Sega re-designs its website

Sega have released a brand spanking new UK website. The website has a glossy white look to it and changes backgrounds to suit the game your currently looking at. The site is also alot simpler and easy to use than the old European site. Best of all the website loads quicker.

Sonic City, the European official Sonic site which has been completely down for a while has now updated with a maintennance message so that may be up again soon. The Sega Blogs, including the Sonic Blognik, are also down at the moment. Could this be something Sega are going to officially unveil at their gamer day?

You can check out the new Sega UK website at www.sega.co.uk

UPDATE: Sega have also released a new version of the U.S. site aswell as other regions sites too that look’s the same as the new UK one. Thanks to Dr. SEGA Monkey at the SSMB for the tip.

ArchangelUK has presented the European website to the much aniticipated game Sega Superstars Tennis. There’s not much on there now but AAUK promises more features like full character profiles will be implemented soon.

The most interesting feature listed on the site is the ‘Story’ section which isn’t active at the moment and the most pleasing news on the site is its revelation that the game will now be released in Europe on the 20th March instead of the originally sheduled date of the 28th March.

ArchangelUK also announced that he will be putting up half of an overview of the Xbox 360 Achievements list soon.

Sonic Riders Zero Gravity European release date confirmed

Sega Europe’s overview of the game –
“New gravity-altering powers can transform walls into tracks, or create a “black hole” that sucks players through for the ultimate speed boost, and allows for an entirely new way to gain a leg up on your competitors. Continue reading Sonic Riders Zero Gravity European release date confirmed

NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams delay confirmed

It’s been long speculated that NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams for the Wii was going to be delayed at least a month. Going by the date changes at several retail outlets, that appears to be the case.

GameStop, Amazon, and Best Buy all have the game listed for a December 18th, 2007 release. The game was originally supposed to see an October release, before an “overhaul” saw the game pushed back to November 13th, 2007. While dates on retail websites are hardly an end all, be all confirmation, a date change like this from several completely different retailers is about as good as an official confirmation from SEGA.

So be sure to mark your calenders, people. Or just pre-order the game from one the links I so graciously provided.

As a side note for our UK readers, Amazon.co.uk has NiGHTS listed for a December 21st, 2007 release, so you might not have to wait quite as long as the rest of Europe, which is scheduled to get the game in early 2008.

Naturally, if the date changes, we’ll make an update about it.

Finally, I would like to apologize for my lack of news updates lately, as I’ve been a bit busy.

PLAY Magazine: Sonic Riders Sequel Details

The English Playstation 2 magazine PLAY have featured a Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity article in the September issue of the magazine! The article divulges several details, not least of all the fact that Jet the Hawk (Of original Sonic Riders fame) is set to return alongside a few more new yet currently unrevealed characters.

According to the 2-page preview’s text regarding the story, Sonic the Hedgehog himself discovers an odd artifact that contains the power to alter gravity itself (Possibly alluded to in the game’s title), sparking the interest of his Extreme gear rival Jet the hawk. Naturally, a clash breaks out between the two over dominance of the mysterious artifact, leading them to settle their score over a few Extreme gear races across such courses known as ‘Botanical kingdom’ and Crimson Crater’, the former being the first stage and the latter being the second. Sonic ’06: PC Release Confusion

If you’ve been reading many gaming websites or magazines (here and here) lately, you’d be forgiven for thinking that SEGA/THQ and plenty of reputable magazines had confirmed a PC release of Sonic the Hedgehog 06.

Fan ‘theshadowofsonic’ wrote to SEGA Europe asking when the PC version may be released after realising it hadn’t hit store shelves. Both a Finnish magazine and Finnish store website had stated 28th Feb 2007 as the release date, with the former saying it was confirmed by SEGA.

The response received, as many SSMB’ers probably know by now, was as follows:

I’m afraid that at this time there are no plans for a PC version of Sonic the Hedgehog. I have seen this advertised on a few sites but I’m afraid that the information is not accurate.Continue reading Sonic ’06: PC Release Confusion

Sonic 06: Very Hard Mode UK and US-bound

In the first of three downloads, SEGA has released Very Hard Mode on to the Xbox Live Marketplace for 200 points ($4) for each character. For 200 points, you can purchase Sonic’s, Shadow’s, or Silver’s Very Hard Mode.

You may be wondering if it’s worth it, though? Though their are lots of changes in enemy numbers and item locations, here’s the biggest differences in Very Hard Mode to the original:

  • You now play Wave Ocean in reverse and must jump to the platforms on your own during the whale chase scene.
  • Sonic now plays Dusty Desert on his own (without Elise).
  • Silver’s Crisis City is now way longer with no Blaze section.
  • Sonic’s Flame Core is reversed.

PAL: SONIC The Hedgehog Hits Top Ten

Let’s face it, SONIC The Hedgehog has fought an uphill battle since the first critical impressions leaked out in early November. This, however, it seems has not managed to slow Sonic at all, with the new title reaching top ten XBox 360 sales charts in the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

In the United Kingdom, SONIC The Hedgehog has fallen from it’s position in ninth place last week to a still reputable tenth place.

1 Gears of War
2 Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas
3 Call of Duty 3
4 Pro Evolution Soccer 6
5 FIFA 07
6 WWE Smackdown! Vs. RAW 2007

PAL Sonic Advance Double Packs

Last week we brought you news of upcoming Sonic Advance GameBoy Advance double packs, which were all until now confirmed only for their US and Japanese release. In a press release just hours ago from THQ it was confirmed these packs would be released shortly in PAL territories. The clincher for the deal, and what is sure to frighten even the most hardened of collectors is that no less than six different double packs, seven if you consider ChuChu Rocket, all to be released during November.

The seven different combinations are:
Sonic Advance + Sonic Battle
Sonic Advance + Sonic Pinball Party
Sonic Advance + ChuChu Rocket!
Columns Crown + ChuChu Rocket!
Sonic Pinball Party + Sonic Battle

Sonic goes Mobile in Europe

With the advent of DoCoMo i-mode phones in Japan offering a huge catalogue of SEGA developed mobile titles, and the increasing popularity of the SEGA Mobile division in the US, you’d be forgiven for wondering what’s happened to the mobile situation in Europe. An irony, given that the UK is one of the most mobile crazy countries, coming second only next to Japan itself.

Fret no longer for your mobile gaming delights, as no sooner do we finally get the joys of Pacman on our Nokias and Siemens, than SEGA Europe announces an “assault on the mobile gaming market” on their website. Eight SEGA titles are to be launched for a range of mobile phones, provided by partners iFone. You can expect the original Sonic the Hedgehog to finally grace EU mobiles, with Super Monkey Ball Mini-Golf also announced alongside Virtua Tennis and SEGA Rally. Yuji Naka in Leipzig

Everyone’s favourite Ferrari fanatic, Yuji Naka, will be attending a European Games Convention, held in Leipzig, Germany. SEGA-Europe’s German website has revealed details of his special appearance during two days of the event.

August 17th will be a special developer’s-only day which Naka-san will attend, to present the three latest Sonic the Hedgehog titles in the saga (that’s Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Gems Collection and Sonic Rush in case you haven’t been catching up). The event would be perfect for European fans to learn more about the upcoming games (and perhaps on secret projects too) but we assume this pleasure will be reserved for the Tokyo Games Show commencing mid-September instead. Europe: Sonic City Goes Live

Sonic fans in America and Japan have been getting the dedicated Sonic micro-site treatment from SEGA as of late, and Europe has just seen the launch of their own official “Sonic City” source.

Unfortunately, the micro-site isn’t very respective of monitor resolutions – 1024×768 is required, but 1152×864 is apparently the size for optimum surfing. Design-wise, it doesn’t lend much to Sonic the Hedgehog at all, aside from the somewhat iconic corkscrew feature around the city heights. In fact, you wouldn’t even believe it was a SEGA or Sonic site if the corporate logos weren’t present (depending on your resolution of course). Continue reading Europe: Sonic City Goes Live

The website also has 5 tiny blue rabbits that can be rubbed, which will unveil a special treasure.

Project Rub was released in Europe on the Nintendo DS recently and was known as Feel the Magic XX/XY in America, and originally as Kimishine in Japan.

The Nintendo DS has 15 launch titles; Sonic Team develops one of which.
