Takashi Iizuka and Tyson Hesse to Star in SXSW 2018 Sonic Panel

If you were planning on going to South by Southwest this year, you’re in luck: SEGA is returning to the event with another Sonic panel. Gotta Go Fast: The Official Sonic the Hedgehog Panel, will feature several prominent behind the Sonic the Hedgehog brand, including Sonic Team Head Takashi Iizuka, Sonic Social Media Manager Aaron Webber, Sonic Western Product Development Director Austin Keys, and Sonic comic artist/Sonic Mania Animation Director Tyson Hesse.

The panel will be held at the Discovery Stage in Exhibit Hall 2 from 3:30 to 4:30 PM Central Time on March 16. According to the SXSW website the panel will look back at the Sonic franchise’s strong performance in 2017 and give everyone a world-exclusive first look at what’s to come for the spiny blue mascot.

This will mark the third year in a row SEGA has hosted a Sonic panel at SXSW. Last year, SEGA used the event to give us our first glimpse at Sonic Forces. You will need a gaming wristband to get into the event, which can be bought here. There is currently no word on an official livestream for those who can’t attend the event. Last year, SEGA was unable to host one.

The Sonic Stadium may link to retailers and earn a small commission on purchases made from users who click those links. These links will only appear in articles related to the product, in an unobtrusive manner, and do not influence our editorial decisions in any way.

  1. Won’t be able to go to this, but I hope everything runs smoothly at the event. Recent reception of Sonic Team as a whole has not been the best, understandably so. I doubt they’ll be able to put another game out this year but if there is anything planned for the series, I pray they just take their time. We’re coming upon 27 years of what has been an interesting game series thus far, it would be a shame for it to be drowned in negativity for another how many years.

Man I’m way too apologetic for my own good.

  2. I just want to come to see poor Iizuka-San pelted with the desperate pleas for another Adventure game, and whether his weather beaten studio can deliver on an actual promising title.

  3. I also can’t wait for all the Sonic fans to get their chance to rag on the head of Sonic Team…I would…

  4. Featuring Takashi Iizuka and Tyson Hesse? It´s curious, but what I actually starting to think (since Sonic Boom seems to don´t be renewed) is that a new animated series is coming with Hesse directing or as character designer – that would be glorious.

    1. I think it’s more likely Hesse is there to help promote the IDW comics, since he’s part of that team.
