I just bumped into this and had to share it. Jason Griffith, who most know voiced Sonic in the Sonic X anime in 2003 until Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing in 2010, actually did indeed still voice Sonic for at least one last time in a half hour Fall 2010 Preview of Toonzai on CW4Kids. You can see the full video below. Continue reading Jason Griffith gave one last performance as Sonic in a Toonzai Fall 2010 Preview
[UPDATE] Sonic Generations Getting Multiple Dubs In Europe
UPDATE: Sonic Paradise has heard confirmation of the Spanish dub from SEGA Spain and Gamereactor has heard confirmation of the German dub from Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka. [Thanks to MarcelloF at the SSMB for the Gamereactor news.]
Original story:
According to a report over at Gamekyo, SEGA Japan has confirmed that new Xbox 360 and PS3 game Sonic Generations will be dubbed for each European country. The website also says that SEGA France has informed them that the game will be dubbed into French with the voices of their respective country’s Sonic X voice actors. If this report is true, then this will be the first time a Sonic game has been dubbed outside of the English and Japanese languages and shows SEGA is really pulling out all of the stops for fans to mark Sonic’s big 20th Anniversary celebration.
SEGA’s not confirmed this information through any of their official websites or social media outlets, but if we hear anything we’ll update you.

Sonic Colours Out In AU, Review Round-Up, More DS Characters

Sonic Colours for Wii and DS was made available to purchase in Australia today, the first official release for the game, with Europe receiving it tomorrow and the U.S. on the 16th. With the first official release has come many story mode spoiling details and media in the Sonic community for both versions, which we won’t relay here, but some interesting news you may want to hear is that more characters make non-playable appearances in the DS version than first thought. Joining already confirmed Amy & Knuckles are; Shadow, Blaze, Silver, Rouge, Cream, Vector, Espio, Charmy, Big and Chao.
You can hear some voice clips of the new voice actors portraying the characters in the video at the top of the page, courtesy of YouTube user MidniteWv4. The clips are played in the following order of characters: Sonic, Tails, Yacker, Eggman, Cubot, Orbot, Knuckles, Shadow, Blaze, Amy, Silver, Cream, Big, Espio, Charmy, Vector, Chao, Rouge, Omega and Wisp.
In other news, more reviews have been published across the net for both versions of the game, some scoring the game high and some scoring it low. British newspaper Guardian, along with Gamekult have given the Wii version its lowest scores of 3/5 and 6/10 respectively. Guardian cite dull presentation, lack of polish and an untidy interface as their reasons for an average score.
Eurogamer put their review of the Wii version out today and it was a positive one, with an 8/10 score awarded. The game received positive marks for its controls, simple storyline and replayability. Videogamer are equally positive in their review, where the Wii version got another 8/10. Videogamer’s Jamin Smith says “The controls are tight and simple, and even the camera is on its best behaviour throughout.”, the latter being something most modern console Sonic games are often panned for.
As for the DS version, Game Informer gave the portable outing an 8.5/10 for its fluid high-speed, the Wisps adding interesting gameplay and the addictive special stages. Elsewhere, the DS version was given a 7.9/10 by GameTrailers, a higher score than the 6.4 they gave the Wii version. GT’s reviewer appears to have really enjoyed the multiplayer modes of the DS version and the Wisp abilities that encourage exploring and replayability, but they say the game can get frustrating, because of the gap between the two screens resulting in you losing sight of Sonic from time to time.
You can check out more Sonic Colours Wii and DS reviews at Metacritic.
What do you think of the critics impressions of Sonic Colours? Have you picked up or will you be purchasing the game? Let us know in the comments.
Thanks to Woun at the SSMB for first revealing details about the cast of characters in the DS version!

Roger Craig Smith: SEGA Wanted Sonic To Sound Older
New Sonic voice actor Roger Craig Smith attended London’s MCM Expo today to help promote Ubisoft’s new game Assassins Creed Brotherhood, in which he plays the role of Ezio Auditore De Firenze, but that didn’t stop him from gladly speaking to Sonic fans at the event too. SSMB Members Doctor Sonic and Jaymeister got to meet Smith briefly and both had nice things to say about the voice actor.
Jaymeister feels he has a passion for his role as Sonic:
It was also interesting when I talked to him at MCM. He actually noted how there wasn’t the best reaction to the original Alton Towers clips, so I guess that may have also been an influence.
Really nice guy though, I can tell just by our 2 minute conversation, he really cares about his role and is very willing to listen to feedback in order to give what the fans want. He just seemed totally natural when talking to the fans, be they of Assassins Creed or Sonic. I hope to meet him again one day.
Doctor Sonic found out some interesting information from Smith behind the voice direction for Sonic:
I met Roger today at the MCM expo in London. Hes a really nice guy and was very happy to talk about voicing Sonic.
Without me even mentioning the deepness of his Sonic voice he said he had been told by Sega that they wanted Sonic to sound older. From what he said it sounds like Sega consider this to be an important factor in the current relaunch of Sonic.
So there you go, the deeper voice is what Sega wants, so it looks like it will be staying,
If you recall the clear and unedited Alton Towers voice clips, Smith did portray a lighter voice for Sonic back then when compared with the voice we revealed as part of a joint-exclusive with Sonic Retro and Sonic Wrecks yesterday.
Have a listen to both voice clips below for comparison and share your thoughts on the voice direction in the comments.

Roger Craig Smith will be back at the MCM Expo tomorrow if you missed out today and would like to meet him. More information about the Expo can be found at the events official website.
Thanks to Doctor Sonic and Jaymeister at the SSMB for the information.

High Quality Clips of Roger’s Sonic Voice Now Available
Many of you remember that Sonic the Hedgehog got a new voice actor in Roger Craig Smith back in July. Roger revealed later that the Sonic voice actor for Alton Towers Resort was him. A lot of people out there weren’t too keen on the new voice, claiming that it’s too deep and too slow, but this was predicted to be the fault of editing work on the clips for the resort. Today, we can prove that the clips were indeed edited with the original high quality voice clips released by ArchangelUK on his Radio Redux shows, which you’ll notice are higher in pitch and a little faster than than those played at Alton Towers.
Folks over at the SSMB, Sonic Retro and SEGA Forums have had a good listen to the clips. So far, feedback is pretty good with most noting a significant improvement compared to past recordings. What do you guys think of the clips? Speak out in the comments.
Thanks to ArchangelUK for playing these and to Hero of Legend at the SSMB for getting a hold of them.

Alton Towers’ Sonic Voice Actor IS Roger Craig Smith
Since landing his new role as Sonic the Hedgehog’s voice actor, there has been a lot of speculation about how Roger Craig Smith will portray the character. Some people have been wondering if the unknown Sonic voice actor at Alton Towers Resort in the UK is Roger and today he has confirmed that it is indeed his voice.
SSMB member XD375 (who you may remember tipped us off about Jason Griffith not playing Sonic in Sonic Colours before a change in voice actors was officially announced) sent the below message to Roger via Facebook together with an Alton Towers Sonic voice clip –
I sent you a message before but I didn’t include the actual clip:
Is this your voice?
Thank you,
Shane
Roger simply replied –
Yes!
So, there you have it folks. Roger Craig Smith is Sonic’s Alton Towers voice actor. Some fans have felt the voice acting for Alton Towers is a bit over the top to fit the happy and excitable theme park setting. If that’s the case, we have to wonder if Roger will portray Sonic differently in the games.
Those who haven’t heard the Sonic voice clips at Alton Towers can check them out in the below YouTube video (at 01:33) from SSMB member Gnasher:
Another voice clip can be heard in a Sonic Spinball ride promotion at the end of this Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing TV ad.
(Thanks to Gnasher for the link and thanks to Hero of Legend for the YouTube conversion)
Do you think Roger’s Alton Towers Sonic voice should be in the games or would you like him to change the voice for them? Let us know in the comments!
Thanks to XD375 at the SSMB for the heads up!

Interview: Mike Pollock, Voice of Dr. Eggman
Last week, I talked to Mike Pollock, the current voice of Dr. Eggman and we had a grand ol’ time. If you’ve got 21 minutes to spare, you can listen in as we discuss Mike’s work on Sonic Unleashed and other Sonic titles. In addition, Mike talks about how he got into voice acting and he reminisces on his early days in New York radio and his work on his only film, Little Tug’s Big Adventure. He also does some voices for us!
Mike is currently signed to do voice work on an upcoming, to be announced Wii title. He recently was the announcer for AC/DC’s Black Ice album and has acquired credits for his work on commercials, Ultimate Muscle, and Kirby! Right Back At Ya!. For more information on Mike Pollock, visit his website.
Embedding and audio playback here at Sonic Stadium is wacky, so Jay (Disco Ponies) has hosted it at the Sonic Show website.
LISTEN TO THE INTERVIEW HERE!
Do you have a question for Mike that was not asked during this interview? Who do you think that the Sonic Stadium should interview next? Post a comment then, dummy. 😀

Sonic Voiceover Cast Replaced
Ryan Drummond, voice actor for Sonic the Hedgehog in the SONICTEAM games for the last five years, has revealed to the Sonic community about his replacement by Jason Griffith from the ‘SONIC X’ cast.
In an email he has sent to fans ahead of his monthly newsletter on RyanDrummond.com, Drummond has explained how SEGA made a decision to replace the entire Game Voiceover Cast of the Sonic games with the Voiceover Cast from the US Dub ‘SONIC X’ cartoon, without letting him know about it. In a shock, if perhaps inevitable direction by the ‘House of Sonic’, the company felt that the move would maintain a level of continuity between the games and other products, such as the cartoon series. Long John Baldry Dies
AoStH voice actor and blues legend Long John Baldry has died in hospital on July 21st after suffering from a long-term chest infection. He was 64 years old.

Long John Baldry Update
Following our report yesterday from various sources, Long John Baldry is recovering well from his treatment in Canada for respiratory problems.
SONIC NEWS learned from various sources yesterday that the blues legend, who was the voice actor for Dr. Robotnik in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, was in a “critical condition”. Some reports had even stated he had died.
Despite the report from SONIC NEWS perhaps being the closest on Baldry’s “stable” condition, the singer was reportedly “peeved” at various British media sources for laying outrageous claims on his health.

Long John Baldry in Critical Condition
Blues singer and Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog voice actor, Long John Baldry, has been admitted to hospital with a viral infection, that has reportedly damaged his lungs.
Baldry has recently been hospitalised in London with lung problems. In March he returned to his home in Vancouver, but ended up requiring further treatment. According to spokespeople at Vancouver General Hospital, he is currently in intensive care in a stable condition.
Sonic fans will remember the star as the voice of Doctor Robotnik in US TV Show, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, where he provided evidently the best rendition of the belligerent dictator. Outside the fandom, he has helped bring the likes of Rod Stewart and Elton John to stardom in the music industry.
This disconcerting news follows the sad passing of fellow ‘Eggman’ voice actor, Deem Bristow. Sonic News gives its deepest regards to John and family, and hopes his condition improves soon.
