This video was taken at ScrewAttack’s Game Convention during their Iron Man Tournament. The last game was a surprise and was revealed to be Sonic 4. What’s more surprising to me is the huge crowd reaction. I’m glad to see such a positive reaction for this game.

Most of you probably don’t know this, but I’m the Editor in Chief at a little up and coming Sonic web comic site called “Emerald Coast Comics“. We’re probably best known for our Sonic Eggs weekly strip, if we’re known for anything at all, but we do other things too. This is a comic we’ve been working on for the better part of two years, from early script drafting to the final upload today!
This comic was written by new, and fully penciled, from the cover to the final page, by Jetstreamx. We’ve got a load of people on inks and colors, which you can see from the credits page. We REALLY hope you guys enjoy this birthday present from us, and whether you do or not, all of us from ECC would really appreciate some feedback.

Near the beginning of E3 on Thursday, me and Alex went to the Nintendo booth to play Zelda, Unfortunately, the lines for the game are 90 minutes long!! Luckily, Metroid other M was not as bad. Alex played that for awhile, so I headed over to play Donkey Kong Country Returns. A game opened up and I grabbed a Wiimote and Nunchuck. Another gentleman picked up the second controller. It was Takashi Iizuka. The head of Sonic Team whom I just interviewed days before. Though I doubt he recognized me now. I didn’t gush or talk Sonic with him. I just played the game with him.
The game starts in DK and Diddy Kongs house. You shake the Wiimote and Nunchuck like crazy to bust open the house and make your way down. Iizuka was Donkey Kong. I was Diddy. We made our way down the jungle area stomping on bird enemies when I found a cool new maneuver where Diddy can hop up on Donkey Kong and become one fighting team together. When Iizuka jumped, I could use Diddy’s hover rockets to slow DK’s decent making it easier to land. Also, shaking the Wiimote lets Diddy shoot bannas from his bananna gun while still riding on top of DK. “Oh, you’re on me?” Said Iizuka. “Ummm…yea.” I said as I figured out how to get off of him before it got to be a little bit awkward.
At one point, Iizuka’s DK died and I had to help smash him out of a barrel. Another trademark from the older games. The backgrounds are beautiful and ended up being totally interactive. Both me and Iizuka stupidly pass by a stomping area and jump off a cliff to the left. He almost did it again, but I realized our mistake. “This way.” I tell Iizuka and he follows me to a gold area you need to stomp on to bring up a new area up in the background. You do this by constantly shaking the Wiimote and Nunchuck to smash the ground. Then, we both took a barrel and got shot over into the background to fight some more enemies. Soon after, we reached the end, and I told him “Thank you.”
The game was great and a lot of fun. I can’t wait to play more of it this holiday season. Still though, I wonder if Iizuka will get any ideas from this for his next Sonic game? A Sonic/Tails co-op adventure perhaps?

This was my very first E3, and now will certainly not be the last. When I was young I often heard about how E3 was an “unbelievable experience”, and that most certainly held true this year. This year saw the debut of a lot of great things, both in software, and hardware. We got to meet all sorts of celebrities, from gaming legends like Yuji Naka and Takashi Iizuka, to internet celebrities like Ryan Cassidy (GoNintendo’s RMC) and Angry Joe, to renowned wrestlers. The people at the SEGA booth where great, welcoming us in a fun but proffesional manner, helping us get content and info that we could then deliver to you guys.
Almost as important as the people, however, where the games, and this year was unbelievable, even by my buddy Jason’s standards. And he’s been to a LOT of E3s. For one, this is the year we finally saw the grand return of Nintendo. After years of giving us underwhelming E3s and pandering to the casual market, Nintendo finally delivered in full force, from Zelda to Kirby, and debuted an absolutely spectacularly looking new handheld that drove me to buy new stock in the company. Not only was this the year of Nintendo, but also the year of the platformer. Beyond Sonic, Epic Mickey, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Bonk, and Lost in Shadow all left impressions on us. The platformer genre, a genre that our blue friend is a part of, has long been neglected, but this E3 the genre has come back in full force, and it was a wonderful thing to see.
But, more then all of this, this year has also marked the return of our little blue pal, Sonic the Hedgehog. This year we got to play not one, not two, but FOUR Sonic games, all of which where impressive, but stuck to the roots. Sonic Adventure, the release of Sonic’s first critically acclaimed 3D title, has been tightened and improved, with many of it’s niggling bugs removed. Sonic 4, while it still has some issues that keep it from being just like the classics, is a far cry from the “Sonic Rush 3” many screamed it was going to be, and is looking to be a very fun, physics driven platformer. Perhaps the biggest impression was left by the newest game, Sonic Colors, which looks to put the whole “Sonic can’t do 3D” nonsense to bed once and for all. Not to mention, it’s producing a very different, but equally as fun DS version.
When Jason can say he played Donkey Kong Country Returns with Takashi Iizuka, you should get an idea of just how much fun E3 was this year. I encourage you all to check out SEGAbits for our impressions on the SEGA side of things. We’re not quite done with E3 on TSS either. We’ve got some more write ups to do, which hold some exclusive (I think) info on a few games. So stay tuned ;).

Question: How do you top off a great E3 which was the biggest year for Sonic yet? On these 3 days of glorious gaming, how to you top it? Put the cherry on the Sunday?
Left: Yuji Naka Middle: Me and Sonic Right:Takashi Iizuka
That’s how folks. Me with two of the biggest Sonic creatives in the biz.
Best. E3. Ever.

Now either I’m very slow off the bat (in which case this probably isn’t news for you), but it looks like the US are getting a Sonic Convention…for a second time: apparently the DFW Hedgehog Show and SoniCon is now in it’s second year. The event is being held in Plano, Texas in early November, but looks to be a much more wildlife-ish related affair compared to what goes on with Summer of Sonic. Amongst a whole host of hedgehoggy people and gothic looking rock bands (I hope they give the hedgehogs ear plugs) is Eggman voice actor extrodinaire Mike Pollock, who will also be making an appearance at the event.
If you live state-side and are planning on going to this, let us know!
You can find convention information at the DFW Hedgehog Show Convention webpage.
Alternatively, come to Summer of Sonic (shameless plug, yes).

SEGA France’s blog The Blue Room have added a new entry today regarding Sonic making a special guest appearance on Saturday at the wedding of a young woman called Alexandra who according to the blog makes regular appearance’s at trade fairs.
This Saturday the little Alexandra-some of you know her for having crossed here and there when attending trade fairs, married. Sonic himself came to him a little surprise visit to congratulate her at the exit of the town hall. Nice of him
PS: I said, it’s Sonic’s left and not the husband Alex
You can join us to congratulate her, of course!
Can’t say I know who Alexandra is myself but SEGA France sound like they know her, regardless congratulations anyway Alexandra from all of us at TSS. I wish Sonic could have attended my wedding, how about you guys and gals?

Greetings, Sonic fans! Thought you guys might like to know that Ian Flynn, the current head writer of the stellar Sonic comics, is now taking questions from his fans. This isn’t the first time he’s done this. “Ask Ian” has long been a stable of the Bumbleking forums, the forum Ian uses to interact with his fanbase. He’s had discontinue it for most of the last year due to a very busy schedule. As of Sunday, however, Flynn has decided to bring the feature back, and in audio format no less!
I skipped over advertising this feature in the past, because it was not particularly practical to copy and paste the often gigantic question and answer sessions. However, with Ian now answering his questions via audio, it will now be possible for TSS to bring these often enlightening question and answer sessions to all of you!
However, there are some rules which you must follow, which I will paste below:
#1 – ONE question per person per answer session. This is in the interest of making it easier for me to keep up and less work for the fine volunteer force.
#2 – I reserve the right to skip your question. That sounds mean and heartless, I know, but sometimes it must be done. There are some question that I just can’t answer for whatever reason, so I’ll leave them be. Just know it’s not personal.
Please note that since this thread is for the questions only, there’s a talkback thread for discussion. You may find that the answer to your question is already available, so check it out.
In addition to these rules, you also cannot ask a question on the behalf of another. You must sign up to the forum in order to participate. And, of course, please respect Flynn and follow the forum’s rules. With luck, your question be will be answered when Ian posts the audio questions.
To ask Ian your question, go to this thread.

Ever wondered what playing Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing with a Dreamcast controller would be like? Neither have I but it’s a cool concept. In the above video AdamKoralik shows us how to perform the task on the Xbox 360, since the game doesn’t require as many buttons the game is able to be played well with the Dreamcast controller even though the analogue stick doesn’t seem to work. Awesome work AdamKoralik! Thanks to blib at the SEGA Forums for the heads up!

Sonic has gone bare bones spikes and all in the above new t-shirt SEGA Nerds caught sight of at Tee Fury in one of their 24hr only availability sales. In this creepy looking T-Shirt Tee Fury have oddly captured Sonic’s essence as we can all agree Sonic would likely take his cool attitude to his grave but his sneakers and gloves too? Guess Sonic is quite literally attatched to his belongings. Since these were only on sale for 24 hours they’re going to be pretty hard to track down, we’ll keep an eye out for any on eBay and report back.

Via our friends at UK:R, we have links to two different pairs of Sonic underpants that you can purchase and show off to ladies everywhere. The first pair is from ASOS and is only available in “extra small” (waist size 28-30) It was recently discounted to £4.00. Bulge not included:
The second pair of underpants is on eBay and runs for £11 (~$17) and is only available in large (waist size 34-36). Here’s the listing’s description:

If, like me, you loved playing the Sonic games on the Megadrive when you were young then don’t miss your chance to own a super funky pyjama bottom – you will cherish it forever! It will make a super gift for a trendy guy that appreciates all things retro!

We love our friends in the Sonic community, and even more so if they cover the works of Sonic musical legend Jun Senoue. News has just hit us that for the first 50 members who register to the Official German Crush 40 Fanclub (which means its legit, yo), there’s a special badge up for grabs.
You can see a picture of the badge above. I’ve seen it myself, touched it with my own hands. It’s a nice little badge, don’t you think? If you want one of these, then register at the site and it may well be on its way to your house.
Then you can wear it with pride and be forever strengthened by the rock harmony of Jun and Johnny. Gang of thugs looking at you funny? No problem. Embrace the power of the badge and rock in their faces until they melt. It’d be like a Sonic themed version of Brutal Legend. Maybe.
Go to the damn site already! Schnell!

Sonic Relief Founder MK Skillz has issued the following announcement –
And so, the curtain falls on another Sonic Relief campaign. Despite things getting off to a pretty slow start, your entries soon flooded in and we’ve had another successful year of Sonic-related fundraising!
Following last year’s surprising £102 total, we tried to be a bit more experimental this time around. Some of the new features worked well, others not so much – the introduction of JustGiving allowed anyone to make a donation to our cause, whereas the “something sporty” theme was perhaps a bit more limiting. Needless to say, we will be taking all of these things into account in the future.
One thing to keep in mind is that Sonic Relief is still relatively new, and still something unknown to many people in the community. With more time, more publicity and more support, there is plenty of potential still to be unlocked. I’d also like to clear up a possible misconception and say that Sonic Relief is not just a charity campaign – it’s a creative showcase for the community, with your efforts going towards helping a good cause.
Now, before I move on to the announcement of this year’s grand total and our winning entry, I’d like to thank a few people. First, a huge thanks to everyone who entered and donated – I said it last year and I’ll say it again, we couldn’t have done it without you! Thanks also go to T-Bird and Urtheart for donating prizes, to Pelly, ArchangelUK and Vger for helping to promote the campaign and for their general support, and to Dreadknux for letting us hold another Sonic Relief here on The Sonic Stadium. And of course, a massive shout out to my good friend Shadzter who helped to make this whole thing possible for the second year running.
Right then, I think I’ve kept you in suspense long enough! I can reveal that the grand total raised by Sonic Relief 2010 is…
£375.55! (or, if you include Gift Aid, £417.29 !)
That’s an absolutely whopping total, folks! Everyone who participated deserves to give themselves a huge round of applause. If we can raise this much even with a lack of publicity, imagine what we could do if the whole community got involved!
But what of those people who participated though? For the first time in Sonic Relief history we’re giving away prizes for our favourite entry, and we’ve had some real crackers this year. It was certainly tough picking a winner, and everyone who entered should be proud of their work, but here is our favourite entry of 2010…
Winner: Tina Jackson
This entry was picked as the winner because it truly represents what Sport Relief is all about – bringing the worlds of sport and comedy together! Congratulations to you, Tina – you’ve got your hands on those exclusive Sonic and Knuckles plushes, as well as a copy of Sonic Heroes on PC!
I’d also like to make a special mention to Gavvie and his Songs For Sonic album, which raised £100 all by itself. Unfortunately we haven’t got any more prizes to give away, but we can’t thank you enough! Creative ways of fundraising like this are something we want to promote in the future…
And that’s about it for this year’s campaign. Will we be back in 2011? I’m certainly up for it, but it’ll depend on how much the community will get involved – so the more support we get from you guys, the better!
In the meantime if you have any suggestions for future campaigns please do not hesitate to get in touch with either Shadzter or myself, your ideas are much appreciated! Or you can do us a huge favour and just help to spread the word about Sonic Relief!
Thank you all once again for your support and we’ll hopefully see you again soon for more fundraising antics!
Huge thanks goes to Sonic Relief founder MK Skillz, without all of his work this achievement couldn’t have been possible. Thanks from myself also go to everyone who contributed, Dreadknux, T-Bird, Urtheart, Gavvie, Pelly, ArchangelUK, Vger and to everyone who entered the competition and made donations.

Guess who’s back. Back again.
Today, in honor of the recent release of Splash Hill screenshots and music, we’ve got a pair of remixes (holy shit, already?). This first one is a “modern” twist on the latest obligatory green zone by remixing it in the style of the Adventure games or Sonic Heroes:

Reminds me of Seaside Hill, so big ups on this one. Seaside Hill is my joint. P4KO, nice work on this remix and thanks for sending it our way, bronik.
This next remix of “Green Hill: Part 7,000” is by none other than Gecko Yamori. His interpretation is of the “classic” variety, using the 16-bit sounds found within the Genesis/Mega Drive:

Once again, I am personally wowed at how fan remixes have been making the Sonic 4 songs catchy. I guess I just find the choice of instruments obnoxious in the official tracks, especially the synth. That’s just me, though, so what do you guys think about the music and these remixes?
Do that shit.

YouTube user SongeLeReveur is a veritable prodigy if I ever saw one. Not content with learning to play bass guitar, acoustic guitar, bongos and a freaking ocarina (among others), he proceeded to don a doll of Spongebob Squarepants and splice footage of all four five into an awesome mediterranean take on Marble Zone‘s theme from the original Sonic the Hedgehog.

His latest variation on a Sonic theme is a jazzy rendition of a forgotten classic, Sky High Zone from the Master System and Game Gear version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

SongeLeReveur’s done a number of other Sonic tracks, along with other series such as Final Fantasy, and film/TV classics such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Back to the Future. But you’ll just have to go find them yourself, wun’cha sunshine?

So while TSS takes a break from competitions for a moment, our friends over at Sonic Wrecks are taking up the reins! In fact they’ve got an extremely tasty morsel to give away in the form of the Sonic Classic Collection Limited Edition Collectors Tin set, containing a copy of Sonic Classic Collection on the Nintendo DS, 5 glossy postcards of classic art, and a First4Figures mini Sonic statue. This isn’t available outside of Spain and Australia, so this is a must-have for you die-hards outside those regions!
All you have to do is simple:
THE TASK
Sonic Classic Collection brings the classic quintet of Sonic’s original Mega Drive outings to the Nintendo DS for the first time, but what we want to know is something completely bogus. That’s right, I want your best entirely ficticious Sonic The Hedgehog “facts”! The best one wins… simples!
If you’re stuck for ideas, here’s an example: “The idea for the character of Knuckles the Echidna came about from one of Yuji Naka’s anecdotes, in which he claims to have defended himself against an army of Nintendo fanboys in a bar fight, using only an anteater “.
Ok, so my mind works in wonderful ways. Lucky for you, I’ve already got one. It’s very nice.
Anyway, the competition is open until the 26th of March 2010, so get yer thinking caps on; a crackers fact could bag yourself a lovely piece to add to your collection!
Check out Sonic Wrecks for full details and to enter!

I’ve put my copy of Sonic Classic Collection down for five miuntes to show you my third and final favourite entry for the Bentley Jones So Much More Video Competition. As you’ve probably guessed, most of my faves have centred on videos where the entrants have roped their mates in to get involved, and this one is no different – Club 9 have banded together in this rather artsy and albeit silly video in which they mime their way through the track, or stand around looking moody. It’s filmed in really high quality, it’s fun to watch, and half the band are called Ryan (ok, so the last one’s not really a selling point). Plus, the guy on the sound board is mental.
Again, I think this is a real contender for top spot in the competition, and in true T-Bird style will send them a goodie bag as consolation should they fail to make the top 10 entries.
Watch out though, the band do start loosing clothes towards the end of the video. Form an orderly queue please ladies.
EDIT: Damn! I keep finding more awesome entries! Check out the Bentley Bird!

Ok, so a couple of weeks back we were treated to a sneaky peak at some DLC for Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing on the XBox 360 over on the SEGA Blognik. I set a little task to go about doodling on the avatar in a no-holds barred contest to basically make as humorous an entry as possible. Well as per usual at the promise of free goodies, the entries came in their masses, which were whittled down to just a handful. The TSS staff then had a look, and out of the selection we picked a winner…the quality of the entries was so spectacular, that I think they deserve a mention here too…
3RD PLACE: MUSHROOM 64
It looks like Sonic is taking a real pounding! Genius! Mushroom 64 is the proud winner of a First4Figures mini Knuckles figurine!
2ND PLACE: Adamis
It looks like two wheels are better than four! Big is leading the pack! I think the bias for anything Big related shone through here! Again, hillarious! Adamis is the proud winner of a First4Figures mini Sonic figurine!
WINNER: T. Brockmüller
…OK, so I’m out of ASR quotes….but Rotor’s face cracks me up in this last frame. Also, SatAM really does not get enough love! Props to you Mr. Brockmüller – you are the proud receipient of a SEGA Prize Europe Sonic plush!
All winners please send your postal details to the competition email address, and I’ll get your prizes out to you! A big thumbs up to all of the other competitors…keep an eye out for more competitions in the future!

Ever wondered what Sonic 3 mashed with one of Lucky Star’s most annoying yet funny character would sound like? Akhts decided to try it out in the below video.

Thanks to Pearl at the SSMB for the heads up.
If that wasn’t enough Alex Day has expressed his thoughts about modern Sonic games in song which even the most hardcore Sonic fans should get a laugh out of.

OK, so a few weeks ago I saw an entry for the Bentley Jones So Much More Video Contest by Sonictoast that blew my hat off my head, with live action, stop motion, and a bloke dressed as Eggman. Well, today I spotted a nifty bit of art appear on BJ’s facebook page. Perousing facetube following a series of links turned up this cover of So Much more by a band called “Freen In Green”, which gives the track an Indie makeover – percussion, bass, rhythm and melody guitars, and of course some vocalz. 75% of band appear to be hiding off camera / behind hair, but I guess that’s forgiven because there’s a pretty good attempt at the solo! Anyway, this is another spiffing example of what you can do to really sweep away the competition and do something original, as well as have fun with your mateys (because it’ cool to show you have friends!). Anyway, I think this has made it onto my list of entries where “if it doesn’t place I will bear my backside in Fenwick’s window“. I like to put my money where my mouth is, so Yamino, if you don’t place in the winners, I will send you a consolation prize!

Oh, and they also have an account on facebook too!
You’ve only have until Friday (5th of March 2010) to get your entries in, so if you haven’t done so yet, you’ve got a busy couple of days ahead of you! If you spot any good entries, lets us know in the comments!
