Wow.
That is an actual quote this SEGA fanboy uttered as SEGA turned on the television to give a group of people from the gaming media their first look at the newest All-Stars game. As the TV switched on, I was expecting to see Green Hill, Chemical Plant, or maybe Emerald Coast grace the screen in glorious HD. This was a Sonic title after all, right? Then, as the screen turned on, I noticed a small Panzer Dragoon logo in the left hand corner. For a moment, I didn’t believe it. Then I saw Lagi stretching her wings, the Shelcoof soaring through the sky and heard “Flight” playing in the background, and the little SEGA fanboy in me screamed.

Following yesterday’s teaser by Sumo Digital’s Steve Lycett aka S0L and the many reports since we first brought you news of a possible sequel to Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, a listing has just appeared over at GamesRadar for a PS3 title called Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Has GamesRadar let the cat out of the bag?

Late last year, publisher Pix’N Love surprised everyone when they announced a ‘history of Sonic the Hedgehog’ book would be printed for release near to the start of 2012. However due to various problems at the publisher this ended up being delayed, but now Pix’N Love have finally revealed the final product… and what a product it is too!

It’s a given that searching for any given video game track on YouTube will lead you to a big number of assorted covers. Some will seem mediocre, some will seem just “meh”, and some are okay.
Then there’s covers like these.
This week’s Sound Test Saturday takes a look into the musical stylings of CageKame, an extremely talented artist from Italy who favours the guitar. You’ll end up finding tons of rock covers for video game tracks on his channel, all well made.
However, I think the term “rock cover” is too basic to describe this guy’s skills, because they are not your everyday vanilla-flavoured cover. What blows his remixes out of the water over all others are not only the energy and spirit he puts into his playing, it’s how his guitar solos take the spotlight. He truly knows how to make each song he comes across into his own.
If you want proof, check out two of his rock remakes down below: Sky Sanctuary and Ice Cap from Sonic 3 & Knuckles!

I spy with my little eye… the Egg Nega-Wisp from Sonic Colours…in Team Fortress 2!? This is delicious!
It truly is an amazing thing what some people can engineer in their computer machines in this day and age. Would you not say the same, gentlemen?

Last year, GamesMaster’s spin off magazine ‘GamesMaster Presents’ did a special Sonic 20th Anniversary issue, despite the high price, many who bought that magazine were amazed by the level of detail which went into it as well as well as the quality of the articles and even how the magazine had contributions from the Sonic community.

Well the avatars are now live on the EU PSN and can be downloaded for the low price of 21p each. For those in the US, you’ve gotta wait another week for them. You can see a quick photo gallery of the avatars after the break as well as details of other Sonic related happenings on the PSN.

SEGA Japan announced today via their Sonic Twitter account that a Platinum Collection edition of Sonic Free Riders would see a Japanese release tomorrow, indicating that the game has sold reasonably well since its release November 2010. The game is available to buy on Play-Asia right now, but only in NTSC-J format. No word on whether or not we’ll see a release in other territories, but we’ll keep you updated if anything is announced!

SEGA’s Mike Kebby has today revealed on the EU PS Blog that they will be releasing the first ever Sonic PSN Avatars on the EU PS Store. Kebby didn’t say who or what the Avatars will be of or how much they will cost, but did say they will be available from tomorrow. No information was given about a US release. In other news, Kebby announced that Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 will be released on the EU PS Store on Wednesday the 16th May for £9.99/€12.99, which is a day later than SEGA Europe has been advertising on their website for a while now (and still is at time of posting).
We’ll update with more information about the Sonic PSN Avatars tomorrow.

The official Sonic the Hedgehog 4website has been updated with the zone unveiled in the game’s recent trailer, Oil Desert Zone!
The update leaves four new screenshots as well as a short description of the zone.
Huge refineries were made by Dr. Eggman to collect the resources of this Zone. Sonic and Tails must be careful as many traps await including Sand storms, quicksand, huge sand-filling tanks, etc.
You can all check out the screenshots accompanying it after the jump.

“Champion”, from the anime series Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, is thrown together with the four introductory Sonic levels from the Genesis era for this week’s Mash-Up Monday! I have to say, the mash-up does quite well in weaving Green Hill, Emerald Hill, Angel Island, and Palmtree Panic together. They all fit quite seamlessly!
Keep in mind that, although the song involved isn’t the case, the source material is very NSFW as it contains adult themes and the like. You were warned, readers!
Ladies and gents, “Green Panty Zone”!

To celebrate the upcoming re-release of Dreamcast favourite this summer, this week’s Sound Test Saturday will tackle a really cool original song that fits to the stylings of both Sonic the Hedgehog and Jet Set Radio! But, you’ll have to check that one out after the break though, because there is this really cool pair of artists I want you all to be acquainted with first.

If you’ve not been awake for the past nine hours, you’ve probably missed the news that Sonic 4: Episode 2 was leaked onto Steam and subsequently downloaded by those who had pre-ordered it, as well as by people rushing to snag an early copy.
However, if you did manage to download it, you might be in for a surprise when you try to re-launch the game.

UPDATE: Steam has fixed the error and the beta can no longer be downloaded.
A beta version of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 has been released on sale just a couple of hours ago this afternoon on PC digital download service Steam. Various Steam users on our SSMB forum have been able to purchase and download the beta and then play through it. At the time of this article we’ve just heard that SEGA has now become aware of the leak and has erased discussion of it over on their official forums. We expect SEGA will plug the leak on Steam pretty soon.
Thanks to the Steam users at the SSMB for the heads up and to Nemain for the image!

Mike Pollock, the voice actor for Eggman, left a rather curious comment on YouTube yesterday, during a conversation with a one Roonco Prime regarding the old cast appearing at “anything Sonic related.” Mr Pollock said that he couldn’t speak for the rest of the cast, however, “You might be able to see me very soon, stay tuned for a major announcement.”

Following recent hiccups and internal setbacks, S2HD’s Project Leader Vincent has officially announced on the game’s Facebook page that there will be no more development on the project. This decision was in fact made over 2 months ago, but the team wanted to at least get the Alpha demo out for their dedicated supporters to enjoy. Read the full statement after the jump. It’s no secret that the tag-team abilities of Sonic and Tails are going to be a major part of Sonic 4: Episode 2’s gameplay, and at last we have some official details on them. SEGA’s Mike Kebby took to the PlayStation Blog to tell us about what we can expect from the real super power of teamwork in the second episode of the Sonic 4 saga.

This week’s Mash-Up Monday provides you with yet another Michael Jackson/Sonic mash-up… through an interesting combination that hasn’t even been tried until now! MJ’s “Thriller” meets Mystic Mansion from Sonic Heroes in “Michael’s Mansion”!
Quite fitting, I’d have to say! Makes sense considering the tropes of both songs!

In 1981, a film was released about two British athletes who ran in the Olympics – one for the glory of God, the other to overcome prejudice.
Now in 2012, a lone hedgehog also runs, in hope of saving his world from tyranny.
Through green hills and spring yards, against all odds, against everything, he must run… for running is all he knows, and running is all he shall ever know…
(Please note: this video ends with quite a literal Sonic boom)

In an update to their website today, SEGA has cleared up the release dates for Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 in Europe and Australia. It appears SEGA is going to defy expectations and release the PS3 version in all territories on the same day of May 15th 2012. The Xbox 360 version will also have a simultaneous release the next day on May 16th 2012 as expected. Other formats will follow later.

Following the recent spate of redundancies in the wake of SEGA’s re-organisation in which many casualties have included high profile employees such as SoA’s Kate Burning, it has now also been confirmed that the last remaining member of SoE’s community team, Laurie Cooper, has also now left the company.

Cheat Code Central got some time to speak to a few SEGA representatives at the recent PAX East event about the future of the Sonic the Hedgehog series and have today published all of the juicy details. First of all we learn that like Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 will not receive any DLC add-on content, BUT Episode 2 does not end the Sonic 4 story.
The booth reps also said that SEGA is committed to delivering more classic Sonic games in the future. While they confirmed that there would be no DLC add-ons for Episode II, they did say that Episode II does not end the Sonic 4 story. Instead, they are taking Sonic games one at a time. If Episode II does well, Episode III will come out. After that, IV, and so on until they get to the point where they are ready to develop Sonic 5 (the rep speculated this wouldn’t be until after Sonic 4: Episode IV).
