Sega of Japan is unleashing these new credit cards in Japan, and boy are you going to be jealous. Customers can choose either a Visa or MasterCard, with the Visa obviously looking much cooler. I mean, imagine whipping that puppy out to pay for your goods. The card will get customers 10% back at participating restaurants, snag free tickets to Sega’s Joypolis and more.
Even though the Dreamcast is on its way out, there’s no need for you to worry about whether that Broadband Adaptor will continue to be supported. SEGA has confirmed that the US release of Phantasy Star Online Version 2 will indeed support the peripheral. The catch is that, for some reason, the game won’t support PPPoE connections. Still, you’ll be able to get some good broadband play in. The game arrives September 11.
After selling well in Japan, Sonic Adventure 2 has now become a top seller in the US after being on store shelves for only eleven days. The Dreamcast swansong broke into June’s NPD Top 10 software sales chart, entering at the #8 position. We wonder how it will perform next month, if this is its ranking after little over a week. The original artwork for Archie’s Sonic the Hedgehog comic, Issue #100, has now gone on sale on eBay. This follows the comments made by Ken Penders, who said it would be going up for auction. The starting bid is $500, but you can buy it outright for $1,500. Click here to see the auction and bid.
Sonic Comics are selling better then 90% of all comics, according to Archie artist and writer Ken Penders. “If you’re going by sales figures provided by Diamond Distributors, they’re misleading, as they only reflect sales through the comics shops,” he said. “Sonic is sold through a variety of outlets that Diamond doesn’t handle, thus the sales are much higher than anyone usually thinks. Does that mean it’s easier for Sonic? Hardly, as magazine sales overall are in a slump due to a variety of factors.”
SEGA will be showcasing a whole bunch of games at the Tokyo Game Show this year, according to a new report in Japanese game magazine Famitsu. Sonic Team is celebrating the fact that it will be at the show as a third party developer for the first time, with a cool new illustration to promote TGS. See it below. Finally! SEGA has announced a new release date for Phantasy Star Online Version 2 in the US. It will hit stores there on September 11th. The game will also charge an online fee of $15 for three months of unlimited play, in addition to its $39.99 price tag.

As we expected, the Vocal Collection won’t be the only Sonic Adventure 2 CD soundtrack that will be released. A 2-disc Original Soundtrack package will be released on September 5th, covering all the instrumental music in the game. It’s expected that there will be at least 60 tracks total in the pack. More news as we get it.

You’d think with all the delays that Sega would just cancel developing Phantasy Star Online Version 2 for the West. But according to a story on Gamespot, the Dreamcast online RPG is still very much on track for an English language release. “Definitely coming to the US” was the official line, although the date, server fees and more details are said to be revealed soon. Let’s hope it’s very, very soon.
The official Sonic Adventure 2 website has been updated with some helpful hints and tips about the game. If you log on to the site now via Sega.com you can find “1st Mission” hint pages, an Omochao Q&A page where you can submit questions to Sonic Team (so far, Omochao’s been asked how to get past a certain spot on Crazy Gadget), and a Message Board that’s split into ‘Beginner’, ‘Expert’ and ‘Chao’ forums. You can also download a VMU file that changes the voice in the menu screen in Sonic Adventure 2 to Sonic’s. Neat!
Sonic Team’s puzzle game series, Puyo Puyo (released on Mega Drive in the West as Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine) is getting a portable version for Game Boy Advance! Well there’s a surprise! It looks like Amazon are selling old VHS tapes of the SatAM Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon. They’re going for around $12 each, and there are only three to choose from, but if you’re needing an animated blue blur fix right now you can’t say fairer than this. Hooked on Sonics, Sonic Racer and Super Sonic are the three sets to choose from, check them out.

SEGA will be releasing a Sonic Adventure 2 Vocal soundtrack, titled ‘Cuts Unleashed: SA2 Vocal Collection’, in Japan on August 22. It’ll go on sale for 2635 Yen (or about US$21). Sonic’s Dreamcast swansong is making an impact in Japan right now, as Famitsu magazine reports that Sonic Adventure 2 has sold more than 84,000 copies in its first week on sale. With plenty of copies already sold in the US, it seems that SA2 is already a huge hit!
The latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly comes with a huge Sonic the Hedgehog poster! It includes all six characters from Sonic Adventure 2, along with profiles for each of them on the back. The freebie also says “the Sonic giveaways continue”, a reference to their contest to win a Sonic Team-signed copy of Sonic Adventure 2. Want to be in with a chance of winning that? Today marks the tenth Anniversary of the Way Past Cool video game character, Sonic the Hedgehog. His first game was released on June 23 1991, and this has been officially recognised as his birthday. So, happy birthday Sonic!
So many PSO Version 2 delays! This time it’s the US version of the game that’s being held back, originally due to release on July 10th but has recently changed to ‘TBD’ (To Be Determined) on SEGA’s official website. It’s likely that the game won’t see light of day in the West until August or September.

The release of the most eagerly anticipated Sonic game ever has come – to those of us that live in North America. Sonic Adventure 2 will be the final Sonic game on a SEGA system – after running on Genesis, Master System, Game Gear, 32X, SEGA CD, Saturn and a short jog on Neo Geo Pocket Color, and finally the Dreamcast. Word has it that Sonic the Hedgehog will actually be a very well hidden character in Nintendo’s upcoming brawling game for Gamecube, Super Smash Bros. Melee. Nintendo and Sega refused to comment on the rumor, so we’ll see where it goes from here.

Sega has just announced an American release date for Phantasy Star Online Version 2 – finally! It’ll arrive on July 10th for a price of $39.99. No word on the pay-to-play online, but at least we have the release date for now.
Sonic Team confirmed today that Sonic Adventure 2 does come with a bonus goodie all its own- a mini kart racing game where players can race against each other for rings and bonuses. There’ll be a few tracks and players available initially, but Sonic Team will make new tracks and players available via downloads from the Internet. This should be the case for the US and Japanese versions alike, as well as the European release.

With 19 days left to go until the release of the biggest Sonic game ever, SEGA America has finally opened its own official Sonic Adventure 2 website. And as a double-whammy, the new site revealed that the 10th Anniversary special edition (that comes with gold coin, soundtrack and history book) will be sold in American stores!
