Sonic Advent Calendar from Jakk’s Pacific coming this Holiday Season

This upcoming holiday season just got a bit merrier thanks to Jakks Pacific. A Christmas collection of the 2-inch Sonic figure line will be arriving in an advent calendar later this year. For those not familiar with what an advent calendar is, it’s usually a large box with tiny gifts inside that you open one per day all December long up until Christmas eve. However, if you’re like me, you’re going to buy the whole box yourself and open them all at once for a nice Christmas display.

The set includes Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Mighty, Ray, and many more including accessories. Some will be in festive outfits and some, like Ray, will make their first appearance in the 2-inch line. The MSRP is currently unknown.

Big thanks to Sonic Merch News for providing the information and first images of the set. Here’s the image of all that comes in the set in a separate link just in case you plan to open this the old-fashioned way and don’t want to be spoiled. Check out the full box image below.

Classic Eggman Figure, First 4, Pez, and Razor Feature New Merch on Sonic Central

One of the highlight’s of today’s Sonic Central was merchandise partnerships currently available and through this fall.

Following last year’s Eggman Robot set, this year’s big Jakks Pacific set is Eggman’s hovercraft with accessories to recreate multiple boss fights.

Razer will be releasing a Sonic themed Xbox series controller with matching charging stand.

EXG Pro, makers of weird statues that hold your phone, will add modern Sonic to their collection. A collection that currently includes Classic Sonic, Classic Tails, Classic Amy Rose, Classic Super Sonic, and two other variants of Classic Sonic.

First 4 Figures will be releasing a duo of character statues, featuring modern Amy and Tails. No details have been stated regarding the scale or price of these statues.

On the much, MUCH more affordable side of merch, Pez has already released a trio of classic Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles dispensers. At time of writing, Knuckles is already sold out on their online store.

Clothing brand Hype released a line of Sonic clothing that is… basically already sold out. You can look at it if you want but the size scale on this line aims at 16 and younger.

Moor Art Gallery will be adding several more poster designs to their… you guessed it, largely sold out collection. They’re nice (and pricey) posters, but be prepared to grab them as soon as they’re in stock.

Neamedia Icons, a resin figure group, currently has available resin 5″ classic Sonic figures on their official store, and (checks notes) they are apparently in stock at time of writing! If you want a monochromatic Sonic for some reason, seems like now’s your time!

Pre-orders for Japanese figure maker Bellfine’s 12″ soft vinyl Sonic figure are available among many online toy stores. Despite the “Available Now,” Bellfine’s website lists the release date as November, and international sellers don’t expect to get stock until early next year.

…No, not again. I can’t handle this again.

At any rate, I think we can all agree, that Eggman hovercraft toy looks really cool, and may have been the highlight of the entire Sonic Central. Look forward to it and maybe some of these other licensed Sonic collectables throughout 2022 and beyond. But not too beyond. The patterns here indicate that things seem to be selling out rather quickly.

You Can Play this McDonald’s Sonic 2 Browser Game With or Without a Happy Meal

Did you know many McDonald’s Happy Meals now come with a QR code to access special features and games? Apparently they do, and you can use one to access this bizarre augmented reality Sonic 2 movie game!

You’ll normally need to buy a Happy Meal with a toy from Paramount’s Sonic 2 movie to get access to this code (in fact, we haven’t quite pinned down if this is a UK exclusive or not), but anyone anywhere can directly jump in via this URL:

https://play.happymealfun.com/1.0.57/

(We don’t know how long this promotion will be available, so if this link is broken in the future, sorry, there’s not much we can do!)

Sonic Cage Dome on Twitter brought this weird novelty to the world’s attention:

The VERY simplistic game has a 3D model of movie Sonic walking along set paths, attempting to collect as many rings as possible before the timer runs out. All the while, your camera lets you inject yourself to look upon this tiny world as if a deity, deciding the fate of the meager creature stalking the corridors of your realm.

And yes, I did have quite a lot of fun making the feature image for this article. Thank you for asking.

First 4 Figures Tease 30th Anniversary Statue

First 4 Figures have today announced the launch of their Sonic the Hedgehog 30th Anniversary statue.

The Statue, modelled on the 30th Anniversary logo depicting modern Sonic leaping through a ring was teased via social media, with the official launch day being pinned as April the 5th, 2022. The statue will be revealed in full via stream (including Youtube) at 16:45 BST.

The only detail currently confirmed by First 4 Figures is that there will be both a standard and exclusive version of the statue available.

Following the launch stream, the statue will become available for pre-order, however the price of the premium item is yet to be confirmed.

In the meantime, fans can also enter a free competition for a chance to win a statue of their own.

More McDonald’s Sonic 2 Happy Meal Toys Leaked

Well, it seems that all but one of the McDonald’s Sonic 2 Happy Meal toys have been leaked.

In an image that was apparently posted on the McDonalds Australia website showed off all but one of the upcoming plastic McDonald’s toys, and has now made its way to Twitter. The image confirms that McDonalds will be producing three Knuckles toys, three Tails toys, two Sonic toys, and a Giant Eggman Robot toy. A tenth “surprise” toy wasn’t shown. You can check the toys out below:

With the movie only a month out, the official unveiling of these toys should be imminent. Perhaps someone over at McDonald’s Australia accidentally pulled the trigger a few days early.

EDIT: Seems the final toy has been leaked via a Youtube video, and is apparently a spoiler. We don’t be posting it here. As we approach the movie’s release, it’ll be more difficult to avoid spoilers on social media, we recommend following these steps.

UK Getting It’s Own Sonic Happy Meal Toys

Last month, most of McDonalds’ upcoming Sonic 2 happy meal toys were leaked. However, the plastic toys will not be coming to the company’s UK and Irish locations, and will instead be replaced by plastic-free toys.

The existence of toys was initially confirmed by a photo posted by a Facebook user, which was then shared to Twitter by Dave Luty. Luty than shared photos of what appears to be packaging for the toys taken off of a computer. The toys appear to be centered on Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. In addition to the toys, the photos also confirm a “book option.”

The person who took the second group of photos Luty posted speculated that the toys were likely paper dioramas and board games. You can check out the photos below:

The UK and Ireland are getting different Sonic toys due to a 2020 pledge from McDonalds UK & Ireland to reduce their use of plastics by eliminating plastic toys, and instead move towards toys made out of paper or cloth. McDonalds as a whole will be phasing out plastic toys by 2025.

We don’t yet know what these toys will be, but once we do we’ll report on it, so stay tuned! Hopefully McDonalds will officially unveil their toys soon.

New Sonic 2 Movie Playset Leaked (Potentially Movie Spoilers Within)

UPDATE: The box art had a rather significant spoiler I missed. Also, Sonic Jenny said Jakks Pacific asked her to remove the images. Given those two things, we’re just going to go ahead and remove the images pre-emptively. We’re currently leaving details regarding what the playset is about, however.

Original Story:

The Sonic 2 movie is now just a month away, and more merchandise has just gotten leaked. Today? A playset centered around the Giant Eggman Robot we first saw in a trailer.

We put up a spoiler warning because the playset potentially hints at something regarding where Sonic will be fighting the robot.

This playset is likely a part of the Jakks Pacific wave 2 that was revealed a few days ago.

These images were posted on Twitter by @SonicJenny, who said it was shared on her Discord server.

Clear Images of Sonic 2 McDonalds Toys Leaked

A few weeks ago, we reported on some leaked images of what are clearly Sonic 2 Mcdonalds toys. Today, even better images of these toys have been leaked, this time including Sonic. This marks first time Sonic has had a Happy Meal toy since those McDonalds LCD games nearly a decade ago.

The images are low-res and their exact function is unclear, though it seems likely that they have some method of being propelled forward. With the movie a little more than a month away, we’ll likely be getting an official unveiling of these toys soon. In addition to these four, there are two others that have yet to be shown. Jakks Pacific Shows Off its Upcoming Sonic 2 Movie Toys

Jakks Pacific has unveiled its upcoming line of Sonic 2 movie toys on social media. Ever wanted to own a toy of the Tornado, or Jim Carrey Robnotnik? Well now you can!

The line-up includes plushies, action figures, the aforementioned Tornado biplane, and Sonic on some sort of skateboard type thing, complete with a giant ring. All of the action figures include some sort of accessory as well. Sonic and Knuckles both have snowboards, while Dr. Robotnik has one of his egg robots and a…coffee cup. Tails, most interestingly, appears to have some sort of gun. Check out the toys below:

These toys will launch in the spring, likely around the same time as the movie’s release on April 8. What are your thoughts on these toys? Tell us in the comments below!

F4F Polling Interest in a Sally Acorn Statue UPDATE: Final Results In

UPDATE: The poll is closed, and the results are in:

The poll received a total of 1047 votes, the most one of these polls have gotten in years. Of those, 800 were yes, which is also the highest amount any character has gotten in years. That means yes won with 76.4% of the vote, placing her in the top 12 of all time, just ahead of Horizon Zero Dawn’s Aloy.

So what happens next? Who knows. As we said in the original article, there is no guarantee a Sally statue will get made, even with really good numbers. Chief among them, even if F4F decides it wants to make a statue, SEGA itself still needs to say yes.

Looking at previous polling winners, like NiGHTS into Dreams’ Reala, it will likely be years before a statue is available, if one even gets made.

Original story below:

More than five years since she last appeared in the Sonic comics, Princess Sally Acorn may finally have a shot at a new piece of merchandise via high-end collectibles maker First4Figures. F4F is currently running a poll asking its community whether or not they would pre-order a Sally Acorn statue. This is a weekly poll called “Thursday Temptations,” wherein F4F tests community interest in various characters. While the results of a poll do not guarantee the creation of a statue, F4F will at least explore doing something with the character if the numbers are strong enough.

As of this writing, the yeses are winning with 73% of the vote, 578 to 217. While those may seem like small numbers, that’s actually the most votes any character has gotten in this poll in years. The poll is set to run through Wednesday, though participants will need to join F4F’s Facebook community in order to vote.

There’s more to this than simply convincing F4F to make a Sally statue. According to Ian Flynn, who has long been boosting efforts to bring the character (and the other Freedom Fighters) back into the Sonic franchise, getting a statue would also simply be “big” for the character.

If you would pre-order a Sally Acorn statue, you can vote for the character here. We’ll update this post with the final results on Thursday.

RUMOR: Sonic 2 Happy Meal Toys Coming Soon?

It’s been almost two decades since Sonic and friends have been part of a McDonald’s Happy Meal promotion, but it looks like Sonic will be returning to the Golden Arches very soon. Yesterday, several images hit Twitter showing three (out of six) Sonic 2 Happy Meal toys. Tails, Knuckles, and a yet unknown Eggman robot. The images were quickly taken down due to a copyright claim.

Now, McDonald’s just started a Stitch Happy Meal promotion, so if this is true, don’t expect to see the toys for a few weeks, and it may depend on what country you are in. While we’re putting this under rumor, the images being taken down quickly due to a copyright strike would suggest that they could be the real deal.

LEGO Ideas Sonic Set Pictures Leaked, We Break Down the Differences

Earlier this year, LEGO and SEGA officially revealed that Toastergrl’s Sonic Mania-themed LEGO Ideas set had been approved for production. Now, a number of Twitter accounts are posting leaked images of what is believed to be the final version of the set:

You probably noticed right away that the design has changed a fair bit from what was originally pitched on LEGO Ideas:

It’s quite common for a set to go through significant revisions between the Ideas version and the final released version. Often times, it is to follow the license holder’s suggestions or requirements, to fit within what is reasonable for LEGO to manufacture, or to ensure the design can be made and sold at a reasonable price. The LEGO Ideas Sesame Street set is a good example of this:

Left: Original Ideas pitch, 2945 pieces; Right: Final release, 1367 pieces

In the case of the Sonic Mania set, the most immediate difference is that it has dropped the Sonic Mania connection in favor of more generalized Sonic 1 branding, however it looks like several other tangible designs have been changed:

  • The retail version actually uses MORE bricks than the original pitch. Toastergrl’s design touts about 700 pieces, while the box states 1125 pieces.
  • Toastergrl’s design has slight dimensionality to it, but the retail design emulates the 2D level design of classic Sonic games. You can even see a Lives icon in the bottom left of the model.
  • There are no longer any Hard Boiled Heavy figures, flickys or the giant Eggman Robot.
  • There are, however, floating rings, the Eggman hovercraft, a Crabmeat, and a checkpoint post.
  • The Phantom Ruby is gone, but you do get a full set of Chaos Emeralds.
  • The Green Hill checkerboard pattern has been scaled down. The Ideas design builds each square 2-bricks wide, but the retail set reduces it to 1-brick wide (and possibly made of 1×1 tiles?). It also appears that the tall sides of the loop are either printed or stickered pieces.
  • The item boxes are slightly chunkier now, using 2×2 tiles to show the screen instead of printing it on 1×2 bricks.
  • The places where the grass transitions into the walls now do so using specially printed 1×4 tiles and quarter-circle tiles.
  • Instead of using pin-connected technic pieces, the bridge is now much more flat and solid. The log design is made of 1×1 round plates. The water underneath is now made of transparent bricks.
  • The spring has been made flatter. The back of the box seems to imply there’s still a mechanism to make it bounce though.
  • The sunflower has been redesigned with a little more detail.
  • Sonic’s minifig Looks much more like his LEGO Dimensions version, but without the green eyes. He has full-sized legs instead of the Toastergrl design’s short legs. He also appears to have a more traditional bright blue, instead of the slightly muted blue SEGA uses to differentiate classic and modern Sonic.
  • Motobug’s face is rather similar to the original design, but its body is now bigger with more round components and details. It also seems to have a secondary face to make it look angry.
  • Eggman’s body looks mostly unchanged, though his face has been altered in kind of a weird way. It uses plates sticking out at diagonals with wedges to make his mustache, and a nose sticking out front. This change makes it look a bit awkward, but it’s always possible LEGO doesn’t have a great process to print his nose on a 2×1 plate with handle bars like in the original design.

What hasn’t changed is that the set still appears to be modular, per the pins sticking out on the right side. While LEGO very rarely expands Ideas sets into full-blown themes, the ability to connect it to other sets does seem to suggest they may have further plans for Sonic. There’s no indication on the box that this set in itself breaks apart into level chunks.

Further stoking the speculation, rumors have surfaced this year that LEGO may be launching special “Gaming” branding for certain themes, such as their Overwatch line or the recently leaked Horizon: Zero Dawn Tallneck. They also continue to update their Minecraft and Super Mario themes, with new sets of each planned for early next year.
