You’ll remember that we mentioned a sequel to the racing game Sonic Riders being announced by SEGA a month or so back. Well, now it’s official – so much, in fact, that an official trailer has been released for the game! (Courtesy of Gametrailers.com)
This trailer includes a small breakdown of the main point of focus in the game, involving tracking down the “shooting star.” In addition, the ability to control gravity is stressed as a main aspect of the gameplay, and is likely a key aspect of the storyline as well.
At this point, no new characters have been revealed, but knowing Sonic Team’s track record so far, there probably will be.
In addition, you’ll also find some screenshots of the game here, courtesy of IGN. Stay tuned to Sonic News for further updates on Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, as well as other future Sonic titles! And do be careful with that gravity control.

If you’ve been paying attention to Sonic News at all, you’ll have noticed this article that we posted not too long ago. It said that a Sonic X-Treme prototype would be released on July 18th, available for anyone to take a look at.
Well, as it turns out, someone attempted to leak it early, and this prompted ASSEMbler to make a formal release earlier on. So, today, July 16th, 2007, the developmental Sonic X-Treme release has finally been shown the light of day!
Download is available by bittorrent here, and a rapidshare mirror has been made of it here.
A big thanks to ASSEMbler for making this public! Enjoy and all that. It isn’t much, admittedly, but come on – what would your friends say if you told them you played an unreleased game? You’d be the top bloke in your group of mates. Or something.
Here’s the download links again, just in case you’re lazy (like me):
NOTE: You’ll need a Sega Saturn emulator to run this. SSF runs it perfectly, but you’ll need a high-end machine to run it well.

Rumors have been spreading, both private and in public, about a public release of a test engine of the lost Sonic game, Sonic X-Treme, which was originally planned to debut as “the” Sonic game on the Sega Saturn, which was later scrapped and replaced with the far-inferior Sonic 3D Blast, which, even though it had a nice soundtrack, was mediocre compared to what X-Treme had offered.
According to various forum posts on both Sonic CulT and the Sonic 2 Beta page, local scener HXC, Sonic X-Treme research extraordinare, ASSEMbler, of ASSEMblergames.com has obtained a copy of a Sonic X-Treme test build, which was up for auction a couple of years beforehand, and was auctioned off to a collector, who had the game for an extended period of time. Now, rumors have spread that this developmental build of Sonic X-Treme will be released to the public on July 18th, free for anyone to download and research. According to a french gaming website, as well as Sega-Europe, we’ve received official Sega confirmation of Sonic Rivals 2, slated for release on the PSP in autumn of this year.
According to the press release, Tails and two new characters are confirmed to be in the game, though details have not been revealed on the latter two characters at this time. More tidbits include a “jostling” new control scheme, allegedly meant to bring better customization and style to the existing control scheme, allowing for “tighter” competition. Sounds peachy. First off, we’d like to apologize for both our downtime, and being so late to deliver the most widespread of news. Rest assured, though, we’re bucking up, and promise to deliver the latest Sonic News from now on, yadda yadda, you get the deal. Anywho, on with the show…
If you’ve snooped around the internets lately (or Sega’s website, to be more specific), you’d notice this little gem. What’s this? Sonic and Mario? In a game together? This isn’t a photoshop, right?

According to Amazon.com, the 360 version of Sonic the Hedgehog (360) just got a nice price drop – from the original $59.99, now to $29.99! Hopefully this calms the nerves of those wary about trying the game out, and gives them a chance to do so with less to lose for doing so.

Just recently, the Official Nintendo Magazine had a little chat with Yojiro Ogawa, Sonic Team member and esteemed game developer – also responsible for Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic’s latest outing on the Nintendo Wii system.
According to the article, the lovely chaps down at Nintendo Magazine had a sitdown with Ogawa, and, after having a chat with him, gave a run through the complete version of Sonic and the Secret Rings. Here’s what they have to say about it:
“As you may know by now, the game is controlled by moving a constantly-running Sonic left and right. This is done by holding the Remote on its side and tilting it to make Sonic turn. Like all the best Sonic games it is simple to pick up and play and while he’s racing through the levels Sonic can perform loads of different moves.Continue reading Nintendo talks to Yojiro Ogawa

According to The GHZ, the optional downloadable content for Sonic the Hedgehog has finally been revealed, and is available for download on both Xbox 360 and the recently-release Playstation 3 version in Japan for about 350 yen each (about $2.89 USD).
But what is it, you ask?
Well, we’ll tell you – “Very Hard Mode”! Sega continues their cliche of optional increased difficulty levels, with three versions for download – one for each character (Sonic, Shadow, and Silver). The download is labeled as “1st Download,” which hints towards more possible content in the future. However, so far, no other downloads are available; no fixes for glitches, no faster loading times, etc.
Stay tuned to Sonic News for further updates!
