Sonic Superstars looks absolutely gorgeous. We should know, we said it. But that’s on the most powerful hardware – if you’re wondering whether the game also looks great on the Nintendo Switch, we now know the answer is ‘yes’, kinda.
The first still images of Classic Sonic’s latest outing running on Nintendo’s hybrid gaming console have arrived, and you can take a gander for yourself below.
Now, it clearly doesn’t look as sharp as its PS5 or Xbox cousins, but that is often the case with Nintendo Switch versions of cross-platform games. But at least the colour, character and charm doesn’t seem to have been impacted.
As with most things of this nature, it’s best to wait until we can see the Switch version moving and in action. Sometimes these lower-IQ situations aren’t as noticeable while actually playing. In the meantime, what do you think?

They say that a work of art tends to be a reflection of the thoughts and feelings of the artist who made it. If that’s the case, then Sonic Team has been a studio seemingly crushed with anxiety for the last five years, because Sonic Frontiers is a game uncharacteristically drenched in melancholy, introspection and sadness.
From the wistful empty fields and abandoned temples of Kronos Island, to the hauntingly isolationist undertones of the soundtrack and even the narratives driving Sonic and his friends (no spoilers here, don’t worry), there’s something strangely unsettling about the vibe of Sonic Frontiers.

In the September 13th, 2022 Nintendo Direct, Sonic Frontiers (seemingly the Switch version) made an 8-second appearance… but only in the Japanese version for some reason. I’ve taken the liberty of cropping and uploading the clip by itself onto YouTube for your easy viewing pleasure above.
Also, it was never shared here, but Nintendo actually uploaded some screenshots of the Switch version on their various eShop pages earlier (such as on the NA page). I’ve placed them below:

Being a Sonic fan in a Nintendo world is tough. Especially in Nintendo Switch brawler Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where playing as the blue blur has always felt a little… held back. The Genesis Mini and retail discounts may be over, but the deals have spilled out all over the Nintendo eShop for US players! For Sega’s 60th anniversary, they’ve reduced everything and I mean everything (though actually I mean nearly everything) for the Switch and 3DS, including Atlus titles. The sale runs through Oct. 5, so you’ve got two weeks to fill up on 3D Classics and Shin Megami Tensai games.

The double packs just doubled up! Following the earlier finding of a Sonic Mania + Team Sonic Racing Double Pack for Switch, this time retailer GameFly has put up the same listing, but also added a Sonic Forces + Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz – HD Double Pack for Switch as well. Sadly there is no accompanying box art this time, but the other pack’s box art will give you an idea of what to expect.
While the Sonic Mania + Team Sonic Racing pack is dated for October 26th, 2020 on Amazon for $39.99 USD, there’s no firm date yet for the Sonic Forces + Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz HD pack. However GameFly lists both for a placeholder October 31st, 2020 date. Perhaps both will release on the same day, possibly also for $39.99 USD?

If you’ve been following things, you may remember that this was leaked via a datamining of the game Ninjala for Nintendo Switch (these things tend to happen) where references to the Sonic franchise were found. Anyway, Ninjala makers GungHo finally revealed the existence of the collaboration with our fav blue Hedgehog. Only, that’s all for now! We’ll have to wait and see what the collaboration will actually be about. When that time comes, we’ll let you know!
Ninjala for those who don’t know is a free-to-play competitive action game that’s out right now worldwide exclusively on Nintendo Switch (from the director of Dissidia Final Fantasy on PSP, I am not kidding). So if you have a Switch, you can try it out now (find your regional store page on the official site) and see if it’s your thing, and it’ll hopefully give you an idea on what to expect from this collaboration.

So this just popped up. It’s been reported that Amazon.com now lists a double pack of Sonic Mania (the vanilla version it appears) and Team Sonic Racing for Switch. There aren’t any listings of the pack for other platforms yet upon checking. Also it’s not clear if this is yet another of those “put two boxes in a cardboard sleeve” type of releases that Sega do occasionally, as opposed to cramming both games into one cartridge/disc.

GungHo Online Entertainment‘s new free to play action game “Ninjala” has been data-mined by Twitter users LeanYoshi and Oatmeal Dome, and it reveals what looks to be future content involving Sonic the Hedgehog and friends!

It’s finally coming out, and bizarrely before a Japanese release date has been revealed. Sega just revealed that both Sega Ages Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Sega Ages Puyo Puyo Tsu are coming to both NA and EU on Feb 20th. Sega also opened up the western page for the game as seen here.
Earlier we covered that Sega Ages Sonic 2 will feature Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 built-in, as well as the Drop Dash ability (from Sonic Mania and Sega Ages Sonic 1), online rankings, plus the 3DS version’s Ring Keeper Mode and Super Sonic Mode.

After a VERY long absence since being revealed back in September 2018, Sega Ages: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has finally resurfaced via the newest issue of the Japanese magazine Famitsu! Sega has just released a Mario and Sonic at the Olympics Tokyo 2020 demo onto the Japanese E-Shop. The demo is in full English and contains seven events. Five from the normal, Olympic games and two from the Tokyo 1964 mode. The events include 110m Hurdles, Surfing, Karate, Badminton and Archery on the Olympics side, along with Long Jump and 10m Platform Diving on the 1964 side. You can play as Mario, Sonic, Bowser, and Dr, Eggman in the Olympic events or just Mario and Sonic in the 1964 events. You can also add an analog mode to the 1964 events to give it that CRT TV look.
Mario and Sonic at the Olympics Tokyo 2020 will be available on November 5th in the U.S. and November 8th in Europe.

In July, we reported on a trademark for a potential new game called “NiGHTS Dream Wheel” by SEGA. With the reveal of a new Nintendo peripheral called the “Ring-Con,” our minds are now flying in circles at the possibility that this could be related, and therefore, logic dictates that this would be a game made exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

While Sega of America did show off a great, new Mario and Sonic 2020 trailer, there was a bit left out. The Sega of Japan trailer seems to show off a lot more of the game. In the four-minute trailer, we get a sample of the 21 events in the main game, along with 10 events for the 1964 retro mode. Speaking of, the story mode is shown off a bit and appears to center around time travel as Mario, Sonic and a few of their friends end up in 1964 Tokyo. The trailer also shows off some of the dream events including a skating event through Metropolitan Highway from Sonic Forces. There’s even dream events in the 1964 mode as well, bringing the event count to well above 31!
This trailer’s got me hyped! Mario and Sonic at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games is starting to look like it could be the best one yet. Race to the store when it hits November 5th in the U.S. and November 8th in Europe on the Nintendo Switch.

Back at E3, SEGA hinted at a new “retro mode” for Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, but wouldn’t clarify anything beyond the brief clip we saw in the E3 trailer – today we finally have clarification! 10 events in the game will have alternate “Classic 2D Events” that utilize retro sprites and graphics, and take place during the 1964 Tokyo Olympics!

Nintendo at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany have announced that Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will release on November 5th in the US and on the 8th in Europe. It’s also up for pre-load right now on the EU & US eShops, clocking in at 6.3GB of space and costs 59.99€ / £49.99 / $59.99. It also supports the following languages; English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Italian, Dutch, and Russian.
Nintendo are also scheduled to release a new trailer for the game sometime today as well. We’ll be sure to post it as soon as they do!

As part of Nintendo’s E3 2019 Direct, we got a new look at Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games – Tokyo 2020 for Switch. We got to see new footage of numerous events, as well as the release month of November 2019.
Sega also opened the website for the game showcasing the numerous events they’ve announced so far, starting with four new ones:
– Surfing – Snow Board
– Karate – Kumite
– Sport Climbing
– Skateboarding – Park
Sega also confirmed numerous characters, all returning from the previous games so far. The website displays Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, and Bowser from the Mario series, and Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, Amy, and Eggman from Sonic’s series. However, others were shown in the trailer, including Donkey Kong and Silver.
Sega also confirmed the return of online multiplayer for the first time since Sochi 2014, though to what extent is not currently clear.
The trailer may also briefly features retro graphics for one of the events. Whether this is simply a flourish for the trailer, or a legitimate game mode is currently unknown.
