So finally we have a little bit of extra news as a follow-up to the game’s announcement the other day, the rental site GameFly, which commonly lists info on unannounced games which turn out to be correct, have just put up the listings of Rio 2016 for Wii U and 3DS, and indicate that just like Sochi 2014 before it, Nintendo is back to publish Rio 2016 in NA (and likely EU), as opposed to Sega who published the first three games in the west. Nintendo has published every entry in Japan to date.
Now what’s REALLY puzzling, is that GameFly lists the Wii U version as TBD (to be determined), but the 3DS version for December 31st 2016. Dates on any site are always likely to not be final until confirmed by the publisher, but also, London 2012 did come out a bit later on 3DS than on Wii, missing the 2011 holiday season, likely to avoid releasing with Generations 3DS? Who knows. But that’s all we got so far!
When more comes, we’ll post it!

Hello again! 🙂 Over the past while I’ve made lookbacks covering two Sonic games on Nintendo systems, specifically Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity and Sonic Unleashed, both for Wii, and I thought, you know what, why don’t I just cover the whole history? Of course, the opinions in this article reflect my own thoughts and may not reflect the thoughts of the other Staff members. With that, let’s start from the very beginning…

Although SEGA suggested previously that the 3D classics line for Nintendo 3DS would be closing with Thunderblade, a further three 3D Classic titles have been confirmed by SEGA to be on the horizon.
At this time, the third set in the series only contains 3 titles. One title in particular however is certainly of interest to TSS; Sonic 2! That’s right, that means 3D special stages!
The other two games are the aforementioned Streets of Rage 2 (due in July) and Gunstar Heroes (due in August). Sonic 2 will be out in September. All will be priced at MSRP $5.99/€4.99/£4.49
Are you excited for Sonic 2 or perhaps the other two games? Have you bought any of the previous games yet? Let us know!
Update: We also have screens and transparent logos for you all!

Stephen Frost kindly paid our forum a visit today to elaborate on why Sonic Boom hasn’t been booming over the past few months since the unveiling. Here’s his whole post:
I’ve been asked to chime in a bit here so I’ll do what I can to share some info with you all. I’ve said it a few times in the past, but there were key reasons why we announced the Sonic Boom initiative when we did. Along with that, there are a lot of partners involved with Sonic Boom so we have to be mindful of their timelines and requirements for their respective fields. It’s not just about a game anymore… This is a large group effort so any announcements and information shared publically needs to really be planned and organized carefully. We need to make sure that things we reveal don’t impact other parts and vice versa.
I completely appreciate the fact that you fans are hungry for info specific to the games, I really do. And that’s why we all work these endless late nights and weekends… It’s to get all the pieces in place for when the campaign does really kick off. We still have a ways until the cartoon and game launch, as well as the new toy line, so we need to pace all the info appropriately. And it all starts as we head into E3. You’ll learn more, for sure, but not everything. And the reveal of new assets and info should be more frequent from that point on. But trust me when I say there is no lack of effort by anyone involved with Sonic Boom. This is, by far, the biggest united effort I have personally ever seen Sega be involved in. We want to share everything with everyone because we are so excited… We just can’t… Yet.
So, please be a bit more patient. I’m working on screens and commenting on releases so stuff is coming. We will even have a bit of a surprise in there for you, as well as the first info and assets for the 3DS version. There is quite a bit of cool stuff ahead so hang in there.
So there you have it, it shouldn’t be much longer. I can’t wait to see what Sega brings to the table at E3!

Sega just yesterday put out a new trailer for Hero Bank, Sega’s new RPG for the 3DS which just came out in Japan on March 20, 2014. At the very beginning of the trailer, you can hear the remix of a certain song, instantly familiar to those who played Sonic Adventure.
Give up? It’s Twinkle Park! We don’t know exactly who the composer is (hell we have little info on what folks were behind the game or if it was even outsourced to an external company), all we know if that it was produced by Toshihiro Nagoshi, the man behind Yakuza and Super Monkey Ball.

The following is a ginormous pic of Bob Rafei and the board full of concept art from Sonic Boom as seen in an earlier video, but this capture might be a proper photograph as it is way too high resolution to be a snippet from a video. At the moment we have no true source of the picture. But nevertheless, it’s here and for you all to see!
Click the image for the full 3000×2000 version!
One of the most interesting characters shown is what appears to be Marine from Sonic Rush Adventure making her comeback.
My boomerang’s a little Ty’d up at the moment…
Not only do the colors and the patterns match up, but she is also stereotypically carrying a boomerang and she did speak in an Australian accent before.
Another character, is what appears to be a robot that looks to have very similar features to Emerl, last (and only seen) in Sonic Battle (not counting Gemerl’s appearance in Sonic Advance 3).
God dammit Mad Doctor, we didn’t need to turn Emerl into a Beetleworx!
While we don’t have a definite source for the image, we have Eitarou and A Real Human Bean to thanks in our forum for finding (Eitarou) and posting the full image (A Real Human Bean). We also have an adjusted (albeit smaller) shot of the pic by Storme Prince so you don’t have to strain your eyes as much.
We had to cut corners to bring you this piece, we apologize.

SEGA Nerds have put up a video webcam interview with Stephen Frost that explores more about Sonic Boom. There’s some more insight on the 3DS version, as well as more talk about the beginnings, the show, and what not.
There are also code giveaways in the video itself (Stephen shows them on a piece of paper) for 3D Classics Sonic the Hedgehog for 3DS, but I think it’s safe to say they’ve been long taken by now. 😛

In the consumer business, although the Group launched multiple titles including “Football Manager 2014” and “Sonic Lost World” in the packaged game software field, sales were low due to the harsh market environment.
Sega have confirmed in their newly published Financial Earnings report that the Wii U and 3DS exclusive title Sonic Lost World has shipped 640,000 copies worldwide as of December 31st. Sega also shipped 680,000 copies of Football Manager 2014 on PC in Europe and NA, while the Japan-only Soccer Tsuku: Let’s Make a Pro Soccer Club managed to ship 200,000 copies on PS3 and Vita.

From the moment of its official unveiling, Sonic Lost World was poised to drift away from certain standards of games past, making this new title one of the most anticipated games of the year. Gone was the Boost, making way for a fusion of Genesis-era gameplay and parkour-inspired controls! Although, while eyes were certainly glued to any and all information of the Wii U release, many questions arose concerning the Nintendo 3DS version that would surely follow, especially with it being the first ever 3D handheld Sonic game. With Dimps once again behind the wheel, has the Osaka-based developer crafted a solid Sonic handheld experience with its first venture into 3D territory, or has this game only met with 3 dimpmensions of sorry expectations? Does Sonic Lost World 3DS stand on its own apart from Sonic Lost World Wii U, or does it fall short of grabbing that ledge and fall straight down? Let’s dive right into the mellow and find out!

This weeks UK game sales charts are in, courtesy of GFK Chart track, and Sonic Lost World is the top selling Wii U game. Lost World debuted at #1 in the Wii U only chart, ahead of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and Skylanders Swap Force, which was also released Friday. In the 3DS chart, Sonic Lost World entered at #4, being beaten by Nintendo’s own Pokémon X/Y and Animal Crossing: New Leaf. However, Sonic’s latest narrowly missed the top 10 all-formats chart, placing 11th behind Disney Infinity at #10.
We’ll see how Sonic Lost World fares next week with a full week of sales behind it.

With Sonic Lost World now available in Europe, SEGA has put out one last trailer for each version to showcase Sonic’s latest adventure on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. As you’d expect, Sonic and Eggman sure don’t sound happy about having to work together.

Thanks to Nintendo Life, the file sizes to the digital editions of Sonic Lost World have been revealed, and I’m warning you right away: this game’s been dreaming of pounding your sorry storage device. Those hoping to go digital for either the 3DS or Wii U versions, take note of the following!
For 3DS owners, Sonic Lost World will be clocking in at around 1.25GB. To those curious, standard Nintendo 3DSes come with 2GB SD cards, and XLs already have 4GB ones loaded into the system, so if you’re hoping to go digital, now would be the time to invest in a bigger memory card.
Not that the Wii U version is any better, with the file size going for a massive 8.37GB. Owners of the Basic Edition might as well go for the retail disc or get an external hard drive, while those with the Deluxe Edition might not be better off what with a decent chunk of their console’s memory used up. Another downside, the Deadly Six Edition appears to be retail-only (thank you Parax for the heads-up!)!
What do you plan to go for? Are you picking up your game in the shops or waiting for the midnight digital release? Let us know down below!

Above you, we have the North American version of the extended Deadly Six Trailer, showing off the Sonic Lost World antagonists in action… but there’s bad news bears for some.
While this doesn’t affect the October 18th release for eager European fans, SEGA of America has pushed the North American version of the game by another week, widening the gap between both regional releases. This purportedly makes it the last version of the game to be sold on retail, with Australia still getting their mits on Sonic’s Nintendo-exclusive adventure on the 19th Japan still receiving it on the 24th.
That clocks the North American street date of Sonic Lost World to October 29th instead of the previous October 22nd date. Just a quick heads-up before you head into Gamestop to pick up your Deadly Six Edition of the game!

Hear ye, hear ye! Freshly baked Sonic Lost World footage straight from the Tokyo Game Show! Watch it while it’s hot!
As we have reported last week, Sonic’s upcoming Nintendo-exclusive venture was to receive a 45 minute presentation during SEGA’s TGS 2013 showcase earlier today. With viewers from all over gathering at the Nico Nico-based livestream, Sonic fans everywhere were ready for the extensive preview held by representatives of SEGA of Japan, including Lost World producer Takashi Iizuka and the game’s Sound Director, Tomoya Ohtani.
The showcase, to the dismay of some, comprised mostly of pre-existing information and video, but one juicy tidbit did satisfy many others, and that is previously unseen video footage of the Tropical Coast stage, featuring the Yellow Drill, a controllable mech, and more! Sea for yourself!

Sonic Generations 3DS is now up for grabs on the digital market! North American 3DS owners can purchase the handheld edition of the 20th anniversary title for $29.99 via the Nintendo eShop, as announced via SEGA’s Twitter earlier today.
The Blue Adventure version features an entirely different set of stages and bosses, save for Green Hill and the Rival bosses, and an online multiplayer mode compared to its White Spacetime counterpart, so to those who’ve been on the fence on picking up Gen3DS should be pleased to know that they can now pick it up from the comfort of their living room!

Via Japanese magazine Famitsu, we have lots of new screenshots of the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Lost World. In this latest batch we see the Red Burst Wisp returns and we also are introduced to two new Wisp powers Grey Quake and Ivory Lightning. The Grey Quake Wisp sees Sonic transform into an iron ball which you move around with the gyro sensor of the 3DS. According to a rough Google translation, you can infinitely climb walls in this state and dive off of them to destroy enemies with the shock on landing, thus the name Grey Quake.
The Ivory Lightning Wisp gives Sonic the power to quickly ram enemies and obstacles in succession. A rough Google translation says Sonic will also be able to pass through wires in this state.
The Red Burst Wisp gives Sonic the same powers as in Sonic Colours for Nintendo DS. In this form, Sonic can fly/hop around in the air and charge blasts of energy to destroy surrounding enemies.

Hot off of IGN, an extensive amount of gameplay footage of Sonic Lost World has surfaced along with some additional information about the game. That’s right, footage as in both Wii U and 3DS versions got previewed!
For the Wii U edition, “Support Mode” will see to that a second player will assist in destroying badniks and obstacles via a “Radio Controlled Gadget” invented by Tails, utilized through the Wii Remote.
For the 3DS version, SLW has Dimps once again returning in the handheld version development and will feature level design different to that of its home console counterpart. In addition, up to four players can race against one another in Versus Mode both locally and online. Connectability to the Wii U game has also been hinted with players to be able to share items.

In a press release regarding yesterday’s Sonic Lost World updates, Nintendo Germany has revealed that all three Nintendo exclusive Sonic games will be released this year. That includes Sonic Lost World for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games for Wii U and the unannounced third title.
The portion of the press release containing this information reads:
Today, they (Sega) revealed further details of the second of three titles, which the two companies will release exclusively on Wii U and 3DS. All three games will be released this year.
With the third title being released the same year as the other two games, could it be a spin-off? A small digital game? Hopefully we’ll find out soon.
