Well, it’s already Thursday in some parts of the world.
Sonic Jump is already up in the New Zealand App store. Some new video and info was posted on TSSZ earlier today along with some new info on the game. It appears there will be some extra playable characters including Tails and Knuckles. Also included are boss battles, score challenges and in-App purchases. Official release info and some new screenshots after the “ahem” jump.

Richard Jacques is back with Sega again and remixing some of their classic game music with a modern twist. Now, it’s not just the vehicles that transform, it’s the music! In a new preview from Destructoid, Steve Lycett showed off some soundtrack samples from the upcoming game and it’s looking pretty dang sweet.
Richard Jacques had this to say.
You are not going to believe some of the music we’ve managed to get into the game and I am sure the fans will agree this is without doubt, the best soundtrack we’ve included in an All-Stars game to date!
Sega, PLEASE put this on iTunes! Don’t make me beg.

Here, we have 3 new Wreck-it-Ralph posters. One featuring the main cast, another featuring Bison and Q-Bert front and center with Eggman just off to the right and one that I will be bribing my local theater owner into giving me with Sonic front and center. Making Zangief look puny in comparison. Beautiful!
I dunno about you folks, but I gotta have that poster!

There’s more Sonic All-Stars new racing your way today as IGN reveals a hands-on preview with the Wii-U version. The Wii-U version will include the ability to play the game on the game pad only sans TV or can be used to include a hub to keep the main screen clear.
When you’re in a race, jockeying for position, the screen displays a range of pertinent information – the current order of racers, a mini-map of the course. It’s all unintrusive and useful, but I expect most people to keep their eyes firmly on the race. Similarly, when you unleash one of the game’s eccentric power-ups, you’ll be able to see its destiny on the GamePad’s screen. Launch a remote-controlled car loaded with a stick of dynamite and you can watch it travel towards its unfortunate target.
Also mentioned is one of the games arena modes that use the Wii-U game pad to it’s advantage.
Depending on the circumstances, a GamePad can prove to be an advantage or disadvantage, and All-Stars Racing Transformed smartly uses this discrepancy as the basis for its mini-games.
I only saw one during my time with the Wii U version, called ‘Super Monkey Ball Arena’, and whomever had the GamePad took control of AiAi, who was as usual encased in his perspex sphere. Meanwhile, opponents using Classic Controllers played as Sonic and Tails in racing cars. The aim of the mini-game was simple: before the time ran out, squash the tiny versions of Sonic and Tails, who were driving around attempting to collect as many bananas as possible.
The Wii-U version of the game is shaping up to be very unique from the other consoles. We should be hearing more as the game nears it’s launch in November. In the meantime, make sure to check the full preview on IGN.

As Gamescom approaches this week, Sega has revealed a brand new gameplay trailer for Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed. Highlights include a Starlight Carnival track from Sonic colors, a track based off After Burner, another one based off the TV studio level from Samba De Amigo and a floating island track from Skies of Arcadia. That’s a lot of tracks to reveal all at once. But wait! There’s more!

Once again, Team Fighters are hot on Eggman’s trail. Once again, they have to fight Mecha Sally in an effort to rescue her and once again, they fail but save the day for the town under attack. This is starting to get monotonous. However, that doesn’t mean this is a bad issue in any way. In fact, this may be one of the better issues out this year. Why? You’ll have to keep reading to find out.
Also, T-Pup kicks @#$!

While at Comic Con Alex and I got the chance to interview the recently promoted executive director of editorial Paul Kaminski, art director Jon “Dubs” Gray and artist Evan Stanley. We discuss all things Sonic and Megaman and even throw in the Mighty Crusaders for a little variety. It was pretty hard to get an interview schedule in as Archie booth was incredibly busy this year, so you’ll notice that the interview is in two parts. We have the second part of the interview in the comments page. I think the second part came out much better as it was more off the cuff and natural and my stomach isn’t as stuck out, making me look like I’m 9 months pregnant. Enjoy!

Here’s the Q&A session from the Sonic/Mega Man panel that took place just over a week ago at Comic Con International. Artists Jon Gray and Evan Stanley were there along with Editor Paul Kaminski and Archie president Mike Perrilto among others. Mike and Paul are still arguing on whether Rotor Sucks or not, but everyone shows their love for the freedom fighting clam, Bivalve. I’ll be showing photos from the panel in a later update and my interview with Archie Editor Paul Kaminski will also be up later this week. The audio kinda echos through the room, so I’d recommend some headphones so you can hear what they are saying. Enjoy!

Okay, Stop me if you’ve heard this before…
So Sonic and his friends go to the Shazamazon to help two tribes fight off the Dark-Egg Legion. However, these tribes known as the Wolf Pack and the Felidae (Lead by Grand Chief Lupe and Queen Hathor) have an uneasy truce with one another and are always at the brink of…oh you HAVE heard this story before! Like, two years ago, right? Well, get ready to hear it again as Sonic comics 237 and 238 give you that always puzzling question…”Was this trip REALLY necessary?”

Well, the Wreck-It-Ralph footage didn’t record for some reason (Oh wait! It did! Just in the camera’s internal memory.) and the Crush 40 videos I took are too close to the front so you can only hear base. However, I did manage to take a lot of great pics (including a very silly one of Johnny). This includes the Crush 40 concert and the cosplay contest. Sonic Boom was an absolute blast and ten times better than even last years event. Everyone has a great time. I saw one fan who was so happy, he was in tears! It was one of greatest nights of my life as well. Enjoy the pics!

Sega and Sanrio have teamed together to bring you some new Sega products. First thing out the door is a Hello Kitty Sonic which combines their two biggest franchises into one plush. The plush will be available at Sega Joyopolis later this month. Sega has stated that the plush will be available worldwide by summer 2013. Probably in those @#$% Sega UFO catchers. You know the kind. they got the plush just dangling over the edge and even a video tutorial on how to catch it but the dang thing never drops! You end up spending $30 with no avail! All I wanted was to get my niece a pirate Domo with an eyepatch! Why must this blasted machine tempt me so?!! IT’S NOT FAI-oh. “ahem” Sorry. Sooo..yea. Looking forward to what other Sega Sanrio products they come out with.

Feral Interactive today announced that Sonic the Hedgehog and over 25 other fan-favorite SEGA characters are coming to the Mac this summer! Developed by Sumo Digital Ltd. and published by SEGA for consoles and PC, Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing and SEGA Superstars Tennis will bring the world’s speediest blue hedgehog to the Mac for the very first time.
A star-studded line-up including Doctor Eggman, Tails, Shadow the Hedgehog, Alex Kidd and Super Monkey Ball’s Aiai will battle it out not only in single player and split-screen multiplayer modes, but also online using Apple’s Game Center technology, a feature of the next version of Mac OS X, Mountain Lion.
Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing sees Sonic and friends race cars, motorbikes and even a “bananamobile” across crazily inventive tracks inspired by the incredible worlds of the SEGA games. Players must find secret shortcuts and use hilarious power-ups to give them the edge, making Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing an exhilarating ride for family, friends and online challengers.
SEGA Superstars Tennis pits classic SEGA characters against each other across four smashing (geddit?) tournaments on totally outrageous tennis courts. Players can also put their racket skills to the test in twisted minigames inspired by classic SEGA titles such as House of the Dead, Space Harrier and Super Monkey Ball.

It’s been six weeks since I first got my hands-on with All-Stars Racing and several things have changed since then. Joe Musashi and Shadow were introduced as new racers available, Adder’s Lair from Golden Axe has made its appearance, new items are available to attack your enemies with, and a Nascar Racer became a new playable character. How did all this affect my new experience with the game? Read on.

Sonic 4: Episode 2 has got a tough, uphill road to climb. While critics loved the first Sonic HD game in 2-D, many fans were outraged by its poor physics, unoriginal levels with cheesy gimmicks and uninspired boss fights. Add to that, the far superior gameplay of Sonic Generations and many gamers may already be dismissing this next chapter while critics who praised the first game are already looking at this second chapter with a more discerning eye. Now, we know Sonic is not exactly you’d relate to on Mother’s Day. After all, the only official mother in the Sonic games is Cream’s mom, Vanilla. But in the land of Sonic cartoons and comics, anything goes and just about every character you can think of has a mom and dad. So, the questions remains, which Mobius mama is the top pick of all time? Read on to see who my five favorites are.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Sorry for not having reviews for the last few issues. My work schedule keeps changing and makes it a bit hard to have enough free time for a large article. That, and I’m fairly lazy at times XP. I will have a full review of the Eggman arc from Sonic Universe in two weeks. Anyway, onto the review.
Things are finally starting to turn around for Sonic. After losing both Sally to robotization and having Antoine in a coma due to Metal Sonic exploding on him, Sonic finally has managed to get back on his feet and create a new team. In the meantime, two other new teams are forming for different reasons. With 3 teams of Freedom Fighters instead of one, things are really getting interesting. But is it enough to turn the tide against Eggman?

Just revealed on Gamespots “On the Spot” was that owners of both Sonic 4 episodes (on the same system I believe) will get “lock-on” technology where you will be able to play as Metal Sonic! Plus, purchasing both episodes gives you four exclusive levels. Along with this news, the release date have been revealed for the US. May 15th for PSN, May 16th for LIVE, later May for PC, June for Android and July for Windows Mobile. Also, expect to see a new trailer with a new level revealed later today.

In what might be either a sad or happy day for Sonic fans, it seems that Sonic Team will no longer be using Big the Cat. In a recent interview with Takashi Iizuka, it was reported that Big was to be put on a list of older Sonic characters that are no longer in use. Said list includes Mighty, Nack, Bean, Bark and most recently Marine. Continue reading AFD 2012: Sonic Team to No Longer Use Big The Cat

This mystical statue has a familiar face to it. Yup, taken pretty much directly from the Marble Garden zone, it’s the “Strange Relief”. Why that name? Well, besides it’s red jewel flashing as you get near which triggers arrows to shoot at you from it’s mouth, it also doubles as a toilet. Just don’t ask me how.
A little birdie told me about the next piece of art. Read on on to see it.

A trio of Game Gear games arrive in the good ol’ USA on the Nintendo 3DS today with the top (and most expensive) one being Sonic Triple Trouble at $4.99 (American). Play as either Sonic or Tails (Tails?! Bah! Who’d wanna play as him in single player? Right guys?) and encounter Dr. Robotnik, Knack the Weasel and…..pink Knuckles as you hunt down the Chaos Emeralds and foil Robotnik’s latest scheme. The Game Gear titles will get a lot of cool new features including saving at any time, button configuration, “original or “special” performance (optional slowdown?) and optional original blur. Also, you can arrange your screen size by pixel perfect (with a Game Gear frame), widescreen or original 4:3. Also available are GG Shinobi ($3.99) and Dragon Crystal ($2.99). So now, you can have all the Game Gear fun without draining 6 AA’s every three hours!
These GG games will arrive in Europe later this month. Continue on to see video of the three games in action.

Tomorrow will see the release of the Segabits podcast, Sonic Talk: Episode 4. In it, me and Alex interview Ken Balough about all things Sonic 4:Episode 2. One thing that’s been discussed in other forums and kinda revealed lately is how the physics are shaping up and it’s all good. Here’s what Ken had to say on the new and improved Sonic 4-2 physics.
You’ll notice the changes right from the get-go. We took fan feedback and made sure he doesn’t uncurl. So now when he rolls up those hills, he’ll stay in ball-attack form. The other thing was to start having the game have more momentum style physics similar to the Genesis. In act 2 of Silvania Castle, it starts off at a big hill. So if you just put Sonic towards the edge and have him tuck and roll (not spindash) and let him roll naturally, you can put your controller down because not only will he roll down that hill, but he’ll actually pick up speed and roll off a ramp (for example) and have it similar in essence to the way it was on the Genesis.
Check out Sonic Talk 4:Episode 2 tomorrow on the Segabits website (or use the link I’ll provide later on this site) to find out more on the physics, how Sonic CD is now embedded into Sonic 4 and the Genesis trilogy, what kind of adaption will be in the Archie magazine, which versions have “transfarring” and much more!
Also, you’ll get to hear some nerds talk about Game Gear games and the Sonic Advance series so…win win!

Beleaf it or not, there’s some contraverstree over this piece of artwork. I’m stumped that someone would find this oakfensive, but they’ve really flipped their twig about it! Frankly, I think they’re barking up the wrong tree. They need to get to the root of the problem and tell Sega what kind of art they pine for. Maple they’ll listen. Don’t beat around the bush either or your efforts will be foilaged! Take a fern stance on the issue! No ifs, Ents or buts about it!

The Australian Clarification Board has rated Sonic Blast and Sonic Labyrinth for the 3DS Virtual console. While I could think of much better Sonic Game Gear games to put on the 3DS, you gotta admit that it’s an…interesting choice. Sonic Blast is a 2-D platformer with 3-D rendered graphics (ALA Sonic 3-D Blast) and very choppy animation while Sonic Labyrinth is considered by many fans to be one of the worst Sonic games of all time. When these games will be available or in what countries is still unknown, but it should be later this year. In the meantime, read on to check out some gameplay videos from both of these titles.

I would like to apologize (or make some of you happy) on the lack of bad puns in this weeks post. I mean, last week gave us ice cubes and a snowman. I coulda gone on for days just on that! But this weeks art is hard to write around as far as puns go. Here we have…A Ring Shooter. Yup. That’s what it is alright. Ummm… I guess Sonic won’t have to worry about ring around the tube? It’s totally tubular? “SIGH!” Sorry. That’s the best I got. Read on for…a floating platform.

These Sonic head danglers are kinda neat for $1 American each, but there’s something off about them. Something bulbous. Something I can’t quite put my finger up-ON! I mean on. Hmmmm I guess I’ll really have to put my nose to the grindstone to figure this out. Man, even Metal has a huge schnoz.

It was inevitable. After Sonic Underground, then Adventures hit Netflix, it was only a matter of time until Sonic SatAM hit the service. Now Netflix is streaming Sonic’s full DiC…produced cartoon series (now known as Cookie Jar). All 2 seasons of SatAM are available for viewing in SD format right now.

Given that we got a brand new gameplay trailer this week and a ton of other Sonic 4-2 news, this week’s concept art from the Sega blogs left me cold. Even it’s pile of potential puns could not thaw my frozen heart. I mean, last week we got a cube. This week, several. Only…frozen. This ice wall is perfect for Sonic to break with his face. Why does he do that? Anyway, maybe I should just chill out and have you read on to see another piece of art that’s snow joke! (Ha! I sleigh me!)

From Gamespot comes the exclusive trailer for Sonic 4: Episode 2 with full gameplay video! Here, you can plainly see the new graphics engine that seems to give the game more of a “Donkey Kong Country Returns” style to it. As far as the game play engine goes, it’s hard to say. Outside of the tag teaming Sonic and Tails are doing, it looks like it hasn’t changed too much. The homing attack has returned and they are using it on my polar pal Smokey! I can’t bear to watch! Hopefully, they have fixed some of the more major physics issues that plagued the first game but outside of uncurling being gone, it’s hard to tell from this video.
Sonic 4:Episode 2 will be available this spring for 360, Ps3, iOS and Android devices.

Some may find this new badnik un”bear”able. Some may find him to be totally loveable. My feelings on the matter are completely polar. Sega’s Snowy here may look menacing, but I bet good ol’ Bark is worse than his bite. (Okay, that’s stretching it.) If these puns leave you cold, I’m afraid the ones after the link are really square. (Y’know, sometimes these are so bad I wanna slap myself.)

In Sonic’s long history of cartoons, comics and games, he’s had quite a few ladies. Hell, in the comics he’s had enough women to make Captain Kirk envious. However, many of these relationships did not work out so well or were just a horrible HORRIBLE idea in the first place. Sometimes, love stinks. Read on to find out who made the list. Also, when you have to us Google image search to find images of Sonic’s old GF’s for an article, PLEASE USE SAFE SEARCH!! I learned the hard way.

The bad puns continue as Sega gives us our first look at a non-badnik piece of concept art. This flipping platform hides a spring underneath that Sonic should be able to take advantage of if timed right. If you thought yesterday was the only day for new Sonic 4-2 concept art, you were wrong! Today, Sega has released another pair of badniks to show off. The first one is “Scarabesque”. A scarab dung beetle badnik who’s much cuter than the rabble of badniks we’ve been getting of late. Maybe this is to make up for the fact that he’s rolling a soccerball of electronic poop. I’m betting said dung is also a bomb in disguise. Read on to find another badnik who’s less of a stinker.
