With Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games releasing on 8th November in Europe and 15th November in the US, there’s not long to go until the two gaming icons hit the slopes once again – and we now have lots of juicy new artwork, gameplay footage, and more to help whet your appetite!
For starters, the official Mario & Sonic website has updated with full details on all of the game’s modes, including the Olympic Events and Dream Events, as well as showcasing some brand new character artwork for Teams Mario and Sonic.
And as if that wasn’t enough, we have lots of new (albeit brief) gameplay videos courtesy of TheBitBlock and GameXplain on YouTube, giving you a chance to see the game in action ahead of its impending release. Say what you want about the game, but it’s certainly looking rather slick – and who doesn’t love the idea of a Bullet Bill sledge race around Sweet Mountain from Sonic Colours?

Sonic Claus is coming to town!
The Nintendo of Europe product page has updated with a whole cavalcade of brand new screenshots from the upcoming Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. There’s a healthy mix of old and new stuff, including some rather interesting sights like the Bullet Bill sleigh seen above. There’s also Dream Curling in Green Hill Zone where one player sits on top of the stone while the other pushes it, and a mysterious looking castle with a picture of a key above its entrance. Could we be seeing the return of some sort of story mode, or at least something akin to the Festival mode from the first Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games?
And if that’s not enough, there’s some new artwork for Shadow and Donkey Kong along the sides of the product page too:
We also get a clear look at the PAL box art for the game:
You can see all of the new screenshots in the gallery below. Let us know what you think of them in the comments!

Well, this is a nice surprise! It’s just been revealed via the MCM Expo Twitter page that Roger Craig Smith – the current voice actor for Sonic the Hedgehog – will be attending the London Comic-Con later this month. Though Roger will be in attendance primarily to promote his role as the titular character in Batman: Arkham Origins, his appearance will also come hot on the heels of the UK release of Sonic Lost World.
According to Gamasutra, Roger will be signing autographs, making personal appearances and taking part in a panel to answer fan questions throughout the weekend at MCM. You’ll be able to find him at the WB Games stand on both Saturday 26th October and Sunday 27th October, as confirmed via the MCM website.
If you can’t make it to the MCM Expo, Roger will also be appearing at GAME’s Stratford store on Friday 25th October from 9:00-11:00am to meet fans and sign copies of Batman: Arkham Origins.
Are you going to the MCM Expo this month? And if so, do you plan on saying hi to Roger? Let us know in the comments!

Ok so you may need to bare with me here on this one. In the October edition of ToyWorld Magazine, they have a few preview pages of the ‘Brand Licensing Europe’ event. This isn’t a gaming event, it’s a licensing event. Companies attend with the hope of selling licenses to their properties to other companies in order to make products.
And Sega is down to attend with ‘a much larger booth than last year.’ Now this isn’t that unusual since Sega have attended the event for the last few years. Along with Total War and some retro titles, the Sonic license is up for grabs.
However, the more interesting tidbit comes near the end of the article in which they confirm that Sega have signed a licensing deal with publisher Egmont.
Recent licensing deals to have been signed include leading publishers Egmont and Hachette
So who are they? Hachette is a French publisher who are making activity books based on Sonic. And Egmont? Well… long term fans might know them very well. Egmont is the company who purchased Fleetway, the people who made Sonic the Comic here in the UK.
Thats right my friends. Sega have signed a new publishing deal with the people who used to make Sonic the Comic.
Now before we get too excited, they don’t mention specifically that it is for Sonic… however, what does support it being Sonic is that when you look at Egmont’s current lineup of magazines and books, Sonic is the only active franchise Sega have which would fit in with their range of products.
There is also another reason not to get too excited, and thats down to the simple fact that the comic selection in the newsagent has changed since STC ended. Egmont do not make comics anymore, it’s more towards fortnightly actvity books. They do however make one off books.
And to continue the unlikely news, even if it was Sonic the Comic, it’s never going to continue from where it left off, far too long a time has passed.
So whilst it might not be a UK revival of Sonic the Comic, it might suggest a one off book, or could we see pigs fly and get a trade collection of Sonic the Comic published by Egmont?
We’ll be watching this one very closely.

Looking forward to the next sporting crossover between two of gaming’s giants? Well in that case you’ll be pleased to hear that the official website for Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games is now live! Nintendo of Europe made the following tweet earlier today:
Check out the new website for the latest game in the @MarioSonicGames series, coming to #WiiU this November!
But there’s not much to see as of yet. In fact, there’s nothing new there at all. Just an old trailer and a themed background. It’s teased that the full site will be coming soon though, hopefully with plenty of juicy new details along with it.
One new bit of information (or clarification) from this news though comes in the form of the game’s release date, which – as stated in the tweet above – is now officially “November”. It seems that despite Nintendo’s error regarding the 8th November launch date, Mario & Sonic will still be arriving on Wii U in time for the holiday season. Exciting!
And with a Nintendo Direct planned for tomorrow, who knows what potential Mario & Sonic related news we might see? Stay tuned to TSS for more as and when it happens!

You may remember we reported a week or so ago that Nintendo had seemingly revealed the release date for Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games as 8th November by means of a Wii U notification. For those of you who were getting excited, you’re about to be a little disappointed because it turns out that was just a mistake on the Big N’s part. Nintendo have provided the following clarification regarding the game’s release:
The Nov. 8 launch date for Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games that was recently listed in a Wii U notification was an error. A confirmed launch date will be announced in the future. We apologize for any confusion.
So, it looks like we’ll have to wait a bit longer for our next sporting crossover – but at least we have Sonic Lost World to look forward to in the meantime! And you can be sure that, 8th November or not, Mario & Sonic 2014 will be hitting retail and digital stores before the year is over to cash in on the inevitable Christmas rush.
When do you think Mario & Sonic will be released? Anyone who predicts correctly gets bragging rights!

Sonic Lost World is only a month away now but it seems you can already look forward to getting your next Sonic fix after the hedgehog’s debut Wii U adventure. That’s right, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games (what do you mean you forgot it was coming out?!) has now seemingly has been given a release date as well, following hot on the heels of the much-anticipated main series installment.
The news appears to come from Nintendo themselves, as SSMB member CC14 the Franken Frog posted the below snapshot from their Wii U notifications, listing the game as launching on Friday 8th November. The message also indicates that you will be able to download the crossover title from the eShop on the same day, tying in with Nintendo’s current policy of simultaneously releasing new games in both physical and digital format.
Please bear in mind that, despite being a Friday – in other words, the usual day for releasing games in Europe – we can only assume this to be the US release date for the game so far, as no such listings have been found in European regions.
So, with a release date now seemingly set, will you be picking up Mario & Sonic 2014 for your Wii U? And if so – retail or download?

Earlier this year, Sega were one of the companies in attendance at the Vegas Licensing Expo, whilst news did come from the event with regards to Lost World, something has slipped under the radar which has only come to light just now.
During the event, Global License produced a daily newspaper of sorts filled with news from each day, and on the second day, they had a very interesting segment on Sega and the Sonic license brand.
Fans will get a preview of the action with new videogames and merchandise slated to release at the end of this year. With more games and major surprises to follow in 2014.
Whats interesting is the use of language, notice how they say ‘video games’ as apposed to ‘a new videogame’ or ‘a new game.’ Could this be a hint that maybe Sonic will see a number of releases in 2014? As apposed to just Mario & Sochi,’ ‘The Third Game’ as fans have started to call the third nintendo exclusive might get a release in 2014? Maybe we’ll see another game with the blue one other than Sochi and the 3rd game.
Also, major suprises which are not game related? What could they be? Well… there was also advert for the Sonic brand included in the same publication.
Aside from the new renders of the cast, I would direct your attention to the top. In previous adverts since last years licensing events. Sega have used the line “Sonic has appeared in over 60 videogames,” they have never put the annimations/cartoons so dominantly on an advert of this kind. Draw your own conclusions, it’s why we have the comment section.
We’ll keep you upto date with more news as and when we get it.

While owners of Android devices across the Sonic fandom have been busy celebrating the news that endless runner Sonic Dash will indeed be coming to their mobile platform of choice very soon, it seems SEGA have quietly released another little (and belated) surprise on the Google Play store. That’s right, the original Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing – released in 2010 on home consoles and a little while back for iOS devices – is now available to download for Android!
This madcap racer from Sumo Digital stars 13 characters from across SEGA’s history and allows you to compete in 25 missions and 4 grand prix cups. The game costs just £1.60 and you can purchase it from the Google Play store here.
Thanks to SSMB member LukA8 for the find!

Even if you don’t live in Amercia, chances are you’ve heard of Macy’s Thanksgiving parade. Each year the department store Macy’s holds a huge parade through New York featuring a variety of giant floats and balloons of famous characters and heroes from the world of comic books, television and videogames.
Well… guess whose making a return? According to cititour.com, a website to promote events in New York, Sonic will be taking part in this years Macy’s thanksgiving parade, marking three years in a row where Sonic has been in attendance.
However, when asked about this on twitter, Sega said that they didn’t have any news regarding Sonic being in this years Macy’s.

The agency which Sega use to help promote Sonic as a brand here in the UK recently held a ‘christmas open house’ what is that you might ask? Well, Mi-Pr is tasked with helping Sega to promote Sonic here in the UK, their job is to showcase Sonic products to retailers and the press in order to get more orders placed at retail. So the idea behind a christmas house is to decorate a home and fill it with products so retailers and the press can see what it looks like come christmas day and entice people to order products for retail.
The event has since ended, however photos of it are coming to light, and there are one or two interesting bits of information coming out. I should point out, Sonic Lost World was also available to play too, but I cannot find any new information on it.
A selection of Sonic clothing/accessories, Eggman underpants confrimed. If they have those in adult sizes, I might just have to buy several pairs.
If you look at the bottom of the above photo, you can just make out the Sonic pinball game which has been teased every now and again.
This photo both excites and infuriates me. Whilst it doesn’t show anything new, it does show the Sonic product catalogue, but you can’t see inside… Please, Sega, Mi-Pr, somebody, can we get a copy of this so we can actually take a look inside it and know what to spend our money on?
The above picture comes from toybuzz.co.uk. Wilst it shows no new products… it does show a Sonic themed Christmas Cake, I suspect this was made specially for the event.
In addition to the pictures, Pi-Pr also released some infromation regarding a couple of new products to be released later this year, including the prices of the products and retailers who would be stocking them.
The pinball game will be just under £15 and available from The Entertainer, the bike is £120 and from Argos, also a Sonic crash helmet can be purchased for £17 too.

It seems odd that we’re only at the start of July, yet here I am reporting on more merchandise with the year 2014 written on it. According to a listing on Forbidden Planet, Sonic will be getting a calendar for 2014.
The calendar will be released at the end of this month, yes you read that right. Despite it being for 2014, it’s getting a very early release date of Tuesday 30th July. However, Pyramid International, the company making it claims the release date is the end of August, so not sure whats going on there.
The price is also very reasonable at only £6.89. Considering most calendars cost over £10 near christmas, this is one heck of a deal.
No teaser pages were given, just the cover page that you can see above, personally, I really hope there are some original artworks in this one like the ones from the early 90’s which look stunning.
According to the product page on Pyramid International, the size of the calendar is 30X30cm.
So, anyone going to pre-order?

At the start of the year, you might remember how toy maker NKOK dropped hints that they were making a new line of Sonic toys based off Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed? Well following an update to their website, we can confirm that this is indeed the case as well as one or two other suprises.
Their website not only depicts the older toys, but also has listings for several new products, unfortunately none of which had images to acompany them. However, the descriptions give you a very good idea as to what to expect.
Slot Car Racing Toys
Battery Opperated Sonic & Shadow Slot Car Race Set
Battery Opperated Sonic & Tails Slot Car Race Set. (Approximately 8 feet of track)
Hand Crank Generator Sonic & Shadow Super Loop Set (This product is based on ASRT vehicles)
Light & Sound Pullback Vehicles
Pullback ASRT Sonic.
Pullback ASRT Tails.
Pullback ASRT Shadow.
As mentioned before, no images acompany the descriptions, however, the fact that these products are on the website would suggest licensing permission has been granted. No price or release dates were given, however, typically, NKOK toys have been released worldwide.

In a press release regarding yesterday’s Sonic Lost World updates, Nintendo Germany has revealed that all three Nintendo exclusive Sonic games will be released this year. That includes Sonic Lost World for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games for Wii U and the unannounced third title.
The portion of the press release containing this information reads:
Today, they (Sega) revealed further details of the second of three titles, which the two companies will release exclusively on Wii U and 3DS. All three games will be released this year.
With the third title being released the same year as the other two games, could it be a spin-off? A small digital game? Hopefully we’ll find out soon.

*holds hands up* I’ve tried, I promise you I have tried to find out as much as possible with this one, but I’m still at a bit of a loss when it comes to details and specifics. According to a handful or reports online. Sega have been holding a special Sonic event at Benz World. Not heard of Benz World? You know Mercedes Benz? Yes the car, they have a ‘Driving Experience Centre’ at a race course here in the UK. And, for some reason, Sega held a special day there.
Sega had a small presence there during this month in which they had face painting, showed off various Sonic products from the 2013 catalogue as well as Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. One of the more interesting products would be an unannounced Sonic Pinball game which you can see at the top.

Today, SEGA and Nintendo have announced a partnership that will make the Sonic franchise games exclusive to Nintendo platforms for the next three titles.
“Sonic the Hedgehog has proven incredibly successful on Nintendo platforms and we are pleased to continue our long-standing relationship with Nintendo,” said John Cheng, President & COO, SEGA of America. “As we initiate this new exclusive partnership with the next three titles we believe that Wii U(TM) and Nintendo 3DS(TM) are ideal platforms to showcase the evolution of the Sonic brand.”
According to GameIndustryBiz, the partnership includes an as yet unknown game, and involves Nintendo publishing Sonic games in Europe. Lost World will still be published by SEGA in America.

We here at The Sonic Show are an odd bunch, it can not be denied. And when we hear a fan fiction on our friends podcast, VGM:Awesome we knew this would have to become part of our “amazing” work.
We were simply so blown away by the acting on this fanfic reading that we got our team of 5 year olds (aka Jay who is 25) to bring it to life through Disney like animation.

In 2009, I found a youtube video which at the time had only a handful of views, the video showed an old Italian TV advert which was a promotion for Sega and the release of Sonic 1 in Italy. The promotion was basically ‘Buy a Sega Megadrive and get a free pin badge which gives you the chance to win win Sega prizes.’
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViOn4dmuKn0
The advert quickly became quite notorious, mainly due to the ending which featured an out of tune Sonic theme and an animation of a miscoloured Sonic with glowing red eyes pulling a goofy expression. Even TSS featured it, lovingly calling it ‘The Hog with the Death Ray Eyes.’ To date the pin badge is known as ‘The Sonic Baydge’ by various merch collectors and amazingly, they still work as they did back in 1992, when you consider this is over 20 years old, thats quite impressive.
Since 2009 the details of the promotion have remained a bit of a mystery… Until today…

When asked about the current console tradition and how SEGA views the market right now, Einhorn briefly mentions some “very exciting” plans for Sonic in the near future in the below snippet.
Ethan Einhorn: We’re taking, on the console side, more of a pillar approach. We’re doing some very exciting things with Sonic as a brand in the near future. We’re also very heavily focused on strategy, as you’ve seen with our pickup of [Company of Heroes developer] Relic, as well as what we’re doing with [Total War developer] Creative Assembly. A couple of days ago I posted a roundup of all the Sonic related merchandise news I could find at the New York Toy Fair, in that post I mentioned that there was another toy fair in Nuremberg about a week prior and how Sega/Jazwares had a very big Sonic presence, but no photos of the event had come to light… until now.
A fellow merch collector over at Spindash.de was at the event and took a rather large selection of photos, including the contents of the Jazwares booth, which was displaying several toys that have yet to be announced.
Did I mention these photographs are all clear without obstruction? If your curiosity is ready, your wallets might not be.

As mentioned a few days ago, the annual New York Toy Fair (NYTF) was held this week. Why is this a big deal? In the last two years, NYTF booths have had a big Sonic presence at them and this years was no exception. However, unlike previous years in which Jazwares’ booth accidentally (though it wasn’t clear at the time) spoilt the announcement of Sonic Generations, security on unannounced products has been quite tight, very few photographs have been taken of the new merchandise… but that doesn’t mean we didn’t discover a few new things you might find of interest.

Since then there hasn’t been much word on the figures. However, that changed today when Funko showed off their Sonic range at the NY Toy Fair today.

UPDATE: Aaron Webber has confirmed via Twitter that there won’t be any new game announcements at the panel.
You may recall an article we published last month about Ken Pontac being listed on AOD 2013’s website as the writer for an upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog game. Well, we’ve now learned from AOD 2013’s Dominic Nguyen, that Ken will be there as part of a bigger official SEGA Sonic presence.

Aaron Webber, better known as RubyEclipse the associate brand manager for Sega, took to twitter a few hours ago and posted the following image and caption.
“Sonic’s Next Adventure Begins in… The Great State of Texas?”
The destination on the ticket and other photos uploaded suggest that he’s gone to Austin Texas. As for why? Well, unless you take the tweet literally, it could mean anything… Except there is one other significant thing which has happened…
