A new listing has appeared at a few online retailers such as Amazon that reveals Cookie Jar Entertainment will be releasing a DVD compilation on January 4th 2011 featuring episodes from Sonic’s original three cartoon series Sonic the Hedgehog (AKA SatAM), Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Underground. The compilation is titled “Sonic Mega Mix“, and according to retailer Future Shop it will contain one disc with a running time of 155 minutes. Future Shop also says the DVD is region locked at Region 1, so fans outside of the U.S. looking to import this will need a multi-region DVD player to run it.
No information is available regarding which episodes or how many will feature on the DVD, but at 155 minutes you can expect about 6 episodes total. As for price, Amazon is listing it at $9.99, Barnes & Noble at $9.01 and Future Shop at $5.99 Canadian.

We’ve all been here before, but someone has designs to pitch an idea to SEGA/DiC/the powers that be to invest in a revival of arguably the greatest Sonic cartoon, SatAM. This ‘someone’ however appears to be a chap called Matthew Sullivan, who has worked on The Simpsons, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy and Family Guy, so he at least has some credentials.
Posting the image above in the Fans United for SatAM forums, Matt is preparing a pitch that he hopes will kickstart a new series of the classic Saturday morning show, with the hopeful inclusion of writer Ben Hurst. He makes no guarantee that this pitch will work, but as a fan himself states that he will try his damndest.
We wish you all the best Matt – if you have any questions he’s opened the floor on the FUS forums so give him our regards there.

Wired are reporting that a new Sonic Underground DVD volume 1 is now available containing the first 20 episodes and with new extra’s like a Greatest Hits cd, a music video jukebox and concept art.
A search on Amazon.com finds a Sonic Underground DVD released Dec 18th 2007, no specific releated info to the article is there though but with the release date it’s most likely the one.
Amazon.co.uk finds nothing new.

Penpen2nd of the Bumbleking Forums recently received an e-mail from the anime DVD seller/publisher Right Stuf that the Sonic X DVDs have been “marked for close out”, and will be discontinued as soon as it’s sold out.
I was recently able to confirm this with their customer support. This means that these DVDs may soon start disappearing from store shelves for good. If you want them, you’d best pick them up now. As far as I know, this only applies to North America, or wherever Funimation distributes the DVDs.
Sonic X will be airing in reruns as part of 4KidTV’s Saturday morning line up this fall.

Just recently it was confirmed that the 1993 animated series, The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, would finally see the light of day on DVD. Shout! Factory, who recently also released other Sonic the Hedgehog series (SatAM) have neared completion of the new DVD set and TVShowsOnDVD.com have reported some exciting new details about the much anticipated release.
The new information confirms the release will be a four disc set containing the first 22 episodes and is to be released on July 17th . Two bonus featurettes “How to Draw Sonic the Hedgehog” and “A Conversation with Artist Milton Knight” will also be included. The DVD set is currently available on pre-order from Amazon for $22.49 (Regular SRP $29.99)
For many Sonic fans The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog is considered the most enjoyable (albeit light) animated series, and thanks to this release they will now have an alternative to the DVDs of questionable legality from Korea that circulate eBay infrequently.

The “Sonic the Hedgehog” (SatAM) cartoon series boxset is reportedly already available at at least one Best Buy store.
According to Perfect Chaos, a staff member at the Sonic Fan Games Headquarters, the DVD boxset is now available to buy at a local store. It is not officially due for release until Monday the 27th of March, so this may be a mistake on the store’s part.
Quexinos (aka Sonique) of site Fans United for SatAM has reported that another Best Buy store is also selling the set. If you’ve been waiting for this DVD set and are near a Best Buy, you could do a lot worse than to head over there and see if it’s there yet.

Sonic fans have been extremely lucky lately with SatAM finally making the jump to DVD, however it seems the prayers from the other side of the fan base have been answered – Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog may soon see a DVD release as indicated by a new listing on Amazon.
The new listing details a four disc box set to be released on July 17th for an RRP of $29.99 and an Amazon list price of $22.49. Curiously enough Sony Music are listed as the studio behind the DVD release, however a quick search of their website turned up no information.
Will we be seeing Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog on DVD stateside any time soon? Stay with SONIC NEWS for the latest on this developing story.

You read the title right. Sonic’s original saturday morning cartoon show, “Sonic the Hedgehog”, which first aired on ABC in September of 1993, is finally coming to DVD in it’s entire 26 episode long run.
Sonic the Hedgehog, known by it’s fans as “SatAm”, has traveled a long, hard road the last couple of years. The original DVD released in 2002, called “Super Sonic”, contained 5 episodes (counting the hidden episode) from the first season, and was to be a precursor to an entire box set.
That box set was never meant to be, however, as it was cancelled in 2004 for unknown reasons, although it is widely beleived that it was Sega itself that held the box set back. Continue reading Sonic the Hedgehog coming to DVD in early 2007

Ryan Drummond, voice actor for Sonic the Hedgehog in the SONICTEAM games for the last five years, has revealed to the Sonic community about his replacement by Jason Griffith from the ‘SONIC X’ cast.
In an email he has sent to fans ahead of his monthly newsletter on RyanDrummond.com, Drummond has explained how SEGA made a decision to replace the entire Game Voiceover Cast of the Sonic games with the Voiceover Cast from the US Dub ‘SONIC X’ cartoon, without letting him know about it. In a shock, if perhaps inevitable direction by the ‘House of Sonic’, the company felt that the move would maintain a level of continuity between the games and other products, such as the cartoon series. AoStH voice actor and blues legend Long John Baldry has died in hospital on July 21st after suffering from a long-term chest infection. He was 64 years old.
Baldry had been battling chest problems for four months. Born in England – and being one of the pioneers of British Rn’B (Rhythm and Blues) – he became a Canadian citizen in 1981. He was admitted to Vancouver hospital in early March and was reported to have been in a critical condition in April, which turned out to be false. Continue reading Long John Baldry Dies

With the amount of money spent on video games, and being home to two of the biggest gaming developers in the world, you’d be forgiven for thinking the UK was actually a third-world country when it comes to the industry. Particularly for Sonic merchandise, where material on the blue blur besides games have all but dried up in comparison to other countries.
One of the biggest conspiracy theories was regarding the lack of a domestic release of the Sonic X cartoon on DVD. Despite having DVD releases in Australia and Holland as long as eight months ago, there had been no word in the (regular, brown) hedgehog haven that is Britain. Continue reading UK Sonic X DVDs

Following our report yesterday from various sources, Long John Baldry is recovering well from his treatment in Canada for respiratory problems.
SONIC NEWS learned from various sources yesterday that the blues legend, who was the voice actor for Dr. Robotnik in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, was in a “critical condition”. Some reports had even stated he had died.
Despite the report from SONIC NEWS perhaps being the closest on Baldry’s “stable” condition, the singer was reportedly “peeved” at various British media sources for laying outrageous claims on his health.

Blues singer and Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog voice actor, Long John Baldry, has been admitted to hospital with a viral infection, that has reportedly damaged his lungs.
Baldry has recently been hospitalised in London with lung problems. In March he returned to his home in Vancouver, but ended up requiring further treatment. According to spokespeople at Vancouver General Hospital, he is currently in intensive care in a stable condition.
Sonic fans will remember the star as the voice of Doctor Robotnik in US TV Show, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, where he provided evidently the best rendition of the belligerent dictator. Outside the fandom, he has helped bring the likes of Rod Stewart and Elton John to stardom in the music industry.
This disconcerting news follows the sad passing of fellow ‘Eggman’ voice actor, Deem Bristow. Sonic News gives its deepest regards to John and family, and hopes his condition improves soon.

Well, as most people in the UK know, CiTV were showing Sonic X on Wednesdays. Cool, but a bit of a bugger after Fox Kids decided to show it 4:30pm every day a week or so ago.
Episode 13 has passed and gone, and it seems both Fox Kids and CiTV don’t want to go past it, as Fox Kids are already showing repeats.
CiTV will be showing reruns of Sonic X starting Monday at 3:40pm every day, AND it won’t be the 5-minute cut version. It will be the 25 minute long, as-long-as-the-US-version… version.
Who knows if FK and CiTV plan on showing more? I reckon CiTV are playing a set of reruns to attract people who missed out the first time, or just want to see the extra ‘uncut’ version, then continuing the series. Which would be a good idea.

Today is the 10th Anniversary of SatAM, some recognize it as the best of the Sonic cartoons and to celebrate this day, Ronic Warihog sent me the below email.
Hello. My name is Ronic Warihog, and I have some news for you on a special day for the Sonic Community.
As some of you may know, today is the 10th Anniversary of the debut of ABC’s ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ SatAM animated series. It is the show that forever changed the perception of the Sonic world, and while the games were primarily for SEGA fans, the SatAM helped to bring Sonic into mainstream society. It also changed the path of the comics to one of respectability, and became one of the most powerful animated series of all time.
I would like to extend my personal thanks to all 182 individuals who worked on the SatAM, and all of those who have supported the show, past and present. Without the support, the SatAM would probably have been forgotten long ago.
