I’ve put my copy of Sonic Classic Collection down for five miuntes to show you my third and final favourite entry for the Bentley Jones So Much More Video Competition. As you’ve probably guessed, most of my faves have centred on videos where the entrants have roped their mates in to get involved, and this one is no different – Club 9 have banded together in this rather artsy and albeit silly video in which they mime their way through the track, or stand around looking moody. It’s filmed in really high quality, it’s fun to watch, and half the band are called Ryan (ok, so the last one’s not really a selling point). Plus, the guy on the sound board is mental.
Again, I think this is a real contender for top spot in the competition, and in true T-Bird style will send them a goodie bag as consolation should they fail to make the top 10 entries.
Watch out though, the band do start loosing clothes towards the end of the video. Form an orderly queue please ladies.
EDIT: Damn! I keep finding more awesome entries! Check out the Bentley Bird!

Have you ever wondered how Jazwares make all of their finely crafted Sonic merchandise? Well wonder no more as SEGA of America’s Kellie has obtained all of the answers along with concept art and photos from Joe Amaro who works in Jazwares Product Development department.
Topics discussed are concepts, prototypes, approval, where the toys are made, fan input and even Joe’s favorite character. You can check out the Q&A and pictures at SEGA of America’s blog but you may want to get yourself some refreshments as it’s a very long interview.

Ok, so a couple of weeks back we were treated to a sneaky peak at some DLC for Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing on the XBox 360 over on the SEGA Blognik. I set a little task to go about doodling on the avatar in a no-holds barred contest to basically make as humorous an entry as possible. Well as per usual at the promise of free goodies, the entries came in their masses, which were whittled down to just a handful. The TSS staff then had a look, and out of the selection we picked a winner…the quality of the entries was so spectacular, that I think they deserve a mention here too…
3RD PLACE: MUSHROOM 64
It looks like Sonic is taking a real pounding! Genius! Mushroom 64 is the proud winner of a First4Figures mini Knuckles figurine!
2ND PLACE: Adamis
It looks like two wheels are better than four! Big is leading the pack! I think the bias for anything Big related shone through here! Again, hillarious! Adamis is the proud winner of a First4Figures mini Sonic figurine!
WINNER: T. Brockmüller
…OK, so I’m out of ASR quotes….but Rotor’s face cracks me up in this last frame. Also, SatAM really does not get enough love! Props to you Mr. Brockmüller – you are the proud receipient of a SEGA Prize Europe Sonic plush!
All winners please send your postal details to the competition email address, and I’ll get your prizes out to you! A big thumbs up to all of the other competitors…keep an eye out for more competitions in the future!

Nintendo Power subscriber Illuminou_Orb over at the SSMB has just received the latest issue and has kindly scanned up the promised Sonic 4 interview which as an added bonus also contains plenty of new screenshots from Splash Hill Zone. The interview with Takashi Iizuka confirms fan favourite Jun Senoue will be the music director for this game so we know the music is in very good hands.
Thanks to Illuminous_Orb for providing the scans at the SSMB.

Sonic 4 has seen more high profile leaks than SEGA would have liked but the marketing for the game looks set to officially kick into high gear soon as the first news of a magazine featuring a preview has been uncovered. As revealed in their latest issue (54, April 2010) the UK’s Official Nintendo Magazine will have screenshots and impressions of Sonic 4 next month. The magazine will be out on the 9th April so in you live in the UK you can pick it up then or you can rely on TSS to give you the down-low. Thanks to MK Skillz of the SSMB for the heads up!

UPDATE: In a post at TSSZ correcting a statement made in an article regarding the upcoming ASR patch Steve Lycett has revealed the patch will not only prepare the game for DLC and fix some problems but will also give Xbox 360 and PS3 owners the ability to access the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace in-game. Steve also reassures fans that the update will be released soon.
You won’t have to pay for the update – that’s going to go out free. It purely add’s support for us to do DLC and provides in-game access to the PSN store and XBLA marketplace. As a bonus, it’s allowed us to address a few concerns players are having to boot.
End of that day, sometimes things get missed, despite extensive testing. It does work for the majority of users, just there are fringe cases where it doesn’t. We know why and it’s fixed now, update not too far off.

/UPDATE END
There have been reports from some but not all PS3 owners of Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing including myself claiming that the Dreamarena Trophy will not unlock. The bronze Trophy is described as “Play with a Friend online.” but despite many efforts it still wont unlock but now you can put your worries to rest as Sumo Digital have discovered the cause of this problem.
In a post at the official SEGA forums Steve Lycett Executive Producer at Sumo Digital had this to say –
I’ve been looking for the thread of this…
We are looking at it, especially as we’ve figured out why it doesn’t work for some folk. It’ll be sorted soon…

A member at the SEGA forums has received the following e-mail response from a query they sent in about the problem but doesn’t state their source be it a rep from Sumo Digital or a SEGA rep. Here is the response –
just to let you know i got a reply today..
“Thanks for your email. We’ve been looking into reports with an issue with the Dreamarena trophy. It seems depending where the player exists in your friends list, sometimes this may not trigger.
We are looking to release an update to support new DLC in the near future, our plan is to include some new code to address this.
Apologies for the problem you’re having, hopefully we’ll have the update out soon and it should make this work as expected!”
Yiippeee hopefully it will be fixed soon!
Also of interest is the mention that the patch will enable the game to support the earlier reported to be coming sooner rather than later DLC, so anyone worried that the DLC will just be an unlock key for content already on the disc can now rest assured that this will be pure and fresh new content.
We’ll keep an eye out for the patch and any further information regarding this and DLC then update you here.

Chart-Track has updated today with last weks game sales, week ending 6th March. Last weeks chart update the game had only been on sale for a couple of days but today with a full week on sale in the UK we can now get a better idea of how well the game is doing and its very positive.
Here is the full list of places each version charted in –
Top 40 all-formats 5th place
Top 40 DS 1st place
Top 40 Wii 2nd place
Top 20 PC Didn’t make the full price or budget titles chart
Top 30 PS3 6th place
Top 40 Xbox 360 6th place
All in all the game looks to be quite popular and despite Mario Kart Wii and DS the game has been selling very well on those platforms with the DS making the top spot. We’ll check back with Chart-Track next week to see if the DS version can hold its place at the top of the chart and wether the other versions will be able to hold their high positions or maybe even do better.

UPDATE 3:
More info from the same NeoGAF member –
Some more info…
While Sonic 4 will have shields, Episode 1 will only include the one hit shield. Just enough to help get your rings to the end of the stage.
Izuka says the reason they went episodic is that the game is too big to smaller hard drives (Wii and iPhone likely?) to fit in all at once and he didn’t see players paying $60 for a 2-D Sonic game on disc. (Hellllooo. New Super Mario Bros Wii anyone?!!)
Thanks to Dusk the Biohazard Keeper at the SSMB for the heads up.
UPDATE 2: Game Informer screenshots confirm the reports at NeoGAF and also reveal tunnels from the classic series are back thanks to JasonTheJackass for sending us the screenshots.
UPDATE: We’ve got word in that Game Informer magazine also have a Sonic 4 interview with Takashi Iizuka according to a member at NeoGAF who claims to have a copy –
Game Informer interviewed Izuka who gave some new info on the game. Highlights include..
What about Tails and Knuckles you ask? “Fans will be very pleased with the cast in episode 2.”
Episode 1 is a prologue.
Moves include: Spin Dash, Rolling Attack, homing attack and a new move yet unknown.
About homing attack: “I wanted the user to enjoy an easy-to-play feeling by the attack sequence that this [homing attack] allows, and find the fun routes in the air.”
Classic special stages make a return.
Hornet Badnik. (Forget his name. Not Buzzbomber) Shown in screen shots.
Other screenshot shows Sonic smash though a wall that becomes a bunch of checkered bricks.
Another screenshot shows Sonic grabbing a handrail which goes across a wire. (Very Advance)XP
No floaty LBP physics. Classic Sonic Gameplay, classic Sonic speed. Says Izuka.
Not 3-D, but all CG pre-render.
Gamers will get classic “try again” ending if not successful at getting all emeralds. If you get all emeralds, you get cliffhanger ending for episode 2.
“If Sonic 4’s return to form (there they go again. ) is the Sonic experience you have been waiting 16 years for, then we strongly encourage you to try this.”
Thanks to Doctor Eggman at the SSMB and JasontheJackass in this articles comments for the heads up.

According to subscribers of Nintendo Power the U.S. official Nintendo magazine the latest issue contains an interview about Sonic 4 but no details further than that have been given as of yet. A scan of the magazine cover supports the fact it does indeed contain something Sonic 4 related. If you have the issue we’d appreciate it if you could send us any new information revealed to shadzter@sonicstadium.org and we’ll credit you in this article.
In other news the magazine has reviewed Sonic Classic Collection for DS and given it a score of 7/10.

It’s Thursday and it’s 7PM GMT so what does that mean? You’re right, it’s the official Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode 1 webpage content unlock. What goodies do SEGA have in store for us this time? More in game Badnik art and Concept art? Correct again. This time it’s a “new” version of Marble Garden’s floating spiky fish thing; Bubbles. So yeah, it looks like the dude from Sonic 3 but more so. The description seemingly reveals the global recession has also hit Eggman so “budget cuts” mean some versions of the Badnik don’t even have spikes. I swear I’m not making that up. We are warned about the “Red Ones” though, which sounds like a more vicious variant. Check out the website for full sized images and hold on tight for next weeks update of, you got it, more Badnik and Concept art!

OK, so a few weeks ago I saw an entry for the Bentley Jones So Much More Video Contest by Sonictoast that blew my hat off my head, with live action, stop motion, and a bloke dressed as Eggman. Well, today I spotted a nifty bit of art appear on BJ’s facebook page. Perousing facetube following a series of links turned up this cover of So Much more by a band called “Freen In Green”, which gives the track an Indie makeover – percussion, bass, rhythm and melody guitars, and of course some vocalz. 75% of band appear to be hiding off camera / behind hair, but I guess that’s forgiven because there’s a pretty good attempt at the solo! Anyway, this is another spiffing example of what you can do to really sweep away the competition and do something original, as well as have fun with your mateys (because it’ cool to show you have friends!). Anyway, I think this has made it onto my list of entries where “if it doesn’t place I will bear my backside in Fenwick’s window“. I like to put my money where my mouth is, so Yamino, if you don’t place in the winners, I will send you a consolation prize!

Oh, and they also have an account on facebook too!
You’ve only have until Friday (5th of March 2010) to get your entries in, so if you haven’t done so yet, you’ve got a busy couple of days ahead of you! If you spot any good entries, lets us know in the comments!

We all know Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 is a joint venture between Sonic Team and Dimps but what about Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2? We’ve barely seen much of Episode 1 but the staff over at Xbox360Achievements.org are already looking into Episode 2 according to a new listing at their site in which they have the below info.
Episode 2 listing –
Developed By:
Dimps
Published By:
SEGA
Genre:
Platformer
Release Date:
US:
Europe:
Japan:
ESRB: E for Everyone
Episode 1 listing –
Developed By:
Sonic Team/Dimps
Published By:
SEGA
Genre:
Platformer
Release Date:
US:
Europe:
Japan:
So as you can see there is a difference in developers, if the site has got this right then Episode 2 will be a Dimps solo project and the game looks to have already been given its ESRB rating too which to no surprise is an E but oddly they havent listed Episode 1’s E rating we’ve known about for ages.
Take all of this with a very teency pinch of salt for now, we’ll let you know if we hear anything more.

Released just 5 days ago in Europe the EU PAL Wii version of Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing has already been hacked by the Wii game hacking community who are giving themselves benefits to use in online races such as abilities to always hold items and which of those items they would like to use at their will among many other things.
I for one found a hacker online earlier today hosting a room who in races would blast off ahead at incredible speeds, wait at the finish line for everyone on the last lap before oddly allowing everyone to cross the line before him/her then in other races simply win as quick as possible.
If more hackers do the rounds in online play this could become a large problem for Wii players searching for a fair game online. The online feature is part of Nintendo’s free service but game fans may well feel shortchanged from their purchase of the title if these hackers ruin the experience. We’ll keep an eye on this issue and update you if things become better or worse.
Note: We dont condone the hacking of games and so we’re not disclosing our source or info about our source.

While sorting out “merch mountain” on my day off today I’ve been crusing youtube for my usual selection of heavy metal, Bentley Jones contest entries (still waiting for more killers!)…and eventually I came to this. A lot of you will already know of back2s0ul on youtube already, but this looks like it’s fairly new. The animation is fab and fluid, the choice of tune is catchy (Good ol’ Junior Senior, and this video seems to fit in quite well with their acid trip style of video) and there’s also a nod to the Sonic OVA.What more could you ask for. Why are you still reading! Watch the video…and perhaps this one too…over, and over, and over…
