April Fool!

Hey guys, hope you enjoyed our little April Fools gag there. You know us – we’re always game for a laugh on April 1st, and this year was no exception. Instead of tricking you all with some round-the-gardens thing again, we decided to let one of the best characters in the Sonic universe take centre stage.

BIGNEWS is the premier site dedicated to Big the Cat news. Be sure to give all of those articles a read, as it provides some fascinating insight into the world of the lazy cat we’ve all come to love – or hate.

Don’t worry about losing BIGNEWS either – we’re keeping it in archive well after April Fools’ day is over, so you can enjoy all the hard work Big put into this. It’s probably the most effort he’s put into something, so he hopes you’ll appreciate it to some degree. Or maybe he doesn’t hope that at all – he’s likely just snoozing in the Mystic Ruins again. Whatever.

Have a good day today – and don’t fall foul to any nasty tricks!

EDIT: April Fools Day is over, but you can still access Big the Cat’s very own website by hitting ‘BIGNEWS’ on the sidebar underneath ‘OTHER’, or by clicking here.

Bentley Jones EP Competition Winners!

Many of you readers submitted entries to the Bentley Jones EP competition set a few weeks back, with the correct answer being A) Alpha Dog (duh!). Unfortunately, like the Immortals from Highlander “there can be only one”…one winner that is!

So, the recipient of the Signed copy of Bentley Jones’ signed “So Much More” EP is…

Can You Beat this Bentley Jones Video Competition Entry?

I’ve been keeping my finger on the pulse and looking out for entries for the Bentley Jones Video Competition for So Much More…and to be honest, I wasn’t feeling it. There’s a couple of good entries out there, but I’ve seen the inside of far too many people’s bedrooms for my liking.

So after a long day of work I came home to find this, and my faith has been restored in humanity. This is amazing. THIS IS SO MUCH MORE. If this doesn’t place in the contest, I will personally send Sonictoast a prize because the amount of time that must have been spent on this is mind-boggling. You guys are my heroes today! Especially Mr. Foley; if they make a Sonic live action film I think we’ve found our Eggman…

Shortest competition ever: The Result!

Yeah, I’m not good at the whole mystery game, but there you go. Anyway, earlier (or yesterday in my case) I caught up with legendary Sonic soundtrack composer, director and performer extrodinaire Jun Senoue in Shibuya, Tokyo. Needless to say I had a long chat with Jun about many things…things like the possibility of a second Crush 40 album…things about what he’s working on currently…and yes, even Sonic the Hedgehog 4 came up in conversation. So, keep an eye out on both Sonic Stadium and junsenoue.com for the interview on what’s going down over the next few days!

As well as the questions I had lined up, I also got Jun to answer what I thought were the seven best fan questions going, and so I asked both TSS and js.com readers to submit! I also said I would hand out a prize to the best question propped, but I had so many, I’m having to give out two prizes – one for a member of each site!

So first off, congratulations to both Michelle Palmer and Hawkz from TSS, who’s questions both made it into the final cut of the “Chaos Questions” as I’ve come to name them (there’s seven, see!), but, the my favourite question proposed was from….

Sinister Swiss!

Congratulations! You are now the proud owner of a Exclusive Japan-only COSPA Sonic the Hedgehog T-Shirt!

Please send me your name and address (and shirt size!) by either PM on SSMB or at tbird [at] sonicstadium.org. Also many congratulations to Ibbod0, Bluelightning, SoA and Sonic1991 (winner of the Sonic Heroes Triple Threat album!) on the JunSenoue.com forums – your questions have also made the cut too!

Thanks to everyone who sent in questions; there were many good ideas, and I hope in some way or another I will have asked a question you would like to know the answer too! Anyway, stay tuned for the full Jun Senoue Interview!

??? Shortest competition ever – T-Bird’s Mystery contest ???

*Spooky noise* Yes, this is all shrouded in a fog, but I want to keep this a little bit vague as to not give to0 much away! As from making this post, you have 20 hours (Until Midnight 0:00GMT Sunday Morning) to come up with an answer. In fact this competition is so mysterious, I haven’t even thought of a prize yet…maybe I’ll find it when I go shopping today…

ANYWAY: here’s your question, and the best answer will receive a MYSTERY prize:

If you could ask any question to a certain Crush 40 guitarist, what would it be?

Creative and thoughtful questions will be considered the most! To enter, simply post your question below in the comment box.

Right, off for some shopping!

A little taste as to what to expect in our Game Archive Gameplay segments. Character profiles, enemy information, item details and other such jazz. As we’re simply restoring all our old info at the moment, you’ll just get character information for Sonic 2 for the moment, though.

Sonic Community Win SEGA’s Needlemouse Challenge

It’s been a very long four days for Sonic fans everywhere thanks to SEGA’s Project Needlemouse Character Countdown. Starved for information about the game with naught but a teaser trailer and rumours of it possibly being a downloadable title for 360 and PS3 to go on, fans leapt on SEGA’s challenge to whittle down a frankly ridiculous list of possible playable characters. The first two challenges were easy with fans racking up 250 correct replies on SEGA’s blog and Facebook page in a matter of hours. The third day was harder with the target of 1000 answers on SEGA’s forum failing to be reached.

In the final challenge yesterday SEGA were asking for a mammoth 1250 correct answers to be posted to their Twitter account or for SEGA or Needlemouse to reach the trending topic list. It was a long night with an extraordinary effort put in by everyone to push for the goal. Many fans had never used Twitter before and set up an account just for this challenge. Others helped members struggling to Tweet correctly by showing them how. It wasn’t long before Twitter was drown under a wave of #SEGA and #Needlemouse posts. SEGA offered words of encouragement and for a short period we were actually posting more topics per minute than some of the top 10 trending topics. It was a valiant effort but while we never made the trending topics list we still won. At around 7am GMT SEGA gave us the word:

Happy 2010 – TSS’ 10th Anniversary

Happy New Year everyone! On October 24th ten years ago, I created this website. And it has been awesome to see it grow throughout the decade. This year, I’m celebrating our existence in style. You can expect a whole bunch of updates tonight and throughout the weekend, while you’ll have no doubt noticed one major change.

This current theme that you’re seeing is a modern reproduction of the 2007 ‘Sonical’ skin – said by our readers to be our very best design. We’ve not only brought that back, but also the theme switcher and some classic alternative themes – Two Foxy, Knucklehead and (for the first time since 2005’s Shadow Week) All of Angst. The Sonic Site Award 2009 Winners

The results are in for the Sonic Site Awards 2009! You can listen to The Sonic Hour special broadcast that announced the winners live last night by going straight to our Media portal, or by subscribing to TSH’s podcast feed). For a full rundown of nominee placement, head to the Sonic Site Awards page, where you can see total votes and percentage votes for all the runners.

But for the sake of brevity, here are this year’s winners:

A big win for the Brazilian Sonic community this year – a side of the online fanbase that is just finding its feet and experiencing a boom not unlike the British and American one of several years ago. The level of excitement and energy between these websites is quite inspiring and reminds me of when I first joined the Sonic community way back in ’99. There are some truly deserving websites here, and I hope you’ll join me in congratulating them and visiting their sites on a regular basis.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

It’s Christmas Eve. You don’t expect us to be writing many Sonic articles and posts over the next couple of days, because we’re all going to spend some time with our families and friends. Most probably while playing Sonic the Hedgehog games.

All of us at The Sonic Stadium, SSMB and all over the TSS Network want to wish all of our readers (and even those that don’t like us) a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, successful New Year into 2010.

How do you plan to spend your Christmas holidays? Let us know in the comments box below! Feel free to give your best wishes to fellow Sonic fans on the SSMB Forums, and we’ll see you throughout next week to round off the year – and the decade – in Sonic the Hedgehog.

Our friend from across the Channel, Adamis Fox, sent us a Christmas card from France Belgium (click to enlarge) – we’re posting it here to share it with you all and extend our wishes to Adamis and the French/Belgium Sonic community (and all international communities beyond). Take care and have a good one!

Sonic Site Awards Winners Announced On The Sonic Hour

The votes are in! We’ve tallied up all the nomination’s poll numbers for the Sonic Site Awards 2009, and soon we will be announcing the winners. As is tradition with the SSAs, there will be a live online broadcast celebrating and announcing the award winners. Known as the ‘Ceremony’, this year’s event will take place live on SEGASonic Radio.

Listen to The Sonic Hour on Sunday, 27th December 2009, 6pm GMT to catch the winners and the no-doubt comical celebration that Dreadknux (me) and Roareye Black will provide. Won’t it be jolly good fun? We’ll also be talking about the New Year and things like that, in a bumper TSH special.

You can listen to SEGASonic Radio live, right now, by clicking here – you can perpetually listen in from today and wait there until Sunday if you really want. Or, you could remember later on and come back. Your choice.

NEW @ The Sonic Show: Top 5 Winter Levels!

BenBrad2

You ever watch The Sonic Show here at TSS?  You haven’t?  Start now.

I have returned to The Sonic Show, but I’m not reading e-mails anymore (so you can stop sending them, please).  This season, I’ll be trying many different things, but my friend Ben and I will be making “Top 5” lists.  (You may remember my new co-host from “How I Celebrated My Sonic 2sday.“)  Our first Top 5 list coincides with the holiday season, as we count down the best winter levels in Sonic games.  Which winter wonderland will take top honors?  Hit the jump to watch and find out!

Merry Christmas From The Sonic Stadium

Hey guys, as you’ve probably noticed it’s December this month! So we’ve gone all festive for the occasion! Do you like this new skin? It’s pretty jolly, isn’t it? 🙂 We’re not stopping at decorations though, we’ve already got a lot of great holiday season material online and ready for you to read. Check out the start of the 25 Days of Christmas NiGHTS, check out eBay Watch to find some great new merchandise (for yourself or a present), or look to be a bit more giving in the New Year with details on Sonic Relief 2010.

We have some more special stuff planned too, like some holiday-themed articles and some great festive updates for you. I’ll have some time off of work soon for Christmas holiday – I’ll be personally spending the time updating areas like the Scanned Material and Game Archive sections. By the way, did you notice that I’ve launched the Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing page? Give it a look here – I’ll be adding more details on the game via its ‘Gameplay’ and ‘Zones’ pages later on too.

Christmas is all about sharing and being with your friends, so why not pop into the SSMB Forums and enjoy the festive cheer with your fellow Sonic fans as well? I’m in the process of sorting out a special Sonic X-Mas skin for that too, so don’t worry – it’s just taking a little longer because I have to recreate the Sonical skin as a base.

We hope you enjoy the content that comes over the holiday, and I’d wish you all a Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays but the date’s weeks away yet. I’ll simply say, good luck in the Christmas Shopping rush!
