Sonic 2 Releases Tomorrow on Digital/Paramount+, with New Animated Short

If you’ve been waiting to watch Sonic 2 from the comfort of your home, wait no longer! …Well, wait a little longer. Just a little though.

And sure, that’s all well and good, but if you’re like me, these releases aren’t about the movies, they’re about the special features, and according to the iTunes listing (when viewed within iTunes), there are some solid bonuses here, including deleted scenes, a behind the scenes featurette, Q&A with Sonic’s voice actor Ben Schwartz, and most significantly, a new animated short!

UPDATE: A brief clip from Entertainment Tonight shows off quality animation, and a non-Elba voice voice swap for Knuckles:

No word yet on if these will hit Paramount+ or the disc release (it probably will, but we don’t have confirmation), so keep an eye out, and once again enjoy that one scene where Knuckles misinterprets a lighthearted thing in a deathly serious manner.

Thanks to tailsBOOM! for the news tip and Shigs for the video link!

You Can Now Download Hyper Potions’ “Friends” from the Sonic Mania Opening

“Porta Vista,” “Checkpoint,” and “Time Trials.” Hyper Potions have become synonymous with promotional Sonic music over the past year, and their contributions to the brand have finally reached a head with Sonic Mania‘s release tomorrow on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

The opening animation to the highly anticipated throwback to the classics (of which you can read our TSS review with Svend and Adam here) was accompanied by Ian and Kevin’s newest nostalgia-inducing single: “Friends.” The full version of the track made its debut alongside the opening’s unveiling, and today, it is now up for grabs on digital markets such as iTunes and Google Play.

(UPDATE: And the US Google Play store) Sonic Runners removed from the US iTunes store

runners2

UPDATE: Operationgamer17 points out that apparently it’s been gone since at least yesterday as of when TSSZ first mentioned it on their twitter. Also, Ming Ming Yuigahama clarified that the game is actually not on the US Google Play store either (I misunderstood that part, my mistake) and even snapped a screencap of what she sees when you access it:

0UtTmLB

And she points out in the same post that this is not so unusual and may simply come back on Monday. We’ll see what happens. Also I forgot to mention that Komodin first brought that part up. Thanks again go to both for the clarification.

###

It has come to our attention that Sonic Runners has been removed from the US iTunes store. This was first brought up on our forum by Operationgamer17. Our own writer VEDJ-F afterward mentions that it’s still up on the UK Google Play store, and another member Soni mentions it’s still up on the Canadian iTunes store.

Another member Ming Ming Yuigahama also linked to and confirmed that the game, while indeed gone from the US iTunes store (the link now redirects you to the iTunes store if you have it installed saying it’s not available), is still available on the iTunes store in the UK, Canada, and Japan. Ming Ming Yuighama also shows that the game is still up in the US Google Play store under “SEGA Corporation”.

So far we have no idea what the reason is for the game’s removal from the US iTunes store. We’ll have a follow-up report if we hear more.

Thanks goes to all the users mentioned above for their help in checking the stores to see if the game is still available in their respective regions.

Volume 2 of the Sonic Runners Soundtrack is Now Available on iTunes and Amazon!

SonicRunners2OST

To celebrate Sonic’s 24th anniversary, SEGA was internally working on their own take on the endless runner genre with their new mobile game, Sonic Runners. While the game was released early in smaller markets for testing, it finally dropped internationally on iOS and Android devices towards the end of June, and with it came the release of the first volume of the game’s soundtrack.

And now, just in time for Christmas, the EP-length Sonic Runners: Original Soundtrack Vol. 2 has finally arrived on digital streaming services!

The second volume, like the first, is solely composed by Tomoya Ohtani himself, and is mainly comprised of some of the music featured in recent in-game events – unsurprisingly, the music is gorgeous and an absolute blast to listen to, making the second volume a must-have for any Sonic OST fan’s library.

The track listing is as follows:

  1. “Going My Way” (1:01)
  2. “Go Quickly!” (3:09)
  3. “Fiery Passion” (3:34)
  4. “End of the Summer” (3:48)
  5. “Strange Parade” (3:42)
  6. “Magical Snow Day” (4:11)
  7. “Ambition” (3:54)

The second volume is available now on iTunes (UK / US) and Amazon (UK / US), with individual tracks costing £0.79 / $0.99 a pop. If you choose to get the entire 7-track album right away, the price sits at an affordable £5.53 / $6.93 – with Vol. 2 sounding as beautiful as it does, it’s an absolute steal!

Planning on downloading this gem for yourself? If you’ve already bought the album, which track is your favourite of the bunch? Sound off below!

“Passion & Pride” and “It Doesn’t Matter” Remix now on UK iTunes

Making love to that guitar

Sonic music lovers, get ready to rock! As we reported not long ago, a brand new album titled “Passion & Pride: Anthems with Attitude” featuring a collection of music from the Sonic Adventure era was set for release in Japan – but now it’s made its way across the waters (or rather, across the internet) to the rest of the world too!

That’s right, if you’re happy to forgo a physical disc and avoid all the hassle of pre-ordering from Japan, you can now download yourself a copy of this new compilation from iTunes. The album is split into two separate volumes – Vox Collection and Instrumental Collection – which cost £7.99 apiece, or 79p for individual tracks if you don’t want the lot. The track listing for these albums is as follows:

Vox Collection

  1. It Doesn’t Matter (Sonic Adventure)
  2. Believe in Myself (Sonic Adventure)
  3. Unknown from M.E. (Sonic Adventure)
  4. My Sweet Passion
  5. Lazy Days -Livin’ in Paradise-
  6. Theme of Dr. Eggman
  7. Theme of E-102 Gamma
  8. It Doesn’t Matter (Sonic Adventure 2)
  9. Believe in Myself (Sonic Adventure 2)
  10. Unknown from M.E. (Sonic Adventure 2)
  11. Throw It All Away
  12. E.G.G.M.A.N.
  13. Fly in the Freedom

Instrumental Collection

  1. It Doesn’t Matter (Sonic Adventure)
  2. Believe in Myself (Sonic Adventure)
  3. Unknown from M.E. (Sonic Adventure)
  4. My Sweet Passion
  5. Lazy Days -Livin’ in Paradise-
  6. It Doesn’t Matter (Sonic Adventure 2)
  7. Believe in Myself (Sonic Adventure 2)
  8. Unknown from M.E. (Sonic Adventure 2)
  9. Throw It All Away
  10. E.G.G.M.A.N.
  11. Fly in the Freedom

Now, eagle eyed readers will notice that one track, the much anticipated “It Doesn’t Matter” 2014 remix from Tony Harnell and Jun Senoue – arguably the biggest draw of the entire album – is missing from these digital releases. Well, fear not! You can download the remix on iTunes as well – it’s just listed as its own individual single (priced at 99p) rather than being bundled in with either of the albums. A strange decision, but at least we still get it!

Music: Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed OST Cruises In

ASR Transformed Xbox.com screenshots 12

Are you tired of the same old boring routine of “just” driving around with that gosh darn newfangled hip-pop, and kids with their ol’ timey Top 25 Songs of the Week that you’ve been hearing week after week before? Do you need something new to spice up your time behind the wheel? Well, strap in your seatbelt and hit the pedal to the metal, because we’ve got just the thing!

An official soundtrack release for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Sumo Digital’s multiplatform racing game with transformable vehicles, racers and race tracks commemorating SEGA’s history and numerous franchises, and a killer OST arranged by the one and only Richard Jacques, has gone live on iTunes and Amazon. The sound collection has been split into two albums with 34 tracks in each, one volume priced at the reasonable 9.99$/£7.99/8,99 €/¥1,600 online.

SASRT_OST

“But Vizard! That means there are only 68 songs total, right? Doesn’t Transformed have more tunes in-game in comparison? Who should we mark as Missing on the sides of milk cartons?!”

For those curious, the only missing tracks from the actual game are the All-Star themes to guest characters Wreck-It Ralph and Danica Patrick, and those of the PC exclusive, Xbox Avatar, and Nintendo Mii characters, as well as certain jingles, but, save for that, the complete soundtrack to the core experience is all there, present and accounted for, for you to enjoy! Boost your acceleration with Ocean View, drift along to Burning Depths, speed past other drivers with Race of Ages, headbang along to Adder’s Lair, and so on!

On a serious note, however, don’t actually do any of those things. Except buying the soundtrack. Yes. That’s okay. Listening to it while driving is okay too. Remember, eyes on the road, be courteous to your fellow drivers, and obey the speed limit! This isn’t a video game, this is real life, baby!

Sonic Lost World OST out now on iTunes

lostworldostwithoutboundaries

“Without Boundaries”, the original soundtrack for Sonic Lost World, was released in Japan as a physical 3 CD set last week. However, in a surprising move for those of us in other regions, SEGA has revealed via their blog that the soundtrack can also now be downloaded via iTunes and Amazon MP3.

You can download all 93 tracks digitally, one disc at a time. Each disc, or ‘volume’, will set you back £7.99 (meaning the total cost of the OST comes to £23.97) or you can purchase individual tracks for 79p apiece.

TSS Review: Sonic Dash (iOS)

Following close in the wake of Sonic Jump, Sonic Dash seems like an obvious choice in format for a portable Sonic game; an endless runner for a hedgehog who is reknowned for running. On this basis, Sonic Dash can be forgiven for being a near carbon-copy of the popular Temple Run… in fact it is slightly surprising SEGA hadn’t thought of this idea earlier! Sonic Dash Gameplay Trailer, Screenshots Emerge

TouchGameplay has just uploaded footage of Hardlight Studio’s recent efforts, Sonic Dash, set to release on iOS devices tomorrow!

SEGA’s newest mobile game, inspired by endless runner titles such as Temple Run, pits Sonic and his friends against an infinite obstacle course where you jump, avoid, spin, and dash through enemies and objects.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucbhL3kubVQ

This is exactly the kind of game I expect to become addicting really, really quickly. The graphics, the music, and the fitting nature of the game… it’s gorgeous!

Screenshots have also been uploaded on Sonic Dash‘s New Zealand iTunes page, which you can observe after the jump! Eh? Eh? See what I… okay.

Special thanks to Seraphinprincess for the tip!

Sonic Underground Now On iTunes

sonicundergrounditunes

Depending on your outlook, if you’ve not seen Sonic Underground before, that might be considered a good thing. It’s no secret that the show wasn’t that great. But if you’ve ever had a desire to see the show today is your ‘lucky’ day.

Series 1 & 2 of Sonic Underground is now available to download on iTunes. So if you’ve never seen the series before and feel like giving it a shot, by all means head over to iTunes and download away. Episodes are priced at $1.99 each and each volume (20 episodes) can be bought for $27.99. I probably should point out here that the entire 40 episodes are available on DVD and can be purchased for much less than that.

Also as a side note, Sonic Underground will also be getting a ‘conclusion’ in Sonic Universe #50 later this year.

Merry Christmas! SEGA Soundtracks Finally Available on iTunes Canada and Australia!

My fellow Canadians, and to my good Australian friends… the dark days are over.

CHRISTMAS IS FREAKING REAL.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg!

I am pleased and downright tearful to announce that SEGA soundtracks have finally expanded their presence to other iTunes territories! While the US, most European nations, and Japan have gotten each digital soundtrack release as they came, many of us were forced to sit idly by as more and more OSTs just went on by and missed us. As of now, those days have finally come to an end!

Confirmed as of now for Canada and Australia, most – if not all – of SEGA’s expansive repertoire on iTunes can now be purchased! In the mood for Sonic Rush sounds? You can finally get what u need! If you think you’re dreaming (and I don’t blame you), try looking up both NiGHTS into Dreams and NiGHTS: Journey into Dreams – they’re on there! Still can’t understand this concept? Then turn your attention to the tunes of Jet Set Radio and see for yourself!

A complete list of available SEGA OSTs are up after the jump!

Dreamy Sonic Team OSTs Soar onto iTunes

And I honestly hope your wallets are ready for them.

The folks at SEGA are working on double time as of late. From the North American premiere of Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph last weekend, where the blue blur made numerous cameos, and with Sumo Digital’s Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed on the way this month, some would expect that that would be all from SEGA for the upcoming holidays. With everyone’s attention elsewhere, SEGA has quietly released numerous soundtracks onto the iTunes market.

Available for select regions, specifically the US, Japan, and most of Europe, the onslaught of soundtrack releases began last week with Sonic the Hedgehog Original Soundtrack and Sonic Unleashed Original Soundtrack: Planetary Pieces. Eager fans of Sonic Unleashed and Sonic 2006‘s music may now procure the complete soundtrack to both games!

And today (by EST standards, mind you!), I was notified by TRiPPY of NightsintoDreams.com that NiGHTS into dreams… Perfect Album and NiGHTS: Journey into Dreams Original Soundtrack have both snuck onto the digital music marketplace as well! The timing is perfect, considering that NiGHTS into Dreams saw an upgraded rerelease onto XBLA and PSN worldwide just last month (which, if you haven’t bought and played already, you should)!

Sonic Colors Soundtrack…Available In North America & Europe!

Earlier this week we reported on the Sonic Colors Soundtrack VIVID SOUNDS X HYBRID COLORS getting a digital release in Japan with no sign of release in the west…well…be disappointed no more!

As of today, VIVID SOUNDS X HYBRID COLORS is available to download from iTunes in North America and Europe! Not only this, the price of the soundtrack has scaled with the market!

The Soundtrack is again released in 3 volumes, each disc costing £7.99/$9.99 to download. “A great price!”, you say, but are you only after specific tracks? Then don’t worry! You can buy individual tracks from the iTunes store for the bargain price of 0.99p / $0.99! Yes! That means you can have your fill of Cash Cash for the price of a hamburger!

So whether you fancy just reaching for the stars for a quid, or downloading the whole experience for £24/$30, iTunes will let you do so, at a much reduced price to importing the physical soundtrack.

To check out the tracks available follow this link.

So, will you be purchasing any of these tracks from iTunes? Let us know in the comments!

Sonic Colors Soundtrack Available On ITunes?

With older Sonic the Hedgehog soundtracks becoming more scarce and difficult to obtain, along with newer releases frequently only being available to Japanese markets, the cry from fans for Sonic music to be available for download has become greater in recent years.  This is set to change however, with the announcement that the Sonic Colors Official soundtrack album VIVID SOUNDS X HYBRID COLORS will be available from the 26th of this month for download from iTunes.

However don’t jump for joy just yet; the album will only be available to the Japanese market in which Wave Master Entertainment (long time Sonic OST publishers) operate, meaning Western markets will be no closer to getting Sonic soundtracks on general release (although there are ways in which to buy through the Japanese iTunes). Unfortunately the soundtrack does not come cheap; the album is sold in three volumes each costing ¥1500 ($19/£12), with individual tracks being unavailable for purchase. Some fans may find this deal not to be worthwhile, with the physical 3-CD soundtrack costing ¥300 less than downloading all three volumes. Those looking only to purchase the title “Reach for the Stars” by Cash Cash will also be disappointed.

VIVID SOUNDS X HYBRID COLORS is still available for import through CD Japan for ¥4200 ($48), although expect to pay appropriate shipping charges and import tax. Although it may appear that the west is no further forward into getting similar releases to this, it is certainly a step in the right direction.
