Today, SEGA have announced a remastered version of the notorious 2006 game, Sonic the Hedgehog, slated to hold a slew of new features to improve the gameplay experience and story. The title is coming to Playstation 4 and Xbox One consoles, with no specific release date given as of yet – but the 25th Anniversary is highlighted by Takashi Iizuka, head of Sonic Team. In what might be either a sad or happy day for Sonic fans, it seems that Sonic Team will no longer be using Big the Cat. In a recent interview with Takashi Iizuka, it was reported that Big was to be put on a list of older Sonic characters that are no longer in use. In 1999, to promote Sonic Adventure, an advertising campaign was launched which showed several Sonic Adventure plush toys being thrown out of a plane and dropped into Amazonian jungle rivers to be carried away. However, due to the difficulty of filming from a plane and near rushing water was than many shots didn’t come out right, so many boxes of these plushes had to be used during the filming. The older Sonic fans among you may remember the rather daft single “Wonderman” by British Pop band Right Said Fred, released as promotion for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 way back in 1994.
