Looks like we’ve got more Sonic plushes coming from Great Eastern Entertainment, the same company that released an Infinite plush last year. Their website recently listed a bunch of new plushes of various Sonic characters, including Emerl, Mephiles the Dark, and Whisper. While this is the first time all three characters have been made into toys, Whisper’s inclusion is especially notable, as she is the first IDW creation to receive merchandise outside of some minor collectible like pins. Both the Whisper and Emerl plushes are also listed as being 10 inches tall.
Currently, none of these plushes have a release date, price, or even an image, though it seems likely we’ll get news soon. Stay tuned for more info!

As JAKKS Pacific renew their Sonic the Hedgehog licence into 2022, the company has announced that Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s Mecha Sonic will finally be getting a figure incarnation!
Evidence appeared earlier in the year this figure was getting a release, however many speculated it might have been another Metal Sonic figure. A classic Eggman and laughing Sonic will also be joining the classic figure range.

After last month’s announcement of Sonic: The Card Game, Steamforge Games has revealed further details about the game and its box art. The boxed product is expected to launch in September, 2021 at a suggested price of $19.95, £14.99, and €17.95.
The 20-30 minute game allows 2-6 players to play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, or Blaze, as the deck produces a level for the characters to race through. While no specific mechanics have been revealed, Steamforge implies there will be some form of press-your-luck element, stating, “Each time a new card is placed, they must decide whether to keep racing to try and grab a bigger pot of rings, or to retire and collect their share of the rings and bonus cards on the table. If players keep racing, they risk running into enemies and losing lives, but the chance to win more rings and bonus cards could be tempting enough to keep racing on.”
Steamforge Games‘ previously published works include board game versions of Dark Souls, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Resident Evil 2, PAC-MAN, and Ni no Kuni II. Expect a detailed review when the game launches later this year.

We may live in a capitalist dystopia, but at least we have a meat and chili dog-flavored GFUEL energy drink…inspired by Sanic. Yes, the badly drawn Sonic meme.
I’m not even sure how to report on this, because when I first saw it, I thought it was a joke. But then I read the tweet, and discovered that not only is this not a joke, but it’s a thing that a company invested R&D into, will be manufacturing, and distributing to actual, real people, who will have the privilege(?) of drinking it.
They gave no release date, though they are giving away free bundles of the stuff to anyone who retweets the below tweet with the hashtag “GFUELSanic.” So if you want to actually try this stuff, or add it to your collection, that’s one way to do it.
🌀GIVEAWAY + WAITLIST🌀
This is not an #AprilFools joke. This is #GFUEL "CHILI DOGS" Flavor. The peak of @SEGA technology. A MEAT + CHILI DOG flavor inspired by SANIC's fav snack. 🌭
💙 Quote RT with the hashtag #GFUELSanic to win a bundle!
And yes, the tone of this article is different, on purpose, because this doesn’t deserve my usual dry, fact-filled reporting style. Also, we have nothing planned for April Fools Day this year, so this is the closest you all are getting!

Following the 2019 release of two IDW tabletop games, one Hasbro game, and the Shinobi 7 Kickstarter game, Sonic once again returns to tabletops in 2021 with Sonic The Card Game.
While we do not have any details on the game as of yet following the company’s Game Manufacturers Association preview, the blog describes the project as a “competitive card racing game where you’ll collect power-ups and rings to win.” Expect the game to launch this calendar year.

Ever wanted to make Jimmy Buffet classic “Cheeseburger in Paradise” play out of a Sonic thing? Or how about “Defying Gravity” from the Broadway musical hit Wicked? Maybe “Crazy Noisey Bizarre Town,” objectively the best Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure anime opening? Well good news, because now you can play these and more from a new Sonic plush currently only available in Mexico!
Images for this plush have been slowly circulating online, but our source is twitter account @SONICJENNY, who also seems to have the most images. This new Sonic plush and speaker features Bluetooth capability with a range of ten feet, as well as an audio cable input, a USB port, and an SD cart slot, so you’ll be able to play music on it with just about anything. Going by SONICJENNY’s twitter thread, the plush is around a foot long, has speakers in its feet, and sells for around $50. Check out the images below:
As of this writing, we are not aware of any way to obtain this plush online, as it seems to only be available via physical stores in Mexico. Even the manufacturer does not appear to be obvious from the packaging.
Hopefully, this plush will eventually be available elsewhere, so we can all enjoy the 1986 hit “Rock Me Amadeus” by Falco through a cute Sonic plush doll.

The results for that round were announced in September 2020…except for the Sonic Mania design, which required further review for the team to determine if it could be made or not. This meant an extra four months to wait to find out its fate.
Now the September 2020 results have been announced, and it has also been revealed that the Sonic Mania design has finally been approved! This means that it will go through LEGO’s own designers to see if there are any changes or improvements they want to make to the design before putting it in production, then it will hit store shelves where you can add LEGO Sonic to your collection (especially if you missed out on the LEGO Dimensions level pack way back in 2016).
A huge congratulations to Toastergrl, who I imagine must be chuffed about her idea being made a reality given her history with both Sonic and LEGO. Everyone else might want to leave some money aside to pick this up when this becomes available!
As of now, it is unknown when the finalised set will be revealed and released. But as soon as we get word from LEGO, we’ll be sure to let you know!

Funko has given us our first look at what they have in store for Sonic’s anniversary next year: new Silver and classic Sonic figurines. The regular versions of these figurines will be available exclusively at FYE for $12 each. Meanwhile, special editions of these figures are exclusive to two other retailers: the “flocked” (or fuzzy) version of Classic Sonic will be sold exclusively at Funko’s own online store, while the Glow in the Dark version of Silver will only be found at Hot Topic.
According to the 30th anniversary merchandise announcement last week, we have much more, including a Tails figure, in store.
Check out all four figures below:

The second wave of Jakks Pacific 7” Sonic plushes, which the company first revealed last year, is finally starting to make its way to stores. Although the plushes were supposed to hit stores on July 29, they have been hard to come by so far. They’ve mostly been appearing at online retailers like Toywiz, ToyZany, and eBay at inflated prices of between $20-$40 (for reference, the MSRP is $10.99).
These plushes are slowly beginning to appear at brick and mortar retailers…at least in the UK. Sonic youtuber Dave Luty was able to get his hands on a Mighty plush, which he posted pictures of on Twitter. Check them out in the embedded tweet below:
Mighty the Armadillo plushies are now in the UK!
This one is currently hanging out in my garden, because he likes the flowers. pic.twitter.com/aAdHiHgfDS
According to Luty, his store only had the one. Given the high prices for these plushes elsewhere, it would appear that availability is pretty limited, at least for now. With a third wave that also includes Mighty slated for September, hopefully they will become more available soon. I know some of us, myself included, have been waiting 25 years for a Mighty plush, and that wait may be coming to an end soon.
For an up close look at the new Mighty, Amy Rose, and Super Sonic plushes, check out the gallery below:
