First4Figures Tease Modern Metal Sonic Statue

Despite reports that F4F were looking to cancel their Sonic line, it seems there might be one last gasp effort to bring life to it once more.

In a Facebook post discovered only just now, First4Figures recently asked members of their collectors club to vote on designs for a new Modern Metal Sonic Statue.

Based on the image, there are two design concepts being considered, however the poll also has options for ‘not interested in Metal Sonic’ which is currently the second most rated option!

Why did it take so long for people to notice? Might have something to do with the post going live on Christmas Day, when we’re all eating turkey and opening gifts.

Sonic Hacking Contest 2018 Announced

Building on the success of last year’s event, Sonic Hacking Contest 2018 has already been formally announced! This gives another year for budding Sonic game hackers to strut their stuff and impress everyone with their skills!

The contest will take place between Monday November 26th and Sunday December 2nd, with the main hacking contest and the Hack Expo along with other events and streams to be announced. The initial deadline for submitting playable builds will be October 28th. Those participating in the contest will then have until November 4th to refine their entries, while those just in the Hack Expo will have until November 11th to do so. This gives just over 9 months to get your game ready for submission!

To continue with the high standard of 2017, the quality control criteria are still in place, as are the regular rules. You can read this information, as well as the awards up for grabs and the current judging panel, with the full announcement on Sonic Retro while the website is still being constructed. Please note that these can be subject to change closer to the time of the contest, so be sure to keep up to date if you’re interested.

Write those dates down if you want to participate yourself, or if you want to try them out when the demos are made public. And good luck to everyone who does end up putting their hacking skills to the test!

Another Cover Revealed for IDW Sonic #1

Solicits are now almost within touching distance, but in the meantime there’s been another cover reveal!

This is another alternate cover for issue 1, but this time it’s by an artist completely new to the franchise. This lovely cover of Sonic freeing animals with Tails acting as the literal wingman was done by Nathalie Fourdraine.

Along with the cover, some minor details about the upcoming four issues in April were noted, some of which have not been divulged before now. Aside from what we know, the following was revealed.

  • Issue one will be illustrated by Sonic veteran Tracy Yardley, who was revealed with the last cover released.
  • The next three issues will each have a different artist, and once the book goes monthly there will be rotating art teams.
  • Finally, and perhaps most interestingly, each of the first four issues focuses on Sonic with one of his classic allies, issue one being focused on Tails.

There’s bound to be a big surge of news within the next couple of days, so make sure you keep an eye on the Sonic Stadium for that!

Sonic Mania’s Soundtrack Officially Released on Digital Platforms

As of today, Sonic Mania’s soundtrack is no longer a vinyl exclusive, as it has finally hit digital music platforms as Sonic Mania Selected Edition. This version of the soundtrack is more comprehensive than the vinyl, containing all forty-seven music tracks created for the game. The soundtrack can be downloaded for $15.99 on iTunes, $14.49 on Google Play, and $18.99 on Amazon. Individual tracks can be had for $1.29, $0.99 and $1.29 on each service respectively.

While the soundtrack is pretty comprehensive, there is a reason why it is called the “Selected Edition”. The album lacks the tracks that were originally composed for Sonic 1 and 2.
