The anime series Sonic X is about to see a new lease of life on DVD, thanks to US based entertainment company Diskotek Media. The news was originally announced on Diskotek’s Facebook page, simply stating ‘Sonic X complete series! Release date TBD’
Unlike the original releases of Sonic X DVDs which all came in volumes of episodes, this single release looks to include all 78 episodes of the series, originally broadcast from 2003-2006.
As implied by Diskotek’s Facebook post, no date has been decided for release yet, but one of the company’s employees also spoke about the upcoming release over on Sonic Retro’s message boards, where further information was brought to light.
The user known as ‘Kushami’ has said that the license Diskotek currently has to produce the DVD is for the dubbed version only, although Diskotek is aware of the strong desire by fans for subtitled versions of the original Japanese episodes, and has emphasised that the idea of a second release with the subs could potentially be done, but is only likely if the response to this first DVD is strong enough.
Other details included that in keeping with the licensor’s requests, the DVD will use the dub’s intro to the show (no Sonic Drive this time people… sorry!), and that there isn’t likely to be much in this release in the way of extra features, but such extras may be considered for the mentioned possible re-release. A Blu-Ray release is also said to be unlikely, due to the fact that the original show has no high definition masters.
Will you be ready to support this new release when it eventually rolls around? Would you buy in to better the chances of getting a subtitled version of the show produced? Let us know!

In the same “better late than never” fashion as the film itself, the box office smash (pun fully intended) Wreck-It Ralph will be making its way onto DVD, Blu-Ray, and digital download in the UK on Monday 3rd June. This comes almost four months after the film’s theatrical release, and about three months after the DVD/Blu-Ray release in the US which took place at the beginning of March.

A new listing has appeared at a few online retailers such as Amazon that reveals Cookie Jar Entertainment will be releasing a DVD compilation on January 4th 2011 featuring episodes from Sonic’s original three cartoon series Sonic the Hedgehog (AKA SatAM), Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Underground. The compilation is titled “Sonic Mega Mix“, and according to retailer Future Shop it will contain one disc with a running time of 155 minutes. Future Shop also says the DVD is region locked at Region 1, so fans outside of the U.S. looking to import this will need a multi-region DVD player to run it.
No information is available regarding which episodes or how many will feature on the DVD, but at 155 minutes you can expect about 6 episodes total. As for price, Amazon is listing it at $9.99, Barnes & Noble at $9.01 and Future Shop at $5.99 Canadian.

Everybody’s favorite oddball weekday morning show starring a hedgehog with super speed will have its third season release on DVD in “early 2010.” TVShowsOnDVD.com is reporting that the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog – Volume 3 will be a 4-disc set, published by Shout! Factory.
In an effort to bring fans a series of memorable catalog titles under-represented at retail, Shout! Factory will be offering select releases of TV-DVD and film catalog titles as Shout! Factory Exclusives, available for purchase directly from the official online store site.
AoSTH – Volume 3 will release with other old television shows with smaller fanbases, like Ironside, Mr. Belvedere, Room 222, My Two Dads, The Bill Cosby Show and The Goldbergs. Nothing is finalized on any of these DVD sets. There are no exact contents, box art, or anything else specified at this time aside from the estimated date of release.
