Just a quick Public Service Announcement on this – following our initial news on Tokyopop producing a US release of the Sonic Adventure 2 soundtrack, it appears that the CD is already available to buy (it was originally reported to come out in February). The Sonic Adventure 2 Official Soundtrack features 26 tracks on one CD, handpicked by lead musician Jun Senoue and including exclusive US-release remixes. You can pick it up for $14.98 via Tokyopop’s website here.

The solicitations for both Sonic #109 and Sonic #110 have been published by Archie Comics, and within them reveals a little surprise – hot on the heels of Dawn Best comes a second fan artist to formally join the fold. Fresh from SEGA’s official website, we now know the release date for Sonic Adventure 2 Battle on the Gamecube for the US. According to the site, the game will hit store shelves in January 2002, which is a month after its release in Japan. Sonic Team head Yuji Naka revealed at SEGA’s Consumer Conference that the Gamecube release of Phantasy Star Online will be accompanied by a third-party controller by ASCII that features a small keyboard. On the Xbox, PSO will be unique in that it will support the broadband features of Microsoft’s console, as opposed to Dreamcast and Gamecube’s modem connectivity.

Good news for potential Xbox owners – Sonic Team has revealed at this year’s Tokyo Game Show that a version of Phantasy Star Online version 2 will be coming to Microsoft’s big black box. As Microsoft is intending to move into the online gaming space, it makes sense for SEGA to think about the Xbox as a viable platform for PSO. No more details were revealed, so we’ll have to wait and see what form it takes.

Rumours are flying around that a Japanese release date has been set for Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for Nintendo Gamecube. These unconfirmed reports speak of the game hitting store shelves on December 20th. SEGA hasn’t yet confirmed or denied the rumour, and there’s no word on any US or European date. We’ll have to wait and see how this pans out…

Sad news for UK Sonic fans. Fleetway’s Sonic the Comic will soon be gone for good, as the publisher is winding down its series of reprints. The comic stopped producing original stories from Issue #185, and Issue #223 will be the final ever issue, according to the company, and will likely be released to shops in December. No word as to whether the final issue will be a reprint or contain a unique Sonic story, but given that there are only six or seven more issues left to go, it could be a reprint of ‘The Evil Empire’.

Sonic Team has released a new piece of downloadable content for Sonic Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast. Called ‘Eggrobo Toujou’, the VMU file contains a skin for Sonic in the Kart Racing mini-game that changes him into a classic Egg Robo from Sonic & Knuckles. The download also comes with a special ‘E’ shaped track, which when played features the ‘E.G.G.M.A.N.’ theme in the background.
