More Proof Sonic’s New Game Is Titled “Sonic Generations”

The recent temporary box art leak not enough to convince you Sonic’s new PS3 and Xbox 360 game is called Sonic Generations? Well, the recently registered web domains http://www.sonicgenerations.com and http://www.sonic-generations.com now link back to SEGA’s website’s games section, which in the past has meant a game’s previously discovered website is about to go live soon. UK equivalents of the URL’s that also link to SEGA’s website have also appeared: http://www.sonicgenerations.co.uk and http://www.sonic-generations.co.uk.

Hopefully this means we’ll get some information on Sonic Generations soon. SEGA of America’s Kellie said via Twitter on April 8th that more information is coming “Over the next few weeks”.

RUMOR: Sonic Generations and New Mario and Sonic Box Art Leaked?

From this TSSZ article looks like what could be the first non-final box art for both Sonic Generations and an all-new Mario and Sonic title, Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. If found true, this would confirm the Sonic trailer’s title as Sonic Generations and also confirms earlier rumors of a new Mario and Sonic title.

SEGA Facebook Poll Asks: “Which Version of Sonic is Your Favourite?”

SEGA’s RubyEclipse said yesterday that more questions and information regarding the new PS3 and Xbox 360 Sonic title were on the way to the official Sonic Facebook page, and today the page updated with one of those things; a question. Whether this poll is just for fun or will hold a significance to the game or anything else in Sonic’s future is unclear, but whatever it’s for, Classic Sonic currently has a very large lead of about 4,500 votes over Modern Sonic.

To place your vote, head on over to the official Sonic Facebook page.

New Trailer Teases New Xbox 360 & PS3 Sonic Title

The day everyone’s been waiting for is here. SEGA’s just posted their much anticipated trailer on the official Sonic Facebook page and it’s one that will please classic and modern Sonic fans alike. The trailer is for a new game that will launch in 2011 on Xbox 360 and PS3, but what the game is called is currently unknown. No gameplay footage is shown in the new video, but we do see plenty of CG animation of Sonic in both classic and modern forms running around what looks like Green Hill Zone from Sonic’s first outing on SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis. Could the rumours about old zones returning be true? We’ll keep tabs on this exciting new game and bring you new details as soon as they’re released.

Summer of Sonic 2011’s Intended Venue Confirmed

The intentional venue for the Summer of Sonic 2011 convention has been revealed – and it’s right on your doorstep! The Camden Centre is situated right opposite Kings Cross St. Pancras Station in Central London, and is just a short walk from Euston station too, making it the most accessible SoS location to date!

According to the announcement on the Summer of Sonic website, the Camden Centre can house 900 raving Sonic fans (without any additional equipment clogging up the space), but any concerns of a cramped experience against all those tables will be relieved to hear that there’s a sizeable foyer and secondary hall that will also be used to hold stalls and other things.

“In terms of what it could offer us as a space, and after visiting the very friendly management there, the SoS team feels that Camden Centre is the perfect place to hold Sonic the Hedgehog’s 20th Anniversary,” reads the post by… well, me. More updates – including a closer peek at the venue – are to come at a more regular pace now that the intentional location has been decided. Stay tuned to TSS for the latest.

[UPDATE] Rumour: Sonic Anniversary Coming to Nintendo 3DS

UPDATE: Official Nintendo Magazine UK has contacted SEGA about the game, to which they replied “No comment”.
Link (Thanks to Doctor MK for the heads up!)

You may remember fellow Sonic fansite Sonic Paradise reported back in October that a SEGA representative informed them that a title tentatively called ‘Sonic Anniversary‘ is in the works for Wii, DS, PSP and PS3, with an Xbox 360 version to be confirmed. The title was said to be a compilation of levels from across Sonic’s library of past games in a mix of 2D and 3D and adapted to todays generation of consoles.

Sonic Paradise’s latest podcast has revealed that a Nintendo 3DS version of the game is also in the works, a detail they say was lost in the initial reports. If this information is true, then this could mean that the Sonic 3DS game in development could be a version of this game, rather than its own exclusive game for the format.

Take this rumour with a pinch of salt for now until we hear some official details regarding future games from SEGA.

Sonic Colors and Sonic 4 Win Nintendo Power Awards

It’s been a slow news week, so I thought I’d post this little tidbit.

The March 2011 issue of Nintendo Power has just been released and they have their 2010 awards in. Most of the article covers the editorial awards while one page is dedicated to the readers choice. Sonic Colors (Wii) won for best graphics by the editors, while Sonic 4 won for best WiiWare game by reader’s choice. (The editors awarded it to Cave Story.)

Check out the March issue of Nintendo Power for more awards and an extensive preview of the Nintendo 3DS.

Sonic #225 Variant “Death” Cover

IGN has once again gotten an exclusive as they now show the variant cover. With it, Sonic’s sad shock as a still, dead hand lays on the floor. It doesn’t look like Rotors. It doesn’t have a collar like Antione’s. No robotics like Bunnie’s (albeit, that’s only one arm). No gloves like Amy or Tails. Could it be Sally? You’ll have to wait until March to find out.

Smithsonian Art Museum to Feature Sonic in Games Exhibition?

The Smithsonian American Art Museum is setting up an exhibition focusing on video game artwork – and Sonic the Hedgehog could feature prominently in the upcoming showcase.

Called The Art of Video Games, the event takes a look at iconic games throughout the last 40 years and explores the industry “as an artistic medium, with a focus on striking visual effects, the creative use of new technologies, and the most influential artists and designers.” Better yet, there are 80 slots for games to be featured – and visitors to the museum’s website can vote for the games that they feel best represent ‘video games as art.’

Representing the Sonic the Hedgehog (and related) series in this voting stage are the following:

 • Sonic CD (Action Game – Sega Genesis)
 • Sonic Adventure (Action Game – Sega Dreamcast)
 • NiGHTS into Dreams… (Action Game – Sega Saturn)

Click here to visit the voting page – you’ll need to register an account with the website – and take your time in voting for the games you feel deserve the cut. Certainly, don’t vote for Sonic just because it’s Sonic, but… well, it’s Sonic isn’t it?

More Details of Jazwares 20th Anniversary Toy Range

[UPDATE: Check out friends in Germany @ Spindash.de and their photos – credit goes to those guys for these photos and many more!]

Earlier this week we saw footage and images taken from the Nuremburg Toy Fair of the new Jazwares line available later on this year. Well, our friends over at SEGA Memories have managed to obtain snaps of many of the figures and toys to be released to coincide with the 20th anniversary. Some of these have been seen before, but some photos include some others that haven’t been seen before such as the Classic Tails with Badnik figure (see picture – it’s that annoying thing that grabs you in the Chemcial Plant!).

The images also include some “Battle Game” figurines, as well as images for the cover of Archie comics Issue 226, within the classic Sonic & Amy Rose figure set.

Jazwares Reveal Sonic 20th Anniversary Figures & Plushes At London Toy Fair

Jazwares has revealed their plans to launch a series of special Sonic 20th Anniversary figures and plushes at a recent London Toy Fair. A range of prototypes and concepts were on show at Jazwares’ booth, including a figures series called “Sonic Through Time”, which as the name suggests are figures based on Sonic’s design at a various year in his life. Also on show was a Shadow figure & comic pack, classic Dr.Eggman with Egg Robo’s figure pack, modern Dr.Eggman with Egg Pawns figure pack and modern Tails with a modern sandworm Badnik figure pack. New plushes shown were a large Shadow and a large classic Sonic, both 20th Anniversary labelled.

Since this line up was shown at a London toy fair, there’s hope that Tomy (distributor of Jazwares figures in the UK) will release these in the UK. No other information is available at present, but we’ll keep an eye out and report back. For now, check the two photos out and share your opinion of these new figures in the comments.

Thanks to SonikkuForever at the SSMB for the heads up and to Barry the Nomad at the SSMB for finding the last three pics.

Sonic Colors Soundtrack…Available In North America & Europe!

Earlier this week we reported on the Sonic Colors Soundtrack VIVID SOUNDS X HYBRID COLORS getting a digital release in Japan with no sign of release in the west…well…be disappointed no more!

As of today, VIVID SOUNDS X HYBRID COLORS is available to download from iTunes in North America and Europe! Not only this, the price of the soundtrack has scaled with the market!

The Soundtrack is again released in 3 volumes, each disc costing £7.99/$9.99 to download. “A great price!”, you say, but are you only after specific tracks? Then don’t worry! You can buy individual tracks from the iTunes store for the bargain price of 0.99p / $0.99! Yes! That means you can have your fill of Cash Cash for the price of a hamburger!

So whether you fancy just reaching for the stars for a quid, or downloading the whole experience for £24/$30, iTunes will let you do so, at a much reduced price to importing the physical soundtrack.

To check out the tracks available follow this link.

So, will you be purchasing any of these tracks from iTunes? Let us know in the comments!

Sonic Colors Soundtrack Available On ITunes?

With older Sonic the Hedgehog soundtracks becoming more scarce and difficult to obtain, along with newer releases frequently only being available to Japanese markets, the cry from fans for Sonic music to be available for download has become greater in recent years.  This is set to change however, with the announcement that the Sonic Colors Official soundtrack album VIVID SOUNDS X HYBRID COLORS will be available from the 26th of this month for download from iTunes.

However don’t jump for joy just yet; the album will only be available to the Japanese market in which Wave Master Entertainment (long time Sonic OST publishers) operate, meaning Western markets will be no closer to getting Sonic soundtracks on general release (although there are ways in which to buy through the Japanese iTunes). Unfortunately the soundtrack does not come cheap; the album is sold in three volumes each costing ¥1500 ($19/£12), with individual tracks being unavailable for purchase. Some fans may find this deal not to be worthwhile, with the physical 3-CD soundtrack costing ¥300 less than downloading all three volumes. Those looking only to purchase the title “Reach for the Stars” by Cash Cash will also be disappointed.

VIVID SOUNDS X HYBRID COLORS is still available for import through CD Japan for ¥4200 ($48), although expect to pay appropriate shipping charges and import tax. Although it may appear that the west is no further forward into getting similar releases to this, it is certainly a step in the right direction.

Prope Reveals New Game, Rodea: The Sky Soldier

It’s been around five years since Yuji Naka parted ways with SEGA and formed Prope. Since then, his games have mostly been small projects for download services and handhelds, as well as the strange Wii party game Let’s Tap. Now it looks like we may finally be getting a game fans of his old work can sink their teeth into: Rodea: The Sky Soldier.  The game is meant to be a spiritual successor to NiGHTS, and looking at the trailer I see the inspiration. Take a look. If anything, the music is incredible.

Rodea is not the game’s Japanese name, by the way. It’s full Japanese name is actually Tenkuu no Kishi Rodea. Rodea: The Sky Soldier is actually the game’s western trademark, which seems to indicate we’ll be getting a localization. Cross your fingers!
