toward a problem with SEGAs’ Japanese downloads. These Japanese video files exhibit an occuring problem. It seems that most computers have trouble connecting with the servers, so don’t expect the downloads to work.

Sonic Riders Official Web Page Online

When Sonic Riders appeared from nowhere just days ago many were rightfully suspicious of the authenticity of these claims coming in think and fast from around the web. It wasn’t to long before scans of the original Famitsu article hit the web, and much to the delight or shock of many fans, Sonic Riders was indeed real and not too far away.

The latest tidbit in the developing Sonic Riders story comes today with Sonic Team’s launch of their official home page for this title, presumably to coincide with the upcoming Tokyo Game Show. At the moment content is a little thin, only a short synopsis of the game (In Japanese) and 14 screenshots, many of which were published in the original Famitsu article.

Also, while you are visiting Sonic Team’s page, be sure to take a look at the Puyo Pop Fever page, which was updated earlier this week with some more details of the soon to be released Puyo Pop Fever 2.

Be sure to stay with SONIC NEWS for more Sonic Riders updates as they occur.

Most likely with some kind of ‘Phantastical’ (sorry) properties. Or (even more likely) a sort of organisation in the game story. Continue reading Phantasy Star Universe website updated
