It’s time to party! Because it’s Sonic the Hedgehog’s birthday today! SEGA Japan has marked the occasion by sharing the latest artwork in its Sonic Pict series. And as you’d expect, the focus is on the birthday boy himself.
Staging a massive concert in the middle of Studiopolis Zone, Sonic is truly king for the day. And you can see many Sonic characters in the audience celebrating with him – Tails, Amy, Mighty and Ray are all rocking glowsticks and raving out with the blue blur.
SEGA Japan released this artwork with the following message (machine translated):
The highlight of this year’s birthday party is Sonic’s birthday live!
To thank you for always celebrating with us, we will perform a lively performance
Before I knew it, the studio police camera team had arrived, and the stage was getting more and more gorgeous…! The best night is coming!
Happy Birthday Sonic
Happy Birthday Sonic, indeed!

SEGA’s most downloaded mobile game just won’t quit! Sonic Dash has been the most frequently updated Sonic game on mobile devices, and that’s not changing anytime soon, as SEGA HARDlight announced on Twitter that they’re planning on celebrating Sonic’s Birthday, and a certain popular villain will be making an appearance!

Tomorrow, The Sonic Stadium will have officially served the online community for twelve years. Twelve years! It’s crazy to wonder where all that time has gone (actually, no – best not to wonder!). From the humblest of beginnings in a tiny little 20MB hosted Angelfire fansite, to the information resource of the late 2000s through to the news blog you see today, I hope you have all enjoyed what we’ve had to offer on TSS over the years, and I thank you all for your continued support!
I’m working on a couple of surprises that should be ready either this week or the next, but in the meantime there’s a few celebratory and visual things that can more than pass the time. I’m working on a new banner for the site, and aim to give the site a general decorating for tomorrow.
TitansCreed was kind enough to interview me to talk about the history of the website and how far it’s all come – the first part of that will come later today, with a second part tomorrow. There’s some more video content from the archives that I’d just love to drag up and show you guys too. Stay tuned for that!
Again, thank you so much for your support – we’re just a bunch of huge Sonic fans, like you are. Our official birthday is on October 24th, 2000. With TitansCreed’s interview kicking things off early, all that’s left to do is have something of a virtual toast to the site, the site staff, the forum and mods, SEGASonic Radio and its DJs, The Sonic Show (which is celebrating its sixth birthday at the moment), SEGADriven and its fantastic archive of SEGA info, and all of you who visit and help keep the site alive. Cheers!

Super Monkey Ball Banana Splitz for PlayStation Vita is set to receive its first piece of downloadable content in Japan in a couple of days time. Publisher SEGA will be releasing a Sonic statue on June 23rd to use in the game’s stage creation mode to commemorate the blue hedgehog’s 21st Birthday. Hopefully this item will be released outside of Japan when the game hits the rest of the world in October.

Founded and led by Tristan Oliver, the six-man team is known for covering and breaking several major stories, and sometimes the more controversial ones, from all corners of the SEGA community.
The Sonic Stadium wishes TSSZ a happy 13th birthday and all the best through the next year!

After suspicions were raised around the Sonic community regarding abnormalities in the voting patterns in SEGA’s Sonic 4 Birthday Contest, the company has suspended voting on the contest’s poll page. A statement says that SEGA has looked into the situation and confirmed the alleged abnormalities. More details are expected in a future update. SEGA’s statement from the contest’s website reads:
SEGA has been monitoring the voting patterns and discovered irregularities on July 16th. On review, we have confirmed the irregularities and have therefore suspended all voting. Please stay tuned for a more detailed update.
We’ll keep an eye out for that update and inform you of SEGA’s plans for the contest’s future. Voting for the contest was originally scheduled to end July 27th and the winners declared soon after. Where do you think SEGA should go from here? Let us know in the comments.

Thanks to everyone who tuned in to TSS’ Birthday special on The Sonic Hour. We ended up with a great show with some good atmosphere in the chatroom. You didn’t have to tune in to SSR to know who won, though; I have the list right here. Congratulations to the following peeps, in no particular order:
SKrown – Sonic Rivals 2 on PSP
Reyn LeBeau – Mario and Sonic Super Pack (courtesy of SEGA)
Chelsea Noke – Sonic Car Sticker
John Elliot – Signed Archie #195
Tony Mattingly – Homemade CD Clock
Alex Smith – UniQlo Sonic Adventure ‘Hands’ T-Shirt
Ellie Finch – Sonic Jam (Japanese Version) for Sega Saturn
Angel C – Sonic & Knuckles Collection on PC
Ryan Nurse – Sonic Archives Vol. 1
Amelia Hansson – Sonic X Book
Jag Singh – Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog VHS
Yannick Daly – SONIC PANTSU
Unlucky to those who didn’t win anything, but that’s the luck of the draw! And double-unlucky to poor Yannick, who won our fabulous booby prize of a boy’s (4-5 years) size of white pants featuring a picture of Sonic on the front. Hopefully you won’t be too disturbed by the arrival of the prize.
The rowdy crowd in the chatroom were so nutty that they ordered us to give away the bags in which we contained the prize and entrant names in. These bags were nothing special – a plastic Forbidden Planet bag and a clear T-Shirt shrink wrap. Anders Muskens won the former and Zacharie Palmer won the latter, FYI – but only if you guys really want it. You know, honestly, what could you do with a piece of plastic rubbish?
The Sonic Hour Episode 506: “Super Sonic Underpants” will be added to the podcast in little over 10/20 minutes. Nominees for the Sonic Site Awards 2009 will appear later tonight, along with the opening of entry polls for you to begin your voting!

One of our contests, as mentioned a few days ago, will be the random lucky dip that we’ll be featuring on SEGASonic Radio tomorrow night. Please do not email us with your details – I won’t be able to find time to put your names in the special ‘hat’ we have here. Good luck to all our entrants; winners (and the prize they will get) will be randomly plucked out of a hat so the handing of goodies is completely fair. There will be only one prize per winner. Here’s a shortlist of what you can win;
A Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games ‘Super Pack’, courtesy of SEGA Europe
UniQlo Sonic Adventure ‘Hands’ T-Shirt, Blue
Archie Sonic the Hedgehog #195, signed by Matt Herms
Sonic Rivals 2 on PSP
Sonic & Knuckles Collection on PC
Japanese copy of Sonic Jam on Sega Saturn
Sonic the Hedgehog Archives, Vol. 1
Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog VHS
Classic Sonic Car Sticker
A Sonic X Children’s Book
A Crappy Homemade CD Wall Clock
White, Homemade Sonic Heroes ‘branded’ underpants, Ages 4-5
Basically, you want the good prizes and not the crappy ones. 😉 Listen to SEGASonic Radio’s The Sonic Hour at 7pm GMT tomorrow night (click the green button at the top of the page there) and then join in the IRC Chatroom (click the ‘Chat’ link at the top of the page) and chat about the show’s happenings with friends live. Remember that in the UK (where the show will be broadcast), the clocks go back one hour so for many places around the world please take that into consideration. If you’re ever confused as to what time it is for us, click here and look under the “London” section. See you then!

Happy Birthday to us! The Sonic Stadium was launched on this day, nine long years ago. Originally a place I created while at school to just write about my favourite game series, this place quickly became one of the most popular places to go to online. Over its long history, this site has had countless firsts, loads of exclusives, official recognition from SEGA, and been the cause of many legendary community initiatives, with the most recent being the Summer of Sonic convention.
While it’s true that we have led the way in many ways regarding Sonic site communities and approaches to design and philosophies, the real success story is in the many Sonic fans that come to TSS to enjoy what we have to say in one weird way or another. You, the visitors, are what truly make TSS great and I want to thank you so much for giving me the encouragement to stick with it for nine years. Continue reading Happy Birthday to TSS!

How time flies. This website, born from my unhealthy obsession for Sonic the Hedgehog and eagerness to write whatever crap popped into my head, will soon turn 9 years old. On the 24th October I’ll have a surprise or two for you. Do stick around. In the meantime, we’ll be having a good few (proper!) updates to the information pages and content areas here during the run up. So, enjoy TSS’ birthday week (for what it is right now). 🙂

One of the things that The Sonic Stadium is known for, beyond our eight-year history, is our bizarre sense of humour. This humour is usually implemented in our banner adverts, which we’ve had rolling for several years now. Although the banner advertisement service allows for other Sonic sites to get noticed via visiting TSS, sometimes we got bored and made our own stuff to put up on the rotation. These varied from adverts for articles and specific updates to the site itself to random ways of advertising the advert service itself.
Hit the jump for a gallery of past banners, used at some stage during The Sonic Stadium’s life. Not all of the banners have been saved unfortunately, but here’s what we have salvaged. Enjoy. Continue reading TSS History: The Banners

We thought we’d share this cool little gift we got from Simon, also known as ‘ForeverSonic’, at the Video Games Live concert on Friday. It’s a little card wishing the site a happy 8th birthday, along with a little present. And you know how the best presents are always homemade (unless they’re from Sega or us, of course). A lot of time and effort must have gone into making this fluffy Sonic head, although now we’re worried if there’s a fluffy Sonic body wandering the earth looking for it. It is Halloween this week after all.
There was also an awesome Tails head made as well. You can see that above too. Happy birthday TSS – our blasts from the past continue tomorrow!

She’s Got The Look
The launch of The Sonic Stadium had a very good initial response – some thirty people or so were regularly visitng the website in just a few weeks since it’s opening, which is pretty admirable considering that it did so with no fanfare or anything. The first few months in 2001 would prove to be much tougher, as beginner’s luck would set in and the casually interested visitors would drop off and head to more interesting sites like The Sonic Foundation and Sonic HQ.
To combat this, towards the end of 2000 I began work on a new site design. One with a dark background, two sidebars and room for a lot of links to different pages. Still feeling my way around web design, I took a free template and fiddled with that to get the look I wanted. It wasn’t a very good idea at the time because I missed several updates because of this, but it taught me a lot about how to achieve certain things in a webpage.
While I was preparing this new design, I realised I needed more space than Angelfire’s 50Meg service provided. As a result of weeks of searching, The Sonic Stadium was moved onto a supposedly limitless, free host called Stas.net which included no ad-banners whatsoever. This became my undoing, as the bursting bubble of the dot com boom meant places like Stas ended up disappearing without so much as a ‘We’re closing down, bye’ message. There aren’t many images and backups of this design, as the only copies were on Stas. This meant I had to start from practically scratch. Even worse was I had my GCSE exams this year, so the revival would have to wait until several months later… Continue reading TSS Timeline: The Year 2001

Prelude
I’ve always been a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog, ever since I saw the Mega Drive game that my friend owned (which resulted in me accidently getting a Master System in my childhood ways). Every bit of my pocket money would go on the games, and any other merchandise I could fit in too. As time went on though, the Sony PlayStation became more popular and that (along with adolescence) made my interest in Sega and Sonic wane throughout the late 1990s.
My interest was to be reignited during my last year of school. Sometime in 1999, we had a new computer centre built, which brought Internet to the masses of kids attending there. Soon enough, every kid had a floppy disk with Genecyst and a Sonic 2 ROM that they would play during lunch break whenever the admins weren’t looking. Seeing the game being enjoyed again (and playing it a heavy amount myself) kick-started my love for the games all over again.
I eventually came across a website called The Moogle Cavern (now dead). It appeared during a random Yahoo search for ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’, not expecting to find as many fan sites as I did. In its prime, the ‘MC’ was known for its mish-mash of Mario, Sonic, Squaresoft and other assorted franchise information. I quickly joined the forums and became a solid part of their community. Because we’re cool like that, SEGASonic Radio is having a special weekend dedicated to Sonic the Hedgehog in honour of his 17th Birthday on the 23rd. Sounds a bit silly having that sort of dedication on a radio station already dedicated to the blue hog, but don’t kill the moment eh?
There will be several two-hour slots every evening from 5pm GMT starting Friday 20th (that’s tomorrow) to Sunday 22nd, with a special joint LiVECAST with Roarey_Raccoon, Urtheart and SpeedKnux on Monday 23rd (Sonic’s big day) at 8pm GMT. It’s been over a year since SONIC NEWS picked itself off the ground and was revived by the TSS Network. The 11th March was its first post announcing its comeback, and now we want your opinions on how its gone the last 12 months.
Do you feel the stories have been written well enough? Do you think that we’ve chosen stories in the past that aren’t worthy of your time, yet we fail to pick out some of the bigger stories? Think we need more community related news here?
Then have your say in the Comments Page below! This is the time where we reflect on how well we’ve done and take on board any (rational) suggestions you may have to make this service as informative, fast and exciting as possible. Share your thoughts and we can improve! Continue reading SONIC NEWS: Have Your Say

There was a time when the uttering of Sonic and Mario in the same sentence would only be used in the context of one of the many fanboy riots that took place on school playgrounds during the early 1990’s. These days, it’s no longer the case – since SEGA hopped off the hardware platform and bounced to the third party column, they’ve been quite friendly to their old rivals. How’s it going guys? A big update today, as I said yesterday. First off, Sonic Kid sent us a huge bunch of scans and the Sonic X French Theme, so you can view and download all those things. It’s called for a new section for the Comics Zone called Foreign Comics. The Sonic X Theme can be found in the Sonic X section. Flare Gamer who is constructing a cool site asked me for an interview a few weeks back, and you can read the transcript here if you got nothing better to do. AND, there was also the TSS Timeline update made yesterday, which has a complete psychological history of TSS during 2004 up till this present day. For more updates, check out TSS’ front page, under “Latest Updates”.
But for more exciting things, looking ahead now! The Sonic Stadium will be FIVE YEARS OLD in October. October 24th to be exact. And what does a major Sonic site need to make its existence complete? Why, the legendary 1 MILLION VISIT count of course. If you check the Site Meter for The Sonic Stadium you can see that we are close to the 1M mark. Granted, it’s a fair way off, but it’s worth shouting about, even this early. 903,500 unique visitors have entered TSS since October 24th, 2000 (on last count; today at 8:22pm GMT). At this rate we’ll be hitting that target in a month or two! Exciting. 😀 Anyway, enjoy those updates.

Happy Birthday to The Sonic Stadium! Festivities kicked off last night, as the Sonic Site Awards Ceremony was broadcast live, while the Sonic Top 8 Awards followed. We had such a great turnout, it was really buzzing last night. I’d like to thank all those that attended and had a great time with us. It’s not over though – TSS is about to make a HUGE update, with a massive SUPER Sonic Scansday! And, MAKE SURE YOU TAKE PART IN OUR COMPETITION! Yeah, we have a real competition, with REAL PRIZES. Take a look, and enter; you have about three weeks to send your entries to me. Fancy winning a Sonic game, the new Sonic Underground DVD Boxset maybe? Or perhaps you’ve always wanted the Sonic X Original Soundtrack? Well, take part, we got them all up for grabs baby! Who says we don’t treat you right? Stay tuned to TSS!

Sunday 24th October 2004, at 5:00pm GMT (UK Time), the celebrations will all kick off at the SONIC SITE AWARDS 2004, for the final announcement of the winners! Who has won the Sonic Site of ’04? And who is the best Elite Sonic Site? Roareye and myself will host the show, which will also kick off a new series and season of programming for SEGASonic Radio, our radio station. SSR will merge stations so that Live and Streamed will combine. All you can want, in one station.
The new series of popular show “The Sonic Hour” will debut when the SSA Ceremony begins. Fastfeet Media will return, which includes the return of the TSS FTP Service (after some considerable downtime), and a new BitTorrent system will be placed in the FFM halls. The SSMB Forums will get a makeover, plus a new skin to celebrate. Continue reading TSS’ 4th Birthday!

Well, basically, if the content pages of some Game sections look messed up, just bear with it. We’re in the midst of modifying the Game Section to make it more accessible to you, and the first game pages to use this new system is the newly announced Feel the Magic and Sonic 1 on Mega Drive. On another note, the SSMB Forums are undergoing a makeover for it’s 3rd Birthday, and we’re preparing things for both Halloween and TSS’ FOURTH Birthday on the 24th October – which also brings the Awards Ceremony of the Sonic Site Awards. More details to appear on the Official SSA Website tomorrow. Should really update that banner rotation too while I’m at it.
As for the SAGE Coverage, due to everything going on and the apparent lack of things on show at the event, I don’t think I will be making a Coverage report this time. Sorry guys @ SAGE and the boothists – however I DID manage to interview Mj2 and The Dying Informant; the amazing people behind Chaos Control, one of the most anticipated Fan Games in production. That interview will be going up in a few days, regardless.

So, the stylish influence of United Game Artists strikes further within Sonic Team HQ, as we finally know what ‘Project Rub’ is all about. It’s a dating sim for Nintendo DS, you see. And it involves “touching girls”. Egad. We’ll be covering that in a day or so’s time. Sorry for lack of updates too, but a new job convinces me to stay away from this computer and all, so bleh. Trust me though, I’m putting stuff up and have a ton of great things lined up over the next month – in time for TSS’ FOURTH Birthday. Also, SAGE has started once more – but if you hear hide nor peep from me for a day or so, I’m just fixing up Shadow Team’s booth for the event. Finally, the Sonic Site Awards is in Phase 2. Need I say more? I don’t think so. ‘Ave it.

I know it’s months away but, that gives us enough time to set things up and shiz… Right now I am trying to get 99% of the sonic music downloaded. If you have any suggestions for games, competitions, funny stuff, casts, etc. please post them here and I hope that the SSR team (Dread, Fastfeet, Spawnofsonic, Sonux, me, etc.) will take it into considerations.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE NO STUPID THINGS like “why not do funny things like faf about?” or “Plez play Open your Heart 1,000,000,000 times ’cause itz my fav” because:
It just looks stupid
We’re gonna do that anyway
Music requests are for when we are already casting
I will check back here regularly to see what ideas you guys have and I will comment on what you have said and I will rate it out of 5.

Blah! Just thought I’d announce, I am 19 years old today. Choice, isn’t it? 🙂 This year’s gone a lot better than last year’s, in regards to parties and general feeling, but I won’t go into that. Oddly (but cool- erm -ly) people online have taken a massive interest in myself. Which is rather good isn’t it? People that visit TSS and the SSMB have sent and made me stuff for today too, so rather than save it on my computer and just pass it off for blah, I’ve given it all it’s own little page. You can find it in the Site History page, Dreadknux’s 19th Birthday is be called. While I’m on the subject, I updated the old TSS Timeline section too, so check that out if you like. Sonic Scansday delayed; will happen tomorrow instead. Cha’mone.

What, you thought I’d miss Sonic’s 13th Birthday? For shame! 😛 I’ve managed to make a special article to commemorate the Sonic anniversary, “Let’s have a Happy Birthday“. Because we all should. My birthday is on the 30th too, on a completely unrelated note!!! 😀
Also, the Sonic Site Awards website is fully up and running, although voting will not officially start until Monday. Check out the noiceness! Finally, as I speak I’m just about to hop into a special SEGASonic Radio LiVECAST gathering with all the SSR:LiVECAST DJ’s for Sonic’s 13th! Join us if you will, we’re all at the TSS Chat Room. Have a good one!

Sonic’s birthday is nigh on a few days away, and what do we have planned? … Erm, maybe not a whole lot. 😉 We could just surprise you though. Bear in mind I’m trying to open The Sonic Site Awards 2004 by the 23rd, so if we can do that, then that’d be good enough, eh? ^_^; Another event has spawned in the community, called Chaos Con, and is a showcase of all manners of fan works. We start covering it today, so check out the link and read our coverage so far. Then check out the site itself. We’d have begun when the event actually opened yesterday, but alas certain circumstances meant it was delayed until today. But still. 🙂
Also of note, I’ve added two more new fan articles to the Articles section. One by Cake, and one by Sonicoman. Read ’em and… weep. Possibly. Also bear in mind that Sonic Advance 3 is already out in the UK! That’s right, it was released early, so get it in! I’d also like to point out that I’m preparing a reshuffle of the Games Reviews, what with older reviews not being ‘Sonically correct’, so to speak. That is all, enjoy!

OK, it’s ‘Announcement Time’ with everyone’s favourite echidna. Erm, yes. ^^ Right, first off: Sonic Battle Stadium Season II. Creation of the new season’s rules are well underway and should be finished very soon. I’m hoping to launch the new Season next week – probably Saturday. Hey everyone, and welcome to the Sonic Stadium’s month-late Birthday party! The Music Zone’s up and fully online, all the new MIDIs are present, so have a whale of a time! Deeply sorry for keeping you waiting this long for them, but Topcities are dump, so, there. More hoaxes from Ultimo and Ace Fox, more links, and the Surgeon you love to hate, Dr. Dre(ad) is back and answering your questions! My Birthday has passed, and I am extremely happy. Not only does the Linkin Park album rock to hell (well, I kinda knew that anyway) but I also bagged myself a Game Boy Advance. I’ve yet to play any GBA games for it though – I could only afford a trade in, but I still got some of my GBC games. Just gotta get a GBA game next week then. Sigh.
