Sonic Generations Joins Xbox 360 Classics Range in PAL Territories

Sonic Generations Xbox 360 Classics

Sonic Generations has quietly joined the Xbox 360 Classics range this month (March 1st to be precise), a status awarded by Microsoft to games that reach an unknown high sales number. Along with this status comes a budget price; in fact the below UK retailers are selling the game for as little as £12.99, so if you’re still on the fence, there’s no better time to snatch it up.

GAME: £12.99
Sainsbury’s Entertainment: £14.99
Amazon Marketplace: From £16.30

Mega Drive Classic Sonic 1 Coming to iOS & Android, Sonic 2 Also Planned

Sonic 1 Android 2 width=

SEGA has announced at GDC 2013 that the classic Mega Drive title that kickstarted their mascot’s career Sonic the Hedgehog will be released for iOS and Android in April. The game will cost $2.99, run at 60FPS and will include a new time attack mode, widescreen support and a completely remastered soundtrack. Android Police reports that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is also planned for release on Android too, but SEGA didn’t give any details.

Christian Whitehead, who made the recent Sonic CD port, made this tweet to a follower on March 23rd. (Thanks, TimmiT)

Those feels, I’m preparing a build for GDC and I won’t even be there.

Could he be behind this port?

SS:R Needs You! We’re Looking For DJs!

Now, as some of you may know, we here at SEGASonic:Radio have been toying with the idea of a full on relaunch for an unbelievably long time now… All we’ve had consistently running through our airwaves as the station’s activity all but shut down were Biafra Republic’s A/V Hijack and TurboXLR’s Turbo Drive Live… However, I am happy to inform you that the fabled relaunch is finally upon us, and but we need your help!

There have been quite a few changes going on behind the scenes, some of which I can publicly disclose. One: I, VizardJeffhog, have inherited the position of Station Manager from BlitzChris, leaving me in charge of all things SS:R. Two: EAR (who you might recall as one of the musicians behind the Sonic Stadium Music Adventure series, the man behind the Mad Rabbit Podcast, and a talented DJ over on KSBR 85.5′s The Mix as well as OC Rock Radio’s Monday Night Meltdown) has recently accepted a position here and joined our happy family!

And four! …no, wait a minute… Three! You. Yeah, you! No, not the one sitting next to you (well, maybe him/her too)! You’re here because you absolutely love music, right? You’re here because you love the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, right? Do you think you have the same passion as myself, Biafra, Turbo, EAR, Blitz, and Speedknux? Do you have the capability to be a team player with the rest of us? Well, good! Because we’re looking for folks like you!

SEGASonic:Radio is scouting for volunteer DJs to help keep that ball of music rolling around at the speed of sound. If you think you have what it takes to audition, continue on after the jump for more details!

Here are the qualities we are looking for in a potential DJ:

  • The ability to speak fluent and coherent English, accent not withstanding as long as it’s understandable;
  • A dedicated yet sensible passion for music and/or for SEGA (or other!);
  • The availability and drive to broadcast an hour-long show on a weekly basis;
  • The initiative of providing their own unique flavour and make SS:R a better station than it ever was;
  • The capability to be confident, be cool, be wild, and be groovy!

In order to audition, you will need to submit the following:

  1. A profile that includes your name and a little about yourself;
  2. A paragraph pitching your show – this includes the show’s name, what it is about, and an explanation from you as to why you think it suits SS:R perfectly. Don’t be general in explaining your show, be detailed;
  3. Times of availability. Not an obligation at first, but we will want to know when you are usually free and can do your show, so that scheduling will be an easier task;
  4. A 10 minute demo of your show, and by your show, I mean you talking. Send us a 10 minute recording/mp3 of you “hosting” your show as if you were on air: that way, you can give us a better idea as to how your segment will work. Explaining your show is all nice, but we want to hear you! No better way to demonstrate your theory than with practice, right?
  5. Lastly, an investment of, I don’t know, 100 Gems. Mmm… yes.

And finally, to clarify:

  • If your show contains multiple hosts, you know what they say: the more, the merrier! There are no restrictions on there being more than one person running a show, but be careful: make sure your friend(s) are as into this as you are! No point in a show if not everyone’s on board!
  • Your recording must be authentic. That means no tweaking, no alterations, no filtering, no cuts, no nothing, or you will be disqualified, and you will be ignored for the rest of the auditioning period. You can’t change the way you sound with Audacity while you’re on air, so don’t bullshit your audition with falsities! Don’t tell us we didn’t warn you!
  • Before you throw in your hat for “Sonic music”, let me stop you right there. SS:R is, basically, that at heart, and most of our shows revolve around this idea (with each their own flair, at least), so more of the same might not tickle our fancy. Be unique with your show! This is your chance to make SS:R a diverse listening environment! Just… if you’re doing non-SEGA/Sonic, don’t expect us to give you the music you’re looking for (e.g. “i’m doing mario but i don’t have that soundtrack can you get it for me plzthx”). We look after each other, but the rest of the team won’t necessarily do your work for you when it comes to external material. Your resources, your problem!
  • That being said, don’t go overboard. Make sure that it’s the kind of show you can actually manage – don’t try to run one that you’d grow tired of or don’t have enough material for. Really, if there’s any place you shouldn’t do the impossible, it’s here. Your show must be fun, doable, and lasting!
  • What makes a good DJ is one who knows how to manage his/her time, one who’s a team player, and in our case, one who has a stable internet connection! Being active in social media, thus interacting with listeners, is a plus!
  • Finally, the SEGASonic:Radio server on The Sonic Stadium is Icecast-based. If you’re one of the chosen, be sure to have the streaming software/freeware necessary to broadcast your show. If not, don’t panic, we’ll help! Rest assured that we’ll go over everything with you to make sure you can run your show no problem!

The deadline is April 16th 2013, which is three solid weeks from now. That is plenty of time for you to get your stuff together and send us your auditions. When you’re all finished, submit your entries to us via competition@sonicstadium.org, with the subject header “SS:R DJ Audition” or some variation thereof! As soon as it is received, I will notify you and provide you with extra details on how the process will go down.

Once April 16th has passed, the audition period will be over, and no future submissions will be accepted. The other DJs and I will then go through all of your entries and start picking apart favourites, so make sure yours stands out – that’s what we’re looking for. After we pick them out, I will announce the winners via the front page, and the chosen will be initiated through a good old fashioned locker room towel-whipping! That’s what happened last time, heeheehee!

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to drop a comment.

That being said, many will enter… Three will succeed. Good luck to all of you!

Mash-Up Monday: Pull Over (That Metal Too Fast)

Some of you might know of an anime/light novel series called Chūnibyō Demo Koi ga Shitai!… If not, then you might at least know of Rikka Takanashi, one of the lead characters, who has gained some amount of internet fame through a short video featuring her spinning her fingers and shaking her hindquarters to Trina’s Pull Over.

TripleKyun then had the brilliant idea of mashing the entire track with Stardust Speedway Bad Future JP, as it was arranged in Sonic Generations! For Mash-Up Monday, with plenty of finger wagging from Metal Sonic and Rikka, here is Pull Over (That Metal Too Fast)!

If you have a mash-up of your own, or found one you find should have a spot on the front page, you know where to send it! Hit me up at vizardjeffhog@sonicstadium.org!

New ASRT Patch Goes Live Monday

The updates feature lots of tucks and tweaks, should address many of the issues you’ve reported to us and also pull in improvements we’ve been doing on PC. Don’t expect any extra tracks or characters though, just before you ask…!

Those are the words of Executive Producer Steve Lycett on the Sega forums yesterday. The PS3 & Xbox 360 versions of the game are to get a second patch next Monday which will follow a little later on the Wii-U.

No patch notes have been released just yet. However from the language used, (“tucks and tweaks”) it sounds like as well as a bug fix, the patch might also alter some of the balancing or even difficulty of the game.

SegaSky’s TOP 5: Games You Love, That Are REALLY TERRIBLE.

The Sonic Show’s Top 5 series is one that is annually spun out of its grave to test the community and see if it can get by without upsetting anyone.

This time folks seems to be no different either, as Skyler aka SegaSky aka this guy, takes the helm to discuss the Sonic games that the community defend so hard depsite maybe not being all that a bag of chips.

Ken Balough Bids Farewell to SEGA

ken_interview1-515x280

Chances are if you’ve kept your finger on the pulse of the Sonic community over the past half decade, you’ll have encountered this character – SEGA’s Digital Brand Manager, Ken Balough. Ken is probably best known for being one of the most prominent spokespeople representing SEGA during the promotion of both Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episodes 1 and 2, for trailblazing fan engagement with the SEGA Community team, as well as his mean sense of humour.

Yesterday, Ken announced in a statement on the SEGA forums that he would be leaving his position at SEGA to join the team at Sony Playstation.

Freak-Out Friday: Tales of a Bananular Existence Part 1

I think this is gonna be the one Freak-Out Friday to end them all! …metaphorically speaking, of course.

Today, I dedicate this segment to a particular Sonic character who has not received as big a limelight as many would want him to have in the main series. You can’t have Team Sonic without the one who’s rougher than the rest of them, the best of them, tougher than leather: the one we call Knuckles!

TSS Review: Sonic Dash (iOS)

Following close in the wake of Sonic Jump, Sonic Dash seems like an obvious choice in format for a portable Sonic game; an endless runner for a hedgehog who is reknowned for running. On this basis, Sonic Dash can be forgiven for being a near carbon-copy of the popular Temple Run… in fact it is slightly surprising SEGA hadn’t thought of this idea earlier! Mash-Up Monday: Bill Nye Panic Zone

This is just another one of those things I can’t tell whether they’re Freak-Out Friday worthy or Mash-Up Monday worthy.

Then again, this is a mash-up of Panic Puppet of Sonic 3D Blast fame and the theme of Bill Nye the Science Guy, put together by Rushnerd… And I mean Jun Senoue’s Panic Puppet from the Genesis version (then used for Twinkle Cart in Sonic Adventure), mind you.

Oh, and it’s not just Bill Nye’s theme, but it also uses clips from the show itself as well!

…you know what? Monday it is! Here you go, some science-y stuff to start la semaine because why not?

Tails Adventure and Crystal Warriors Rated in Australia

Tails Adventure Game Gear Box Art

Tails Adventure could be on its way to the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console, if a rating made by the Australian Ratings Board is any indication. The Game Gear game, one of two titles Tails stars in on the platform, was rated March 4th with SEGA Europe as publisher, suggesting the game could be on its way to Australia and Europe soon. RPG game Crystal Warriors, released recently in Japan, has also been rated.

We’ll keep an eye out for further developments.

RUMOUR: Episode 3 to be Announced at E3?

TouchGamerCommentTouchGameplay recently uploaded a 13-minute long gameplay trailer for SEGA and Hardlight’s upcoming mobile game, Sonic Dash. So why am I telling you this again? Well, what’s interesting is the above comment made on the video by TouchGameplay. They claim to know that SEGA are currently working on a ‘new 2.5D Sonic game’ due to be released this year, which would fit nicely into the category of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 3. Of course, it could be a completely different main-series game or it could be pure speculation. Who knows?

Excited? I’m sure you are! As always, we’ll keep you updated with all the latest as soon as we hear it!

Sonic Dash Gameplay Trailer, Screenshots Emerge

TouchGameplay has just uploaded footage of Hardlight Studio’s recent efforts, Sonic Dash, set to release on iOS devices tomorrow!

SEGA’s newest mobile game, inspired by endless runner titles such as Temple Run, pits Sonic and his friends against an infinite obstacle course where you jump, avoid, spin, and dash through enemies and objects.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucbhL3kubVQ

This is exactly the kind of game I expect to become addicting really, really quickly. The graphics, the music, and the fitting nature of the game… it’s gorgeous!

Screenshots have also been uploaded on Sonic Dash‘s New Zealand iTunes page, which you can observe after the jump! Eh? Eh? See what I… okay.

Sonic Comic Review: Sonic Universe #46-#49 “Chaotix Quest”

CQ01

Ian Flynn’s story arcs in Sonic Universe have always been very hit or miss. From fun epics like “The Tails Adventure” and “Team Treasure Tango” to mediocre or awful dreck (IMHO) like “The Silver Saga” and “30 Years Later”, the quality of the stories can vary greatly. Of course, part of this is subjective depending partially on whether it features a favorite character or not as that can affect your enjoyment of the book.

That said, “Chaotix Quest” has personally become my absolute favorite arc so far. Not just because it was a well told story featuring one of my favorite Sonic trios, but every element was done to perfection. It balances action, drama, humor and emotions in a way I haven’t seen a story do in a long time. Where any gripes I had were the just the slightest of nitpicks. Keep reading to find out why I loved this story so much.

Report: Sonic Dash Launches on the App Store This Thursday

SonicDash

SEGA weren’t kidding when they said Sonic Dash will be released “soon”, if a report from Pocket Gamer France is to be believed. The website, which revealed a bunch of details about the game on Friday, claims Sonic Dash will be released on the App Store this Thursday. With SEGA only formally unveiling the game today with bare bones details and some artwork, many wouldn’t expect a release so soon. iOS games are often released about two weeks after their announcement and SEGA hasn’t even shown any screenshots or video footage of it.

Looking back, though, SEGA did list it in that Hardlight Studio job advertisement last week as a past success, like the game is complete and ready to go.

Sega has officially announced Sonic Dash for all iOS devices and is coming “soon”. Hardlight Studios, the team behind Sonic Jump, is once again at the helm of this Sonic game (so expect micro transactions.) Not many details have been mentioned so far, but it sounds very much like a 3D infinite runner not unlike Temple Run and it’s expected to include leaderboards as well.
