More Sonic X-Treme Material Released by Lead Artist

In August, we reported the discovery of several models in the portfolio of Sonic X-Treme lead designer Ross Harris, including the previously unknown inclusion of Amy Rose.

Harris has now released some videos on his own channel showing off several of the assets that were seen in the portfolio in action, as well as other concept videos done in Sonic X-Treme’s development. Aside from showing off Sonic animations and Amy run cycles, there’s an early Tails model, several Badniks, logo animations and mock-ups showing off how platforms and pipes would work.

Most notably, Harris himself confirmed that a lot of this work is from the early stages of Sonic X-Treme as opposed to later on (which is when the development trouble really affected a lot of these ideas). It’s really interesting to see what the game might have looked like before the more famous period of the game’s history.

Sonic X-Treme Amy Rose Models Found

You may remember a report we made a couple of years back about a LinkedIn profile we found for Sonic Xtreme’s Lead Artist Ross Harris which stated he designed character models for the game, including Amy Rose. Well, The Sonic Stadium has now found a portfolio website for the artist which features the above models for Amy Rose as well as models for Sonic and some badniks. Sonic Colours: TSS Info Page Live

Today’s been a good day for Sonic Colours information. Basically, information from an advance preview code has the green light to be made public from this week onwards – and I was one of the lucky few to have played it for an extended period of time. For a detailed preview of my experience, you’ll have to check SPOnG (it’ll be worth it, trust me – it should be live Tuesday morning), but for all the little bits of details inbetween, there’s the new TSS Sonic Colours Info Page, which has just gone live.

Every now and then, I’ll be trickling new details into this page from my play experiences – story elements (no spoilers), enemies, moves, Wisp powers and level mechanics. The reason it’s a bit thin right now (although there’s still some interesting tidbits that you likely didn’t know before, including badnik information) is because the site has been going pretty slow today, so I apologise for that.

When you’re done snooping as usual, you can chat about new details on the SSMB right here. Enjoy!

TSS Competition: Know Your Enemies for Classic Goodies!

To kick-off the month of May, we at TSS have got a distinctly classic set of goodies to give away to one lucky winner, which includes two remote control characters (1 x Sonic, 1 x Tails), a cap, a beanie, sweatbands x 2  and a metal keyring! Not a  bad haul eh? To keep with the classic theme we’ve devised a rather devious task for you to perform in order to be in for a chance to snag yourself this lot.

Here’s what you have to do:
Below is a montage of all of the badniks who appear in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. We want you to name as many of these as possible!

An impossible task to name them all? Perhaps, but the entrant with the highest number of correctly named Badniks (and yes, if it comes down to it we will pick on spelling!) will snag themselves this awesome bundle. But that’s not all! The keen eyes amongst you may also spot something missing…perhaps there are more than the 20 badniks listed here? Bonus points will be awarded for identifying those possible missing badniks too! So what are you waiting for? It is time to impress with your encyclopedic knowledge of this classic game!

Please send all entries with your badniks listed and numbered, along with your name and address like this:

e.g.:
I. Robotnik
Mountain Fortress
Western Mobius
EGG 1000

1) Chicken launcher
2) Squid nose
3) etc…

SCORING:
1 POINT FOR EACH CORRECTLY NAMED BADNIK
1 ADDITIONAL POINT FOR EACH BONUS BADNIK
1 ULTRA BONUS POINT FOR ALL 20 PICTURED BADNIK NAMES PLUS ALL JAPANESE NAMES !

And oh yeah, Silver Sonic doesn’t count! Please send all of your entries to the usual competition email: tbird [at] sonicstadium.org. Please submit all entries by Tuesday, 18th of May 2010. The winner along with the correct answers will be announced shortly after. The competition is open worldwide, with the exception of residents of Dead Horse, Alaska.

Good luck, and May the 4th be with you!

Newtron Revealed at Sonic 4 Site

The official Sonic the Hedgehog 4 website has revealed Sonic 1 badnik Newtron in motion, we’ve seen him before in the leaked footage but now we have a bit of text with him and some concept art –

Newtron surprises Sonic again using optical camouflage to try and blast Sonic. He can also transform into a rocket and charge towards Sonic.

So unlike Motobug it appears he doesnt do anything new but its still cool to see him make an appearance again.

After Hours of Mystery, Sonic 4 Site Unveils the “Badnik” Section

Also known as “stuff you’ve already seen.”

SEGA of America, continuing their c-c-c-combo of disappointing cockteases, unveiled the “badniks” section of the site today after hours of people staring at a broken countdown clock.  The only thing within the new section currently is a 19-year old badnik, the motobug.  The entry includes a short description and its full animation.

What badniks will be coming up in the near future?  Judging from the badnik art contest, it’ll probably be ones… we’ve already seen.

Project Needlemouse Concept Art. Sonic Only Character In The Game

SEGA of America and SEGA Europe have updated their blogs with the final day of the Project Needlemouse Challenge. Some cool concept art of an enemy that looks very similar to the crab badnik in Sonic 2’s Metropolis Zone, RubyEclipse states that this art reveals the spirit and direction of the game. So we could be seeing a return to classic Sonic after all in this game.

Also revealed is that Sonic will be the only playable character and no new character will be making an appearance playable or otherwise. With that said it doesn’t seem to rule Tails and Knuckles out as non playable characters, we’ll have to see how things go in future info/media.

RubyEclipse also gives more confirmation the game is going back to Sonic’s 2D roots in the comments section of the blog entry –

Ilcane – We realize there are many fans out there of other characters – even some for Charmy Bee, as we found out on the first day.

Project Needlemouse is being created for the people who have long asked us for a game with only Sonic that harkens back to his 2D roots. We can’t please everyone, but we feel very strongly that there is a massive group of people out there who have been waiting for a moment like this to finally come. Thank you for your opinion and your feedback though; Sonic is something that many different people feel very strongly about, but know that we are listening!
