You might be a bit too distracted watching Sonic Prime on Netflix to notice right now but, SEGA HARDlight has also released a launch trailer for the companion game from Netflix Games, called Sonic Prime Dash.
The game was announced during the Sonic Central 2023 showcase last month, which actually feels like a year or so ago now. As you might expect, it’s Sonic Dash, featuring Sonic Prime characters. If you have a Netflix subscription, it’s a free download, so we imagine a lot of the grinding required of the original free-to-play Sonic Dash will be reduced or removed entirely. We’ll see!
Check out the cool trailer above, which SEGA HARDlight posted on their social media channel linked below, and why not download it and play while you sit on your couch watching the rest of Sonic Prime Season 2, eh?

Love playing Sonic Dash but absolutely hated having to collect (and lose) all of those tokens in order to feel like you were progressing through the character roster? Well hate no more, because SEGA HARDlight has announced it will be revamping its character reward system by introducing new ‘character cards’.
The idea is this: players grab Character Cards that appear on the track (in much the same way as Character Tokens before), but these items will then go into a special collection where you will get to keep them forever. Meaning that it will only be a matter of time before you earn enough cards to unlock and upgrade your characters.
According to the announcement from HARDlight, there will be four rarities of card available – Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary, with Legendary cards only being available during special events.
It sounds an awful lot like the system in place for the mobile developer’s other game, Sonic Forces Speed Battle – which is a system that makes sense, so it’s good that HARDlight is integrating it into its older Dash title to keep things up to date.
The Character Card update will be released on Thursday July 13th.

The popular mobile endless running game, Sonic Dash, will be getting a ‘Sonic Prime’ themed lick of paint and re-released for Netflix customers under the name “Sonic Prime Dash”.
Announced during the Sonic Central showcase earlier today, Sonic Prime Dash will feature everything that you already know and love about the existing SEGA HARDlight game – which first launched in 2013 – but will take character designs from the Netflix animated series.
Not a lot of extra information was revealed at the time of announcement, but hey. If it’s more Sonic Dash, that’s good enough for us. This new version of the game will launch alongside the upcoming ‘new season’ of Sonic Prime, on July 13. If you’re subscribed to Netflix, then you’ll automatically have access to this game via the Netflix Games service.

This morning’s Sonic Central brought a few mobile game update announcements for new characters and what could technically be called a new game by the loosest possible definition.
Sonic Prime Dash
Netflix is getting an exclusive version of Sonic Dash, titled “Sonic Prime Dash.” The game will launch in July with the new season of the show, and features characters from the show. However, all stages appear to be the same as the ones from regular Sonic Dash, so don’t expect it to be significantly different. More information in our separate news story for it, here.
Super Silver in Dash/Speed Battle
Super Silver already hit both Sonic Dash and Sonic Forces: Speed Battle. In Dash, he has about 5 days remaining, and will be available until the 29th in Speed Battle.
Monster Dragon Hunter Lancelot
Shadow’s medieval getup was previously available in Speed Battle, but will hit Sonic Dash/Dash+ in July.
Classic Super Sonic
No specifics given, but Classic Super Sonic was teased for upcoming events in Sonic mobile games. The last time we’ve seen polygonal Classic Sonic go Super was in 2011’s Sonic Generations.
Sonic’s Got a New Hat in Roblox
Sonic Speed Simulator on Roblox (the one that, you know, is dealing with some things) will be adding a new skin featuring Classic Sonic in an open tux, jaunty top hat, and classy shoes.
No Sign Yet of HARDlight’s “Narrative Driven” Game

After casually announcing it without much fanfare, SEGA HARDlight has shadow-dropped the dates for its newest Sonic Forces and Sonic Dash characters, Popstar Amy and Rockstar Rouge. And what’s more, you can start working towards unlocking one of these new players right now!
Tucked away in its community Discord channel, SEGA HARDlight revealed via its Events Calendar that the first event in the ‘World Tour’ series has begun today. Popstar Amy has arrived in Sonic Forces: Speed Battle, and if you want to keep her as an active competitor you must collect a number of character tokens in order to have her on the roster.
We also know the cadence of the rest of the ‘World Tour’ events, too. Once Popstar Amy ends on 20 April, Rockstar Rouge will be available for a limited time in Sonic Forces until 27 April. Then the two characters move on to Sonic Dash, with Popstar Amy available between 20 – 26 April and Rockstar Rouge taking the stage from 27 April until 02 May.

Nuckles87 also spent some time in Sonic Dash and Sonic Forces: Speed Battle for the Sonic 2 movie events, and brought us gameplay footage of Movie Tails and Movie Knuckles:
Starting next week, we’ll be uploading the archive of another of our streaming series, Winter Wonderworld, where GX begrudgingly plods his way through the entirety of Balan Wonderworld. Each in the nine-episode series will go live Thursdays at 12:00 PM EST.

Another Sonic game is coming to Apple’s game subscription service, Apple Arcade, at some point in the near future. Little else is currently known about it, but if its anything like Sonic’s previous game on the platform, Sonic Racing, it will likely just be a conversion of vanilla Sonic Dash with all of the micro-transactions and ads removed. Neither of these elements are allowed in games on the service. Whether Sonic Dash+ has anything unique, we’ll just have to wait and see.
Check out the tweet below for the announcement, and for the link that’ll let you sign up to be notified when the game is available.

Sonic Forces isn’t the only mobile Sonic game getting new tie-in content for the Sonic 2 movie, as Sonic Dash is also getting some new stuff to celebrate the movie’s release. Sonic Dash has a brand new track based off of Sonic 2, and will eventually have events that will unlock both Movie Tails and Movie Knuckles. Movie Sonic can currently be unlocked, which will be the first chance players have had to unlock the character since the first movie’s release. Longclaw will also be unlockable again at a later date.
Throughout the event, movie items can also be collected daily for prizes. According to SonicWindBlue, this new movie track will be a permanent addition to the game, unlike the track made to promote the first movie. You can check out Movie Tails and Movie Knuckles in the graphic below:

In a very weird month for the Sonic Dash series, data mining has revealed the latest version update includes event assets for pirate versions of Sonic and Shadow, as well as Bongo, the Danimals mascot.
Version History 4.20.0 May 10, 2021 Ahoy! We have a double surprise lined up for a very special birthday this year! Keep a look out for our upcoming swashbuckling event!
But, as we all know, if the data is in there, data miners will find it, and we quickly got confirmation of two events included:
Sonic Dash has had some unusual promotional character choices throughout its long, long life, including the likes of Pac-Man, Hello Kitty, the Angry Birds, Longclaw, Teen Sonic, Baby Sonic, and Tangle & Whisper. However, I’m comfortable saying that that Bongo’s haunting stare may the least predictable and most visually startling guest character, even more than Andronic.
Look out for these events being officially added to Sonic Dash soon.

According to SEGA’s latest annual report, Sonic has now moved roughly 1.14 billion games. That’s a 200 million unit increase since 2018, demonstrating that the blue blur still hasn’t slowed down despite the lack of games.

Even after seven years, Sonic Dash is still getting significant content and character updates. And with this latest news it’s clear to see why – SEGA Hardlight’s mobile auto-runner is a huge cash cow, earning nearly $11 million since its initial release – reportedly more revenue than the last five Sonic mobile games combined. While Tangle and Whisper will be coming to Sonic Forces: Mobile very soon, Tangle herself is available in Sonic Dash today! This lightfooted lemur is the first playable Sonic character taken from the comics and not from the games themselves (Sally and the Freedom Fighters had a non-playable cameo in Sonic Spinball). Tangle is playable by unlocking 500 Tangle tokens in an event going on all this week. Shouldn’t take players too long to unlock her as a good player can nab 20+ tokens per game easy.
The event only lasts a week, so make sure you get in some time on Sonic Dash soon!
UPDATE: Check out footage of Tangle in action below:

Sonic’s mobile games have been focused on making more Sonic characters playable for years now, making deeper and deeper cuts into the game canon. Now, Hardlight seems to be mining Sonic’s IDW comics for new characters, according to data uncovered by Twitter user Bluwolfboy. He dug into the latest build of the Android version of Sonic Dash, and uncovered two new characters: Tangle the Lemur and Whisper the Wolf! These two characters were introduced early on in Sonic’s IDW run, and became so popular the soon got their own four-part mini series!
Bluwolfboy uncovered fully 3D models and character icons. They also posted proof that the characters are in the data, and Tails Channel was able to independently verify it themselves.
This is a major milestone, not just for IDW Sonic, but for Sonic comics in general. Aside from the Freedom Fighter’s cameos in Sonic Spinball, and a few canceled games, this marks the first time Sonic comics characters have been present in a game! That said, we’re probably still a long way off from any members of the Archie cast popping up in anything.
You can check out Tangle and Whisper’s game assets below. If you want access to the actual models, check out the source at the bottom of the page! Obviously, it is currently not known when these characters will be available, but given they are in the data we probably won’t be waiting too long!

Recently, there was a charity racing event in which several game studios took part, including Sumo Digital and Sega’s HARDlight studio. Each studio brought a special customised car, and HARDlight’s car was themed on Sonic Dash.
Well the event is over, and most (if not all) of the cars are now up for sale!
Yes, you can now own an official Sonic car!
Currently, the vehicle is at £360, which is a lot cheaper than some other pieces of Sonic merch! The vehicles are local pickup only, but all the money raised will go to Special Effect, so check out those bus times if you happen to put in the winning bid.
Sumo Digital are also selling their vehicle too, a Sumo Digital branded Subaru Impreza Turbo.
Remember how I wrote a month ago about what exactly do we do with all these epic promotional items? Well, now is your chance to save something quite epic and a genuine one off! The links to both auctions can be found at the end of this article. We wish Special Effect all the best with their auctions.

SEGA HARDlight will be revving their engines this weekend!
A team from the company behind the mobile app Sonic Dash will be taking part in the Twin Town Challenge 2018 using their Sonic Dash car, a refurbished 1999 BMW 528i.
The race sees 100 cars, comprised entirely from suped-up “bangers” purchased for £500 or less, drive from Oxfordshire in the UK to Le Touquet, France, all the way taking part in challenges.
All competitors raise money for SpecialEffect, a charity who specialise in developing gaming technologies for disabled children.
You can support the team by making a donation via their Just Giving donation link…and if you’d love to own the “Dash-mobile”, the car will be auctioned after the race with the proceeds also going to charity!
Check out the gallery below for some images of the car and the team before they set off on this wacky race!

Boy this is really turning into one of those weeks isn’t it? In a move which nobody saw coming, Sega and Rovio have partnered together to announce that Angry Birds are coming to Sonic Dash in a special one off event.
The event starts today and will run for three weeks, featuring a different Angry Bird from Angry Birds Epic each week, including Red ‘Knight,’ Chuck ‘Mage,’ and Bomb ‘Pirate.’ During the game, players can collect special Angry Birds Epic tokens to unlock featured characters. Once a character is successfully unlocked, it will remain playable following the close of the event.
Curiously, Hardlight have removed all traces of the event from their social media outlets yet a press release has still been sent out, it reads as follows.
