Runners’ Data Reveals New Characters and More

sonic_runners_logo_by_guirj37-d8gjjhg

New playable characters (and other resources) for Sonic Runners have been revealed within the game’s data, thanks to some our our more tech savvy members on our board, the SSMB.

Back when the game was initially announced, several characters were revealed for the game. Aside from the main trio we were also shown renders of Amy, Shadow, Rouge, Vector, Espio and Charmy. However, the list of playable characters evidently expands much further than that!

Within the game’s files, models for characters unseen in trailers were shown – including Blaze, Silver, Omega, Metal Sonic… and what could be the most important reveal, Big the Cat!

JnCws6E

Currently, the only available characters within the game are Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, with Amy also available – if of course, you manage to invite ten Facebook friends and get them to download the title. The rest of the cast seemingly has no unlock criteria yet, and will likely come in future updates.

This isn’t the end of what’s been found in the game’s files however. There’s also images of characters from Secret Rings, Black Knight, Lost World and Adventure (Froggy!). It seems that Runners isn’t holding back on celebrating the many different games the hedgehog starred in and the characters that appeared there.

JnCws6E1

And finally, more gems have shown themselves, showing alternative version of existing characters, though we’re not exactly sure how they came to be… it seems that Espio has got himself a metal coating, and somebody made Shadow and Omega pretty angry.

JnCws6E2

A very creepy Metal Eggman has also been found.

This story is continuing to develop as more resources are unearthed, so keep an eye on our Twitter for updates! Credit to finding these goes to Woun and Mefiresu over on the SSMB forums.

Initial Impressions: Sonic Runners (iOS/Android)

Freemium. A word almost associated with fear to many nowadays. You hear the horror stories everywhere – a kid downloads a little free app, next thing you know their parent’s bank accounts are emptied and they have 500 coins of in-game currency to spend. It’s becoming so bad that Apple themselves need to offer consumers the ability to block these purchases from happening, and even market against them. It’s an undeniably profitable market, one which Sonic has dabbled in before. Continue reading Initial Impressions: Sonic Runners (iOS/Android)

See Some New Sonic Runners Screenshots

In case you missed it, Sonic Runners launched a little while ago in both Japan and Canada. Thanks to members of our own SSMB, many of us outside these regions have been able to get our hands on the game… including TSS Staff! As such, here’s a gallery of screenshots directly from the game itself, running on an iOS device.

If you’re wondering where Sonic Runners’ release is for the US and Europe regions, SEGA have stated that the game will be soft launched to work out bugs and see the game’s performance. Following this, a decision will be made if the game will be launched in these regions.

Sonic Runners is a new mobile game developed by the Sonic Team in Japan. We are soft-launching it in select countries to see how the game does and to work out any bugs.  No decision has been made yet whether it will be released in the US or Europe. It will depend on our observations during the soft-launch phase which could take several months.

Though it may take a while to reach us officially, you can view plenty of gameplay and media online while you wait, including our gallery you can catch below which we’ll keep updating. And don’t worry about the game’s quality itself – first impressions have been pretty positive from us here, and other users of the game so far.

UPDATE: Sonic Boom Shoes, Trading Cards, Shadow, Metal Sonic & More Spotted at Toy Fair 2015

UPDATE: More toys confirmed at the end of the article…

ORIGINAL STORY: It took a while, but we finally have some images of Tomy’s booth from the New York Toy Fair 2015.

sonicboomtomybooth

The first image was posted on Tomy’s own Facebook page and is a larger shot of the big headed plushes which we brought you news about last week. Included in the shot is an actual physical prototype of the Sonic Shoes which appeared at the Nuremberg Toy Fair in cardboard form.

There also appears to be a new much larger knuckles figure and what looks like clip on Sonic plushes and most surprisingly, what appears to be trading cards as well as a new box set which seems to include Eggman and Knuckles.

However, the second image is what you might find more interesting, we’re not sure on the source of this one, it was posted in our comments by “SpiritOfTheBlue”, so thank you for the heads up.

Sonic-Boomtomybooth

In the background you can make out more of the clip plushes, including a Knuckles themed one. However what’s more interesting is that there are what appear to be new renders of Metal Sonic & Shadow on a few display pieces, could this indicate that Shadow and Metal Sonic are to appear in the TV show at last? Or at least that they will have some merchandise made in the future? Note how Lyric has been confirmed not to appear in the show, yet Tomy have no Lyric merchandise at all, so far all their merchandise has been TV show themed, seems like a strong hint Shadow and Metal will be in there in some form.

We’ll keep you updated with more news as we get it.

Edit:

Well that didn’t take long, no sooner had I posted this but I got made aware of two new toys. One of which was staring us all in the face, if we enhance one of those images… check this out.

greeneggman

We can jut make out the figures of what appears to be Amy and Eggman, however what’s strange is… Eggman appears to be green? Odds are it’s from an upcoming episode of Boom. Until more details come out, we are all calling this figure ‘Hulk Eggman’ or ‘Gamma Eggman,’ agreed?

The second image comes from twitter user dadarocks an shows knuckles… with rocket powered shoes!

knucklesrocket-shoes

Aside from getting his game gear Sonic 2 on, odds are this is from another future episode of the show.

Finally, there are three interesting figures in the back of the photo which don’t appear to match the current Boom TV show cast, but do look a lot like some certain other characters we all know.

metalshadow

The one on the right looks a lot like Shadow, could the other two be Metal Sonic?

Edit 2:

A new video has surface giving a look inside TOMY’s Sonic Boom booth, where we can get a much closer look at some of the more ambiguous figures mentioned above along with some new ones.

Some Screengrabs:

If any more news comes to light, we’ll let you know.

Sonic Boom Season 2 Confirmed?

sonicboom

Cartoon Network has announced that Sonic Boom will be returning to the airways for their 2015-2016 programming schedule. In a press release which details programming intentions for 2015-2016, under the section ‘Returning Series’ Sonic Boom is one of the shows listed.

Despite the poor reception of the game, Sonic Boom the TV show has been doing very well with audience numbers still high for it’s time slot and market appeal, if the information here is correct and the show has indeed been renewed, it’s potentially huge news for Boom as a brand.

Unfortunately the press release isn’t completely clear as to if it means that it’s new content, or if they intend to reshow the first season into 2016.

We’ll keep you upto date with more news as we get it.

The Zone Runners, a collaboration between OCRemix Alumni DiGi Valentine, Halc and Sir J, have released their second record. It features a collaboration with J-ME.exe, another community artist.

This 9 song album continues the story of the titular runners and has remixes of many classic Sonic songs including Emerald Hill, Casino Night and Oil Ocean. I have seen a number of comments, both on and off TSS as well as articles and forum posts both on and off TSS lately regarding the health of a certain company and a certain videogame icon. This has since increased following news regarding Sonic Booms sales figures. There seems to be an interesting if not unexpected reaction going on, it seems that if you are a member of a website or a commentator on a news site, or even a hired writer, everybody seems to have or be giving ‘their say’ on what’s going on and why it’s happening.

Big Headed Sonic Boom Plushies Spotted at New York Toy Fair

sonicboomplush

Despite New York Toy Fair being one of the largest toy fairs in the yearly calendar, Sonic related news has been very dry. Virtually no booths have any Sonic related merchandise on them.

However, Sonic Boom’s master toy partner TOMY are there, and it looks like they have a few new surprises for us. The above photo was taken by twitter user ‘dadarocks,’ the picture shows what appears to be big headed plushies of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and most surprising of all Eggman.

No other details such as release date or price where given at this time.

We’re still on the lookout for more toy fair related news, we’ll keep you upto date if any comes out way.

Nuremberg Toy Fair Shows us New Sonic Toys

Following on from the London Toy Fair, Nuremberg held it’s annual toy fair too, as with London, there was a decent Sonic presence there too.

Spindash.de managed to attend the event and were able to spot the following products.

nurembergtoyfar

First up is the ABYstyle booth which had a bunch of the Paladone Sonic toys along with these new items. A T-Shirt which is likely going to be the subject of a number of jokes in the comments for some people and a classic Sonic & Tails mug.

The Tomy booth was very similar to the booth which was photographed at London, only we now have some better images of the new action figures which appear to be variants of the original toyline.

nurembergtoyfair3

First up is Tails covered in oil, pictured next to the original Boom Tails.

nurembergtoyfair4

Next is what appears to be Battle Damaged Knuckles, looks like this might be from an upcoming episode of Sonic Boom.

Edit: I have no idea if that’s the official name, just that typically action figures usually end up being called ‘Battle Damaged’ when they look like they’ve been in the wars.

nurembergtoyfair2

Here we can see a new Sticks figure which was also at London Toy Fair, we can now clearly see that she’s covered in the green slime from the episode in which she gets the robot dog as a pet.

nurembergtoyfair5

Sonic with light up feet, I have no idea why it happened, it just did.

nurembergtoyfair7

Next up is the light up mask from Tomy, we even get a look at the reverse side.

nurembergtoyfair8

Other products noted were the Sonic Saves the Day pack which we spotted at the London Toy Fair and a few other figures which appeared at London.

In addition to the above news, the following bits of information was also confirmed.

  • The Sonic Boom Toy Line will launch in Germany the moment the TV-Show begins.
  • Jazwares also confirmed that they are no loner making Sonic toys.

Finally, this document was also revealed which seems to show in-store packaging designs as well as some initial launch toys for Europe.

Five Nights At Sonic’s is a thing

One of the biggest games of 2014, and the most creepy fan art subjects in the word come to reality. Oh dear.

And now, a message from Tanner trying to defend himself.

“Hi there. Tanner here. Video maker, guy who screams like a little girl. You know, I never knew how truly scary atmosphere can be until I played this. See, watching it now? Heck, editing it? Hilarious.

But sitting there in the dark, earbuds in, music cranked… it’s really unsettling. Yes, the graphics are laughable, but it’s not the graphics that are scaring me. It’s everything else from FNaF. Thank you.

First 4 Figures “The Tornado” Diorama opens for Pre-Orders

horizontal_01

The latest in First 4 Figures’ Sonic Diorama Collection looks to be flying high, but at has just landed for pre-orders!

F4F’s “The Tornado” is a monster at almost 18 inches tall, and it captures the scene that played out at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, where Sonic’s rocket equipped Bi-Plane powers through the clouds in chase of Dr. Eggman. The piece itself looks fantastic, with Sonic confidently riding the wings whilst Tails pilots from the Tornado’s cockpit.

A neat little addition to the piece is the inclusion of a pivoted stand to attach the plane to the cloudy base, which allows the plane to be angled like this:

Or maybe even like this…

(TornadoDimpsEdition)

First 4 Figures has also gone back to ‘Regular and Exclusive’ variants, meaning that two versions of the piece are up for grabs. The Exclusive edition (limited to 450 pieces) will set your bank account back $329.99. As you can probably see, like many other of First 4 Figures’ exclusive pieces, LEDs have been incorporated into this version of the statue.

The Regular version (1000 pieces) is $30 cheaper at $299.99, but has no LEDs incorporated into the design.

First 4 Figures says that the statue is due to ship in Q4 of this year, so there’s still time yet to get the rings together to buy this beast. There is also the option to utilise the company’s ‘flexipay’ method, to spread the cost a little more finely.

You can find more images of Both regular and exclusive pieces (and place pre-orders) at the following links:

The Top 5 Rejected Sonic Story Book Concepts

The storybook series was a short lived run of games on the Nintendo Wii, that threw Sonic into (seemingly random) classic stories. That series only lasted two games but that doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten about them.

While SEGA work out what they are doing with Sonic, maybe now is a good time to bring old blue back to the world of literature? So let’s go through our top 5 story book ideas!

Would you like to see the series return?  And if so, what classic tale are you dying to see Sonic and co jump into next?

UPDATE: Tomy Making Sonic Boom Collectable Figures?

UPDATE: We’ve been emailed the following image which appears to show the figures pictured here.

sonicboomtomybuild

Not really any new details other than those speculated in the article are confirmed.

If anyone knows of the origin of this, such as if this was found on a website or in some kind of trade magazine, please get in touch.

ORIGINAL STORY: A few weeks ago we brought you news regarding Tomy’s line of Sonic Boom toys which were on display at the London Toy Fair.

tomyboomcollectable

However a new photo has emerged which shows an unannounced toy line from Tomy. It seems that they intend to release small collectable figures based on Sonic Boom. Tomy have in the past released small blind Gacha toys based on Sonic, this photo suggests that they also plan to do the same with Sonic Boom.

The photo originates from a company called Heckford who are responsible for the construction of Tomy’s booth at the London Toy Fair. No further details as to price or release dates are available at this time.

However with New York Toy Fair being next week, we might get some more Sonic toy news in the next two weeks or so.

Release Date, Gameplay Details for Runners Revealed via Famitsu

Untitled-5In an interview with Sonic Team big boss Takashi Iizuka, Famitsu have revealed more details about the upcoming mobile only title and its possible release date.

You can catch the interview here, however unless you’re fluent in Japanese you won’t be able to get much out of it outside of a Google Translate. Though the current translation is very rough, there are some details which can be made out about the game.

  • Stages are designed to be one or two minutes long.
  • The game is a 2D action side-scroller.
  • Controls are designed to be operable with one hand.
  • It seems you will move forward automatically, and will tap the screen to jump.
  • Dr. Eggman will appear in the game as a boss.
  • There is talks of colour powers, and having a companion in the game. Wisps to return?
  • There will be new music for the game.
  • Familiar elements like rings and loop-de-loops return.

When Famitsu conducted this interview, they also managed to get their hands on the game. Though they say this was back on just January 20th and can’t actually reveal any gameplay footage, they say the game “was quite finished”. Even more surprising, Famitsu also state the game will release this month in Japan.

We will update this article when more details and/or better translations are provided.
